Lennox Lewis boasts he’d have beaten prime Tyson as he’s a ‘five-dimensional fighter’ compared to Iron Mike’s ‘one’

LENNOX LEWIS insists he’d have beaten Mike Tyson even in his prime because he is a ‘five-dimensional’ fighter.
Back in 2002 the two boxing legends finally got it on in the ring after an explosive build-up.

It was the most lucrative boxing match of all time, but the pre-fight antics threatened to steal the show and even stop it all-together.
In his new documentary, Lennox: The Untold Story, it re-lives how in what was supposed to be just the usual pre-fight face-off, all hell broke loose when Tyson marched towards Lewis and swung for his bodyguard.
Tyson was forced to pay Lewis around £260,000 for biting his leg, while the brawl almost saw the mega-fight cancelled all together.
Lewis would eventually have the last laugh with victory – but many claim the British icon was only taking on a well past his best Iron Mike.

However, during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Lewis is adamant he would still have had his hand raised if the pair had collided ten years earlier.
    He said: “Yes – I’m a five-dimensional fighter and he’s a one-dimensional fighter.”
Lewis added: “Mike Tyson is a great guy in one sense. I knew him when he was younger.
“I went up to spar with him after the junior world championship where I won a gold medal and his team were saying I didn’t box the best guy.

“Me and my trainer at the time, Arnie Beam, drove to Catskills and met him.
“He took me to his room, he was nice, we looked at lots of old films and he was more into boxing at the time that I was.
“He knew all the old guys and all the different techniques of boxing.
“So I grew to really like and know him when I was an amateur but then when he went into his pro career I never really knew why he was acting like that.
“Then we fought and he was just the same guy I met when we were 14 or 15.”

Las Vegas was due to host the grudge match 18 years ago but the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided not to re-license Tyson, who comes out of retirement later this month for an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr.
As a result, promoters were left scrambling to find an alternative to the fight capital of the world.
Memphis would eventually be selected as the pay-per-view was forced back by two months.
Tyson at the time had not lost since 1997, when he was disqualified for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear.
Lewis on the other hand was the unified heavyweight king and golden boy of the division.
And it would be he who retained that crown with an eight round knockout. More

Floyd Mayweather opens up on coming out of retirement for return in Japan which will be ‘sparring’ for ‘some heavy cash’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER revealed he will be coming out of retirement for ‘sparring’ matches which will earn him ‘some heavy cash’.
Mayweather announced he will return to the ring next February for another exhibition bout in Tokyo.

Floyd Mayweather will be coming out of retirement for some ‘sparring’ which will earn him ‘some heavy cash’

And while he refused the comeback fight was because he ‘needs money’ – the 43-year-old is instead ‘having fun’ amid his lucrative ring return.
Mayweather told USA Today: “There are so many people that are in the work world that retire and still do different things and make a couple of dollars just to have fun.
“Same thing I’m doing. I’m having fun, enjoying life.
“Why can’t I do some sparring for, you know, some heavy cash?”

Mayweather officially retired from professional boxing in 2017 after beating UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds.
He did lace up the gloves a year later to face featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a one round beating.
The unbeaten American has since teased another comeback having spent this year training and coaching fighters in his Las Vegas gym.
Mayweather last November announced he was ‘coming out of retirement’ and would work with UFC boss Dana White on a comeback.

And despite confirming plans to return to Japan in 2021, the former pay-per-view king still plans to work with White.
He said: “Me and Dana talk.“I wouldn’t say always, but we’ll text and talk on the phone every once in a while.
“Dana’s a cool guy, he’s a great guy. And he’s doing a helluva job with the UFC and I’m proud of him.
“And we look forward to working with each other in the future. Are we going to work? Absolutely.”

Tyson faces Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles

Viral entertainment platform Triller – who will be live streaming the dust-up through their app – announced on Tuesday the five rappers will feature on the music bill.
Commenting on the news, five-time Grammy Award winner Lil Wayne said: “This event is going to go down in history, no doubt!
“I’m grateful to be a part of it and share the arena with two living legends.
“I’m stoked to perform and give the fans something they can rock to.”

Black and Yellow singer Wiz Khalifa stated: “November 28th, I’m putting on a live show and watching two of the greats lace up their gloves, thanks to Triller.”
French Montana added: “Thank you to Triller for giving me the opportunity to perform on this historic night, in the same arena as these boxing legends.
“It’s truly a moment. I’m honoured and can’t wait to see Tyson and Jones fight.”
Tyson – who is walking out to his own song for the bout against his American compatriot – hasn’t fought since his defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005.

Rapper Lil Wayne has spoken of his delight at performing on the event

Wiz Khalifa is one of five rappers that will be providing entertainment on the night
But he is looking in peak condition as the 54-year-old showed off his stunning body transformation.
The former world champion even ripped off his top to reveal his shredded arms and abs in an interview with NFL quarterback Russell Wilson last week.
Jones Jr, 51, is also in great shape for the contest, as he shared a video of him displaying devastating hand speed.
His trainer Tom Yankello told SunSport: “His hand speed is still incredible.
“I don’t think his hand speed has decreased at all, he’s as fast as he was when I worked with him nine, almost ten years ago.
“His mobility is not maybe quite the same but he still has great agility, he’s kept himself in great shape.”

Anthony Joshua will fight Oleksandr Usyk if Tyson Fury faces Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout, reveals Eddie Hearn

ANTHONY JOSHUA will fight Oleksandr Usyk if Tyson Fury faces Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout, revealed Eddie Hearn.
AJ defends his unified titles against Pulev on December 12 and Fury was due to make his homecoming a week prior.

But the Gypsy King’s return to a British ring was cancelled and he could instead be forced into an immediate rematch with Deontay Wilder, 35.
Wilder has lodged a mediation to salvage his crack at redemption and Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum revealed the WBC champion is now likely to fight in February.
It means a potential undisputed title decider – which was targeted for May – would have to be backdated.
But Joshua’s matchmaker Hearn confirmed they have no plans to wait for Fury to have a fight beforehand.

Asked what AJ will do if Fury has to face Wilder, Hearn told iFL TV: “Fight Usyk.
“But we want the Fury fight, I can’t make that any clearer. The only fight that AJ wants if he beats Pulev is Tyson Fury.”
If Fury, 32, is to return to the ring early next year, Hearn warned Joshua, 31, will fight at the start of the summer, with or without him.
He said: “We can’t wait around, so just hold your horses until December 12.

“That’s they key date in the heavyweight calendar because if AJ can beat Puelv we want to make that fight (Fury) immediately for late spring or early summer of 2021.
“We don’t want to wait around for him to have another interim fight.
“The path was very clear; he was fighting on December 5th, he told everyone he was fighting no matter what, blah, blah, blah and we’re fighting December 12.
“Then we’re fighting each other. So it’s not, OK, we’ll fight on December 12 as he planned and promised and then you fight in March and we’ll see what happens.
“We’ve got the Usyk situation to sort out. As soon as we finish our fight, Usyk will be saying, ‘I’m mandatory now. Come on WBO let’s go’.
“Straight after our fight we need to know, do you want that fight next or not? And the answer has to be yes.”

Ashley Theophane to end career Floyd Mayweather helped guide with ‘farewell and homecoming fight’ against Sam Eggington

ASHLEY THEOPHANE is looking to bring his storied career to an end with a ‘farewell and homecoming fight in one’ against Sam Eggington.
The British welterweight – who was signed by Floyd Mayweather in 2013 – has not fought on home soil since 2012.

But he will make his return to the UK on Friday, December 11, against Sam Eggington.
Spurs fan Theophane, 40, says it is the perfect occasion to close out his 60-fight career – but is gutted he cannot do so in front of his London fans.
He told SunSport: “I’m looking forward to fighting back home.
“That’s the main reason I’ve taken this fight. End my career with a farewell and homecoming fight in one.

“I’ve come close to fighting here in 2018, 2019 and this year with Josh Kelly and Conor Benn offered by Eddie Hearn. We just couldn’t come to an agreement.
“I had two successful fights with Hennessy Sports. I’m aiming to it three.
“I would have preferred my family and friends there but they’ll be watching on television.”
Theophane left Mayweather’s Las Vegas team in 2017 to began a ‘World Tour’.

He would amass ten straight wins, fighting in Germany, America, Hungary, Ghana, Poland, Mexico, Romania, Denmark and UAE.
The former world title challenger was content in staying with his legendary promoter in America.
But Theophane was desperate to continue his fighting future on the road with the hopes of returning home to see out his career.
And with retirement potentially 12 rounds away, he said: “I was happy to stay and live in Las Vegas.
“I loved it there and made friends for life. I left to do my world tour and fight back home.
“I was already successful before signing with Floyd.
“That was the main reason he signed me. To give my career a boost as I’d been doing it in the shadows without much mainstream recognition.
“I’d still beaten world ranked fighters, been British champion and face big names. He just wanted to shine a light on me and my career.

“I was happy to finish boxing after beating former world champion Kassim Ouma in Denmark. Achieving my 50th professional win in a 12th country last October.
    “I’m content with everything I’ve achieved. I won’t be boxing past 40.”
Theophane has already been putting in the ground work for life in retirement.
He is now a qualified England Boxing amateur coach and has aspirations to set up his own gym.
But the affect of the coronavirus pandemic has delayed plans to open the ‘Treasure Boxing Club’.

Lockdown did afford Theophane time to complete his own book, called ‘Raised by the hood’.
He said: “I put plans in place to open Treasure Boxing Club. But lockdown happened and everything was put on hold.
“During lockdown I started training the neighbours kids and it snowballed from there.
“I enjoy working with kids of all abilities. It’s all about giving back now. I’ve achieved my dreams so I’d like to help others, achieve theirs.

“I released my book, ‘Raised by the hood’ during this time. I’d been working on it for years but finished it during lockdown.”
Theophane’s final fight promises to be a thriller as he faces Birmingham’s Eggington, renowned for his exciting style.
The 27-year-old lost his last bout in a close encounter against Ted Cheesman and also shared the ring with ex-world champion Liam Smith last year.
Eggington’s biggest night came in 2017 as he beat and retired Paulie Malignaggi.
He has also campaigned on the road, like Theophane, which immediately won the respect of the Londoner.
Theophane said: “I expect an all out war.
“I’ve only seen him against Paul Mallignaggi in the past but from what I’ve seen from his record.
“He’s willing to go anywhere and fight anybody. So I respect that about him. He’s a former British, commonwealth and European champion.”

Deontay Wilder says Dillian Whyte is ‘obsessed’ with him and vows to fight the Brit if Tyson Fury trilogy is cancelled

DEONTAY WILDER said Dillian Whyte is ‘obsessed’ with him as he vowed to face the Brit if his Tyson Fury trilogy is cancelled.
Wilder was dethroned of the WBC belt by Fury in February but was already signed to an immediate rematch.

But as the third fight of the series was backdated amid the coronavirus pandemic, the stipulation expired.
Wilder has now initiated a mediation to desperately salvage his crack at redemption.
But if his case is thrown out, there is only one man he wants to fight as an alternative.
Wilder told the Last Stand Podcast: “Dillian Whyte, I want Dillian Whyte and I want Dillian Whyte. The dude is obsessed with me, man.

“It feels like he acting like we went together and then we had a bad break up which we can’t get over.
“Maybe I have some good p**** or something, I don’t know? No homo.
“He always tried to come out with lies and all this. I’m the man that he wants to be, I’m the man that a lot of these fighters want to be.”
Wilder, 35, and Whyte, 32, have a long history dating back to 2017.

I want Dillian Whyte. The dude is obsessed with me, man.
    Wilder on Whyte

During that time, Whyte was the WBC’s No1 ranked challenger but was never given a title shot.
As he waited, and Fury instead successfully challenged for the belt, he was eventually made mandatory.
In the end, Whyte’s guaranteed shot at the belt went up in smoke as he was knocked out by Alexander Povetkin.
He is set to rematch the 41-year-old Russian next year, after their initial date this weekend was axed after Povetkin tested positive for Covid-19.
Wilder also has a nervy wait as a decision on his trilogy with Fury is expected to be delivered this week.
If he is unsuccessful, Andy Ruiz Jr, Oleksandr Usyk, Joseph Parker and Robert Helenius are among the names he would want to fight instead.

Wilder explained: “Ruiz will be one on the list, as far as hype – Helenius could be one of them – he could come back and get the hype.
“You got Parker, you’ve got Usyk and I would love to fight him. He called me out at one point in time.
“There’s a lot of guys on the list and when that phone rings, just accept that opportunity.
“Ain’t nothing nobody can say now. ‘Oh, I don’t want to fight him now?’
“No; you could have fought me, let’s keep that clear. Let’s make it clear, Wilder don’t run from nobody and never has. Never will.
“But we will see what happens man, it’s going to be exciting whatever happens.
“I’m an exciting fighter and I am must-see TV regardless and it all will reveal itself.”

Mike Tyson to wear iconic black shorts in nod to 1980s world champion years in comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr

MIKE TYSON will wear iconic blank trunks in a nod to his 1980s world champion years for his comeback fight with Roy Jones Jr.

And he looks set to be back in his famous black shorts for the exhibition fight.
Tyson made the classic trunks part of his image during his years at the top of the sport.
Plenty of iconic photos from the late 1980s when he was at his absolute peak are complete with the simple all-black design – a far cry from the glitzy outfits of the modern era.
And as well as having the throwback black shorts, it looks as though The Baddest Man on the Planet will also be boasting a physique in November not dissimilar to the one he had at his world-champion best.

Pictures from training show the incredible body transformation he has gone through to get ready for his comeback, shedding the pounds and packing on the muscle by hitting the gym hard.
The fight against Jones Jr will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving weekend.
It is the first time Tyson has stepped back into the ring since ending his professional career in 2005 with defeat to Kevin McBridge.
The fight will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds.

No headguards will be worn but the fighters will be wearing larger 12-ounce gloves.
Technically the fight can only be stopped if there is a knock-out, but California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Forster said he will stop it as soon as a cut appears.
But Tyson said: “We’re throwing punches at each other. This is going to be my definition of fun. Broken eye sockets, broken jaw, broken rib. That’s fun to me.”

Fury, 32, uploaded the video online, and captioned it: “This is what’s coming for everyone 2021 to infinity.”
The clip comes after the Gypsy King suffered bad news as his proposed UK homecoming on December 5 was cancelled.
He was due to fight in Britain for the first time since 2018 and had chosen 20-0 German Agit Kabayel, 28, as his opponent.
But promoter Frank Warren revealed they could not come to a financial agreement without the support of paying fans.

Fury had cancelled his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder, 35, after their immediate rematch clause expired last month.
But Wilder – who was dethroned of the title in February – responded by initiating a mediation to review his case.
With the dispute set to be resolved this week, Fury’s US matchmaker Bob Arum revealed his next opponent will either be Wilder or Anthony Joshua.
But that is dependant on Joshua, 31, beating Kubrat Pulev, 39, on December 12.

Arum told iFL TV: “I’ve given everyone the word. Wait until the Pulev-Joshua fight.
“If Pulev wins, there’s no Joshua because Eddie has a rematch with Pulev. So that takes care of a big part of next year for Joshua.
“And so that leaves Wilder as the best guy. So if Pulev beats Joshua, we’ll talk to Fury about doing the Wilder fight at the end of February.”
He continued: “By the end of February, hopefully, the pandemic will be under control, and we’ll at least be able to put the [Fury vs. Wilder III] fight in Allegiant Stadium [in Las Vegas, Nevada], and do it for 15,000, 20,000 people in a 75,000 seat stadium.
“It’s all well and good for Fury to say that he wants to fight Joshua, but who knows if Joshua is going to be around after he fights my guy Pulev.” More
