Ruiz Jr’s ex-trainer reveals secret to beating Anthony Joshua and admits he ‘lost control’ of boxer after historic win

MANNY ROBLES has lifted the lid on the key to beating Anthony Joshua after masterminding Andy Ruiz Jr’s win against the British star in June 2019.
The former trainer of the Mexican-American heavyweight – who floored the 2012 Olympic gold medallist four times – has stated that AJ must improve his defence.

Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the world when he beat Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden

Ruiz Jr lacked the motivation in his rematch against AJ which resulted in him losing his world titles

Speaking to Marc Gatford via the MyBettingSites.co.uk blog, Robles revealed where the 31-year-old is vulnerable.
He said: “The right hand. If you time the right hand properly and jab to the chest, jab to the body and come over with the right hand, that’s where I feel Joshua is vulnerable.
“You saw that in the (Alexander) Povetkin fight who landed the right hand. Most fighters that have been able to hurt Joshua – it’s been the right hand.
“If you don’t work on keeping that left hand up, or getting away from the right hand, the same thing is going to continue to happen.

“Got to work on that defence. Joshua is a great fighter, a great person but he’s vulnerable too, he’s human.
“He’s not perfect, he makes mistakes. And we capitalised on those mistakes in June 2019.”
Robles – who parted ways with Ruiz Jr in January after he slammed his professionalism following his defeat to Joshua last December – has claimed that he ‘lost control’ of the Destroyer ahead of the rematch.
Addressing Ruiz Jr’s lack of motivation, he stated: “I had to put up with a lot, I had to endure a lot, it wasn’t fun.

Ruiz Jr has teamed up with Eddy Reynoso after parting ways with Manny Robles
“I did the best I could to get him to focus on the fight and keep him disciplined but unfortunately his mind was somewhere else.”
Before adding: “He says he wasn’t motivated – you’re already a world champion, you’re rich, you’ve got money in the bank now.
“What motivation do you want now? You’re not homeless anymore.
“You buy yourself a mansion and you’re telling me you’re not motivated? You’re kidding me?
“Unfortunately the dad had a lot to do with the situation ending. We lost control of Andy, so the dad decided to blame this on me.
“He said I’m not doing my job, but I am not his dad. You’re his dad, you control him.

“If you can’t control your own son, how do you expect me to control the guy?
“Andy admitted after the fight he f***** up. He said he didn’t train properly and takes the blame’ – as he should. After that I don’t know what happened, he’s acting like he won the damn fight.”
Ruiz Jr is now working with Saul Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso as he bids to become a two-time world champion.

Mike Tyson’s explosive punching power like being hit by grand piano, says top doc as brain surgeon warns about comeback

BEING punched by Mike Tyson is like being hit by a grand piano, according to a top doctor.
The 54-year-old will come out of retirement to face Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout on November 28.

Former heavyweight world champion Tyson looks in incredible shape ahead of his return to the ring after losing 100lbs.
The American called time on his career in 2005 with an impressive record of 50-6 including 44 knockouts.
A top doctor, who has a PhD in High Sports Performance, has revealed what it is like to be hit by the powerhouse.
Irineu Loturco claimed Tyson can hit his opponent in the head with an impact equivalent to 450kg – which is the weight of a grand piano.

As cited by Globoesporte, he said: “A punch from a heavyweight boxer can hit the rival in the head with an impact equivalent to 450 kilos.
“It is worth saying that this is an average value within the published studies.
“Mike Tyson has always been well above that.”
A neurologist has also revealed the risk that Tyson and Jones Jr – with a combined age of 105 – are taking by making a comeback.

Renato Anginnah warned: “Our brain ages naturally and is more likely to suffer serious injuries.
“Assimilating a blow at 54 is different from receiving a blow at 20. It is much more serious. And that, of course, involves a greater risk.”
As things stand in the current heavyweight division, Deontay Wilder is claimed to be the most powerful puncher of the lot.
But Tyson, 54, looked back to his best as he showed off his power on an aqua bag during a brutal training session.
He has insisted he feels ‘better than ever physically and mentally’ after 15 years of retirement.

The former Baddest Man on the Planet is at his lowest weight since the age of 18 when he made his debut at 15st 2lbs.
Jones Jr, 51, has shockingly admitted ‘death is a possibility’ when he squares off against Tyson.
Tyson’s trainer Rafael Cordeiro has insisted that Tyson could ‘kill somebody’ – even at the age of 54.

Mike Tyson’s rival Roy Jones Jr is Russian citizen, starred in The Matrix, had hit rap album and loves hunting

ON Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Roy Jones Jr will return to the ring after two years in the wilderness.
In a boxing career that spanned 19 years and a remarkable 75 fights in both the middleweight and heavyweight division, the 5ft 11in slugger will defy his age of 51 years to fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight.

Roy Jones Jr has led a colourful life outside the ringCredit: Instagram @royjonesjrofficial

In 2015, Jones Jr became a Russian citizen after a meeting with Vladimir Putin

And it’s fair to say, the man nicknamed Captain Hook has led just as colourful a life.
Five years ago, Jones Jr was granted Russian Citizenship by president Vladimir Putin, and he regularly returns to the country to give boxing masterclasses to young amateurs.
Chris Eubank Jr also profited from the former WBA heavyweight champion’s experience back in May, when the pair were seen training in the gym together.
And his rap game is on point, earning 9.5million YouTube views for his 2001 hit ‘Y’all must Have Forgot’ and featuring clips of Jones Jr with bikini-clad beauties and onboard a yacht.

While in his spare time on his ranch in Pensacola, Florida Jones Jr tends to his roosters (he was once an advocate for cockfighting), catches snakes, and enjoys hunting.
    MEETING PUTIN
In 2015, Jones Jr travelled to Crimea for a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Over a cup of tea, he told the Russian leader that he wanted citizenship in the country to pursue his business interests there.
As a boxing advocate, he wanted to train amateurs and said he felt more appreciated overseas than in America.

“After my arrival in Russia, I saw that there is a large community of boxers,” he revealed.

“I also felt appreciated in Russia. Maybe even a lot more than I was valued and appreciated in my own country.”
Putin reportedly accepted Jones Jr’s proposal on the grounds he would spend most of his time in Russia.
He vowed to learn the language and open boxing schools in Russia to train up-and-coming prospects.
    PART-TIME RAPPER
Normally when sports stars crossover to the music world, it’s with mixed results.
But Jones Jr had a genuine hit with ‘Y’all Must Have Forgot’. And clearly no one has because the video for the single is still clocking up views on YouTube – and currently sits just under the 10 million mark.
19 years ago (we’re still waiting for a follow-up), he released his debut album imaginatively titled ‘Round One: The Album’.
He then formed hip hop group Body Head Bangerz and released cult classic ‘Can’t Be Touched’ that broke the US Top 40.

But we’ve not heard anything since those early noughties efforts, as he’s let his boxing do his talking.
That said, the entertainment business wasn’t completely robbed of Jones Jr.
Like many boxers, he has tasted Hollywood success – appearing in the Devil’s Advocate in 1997 opposite Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino.
He starred as Captain Ballard in both Matrix: Reloaded and Enter The Matrix, as well as recent hits Southpaw and Creed II.
His fame outside the ring led to the 2014 launch of his own scent – ‘Legend’ – that originally sold for £55.
    AN OUTDOORSY TYPE
Although his fame and fortune have seen Jones Jr earn around £33million during his career, he just loves the simple life.
He lives on a sprawling 80-acre estate in Pensacola, Florida, where he preaches an outdoor lifestyle.

He has roosters, snakes and dogs for company, although he once courted controversy for being an advocate of cockfighting, which is something he now has stepped away from.
And on his Instagram, Jones Jr shares his love of hunting, shooting and even fishing – once hooking a shark.
If he can tackle a shark, surely Mike Tyson won’t pose a threat? More

Fury shared the clip to his 3.8 million followers on Instagram

Uploading the clip on his Instagram story to his 3.8 million followers, Tyson could be heard cheering on his wife as Paris relentlessly punched away.
Along with Tyson, Paris was put through her paces by the Gypsy King’s strength and conditioning coach Kristian Blacklock.

“Another day smashed. Another hour smashed. Well done Paris, well done Kristian, fantastic work.”

Paris and Tyson worked out together regularly during the first lockdown earlier this year, where the mother-of-five kept up with her husband’s gruelling 700 ab reps.
Tyson later claimed that Paris could outwork his boxing rivals as he lauded her fitness during their sessions.
He said: “She is fitter than me, outdoing me now, I have created a monster.”
Before adding: “You’re fit, you’re fit as a fiddle. Honestly, you’d outwork a lot of boxers, she would outwork a lot of boxers.

Tyson Fury said his wife Paris is now fitter than him

“She’s fit as a fiddle, you got fit Paris I tell you that! In six-seven weeks you got amazingly fit.”
Fury – who still has no opponent announced for his next fight – showered Paris with gifts last weekend after celebrating 12 years of marriage.

The incredible story of how the Buffer brothers Michael and Bruce met and became multi-millionaire boxing and UFC icons

BOXING and UFC would not be the same without the Buffer Brothers’ famous introductions.
But the road to the top for the iconic multi-millionaire announcers was an amazing one as the siblings did not know the other existed until much later in life.

Bruce (left) and Michael (centre) Buffer are multi-millionaire UFC and boxing announcersCredit: Instagram @brucebufferufc

Michael, 75, is world famous for his legendary ‘LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE’ catch phrase and will be the announcer at Mike Tyson’s historic comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr on Saturday.
While Bruce, 63, has become synonymous with UFC for his ‘IIIIIT’S TIME’ introduction.
The pair are business partners with an estimated combined personal net worth of £312million – Michael £305m and Bruce £7m – but it could have all been so different.
A tail involving James Bond, the US Army, a £300m trademark and help from Donald Trump has seen the American duo rise to the top in the glizty and glamorous world of global fight sports.

Joe Buffer – who died in 2008 – is the brothers’ father.
And having married Michael’s mother young, he left to fight with the US Army in World War II – soon after Michael was born on November 2, 1944.
Buffer Sr divorced Michael’s mother when he returned nine months later and the couple became estranged.
Unable to cope as a single mum, Michael was fostered by the Huber family and took on that surname.

But the pair did not meet until they were adultsCredit: Instagram @brucebufferufc

Until he also joined the US Army in 1965 during the war with Vietnam and that all changed.
Bruce described: “My dad never told me that when he was serving in World War II he had gotten married at a young age.
“A son was born and nine months later when he came back they divorced.
“The last time he saw the child was when he was two-and-a-half.
“Michael was raised by foster parents under the name of Huber but when he went into the army during the Vietnam war [recruiters] saw his birth certificate and told him his name was Buffer as he was never formally adopted as Huber.”
Bruce meanwhile was raised by his mother Connie, 91, – who he still calls after every UFC event – and Joe.
And he had no idea Michael even existed until his late 20s when he spotted him on TV working a boxing event in 1984.
Bruce was running his own telephone sales company at the time flogging printer ink and Herbalife products.
And he said: “I saw this man come out. This very handsome, debonair James Bond style man with an incredible voice.
“All of a sudden I’m becoming a fan and then he started putting his name on the TV screen and it said Michael Buffer and I thought ‘are you kidding me?”

The brothers became business partners soon after meetingCredit: Getty – Contributor

But the truth was finally revealed during a road trip Bruce and Joe took to San Francisco in 1985.
Having been curious for months, Bruce said: “Long story short, my father and I are on a road trip to San Francisco and by this time Michael is as famous as the boxers.
“People are asking me if he’s my brother and I tell them no.”
But having asked his dad if he had any idea who Michael – who styles himself on James Bond – was, Buffer Sr made the shocking revelation.
Joe replied: “I think that’s your brother.”
The siblings eventually met in 1989 after Joe contacted Michael and explained the situation.
And Bruce remembers the night fondly.
He said: “The feeling that overtook me was A: I’m a big fan of his work and a fan of what he does.
“But B: this is my blood. This is my brother. I’m hit by a kind of double whammy. It was a wonderful night. I was just so happy we all got along.”

And are always present at the biggest fight events in the worldCredit: PA:Press Association
Within a year, the half-brothers who had never met before were business partners for life.
Bruce helped Michael – who now earns £30,000 per event – trademark his famous ‘LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE’ catchphrase for a reported £300m.
And in return, Michael helped Bruce – who lives alone having never married – get his first gigs in the UFC.
Having been introduced to UFC in the early 90s Bruce was doing the odd event here and there before an appearance on world famous sitcom FRIENDS – where he played himself – made it impossible for the franchise to overlook him again.
Michael – who beat throat cancer in 2008 – had been a failed car salesman and a successful male model before breaking onto the boxing scene.
And he recalled how Trump got him his big break during his early days as an announcer in Atlantic City.
Michael said: “Trump had a big heavyweight fight, and I wasn’t the announcer, but I was connected through Budweiser, to get a front-row seat.
“So I showed up, and Trump came over to me. He said, ‘Didn’t my people call you?’ I said no.
“He said, ‘Well, we’re going to have a lot of big fights here, and you’re going to be the ring announcer.’ From that day on, it was pretty nice for me.”

Mike Tyson’s face tattoo and other inks meanings from communist leaders to former tennis champ and ex-wife he cheated on

OVER the years, Mike Tyson has enjoyed getting inked up.
Memorably, his most famous tattoo is his tribal design etched on the left side of his head.

Mike Tyson has six tattoos, including his infamous face inkCredit: Getty Images – Getty

However, that could’ve been something completely different had the slugger had his way – read below.
In total, ‘Iron Mike’ has six tattoos – but what are they and what do they all mean?
Let SunSport walk you through Tyson’s body art.
What does Mike Tyson’s tribal face tattoo mean?
In 2003, Mike, 53, went under the needle of renowned tattoo artist Victor Whitmill.

Originally, he wanted his face to be covered in heart tattoos – so he would be recognised as ‘The Man of hearts.’
However, Whitmill strongly advised against that idea and instead gave him the tribal design.
In the 2008 documentary ‘Tyson’ the former heavyweight champ says it represents his ‘warrior status.’ You wouldn’t argue with him.
In popular culture, it featured in The Hangover film – which Tyson starred in – on the face of dentist, Stu Price.

Why did he get a Chairman Mao tattoo?
On Tyson’s right bicep, is a tattoo of Chinese communist revolutionary, Mao Zedong.
When he was in prison serving time for rape, the fearsome puncher was said to have read up on Zedong’s politics and identified with them.
He wanted to feel less shallow, and is also said to keep a collection of ‘Chairman Mao’s’ writings.
Tyson got the tattoo in tribute to his new inspiration.

    What about Che Guevara?
Tyson went one further than any East End hipster who may wear the image of the Argentine Marxist revolutionary on a T-shirt.
He got a tattoo of Che Guevara on his ribcage – complete with his famous beret.
Tyson was once asked why he decided on having Guevara tattoed on his body.
He said: “Che Guevara is an incredible individual. He had so much, but sacrificed it all for the benefit of other people.”

    The ex-wife
When you love someone so much, it’s only natural that you want to show the world.
Tyson did just that with his ex-wife Monica Turner by getting her face tattooed on the left side of his forearm.
They married in 1997, but were divorced in 2002 after Turner claimed adultery during their five-year marriage.

    Dragon
On his right forearm, Tyson boasts a rather fetching dragon tattoo.
He hasn’t ever commented on it, but in Chinese culture the dragon represents strength, wisdom and freedom.
It’s the most popular creature that’s requested at tattoo studios, but we wouldn’t knock Mike for authenticity.

    Arthur Ashe
    What on earth?
Now, Tyson didn’t strike us as a tennis fan. But he does have the three-time Grand Slam winner Arthur Ashe on his right shoulder.
Scribbled above the image are the words, ‘DAYS OF GRACE’.

Outside of sport, Ashe was well known for supporting social causes and set up the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of Aids.
Tyson, himself, has become an activist for a holistic lifestyle through his cannabis empire.
