Tommy Fury vs Marsellos Wilder tale of the tape: Boxing brothers of Tyson & Deontay compared as shots fired

TOMMY FURY is keen to follow older brother Tyson’s lead and bash a Wilder.
The Love Island 2019 star fancies fighting Deontay’s younger brother Marsellos to complete a quickfire family double.

Back in February Tyson was crowned WBC heavyweight champion of the world when he battered Wilder all around the ring before his corner pulled him out in the seventh.
The pair were meant to have a trilogy fight – they drew in their first scrap – but Fury says Wilder missed the deadline.
But the American disputes this and has taken his case to his legal team to enforce his chance at redemption.
But we could still yet see Fury versus Wilder – with Tommy and Marsellos taking the stage.

Tommy, 21, who fights tonight, said: “I don’t want to look past Friday’s opponent but, if his brother wants the same as Deontay got, then he can get it.
“I see a lot of people tweeting about wanting to fight me but I never saw that before I went into Love Island so I know what they are after.
“If Marsellos Wilder is one of those then I will happily oblige.
“My advice for him would be to keep quiet and stay in America where he can try to help his brother recover from what Tyson did to him, fair and square.”

Tommy has won all three of his fights since turning pro and has talked of his dreams about becoming heavyweight world champ.
Marsellos, who competes at cruiserweight, has not fought since a devastating KO loss to little-known Dustin Long in November last year.
It was his second stoppage loss of his seven-fight career after he was battered by William Deets in January 2019.

Frank Warren slams ‘sad’ Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr fight and claims retired boxers are ‘obviously doing it for money’

FRANK WARREN has labelled Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr ‘sad’ for their comeback clash later this month.
Iron Mike, 54, will step back into the ring for the first time in over 15 years for the exhibition meeting in Los Angeles.

Frank Warren has criticised the idea of retired boxers returning for fightsCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

But promoter Warren, 68, has little interest in watching the retired fighters face off.
He told Punching.TV: “It’s on BT and I work with BT. For me, I have no interest in it.
“By interest, I don’t like the idea of guys that age fighting.
“I know it’s going to be a so-called exhibition match but I have no interest.

“They’re obviously doing it for money and I think it’s quite sad that they’re doing what they’re doing.
“They should not be doing it, boxing is a young man’s game.”

Tyson is thought to be approximately worth just £2million despite earning huge sums for his record-breaking heavyweight career.
While Jones Jr, 51, has reportedly accumulated £34m in a career that spans 75 fights ahead of this match-up.

The veterans are due to face each other on November 28 and claim to be in top shape ahead of the exhibition match.
Tyson remarked earlier in the week: “I just started exercising and was feeling so good.

“I had an urge to hit the bag, something I haven’t done in more than 15 years.
“I was enjoying it and I never thought I would get enjoyment out of boxing again.
“I thought the sport had robbed the best of me but it wasn’t true. I just feel better than I ever have physically and mentally and it’s just something I needed to do for myself.”

Legendary promoter Bob Arum reveals his ‘Mount Rushmore of boxing’ with Floyd Mayweather narrowly missing out

LEGENDARY promoter Bob Arum revealed his ‘Mount Rushmore of boxing’ – with Floyd Mayweather narrowly missing out.
The American National Memorial sculpture, situated in the Black Hills region of South Dakota, features the carved heads of former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

And SunSport asked Arum – who has worked with the best across five decades – which past or present stars deserve the recognition to be put on boxing’s own Rushmore.
The iconic Top Rank boss selected Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Harvin Hagler and Manny Pacquiao.
But had he been given a fifth choice, Mayweather would have got the nod.
Here Arum explains his decision making.

    Muhammad Ali
BA: He’s the greatest of all time.
He brought boxing back from the dead, boxing couldn’t get on television in the United States because they had all these mob figures that were controlling boxing.
Ali brought boxing back, he was a superb fighter, and he was a person of the world who elevated boxing to tremendous heights.

    George Foreman
BA: He’s my friend, and the greatest guy that I met.

The comeback that he pulled off in his second career was absolutely amazing and legendary to win the heavyweight championship at aged 45.

    ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler
BA: He fought everybody, he was a consummate professional and he came from nothing.
He wasn’t an Olympian, people ignored him when he was coming up.
But he put that all aside, he had these two Italian-American guys from Brockton, the Petronelli brothers and they stuck together as a team and he elevated himself to the top of the sport.

    Manny Pacquiao
BA: He really brought the Asian fans, the Filipinos, Malaysian people and made them interested in boxing.
He achieved great feats whether it was his beat down of De La Hoya, he elevated boxing during that period.

    Floyd Mayweather

Kell Brook claims Terence Crawford is getting ‘the best version of him’ after knuckling down away from the bright lights

KELL BROOK believes running away from the bright lights and late nights of Sheffield will help crown him king of sin city Las Vegas.
The 34-year-old aims to become a two-time welterweight world champion by beating WBO boss and pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford on Saturday.

The former IBF champ admits – much like working-class Manchester hero Ricky Hatton – he has enjoyed hero status at home a bit too much in between fights.
But slimline father-of-three Brook has dedicated himself like never before for his shot at the 36-0 three-weight champion and vows there will be no hangovers on Sunday morning.
The 39-2 ace said: “People have been writing me off and saying this is an easy fight for Terence.
“But I have taken myself away from my missus, my daughters, all of my family to get ready for this and push myself in training camp.

“I have no excuses. There will be no excuses.
“At home in Sheffield there are plenty of distractions and sometimes I only start tightening up things too late and too close to a fight.
“This time, for Terence, I took myself away as soon as I knew this fight was on so I could knuckle down.
“I have only done it to myself to be great.

The latest Ring Magazine P4P rankings

“My mindset is just focused on the job and being positive now because of how I feel now compared to how I have felt before previous fights.
“Terence is getting the best version of me, ever.”
Brook split with life-long trainer Dominic Ingle and long-term promoter Eddie Hearn for this showdown, helping him keep the lion’s share of his £1.75m windfall.
The ruthless moves cost him his broadcast partnership with Sky Sports and a few friends.
But he hopes to leave his new frenemies with egg on their faces.
He said: “I am disappointed that the TV coverage isn’t what it should be in the UK, I have been with Sky Sports for years, they have seen me become a world champion and star in thrillers.
“I can see certain people doubting me and calling me out, people I know as well.
“And they are the people making me want to push on and do an extra round in training and do a little bit more in every session, because I can’t wait to see them after the fight.
“I cannot wait to see them when I am crowned champion of the world again.”

Crawford is a brilliant switch-hitting fighter, compared to Sugar Ray Leonard by legendary promoter Bob Arum.
The Nebraska ace travelled to Glasgow to dominate the fighting pride of Scotland, Ricky Burns, in 2014 and he battered Amir Khan into submission in New York last year.
And Brook believes a shock win – as unlikely as 8-1 with most bookies – would top the list of most iconic wins by Brits abroad, surpassing even Lloyd Honeyghan over Donald Curry and Lennox Lewis vanquishing Evander Holyfield.
Brook said: “I think this win would be No1 on that list.
“Because of what I have been through and because Terence is not just a world champion but the fighter everyone considers to be pound-for-pound No1.
“But I have done this all my life, this is what I was born to do.”

Five venues that could host Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury in UK including Wembley, Old Trafford and Tottenham Stadium

TYSON FURY’S Battle of Britain against Anthony Joshua has had its chances of being held in the UK boosted.
The government revealed this week that it hopes to roll out coronavirus vacinations by the end of the year.

This could mean fans allowed back into stadiums with boxing and sport in general slowly getting back to ‘normal’.
WBC king Fury announced at the start of lockdown that he had agreed two fights against WBA, WBO and IBF champ Joshua for 2021.
Provided they both come through their respective December fights, that would see all belts on the line in an undisputed heavyweight clash.
Here, SunSport checks out five potential venues in Britain that could be in the running to house the mouthwatering battle.

    Wembley Stadium
Being the national stadium, Wembley is a firm favourite to hold such a monumental boxing clash.
Joshua has already sold out the 90,000 capacity London venue when he beat Wladimir Klitschko in a thriller in 2017 to become unified champ.
He went on to defend his titles against Alexander Povetkin there too in September 2018.
It would be Fury’s first fight at Wembley – but he has won twice at the Arena next door.

    Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
The futuristic North London venue deserves to hold an event of such magnitude.
Eddie Hearn seems a fan, previously touting it for prospective giant boxing clashes.
Housing just over 62,000 and with travel links decent enough and set to be upgraded, the home of Spurs could be the favourite.

    Principality Stadium
Promoter Hearn and Joshua were raving after the Welsh stadium hosted AJ’s victory against Joseph Parker in March 2018.
There was even the chance of Joshua’s rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr happening there, until the millions of Saudi Arabia came knocking.
With Fury from the north and Joshua the south, this would play the part of a neutral 74,000 capacity venue.

    Old Trafford
Fury has often spoke of his dreams to have a world title fight in his hometown of Morecambe.
But that might be a little too much for the quaint seaside town.
Sixty miles down the road is Manchester, and the 76,000-capacity home of his beloved football club, United.
The Gyspy King has previously been paraded out on the hallowed turf at half-time of a Premier League game.

    Emirates Stadium
It’s only fair that AJ gets to throw the home of his football team into the mix, right?
He might be born and raised in Watford, but the heavyweight champ’s team comes from down the road in North London.
His promoter Hearn had the Emirates in the running for the Kubrat Pulev fight, before coronavirus disrupted it all.
It would be the first-ever boxing fight to take place at the 60,260-capacity home of Arsenal.

Tyson Fury named second P4P best boxer in world ahead of Crawford as top ten, including Joshua, are revealed by BoxRec

TYSON FURY has been named as the second best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by BoxRec.
And Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez has been placed as No1 in the mythical rankings list, ahead of Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.

The ratings, which rank the best boxers in order of their accomplishments and records, have been made more confusing by BoxRec’s points system.
Their website, widely used to research records and information, has a computer system to calculate their P4P top ten daily.
A boxer can gain or lose points depending on their record and move up or down based on when they last fought.
To make matters more complicated, if bouts are added to any of a boxers opponents’ records, or to their opponents’ records, points can be affected.

Fury, 32, did share news that he was BoxRec’s No1 rated star, but Canelo, 30, has since replaced him, with everyone else moving down one.
Due to their points system based on records, the likes of Sergey Kovalev, 37, and Alexander Povetkin, 41, are surprise names on the list.
But there is no room for unified world champions Teofimo Lopez, 23, or Scotland’s Josh Taylor, 29.

Anthony Joshua, 31, seventh placed on the list, with Deontay Wilder, 35, fifth.

That is despite AJ owning three heavyweight belts while Wilder was dethroned of the WBC crown by Fury in February.
Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, 41, fits in at No8, even though he has not boxed since winning the WBA welterweight title from Keith Thurman in July 2019.

Terrence Crawford claims he is world’s best switch hitter as P4P superstar looks to smash Brit rival Kell Brook

TERENCE CRAWFORD believes he will be the world’s greatest switch hitter once he does a number on two of Britain’s best welterweights.
The WBO king, 33, has the freakish ability to box with stunning skill and power in the orthodox or southpaw stance.

Fight icons like Marvin Hagler, Mike Tyson, Prince Naseem Hamed and Miguel Cotto could all lead with either hand.
But undefeated ‘Bud’ insists he will be on course to be No1 if he beats Sheffield’s Kell Brook on Saturday night as comfortably as he did Amir Khan in six rounds last year.
The ice-cool Nebraskan said: “Kell is twice as good as Amir Khan and I am five times as good as Khan, I’ve accomplished a lot in boxing and I’m happy with it so far.
“When my career is all done, people will say Terence Crawford is the best switch hitter.

“I don’t think nobody in the sport of boxing has done what I’ve done in terms of switch hitter period.
“I can box southpaw. I can box orthodox.
“When a fighter isn’t fighting in his normal stance, which he’s used to, he’s giving up something, lacking.
“But I don’t, I’m comfortable in both ways.”

The latest Ring Magazine P4P rankings

Three-weight boss Crawford is in a two-horse race with four-weight king Canelo Alvarez for the mythical title of boxing’s pound-for-pound ruler.
One title was clinched at lightweight, every four crowns were collected at super-light and he is the most dominant and avoided welter right now.
And even with a handful of superstars soaring up the weights, from tiny Naoya Inoue to 6ft 9in Tyson Fury, Crawford puts himself at the top of the mountain and doesn’t need anyone to tell him.
He said: “Pound for pound, if you put me in any class weight, I would become the champion.
“Once you keep winning, everything falls into place.
“I know what I’m capable of. I don’t really need anyone to validate me.”
