Inside stunning Church House venue for Daniel Dubois fight with Joe Joyce next to Westminster Abbey and bombed in WW2

DANIEL DUBOIS’ clash with Joe Joyce on November 28 will take place in an unlikely venue – the spectacular Church House Westminster.
This week, promoter Frank Warren revealed the monster boxing match – as well as Anthony Yarde vs Lyndon Arthur a week later – would take place at the iconic venue.

The building is absolutely drenched in history, having been originally built in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
In 1937, it was renovated by architect Sir Herbert Baker, with the foundation stones even laid by Queen Mary.
Three years later, the building was complete – and officially opened by King George VI.
However, shortly afterwards, the structure took a direct hit from a German bomb during The Blitz in World War II.

Incredibly, the building suffered minimal damage, with then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill so impressed by its resilience, he refurbished it for use by the two Houses of Parliament for the remainder of the war.
Church House Westminster would become a frequent host of major Churchill speeches from then on.
Churchill famously launched his speech confirming the sinking of the Bismarck from the Hoare Memorial Hall.
The very same room then hosted the first-ever UN General Assembly AND UN Preparatory Commission and Security Council meetings in 1946.

    WHAT IS CHURCH HOUSE WESTMINSTER?

CHURCH House Westminster is a Grade-II listed multi-purpose event and conference venue uniquely located in tranquil Dean’s Yard.

It boasts 19 flexible event spaces – most of which offer stunning views of Westminster Abbey.
The dedicated team are consistently recognised by the BDRC Gold Standard for their commitment to service excellence throughout all areas.
The conference and event spaces are equipped with the latest technology, supported by the venue’s own in-house, award-winning audio-visual team.

These days, the venue is a Grade II-listed building, complete with 19 flexible event spaces.
In the coming weeks, it will welcome some of Britain’s top boxers, starting off with Dubois vs Joyce and then Yarde vs Arthur.
And Warren – celebrating 40 years as a promoter – can’t wait, saying: “I’m delighted to be able to confirm such a spectacular venue to host two weeks of fantastic big time boxing.
“It’ll be a more than fitting way to celebrate my forty years in professional boxing.
“Both these bouts are going to be battles for the history books, so it makes sense they’d take place in a venue so rich in history.
“Winston Churchill announced the sinking of the Bismarck inside this venue.
“And soon we’ll know who out of Dubois, Joyce, Yarde and Arthur will sink or swim.”

Tom Little cuts FOUR STONE ahead of Alen Babic fight and taking on five of most feared heavyweights in a row

TOM LITTLE could no longer live with the idea of his son and dad watching him become a bloated and battered punchbag.
The Hatfield giant has just taken on four of the planet’s most dangerous heavyweights in Filip Hrgovic, Daniel Dubois, David Price and Mahammadrasul Majidov – without barely a decent training session.

Little says he is sick of being a boxer’s punchbagCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

When the 33-year-old father-of-three walked in to the Wembley hotel ahead of Saturday’s fight with Alen Babic, he joked the huge poster of his 19st former self on the wall looked more like a man waiting for a bus than a fight.
That sort of joke is why the fearless Traveller has always landed primetime fights in the blue riband division.
But he is deadly serious when talking about why he has shed over four stone to finally make a serious go of his dangerous career.
“I couldn’t carry on lying to myself and my dad, who put so much into my career as a boxer,” Little said.

“After that Majidov fight, on the Anthony Joshua undercard in Saudi Arabia, something finally clicked and I sat there thinking ‘what the hell have you done?’
“The crazy thing is, and I shouldn’t say it because people lose their lives doing this job, but I make my peace with everyone before I go into these fights.
“I have had the blind commitment and courage to go into these fights, with very dangerous men, but not to train properly for them and give myself a chance. It’s crazy.
“I don’t want to be a punchbag for these lunatics to batter anymore. In the past I have taken decent lumps of money for fights because, when you have three kids and it’s half an hour’s work, it’s handy.

“But I would give every penny of that back now to guarantee I can get out with my faculties intact and a domestic title so my dad and son, Big Tom and Little Tom, are able to say they are proud of me.”
‘Not So’ Little and Babic have been building this battle on social media since the summer.
From the second he sussed Babic, a social media sensation managed by Dillian Whyte, was gaining a following he decided to whip himself into shape.
And that meant the 10-8 slugger, who claims to have enjoyed eating HEDGEHOGS during his misspent youth, gave up another surprising footstuff.
He said: “I have been offered the last two fights he had, on short notice, as soon as I turned the first one down I told my coach that we had to start training for this to come around.
“When I saw that old photo of me, I was just reminded of how I had let everyone down again and I made the bus joke to cover that up.
“When I boxed in Saudi, they flew me halfway around the world and, then I got there, I was so out of shape I was sucking my belly and face in for photos.
“But I have not missed a training session or cheated my diet, the only thing I have really craved is a cheeseboard but I didn’t cave in, my missus just went and bought me one for when I get home.”

After a bright amateur career down at 11st, Little spent a decade away from the sport and only returned to the gym when he had to get fit for a straightener on the street.
Now he has gone full circle and wants to leave a legacy for the third generation to take up.
“My boy is 12 now and loves boxing, my only advice is ‘do it seriously or not at all’ but how could I preach that when I was little more than a glorified clown?” he said.
“I would stand in front of the devil unfit, without training a day, but I am on the back of a proper camp now and I want to make sure I take the win home.
“Now I can sit my boy down and tell him first hand, ‘acting up might get you fights but it also gets you battered’.
“Now I want to be able to show him the rewards for working hard and not taking shortcuts. I want to leave something behind.”

Tyson Fury warned 2021 warm-up fight will KO chances of sensational Anthony Joshua double after December 5 bout axed

TYSON FURY has been warned a 2021 warm-up fight will KO his chances of a sensational Anthony Joshua double after his December 5 bout was ‘embarrassingly’ axed.
The Gypsy King was supposed to dance with little-known Agit Kabayel one week before AJ handles a mandatory defence against veteran Kubrat Pulev on December 12.

Fury has been warned a 2021 warm-up fight could KO his chances of taking on JoshuaCredit: Richard Pelham

Hearn has claimed a fight in early 2021 for Fury could see his chance of fighting AJ scrappedCredit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd

The Brit pair have agreed the financial terms on a two-leg undisputed decider.
But Fury’s Christmas homecoming getting canned has left AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn concerned.
The Matchroom boss has WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk waiting in wings and he reckons Fury’s flop has shown the world he is not the star attraction he claims to be.
Hearn told SunSport: “I think they have been quite honest in admitting that they couldn’t afford to do the fight.

“That is embarrassing but we are in unprecedented times, so it was very honest.
“It does show that he is not the huge draw that some people think he is.
“Tyson cannot do massive pay-per-view numbers on BT, he cannot generate the sort of revenue and global TV deals that Anthony Joshua can.
“And that is why AJ is fighting and he isn’t – and Kubrat Pulev is a lot more expensive than Agit Kabayel.

Joshua will take on Pulev next month ahead of his potential Fury showdownCredit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd

“I hope he doesn’t fight anyone else because as soon as AJ demolishes Pulev on December 12, we want to make the Fury fight immediately.
“If he does that then we will go to Usyk and you might not get the fight at all in 2021.
“Fury needs to wait, watch the Pulev fight and then we can make the fight.
“AJ’s only focus, after Pulev, is Tyson Fury and if we can’t do that then Usyk will be next.”
Fury has lost a fortune on his latest training camp, flying over American trainer SugarHill Steward and nutritionist George Lockhart and destroying a ceiling by punching a heavy bag off the fittings.
The 6ft 9in WBC champ has kept constantly fit since his magnificent February rematch win over Deontay Wilder and claimed he needed a keep-busy fight to maintain his mental health.

SunSport’s pound for pound top ten
So news of the cancellation – and a worrying court case with Wilder over their supposed trilogy fight – could not have come at a worse time.
Hearn said: “I think it is very frustrating for Tyson because I have seen the work he has put in. He has spent a lot of money and there is nothing coming in.
“It is never a good look to have to admit that you can’t get the money together to do a fight.
“They also still have the Deontay Wilder mess to sort out.
“If you believe his promoters then they have no issues to worry about but – when something is going through arbitration, where a judge will decide – it makes me think they shouldn’t be so confident.
“I kept saying that if Deontay and his manager Shelly Finkel have really let that rematch clause expire, then they are clowns. And I don’t believe they are clowns.”

But he is making the most of his time there by joining the commentary team for Iron Mike’s comeback against Roy Jones.
The UFC middleweight champion will be ringside to serve as analyst on November 28 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
That is according to Sports Illustrated, who also revealed the rest of the commentary team.
And Tyson and Jones will not be the only boxing legend involved.

Fellow ring icon ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard will also don the headset to see the two veterans pull the gloves back on.
And he will be joined by experienced commentator Al Bernstein.
Adesanya told Sports Illustrated: “I am so grateful that I am going to be there commentating.
“Mike’s been retired for so many years, so this is something I never thought I’d see again.

“But as soon as I saw a clip of him training, I thought, ‘What the f…? Mike Tyson is banging again.”

Adesanya and fellow fighters Carlos Ulberg and Brad Riddell have been stuck in America for over a month after being unable to get a voucher to enter New Zealand’s managed isolation system until December 15.
Meanwhile, Tyson once again wowed fans ahead of the fight with his latest workout video.
He provided them with another glimpse of what they can expect by showing off his chiselled physique with a shirtless photo of himself complete with the wearing of his gloves and famous black shorts in the ring.

Sugar Ray Leonard, the vicious animal, whose incredible achievements surpassed even the great Muhammad Ali

THE exceptional performance of the 20th century surely belongs to Sugar Ray Leonard.
His sensational and controversial victory over Marvelous Marvin Hagler, surpassed anything Muhammad Ali ever did.

Leonard upset the odds in stunning style to win the world titleCredit: Sports Illustrated

Sugar Ray Leonard’s incredible victory over Marvin Hagler is detailed in this book

Almost to a man the boxing world believed Leonard had taken leave of his senses and expressed their horror after he announced he wanted to challenge Hagler.
Their genuine fear for his health and safety was understandable. Sugar Ray, forced to retire after retina surgery, had fought just once in five years.
Yet the former world welterweight champion wanted to move up to take on Hagler, arguably the greatest of all world middleweight champions who had been unbeaten for 11 years with 12 title defences behind him.
Legendary trainer Emanuel Steward, spoke for most when he said: “A Hagler-Leonard fight would be a fraud on the public. It would be another Ali-Holmes show. A hoax.”

Promoter Bob Arum, equally scathing said: “Hagler would take out Leonard in 30 seconds. It would be ridiculous.
“I wouldn’t promote it because I don’t want to turn the sport into wrestling. It would be ludicrous. A joke.”
So who was the promoter when Hagler and Leonard came face-to face in the Caesars Palace ring, on April 6, 1987? Why, a guy named Bob Arum.
Sitting ringside that night I could feel the unbearable tension emanating from the 15,000 open-air crowd as they waited for the opening bell.

SunSport’s boxing columnist Colin Hart believes Leonard’s achievements outweight those of Muhammad AliCredit: Getty – Contributor

They had been led to believe they were about to see Hagler seriously hurt the Olympic gold medallist they called America’s sweetheart, who he contemptuously referred to as ‘Pretty Boy’.
How and why Leonard came to defy logic to win a split decision is painstakingly researched and entertainingly explained by Brian Doogan, then the Sunday Times boxing correspondent, in his book The SuperFight, published this month.
Leonard admits he became an alcoholic and a cocaine addict during his years of idleness which makes his remarkable triumph beyond belief.
Doogan’s interviews with both men and those connected to them reveals the behind-the-scenes machinations that enable the fight to be made – at the time the richest in history grossing nearly $100 million.
I’m not going to spoil it by giving away the plot but it’s fascinating the way Leonard, as cunning as the slyest fox, manipulated a reluctant Hagler into accepting the challenge.

Marvin Hagler just couldn’t find a way to beat LeonardCredit: Getty Images – Getty
What comes across abundantly clear Hagler didn’t like Leonard one bit – and still doesn’t.
Marvin a product of the riot-torn Newark ghetto regarded Leonard with his much softer lower-middle-class background as something of a dilettante.
Hagler when asked what he intended to do to Sugar Ray when he got him in range of his concussive fists said chillingly: “He probably won’t talk no more, might not see no more and might not even walk no more. I liker to mess-up pretty faces.”
But Leonard, a master strategist, had done his homework. Outwitting and outboxing Hagler for most of the 12 rounds he got the verdict that still leads to hostile arguments 33 years later.
Sugar Ray said: “I studied Marvin’s temperament and disposition. I did my own research on him as a person. Not physically but psychologically.”

Hagler says to this day that he was cheated out of victoryCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Hagler, who never fought again, to this day bitterly maintains he was blatantly robbed by the Vegas judges.
Defeat turned him into a recluse for months and his manager Pat Petronelli said: “It shattered Marvin’s life. He became moody, depressed and he hasn’t been able to deal with it.
“He said he will take this to his grave. It’s more to him than death itself.”
Superfight – the perfect Christmas gift for fight fans – opens with Mike Tyson giving his assessment of Leonard’s character.
Tyson writes “Ray Leonard was a pit-bull with a pretty face. Outside the ring he was cute, articulate, smart, great looking.
“But deep inside he was a vicious animal. When it comes to this fighting thing he’s like a monster.”
    Some dilettante.

Mike Tyson, 54, shows off hulking body transformation as he counts down the days until huge Roy Jones Jr fight

MIKE TYSON has once again shown off the results from his stunning body transformation as he prepares for his comeback fight with Roy Jones Jr.
The boxing legend, 54, looks to be in the shape of his life prior to climbing back between the ropes for the highly-anticipated exhibition bout on November 28.

Mike Tyson has shown off his new ripped physique on Instagram

The legend is preparing for his comeback against Roy Jones JrCredit: https://www.instagram.com/miketyson/

The American legend has been working hard in the gym for months now after first teasing his comeback in May.
Fans were going wild as he shared footage of himself working out in various video clips and photos.
Now he has provided them with another glimpse of what they can expect by showing off his chiselled physique with a shirtless photo of himself complete with the wearing of his gloves and famous black shorts in the ring.
British boxing star Daniel Subois commented: “Legend in the game.”

Meanwhile Youtuber Jake Paul wrote: “BIGGEST FIGHT OF THE DECADE.”
Tyson, who ripped off his top to reveal his shredded arms and abs to interrupt in an interview with NFL quarterback Russell Wilson last week, retired in 2005 and claimed to have not trained since his last loss, against Kevin McBride 15 years ago.
And he now looks a completely different man from the one seen in 2018, after shedding the pounds and packing on the muscle after taking his return to the ring seriously.
The Baddest Man on the Planet, 54 opened up on his dramatic body transformation earlier this summer – revealing he has shed six stone.

Tyson told TMZ Sports: “At one time I was just 90lbs over weight I was doing cocaine, I was drinking and I said Allah if he can stop me from being this way, I’ll change my whole life.”
“And eventually, I got married, my life started to change, and I started working out.
“My brother in law said, ‘hey listen. I know you don’t want to fight, but would you fight Bob Sapp?
“Somebody wants to offer you a lot of money to fight him. I said, ‘get out of here, I told you I don’t want to fight anymore.”
“And then I thought about it in my mind and went ‘ding’ – I said I would fight [Sapp under the marquess of queensberry rules] and for some reason, it went from Bob Sapp to somebody else, and this guy, and the next thing you know, I’m fighting Roy Jones Jr.
“I don’t know how this happened. I’m just very grateful that I’m not living the life that I was living before. Allah has blessed for me to be able to do this.”

Canelo to fight SIXTH Brit in Callum Smith – how have the other five fared including brother Liam and Amir Khan?

BRIT BASHER Canelo Alvarez has another Englishman on the menu but Callum Smith is hellbent on restoring national pride.
On December 19, Smith will defend his WBA and Ring magazine super-middleweight belts against the Mexican sensation in his adopted fighting US home.

Despite all the physical advantages, Smith will be a huge underdog as he has been hired to be an extra on the Saul Alvarez show.
The 30-year-old is a four-weight world champion and arguably the finest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.
There have been a handful of UK stepping stones for the flame-haired ace to use on his journey to the top and one of them is even a part of Smith’s iconic fighting family.

Matthew Hatton, March 2011, vacant WBC super-welterweight title
Manchester boxing legend Ricky’s brother put on a typically tough performance to do the family proud when the pair clashed in California.

Hatton took the rapidly rising star the distance but was edged out 119-108 on every scorecard.
Canelo showed malice to match his genius when he whacked Hatton illegally in round seven, after the referee had called a break.
Alvarez was only 20 at the time, taking on a 29-year-old European champion.
But the new starlet had been a professional since the age of 15 – thanks to Mexico’s more liberal laws on the pro game – and used all of his experience and skill to get the win.

Canelo though, in his first world title shot, missed the pre-arranged 150lbs limit by 1.8lbs and paid Hatton a small compensation.

Ryan Rhodes, June 2011, defending WBC super-welterweight title
Having crossed the border to win the vacant title three months earlier, Canelo was handed a proper homecoming party with his first defence.
Hard man Rhodes was picked to travel to Mexico – arriving with a 45-4 record – to give the Jalisco darling his latest test.
The bout was a huge commercial success, landing 1.6m viewers on American network HBO and Rhodes deserves plenty of credit for co-starring in the show.
Canelo floored the brave Brit in the fourth with a four-shot combination but he climbed off the deck and battled on.
Rhodes absorbed crippling punishment to the body but was still able to showboat with defensive skills in the tenth.
But Alvarez unloaded a torrent in the final round and the ref dived in just as Rhodes’ cornerman Dave Coldwell threw in the white towel.

Amir Khan, May 2016, WBC middleweight title
Canelo gave the Brits six years off after the Rhodes and Hatton double, rampaging through stellar names like Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto but taking on Floyd Mayweather too early and suffering his only career defeat.
Bolton’s 2004 Olympic silver winner was on a five-fight win streak and had just claimed the WBC welterweight crown, when he was offered the chance to jump up two weight classes.
He was either too brave or greedy to turn Canelo down and was poleaxed with one hellish round-six right hand.
Khan fairly felt he had made the brighter start, though was behind on two of the cards, but the right hand was sensational and changed the course of the British boxing hero’s career forever.

Amir Khan was left flattened by the MexicanCredit: Reuters
Liam Smith, September 2016, WBO super-welterweight title
With Khan still recovering from the sickening right hand that collapsed him in the T-Mobile Arena, Canelo did a deal to drop down a division to meet Callum Smith’s elder brother Liam just four months later.
The 25-0 Liverpool ace had made two impressive defences of his 11st title and rightly fancied his chances of shocking Alvarez.
Liam had success but Canelo looked impervious to pain and, even when Alvarez was pinned back on the ropes, it seemed like he was in control.
The Mexican’s body punching was frightening and each time Smith dared to lower his guard to protect his organs, he was smashed to the skull.
In the seventh, Smith was beaten to the canvas and heroically beat the count, but he was sunk again in the seventh by a punch to the gut.
And another Canelo left hook to the body, after playing possum on the ropes in round nine, finished Liam Smith and would have sent ripples back across the Mersey.

Rocky Fielding, December 2018, WBA super-middleweight title
Fielding had landed the title in a bizarre and shock July win so Canelo wasted no time securing the 6ft 1in Liverpool fighter as an early Christmas gift for himself.
Fielding had just four months to enjoy his reign and he would have made life-changing money the moment he signed up to face the 5ft 8in challenger.
Fielding could have turned up and collapsed under the first attack, he would not have earned a penny more.
Instead he was floored four times inside three rounds and was saved from his own courage when the one-sided fight was becoming unbearable to watch.

And the pair ramped up speculation of a fight after trading words online.
Later, an image shared on Instagram showed 25-year-old Paul after a recent sparring session.
Amateur boxer Angel Lozano, who shared the picture, went on to praise the social media star’s skill in the ring which ‘will surprise a lot of you’.
Lozano wrote: “Everyone asking is he any good he solid work I promise he will surprise a lot of you.

He said: “Let me tell you this, if I caught Floyd in a real fight, street fight, whoop his ass, no question.
