Watch Terence Crawford KO Kell Brook in round four with vicious combination punching to retain welterweight title

TERENCE CRAWFORD knocked out Kell Brook in round four to retain his WBO welterweight world title.

But in round four, after a counter right hand, Brook was sent rocking back and handed a standing count.
Despite fighting on, lethal finisher Crawford swarmed the challenger with a barrage of shots causing the fight to be stopped.
After his 37th career win, he said: “I was trying to gauge the distance. He had good distance.
“I was trying to find my rhythm in between getting my distance together. That’s why it was so competitive at first. I couldn’t get my shots off.

“Kell is a tremendous talent. He came and he tried to take my title. He was in shape.
“He made the weight. There were no excuses to be put on the table. He came off of three wins.
“He lost to the better man.”
Brook, fighting at welterweight for the first time since 2017, made a bright start and bossed the first two rounds with an expertly timed jab.

He even threatened with straight right hands, as Crawford went in the southpaw stance to change up his game plan.
By round three, the 33-year-old champion began to find his range and rhythm better, but Brook’s jab was still causing him a problem.
The fight then suddenly turned on its head a minute into the fourth as Crawford landed a perfectly timed right hand in the southpaw stance.
Brook, 34, was sent reeling backwards and took punishment on the ropes before a standing eight-count was called.
He was given the chance to fight on but was still dazed as Crawford – who came into the fight with a 75 per cent finish rate – sensed blood.
The Nebraskan landed another right hook over the top and after a string of left hands, Brook was saved by the referee Tony Weeks.

Following the loss, he said: “Never in my career, nobody has ever done that to me in sparring or anything.
“It was one of them… I got caught with a shot I didn’t see. I’m gutted because nobody could’ve gotten me in better condition.
“I was bang on the limit. Maybe I could’ve been a bit more relaxed and loose and let the shots go.”
Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum revealed he will attempt to put the WBO champion in the ring with Errol Spence Jr.
But Arum fears WBC and IBF champ Spence – who fights Danny Garcia on December 5 – will try and swerve the unification.
He said: “Errol Spence will try to avoid Crawford for as long as he can.
“You saw the performance tonight. He’ll take out Spence in the same number of rounds as he did Kell Brook.”

Crawford was in line to challenge WBA champion Manny Pacquiao in Qatar this year, but the coronavirus pandemic KO’d the mega-fight.
Despite the cancellation, the unbeaten American wants to re-visit negotiations with the Filipino icon.
He said: “I want Pacquiao. I want to revisit that fight. That was a fight that should’ve happened right now.
“But being that the pandemic happened, and they weren’t going to allow fans in the Middle East, they had to put a hold to that.
“Everything was 95 percent done. We had the venue. The money was almost there. It wasn’t quite there. That was the only thing we were waiting on.”
Arum added: “It was set to take place in the Middle East before the minister of health stopped it.
“But we’re [now] in talks want do it in the Middle East before or after Ramadan.” More

Floyd Mayweather returning to boxing aged 43 because he’s blown $1bn fortune, claims Amir Khan

AMIR KHAN believes old rival Floyd Mayweather may only be plotting a boxing return because he has spent all of his fortune.
Mayweather officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC star Conor McGregor, but sparked comeback rumours last November after announcing he was “coming out of retirement in 2020”.

Amir Khan believes Floyd Mayweather may return to boxing because he needs the money

Mayweather announced he would come out of retirement in 2020

The 43-year-old – who followed a unique training regime throughout his unbeaten career – has since uploaded videos of himself back in the gym, even returning to sparring.
And Brit Khan, who tirelessly chased a fight against Mayweather but to no avail, reckons the 50-0 US star could be preparing to lace up the gloves again because he is in need of another payday.
He told World Boxing News: “I mean, Floyd Mayweather, to fight again? – At the end of the day, I don’t know.
“Floyd Mayweather is one of those fighters who might have spent up (all his money) and might have to come back to the ring again.

“He spends a lot of money, but I don’t know if he’s ever going to want to come back. As I said, maybe he’s going to.”
Mayweather is said to have earned $1billion throughout his career, but has faced accusations by McGregor and former friend 50 Cent that he has somehow blown all his cash.
The former pay-per-view king has shot down the speculation linking him with a rematch against Manny Pacquiao – who he beat in 2015 – but said he would “absolutely” face McGregor again, or UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Khan thinks 41-year-old PacMan, the current WBA welterweight champion, may be influencing Mayweather to make a return to the ring, even without fighting him.
He explained: “He’s (Floyd) been out of the ring a long time and he is getting older. You have to remember his age, he’s 43 years old.
“Obviously, you’ve still got Manny Pacquiao going at 41. Mayweather might see that and think I can keep going boxing as well.”

Legendary promoter Bob Arum reveals ‘Mount Rushmore of boxing’ with Floyd Mayweather Jr narrowly missing out

LEGENDARY promoter Bob Arum revealed his ‘Mount Rushmore of boxing’ – with Floyd Mayweather narrowly missing out.
The American National Memorial sculpture, situated in the Black Hills region of South Dakota, features the carved heads of former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

And SunSport asked Arum – who has worked with the best across five decades – which past or present stars deserve the recognition to be put on boxing’s own Rushmore.
The iconic Top Rank boss selected Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Harvin Hagler and Manny Pacquiao.
But had he been given a fifth choice, Mayweather would have got the nod.
Here Arum explains his decision making.

    Muhammad Ali
BA: He’s the greatest of all time.
He brought boxing back from the dead, boxing couldn’t get on television in the United States because they had all these mob figures that were controlling boxing.
Ali brought boxing back, he was a superb fighter, and he was a person of the world who elevated boxing to tremendous heights.

    George Foreman
BA: He’s my friend, and the greatest guy that I met.

The comeback that he pulled off in his second career was absolutely amazing and legendary to win the heavyweight championship at aged 45.

Arum described Foreman as ‘greatest guy’ he ever met Credit: Getty Images
    ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler
BA: He fought everybody, he was a consummate professional and he came from nothing.
He wasn’t an Olympian, people ignored him when he was coming up.
But he put that all aside, he had these two Italian-American guys from Brockton, the Petronelli brothers and they stuck together as a team and he elevated himself to the top of the sport.

    Manny Pacquiao
BA: He really brought the Asian fans, the Filipinos, Malaysian people and made them interested in boxing.
He achieved great feats whether it was his beat down of De La Hoya, he elevated boxing during that period.

NRL star Russell Wilson had a chat with Tyson ahead of his comeback fight

Tyson will face Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an eight-round exhibition bout next weekend.
The Baddest Man on the Planet’s first fight in 15 years will be a bumper pay-per-view spectacle at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
But the scrap will NOT be for the WBC Front Line Battle Belt.
And Tyson was talking about dusting off his gloves with Wilson on his YouTube series ‘Danger Talk’.

Wilson asked Tyson: “So, tell me about these next two weeks, you ready to roll? You fired up? You gonna look like old Mike Tyson”
To which the fighting legend replied ‘Yeah man’ while tensing his bulging biceps.
Tyson added: “Look at this! Come on, man. Look at this. Come on, brother.

Afterwards, attention turned to who could be the 33-year-old’s 38th opponent.
Arum revealed talks are still ongoing for the American to face Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, 41, in the Middle East before Ramadan on April 23.
But he is not confident WBC and IBF champion Spence – who fights Danny Garcia next month – will fancy a unification with Crawford.
And if he does, the legendary promoter does not give him much chance of getting into the fifth round.

Arum said: “Spence and Garcia are fighting on December 5.
“If they really want a big ppv I’ll put Crawford in with both of them on the same night and he beats both.
“The welterweights around now are not competitive with Crawford.
“Errol Spence will try to avoid Crawford for as long as he can. You saw the performance tonight.

Brook fought at welterweight for the first time since 2017 when he lost his title against Spence in round 11.
The 34-year-old – having fought both the undefeated welterweight kings – was asked to compare their talent.
Brook said: “I can’t say he’d beat Spence or Porter as styles make fights.
“But he’s got good distance. Never in my career, even sparring that’s not happened to me.

“The fight’s over and I’m gutted. I was in great condition and bang on the scales. The fight’s gone and that’s that.”
Crawford took seven less rounds to beat Brook than Spence managed three years ago.
But he remarked: “It was different fights and gears and what not. Kell’s a tremendous talent. He was in shape and made the weight.
“He came in after a win not a lost, he just lost to the better man tonight.” More
