Floyd Mayweather wants Gervonta Davis to box once more after Leo Santa Cruz before negotiating Teofmio Lopez super-fight

FLOYD MAYWEATHER wants Gervonta Davis to fight once more after facing Leo Santa Cruz before he begins negotiating a super-fight with Teofmio Lopez.
Davis returns to the ring this weekend to box super-featherweight champion Santa Cruz, who is defending his WBA title.

Mayweather’s protege will also have his lightweight belt on the line, despite fighting in the division below.
Davis’ last bout was at lightweight – knocking out Yuriorkis Gamboa in December – where Lopez is the unified champion.
Promoter Mayweather has put the brakes on holding talks over a super-fight until his man has entered the ring at least one more time.
He told ESPN: “I think if Tank gets past Leo, which I truly believe he can, it may not be easy, but then we move on and we fight one more fight.

“Then, hopefully, a fight with Teofimo can be made.”
Lopez, 23, stunned Vasiliy Lomachenko, 32, this month to add the WBA, WBO and WBC ‘Franchise’ title to his IBF belt.
He now reigns supreme in the lightweight division, where Devin Haney, 21, and Ryan Garcia, 22, also campaign.
Mayweather has guided Davis during his 23-0 unbeaten run, while legendary promoter Bob Arum looks after Lopez, 16-0.

Arum used to promote Mayweather, until the future legend bought out his contract for £580,000 in 2006.
The former pay-per-view king claims to have banked over $1billion in career earnings following his decision to bet on himself.
But Mayweather admits his relationship with Top Rank boss Arum is still damaged.
And it could affect a deal between Davis and Lopez, with both promoters almost certain to argue their fighter is the bigger attraction.
Mayweather said: “It’s just hard to deal with Top Rank. It’s not easy, like you think it is.
“It’s not easy just to sit down and say, ‘Well, I want this to happen because you’ve got guys that are very greedy and say, ‘Well, we want this and we want this,’ when we know Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is one of the biggest names in the sport of boxing.”

Floyd Mayweather names Terence Crawford as his P4P best in world as Money hails ‘amazing’ Canelo Alvarez

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has named Terence Crawford as the best pound-for-pound star in the world – while reserving special praise for Canelo Alvarez.
The 50-0 boxing legend, 43, was speaking to ESPN asked who he believed was the sport’s P4P king.

And Money threw his weight behind WBO welterweight champion Crawford.
But Mayweather was also full of praise for Alvarez – whom he beat at light-middleweight in 2013 – after he took the jump to light-heavyweight and won the title.
On the P4P debate, Money told ESPN First Take: “Canelo done something amazing when he became light-heavyweight champ.
“I didn’t even see him going up that heavy, and he did that.

“But, as of right now, I have to put Terence Crawford as No1.”
Former light-welterweight star Crawford, 33, jumped up a weight class to take on Jeff Horn in 2018 – and walked away with the WBO title.
He has since retained his crown three times, including his win over Amir Khan in 2019.
But Alvarez, 30, also impressed Mayweather, after an incredible transformation over the years.

SunSport’s pound for pound top ten

The Mexican kicked-off his career at welterweight before moving up to light-middleweight, middleweight, super-middleweight and finally light-heavyweight.
Alvarez beat Sergey Kovalev in Las Vegas last year to take home the WBO light-heavyweight title.
Meanwhile, SunSport has also had their say on the P4P rankings – with Crawford and Alvarez coming in at No1 and No2 respectively.
Tyson Fury takes the third spot in our list, followed by Naoya Inoue, Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk.

Mike Tyson says he’s at lowest weight since he was 18 as Roy Jones Jr predicts epic fight between ‘freaks’

MIKE TYSON revealed he is at his lowest weight since he was 18 – as Roy Jones Jr hailed the two as ‘freaks’.
The American boxing legends will both come out of retirement on November 28, for an eight-round exhibition bout.

It comes 15 years after Tyson quit the sport following two dismal defeats.
But the 54-year-old is adamant he has rolled back the clock, and weighs the same as when he made his debut at 15st 2lbs.
Tyson said: “The last time I was this weight was 17 or 18 years old
“I’m really happy with everything I’ve been doing, it’s down to confidence and self affirmation.

“It’s amazing, I’m just ready to do this. I can’t explain it in words.
“I’m going to go as long as this is working. My legend is going to be that I gave a lot more than I took.”
Tyson tipped the scales at 16.6st in his last five, in 2005 against Kevin McBride.
But he has dramatically transformed his body since picking up the gloves to train again, later releasing viral videos on the pads.

Jones, 51, – who only retired in 2018 – was left stunned by Tyson’s speed and power from the clips he has watched.
He said: “I think he looked awesome. He looked very good. I was really proud to see him bounce back the way he did.
“Most guys, at 54, they start counting themselves out. When I came in at 32 years old, you are considered an old guy.
“You couldn’t box anymore. Now to see Mike hit the body bag like that, the way he is doing it. It’s phenomenal. It’s crazy. We are freaks.”

Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr: Date, UK start time, TV channel, live stream, undercard and fight rules

BOXING legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr are preparing to do battle in a spectacular exhibition fight.
The 54-year-old Tyson will face Jones, 51, in a long-awaited bout, with the Baddest Man on the Planet dropping an incredible SIX stone to get in shape.

How Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr match up

The California State Commission say the exhibition bout will be fought under the rules that both men will not look for the knock-out and will instead “exhibit” their skills, but both fighters have come out and said the contrary.
When is Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr?
The big fight is now set for Thanksgiving Weekend – Saturday, November 28 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
It was originally set to take place on September 12 but the event has been postponed until later in the year.
The undercard is expected to start at 9pm ET which is 1am GMT and the main event will follow between 4am and 5am GMT.
The legends are set to eight rounds in the ring, with Youtube star Jake Paul and NBA star Nate Robinson confirmed for the undercard.

What live stream and TV channel is Tyson vs Jones Jr on?
BT Sport Box Office will be broadcasting the fight in the UK.
Coverage begins at 8pm ET, which is midnight in UK. The undercard is set to start from 1am GMT.
The social media site Triller will also be airing the PPV fight.
Emmy-winner Mario Lopez hosts the show, and musical acts will be announced for performances too.
Who is on the Tyson vs Jones Jr undercard?
YouTuber Jake Paul leads the way on the four-fight card when he takes on ex-NBA star Nate Robinson.
Elsewhere KSI’s trainer Viddal Riley is also in action as is former super-middleweight champion Badou Jack.
    Tyson vs Jones Jr
    Badou Jack vs Blake McKernan
    Jake Paul vs Nate Robinson
    Viddal Riley vs Rashad Coulter

What are the rules of the fight?
The fight will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds.

No headguards will be worn but the fighters will be wearing larger 12-ounce gloves.
Technically the fight can only be stopped if there is a knock-out, but California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Forster said he will stop it as soon as a cut appears.
Forster said: “Tyson and Jones Jr. won’t be wearing headgear for the fight. They’ll be lacing up 12-ounce gloves and there won’t be any judges present at the fight to score the action. So, technically, there won’t be a winner unless a knockout somehow occurs, or either fighter is deemed unfit to continue.
“They can move around and make some money, but I told them if you get cut, it’s over.”

Roy Jones Jr, 51, last fought only two years ago
    What have they said?
Mike Tyson: “We’re throwing punches at each other. This is going to be my definition of fun … broken eye sockets, broken jaw, broken rib. That’s fun to me.”
Roy Jones Jr: “He’s still Mike Tyson, he’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring. If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy. He’s going to have all the first-round fireworks, not me. I do have first-round fireworks, but he’s known for more first-round fireworks than anybody to ever touch boxing, other than maybe George Foreman.” More

Anthony Joshua could give up WBO belt as he eyes Tyson Fury showdown with mandatory Oleksandr Usyk impatient for shot

ANTHONY JOSHUA could drop his WBO belt to secure a Tyson Fury double and keep Oleksandr Usyk at arm’s length.
AJ, 31, holds the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, and hopes to snatch Fury’s WBC crown next year to become undisputed champion.

Tyson Fury is set for two all-British super-fights wth Anthony JoshuaCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

But Ukraine star Usyk is the WBO’s mandatory challenger and if he beats Derek Chisora tomorrow he insists he will not sit around waiting.
So Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua AND Usyk, has a plan — but it would mean only the first fight would be for all the titles.
He said: “I would be willing to say, subject to speaking to Anthony and Fury, that we would be willing to vacate the WBO title straight after their first fight, to let Usyk fight for it.

“Because we’re going to do two fights, we’re tied up for 2021, so we can only fight Usyk if we don’t make the Fury fight.

“I only want AJ to win the undisputed title. I’m not bothered about him defending it for the next ten years.
“I just want to be able to say: ‘You’re the undisputed heavyweight world champion, you won everything’.
“After that, if we can set up a fight between Usyk and whoever’s No 2 with the WBO, we’ll do that.”
AJ won his WBA mandatory defence against Alexander Povetkin in 2018. His bout with Kubrat Pulev on December 12 has been ordered by the IBF, so the WBO and Usyk are next in line.

And Hearn admits the undisputed cruiserweight king and the WBO will  take some convincing to step aside.

Oleksandr Usyk is the WBO’s mandatory challenger and if he beats Derek Chisora will want a shot at Anthony JoshuaCredit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd
He said: “Usyk and his team have got to do their job and push for it.
“I’ve got to do my job and be honest with everyone.
“I think everybody feels that even an undisputed fight may not trump that mandatory.
“The fact is the IBF are now first chronologically and then the WBO.
“So if Joshua beats Pulev and we make Fury against AJ, we would write to the WBO and say: ‘Do you want to do the fight with Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua’ and they will either say: ‘Yes we’ll approve it’. Or, ‘no, Usyk is mandatory’.

“If it’s the latter, we go to Usyk and say: ‘Do you want to allow this fight’ and he says: ‘Yes but what are you going to give me?’ Or ‘no’. Then you deal with it from there.
“AJ wants to be undisputed. If we had to fight Fury with a belt missing, we’d do it. But the whole aim has always been the undisputed title.
“Once he wins it, I’m OK if we have to go into the second fight with one missing.”

David Haye says Derek Chisora is set to become WBO mandatory and fight Anthony Joshua if he beats Oleksandr Usyk More
