Meet Rashad Coulter, ex-UFC, Bellator and American Football star who switched to boxing to face Hasim Rahman’s son

RASHAD COULTER is the ex-UFC and Bellator heavyweight who crossed over to boxing on a mission to revive his career.
Coulter faces cruiserweight replacement Hasim Rahman Jr on Saturday on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s comeback against Roy Jones Jr.

Before his fighting career, he played American Football for 17 years.
But in 2010 his good friend Muhammed Lawal – known as ‘King Mo’ – introduced Coulter to Muay Thai.
Within a year of training he made his MMA debut, winning by knockout.
After five fights on the local circuit in Texas, Coulter was given his first big break with a stoppage win against Jeremiah O’Neal under the Bellator banner.

It didn’t go unnoticed, as three victories and two years later the heavy-hitter was signed by the UFC.
But he suffered a disastrous start in MMA’s elite, losing three on the spin, all by knockout.
His fourth and final fight for the UFC did see him successful outpointing Hu Yaozong in a light-heavyweight fight, which he missed weight for.

It spelled the end of the road for his time in the octagon, but the 38-year-old had one more MMA bout, losing to Isaac Villanueva last year.

Despite his up and down career in the cage, Coulter is unbeaten in his four boxing matches.
He made his debut in the ring six years ago, winning on the cards, but has since stopped his other three opponents.
Coulter was due to face Viddal Riley, also unbeaten in four bouts, this weekend but the 23-year-old Londoner has pulled out injured.
Instead, he will fight Rahman Jr, who is 9-0 and the son of Hasim Sr, the man who knocked out Lennox Lewis in 2001.
Coulter grew up watching his next opponent’s dad, and will now share the ring with his son.
He said to MMA Island: “I’m blessed to still be on the card.
“Hasim is a skilled dude who has grown up around boxing, so it’s a new opponent but the same plan.

“I know he is southpaw and he switches but my job is to fight my fight and not let him dictate the pace.
“He is tough and has a good record, I have never ran from a fight and this will be great. I grew up watching his pops so this will be fun.
“But again this is strictly business.”
With the mass attention surrounding this weekend’s event, Coulter is looking to capitalise on the hype train and book a ticket back into the UFC.
He told BJ Penn.com: “For me, it opens up more boxing doors and in MMA, it could open up bigger MMA fights like me even going back to the UFC.
“It is a big platform for me.
“My heart is always in MMA, the UFC is a great promotion and I would love to be back in the UFC.
“There are several fights at 205 I want in the UFC. If I go finish Viddal, it will open more doors in MMA.”

Who is Mike Tyson’s trainer Rafael Cordeiro? MMA star training boxing legend for Roy Jones Jr comeback

IRON MIKE is back after a 15-year absence.
All eyes will be on the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night as Mike Tyson enters the ring for the first time since 2005.

The former heavyweight champion of the world will go up against Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout, with Rafael Cordeiro in his corner.
    Who is Rafael Cordeiro?
Tyson has got himself into phenomenal shape for his big comeback – and Cordeiro has played a huge part in the champ’s stunning body transformation.
A former MMA star and a fearsome competitor, Cordeiro is a three-time Brazilian Muay Thai world champion.
The Brazilian-born hardman stepped out of the ring in his late 20s with a professional MMA record of four wins and two defeats.

Cordeiro then moved to the USA in 2008 and heads up the famous Kings MMA gym in California, which he founded a decade ago.

The gym has churned out a number of MMA superstars, including Wanderlei Silva, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and lightweight scrapper Rafael dos Anjos.
In 2016, Cordeiro was named Coach of the Year and Kings was awarded Gym of the Year in a clean-sweep at the MMA Awards.
Tyson and Cordeiro linked up earlier this year and the martial arts expert has whipped the 53-year-old former champ into remarkable shape.

And Cordeiro, 47, has been stunned by the power of the Baddest Man on the Planet who hasn’t been in the ring since retiring against Kevin McBride 15 years ago.
He said: “As soon as we started training I said ‘My Lord’. I didn’t know what to expect from a guy who hasn’t hit mitts for – I think – almost ten years.
“So I didn’t expect to see what I saw – I saw a guy with the same speed, the same power as a guy who is 21, 22-years-old.

Mike Tyson’s incredible bodyweight workout routine
“And I can tell; you would have to be a good guy to spar with Mike, because if you don’t prepare, he is going to drop you for sure – 100%.
    “The power is different level.
“I have trained a lot of heavyweights in my career, with not a lot of respect for everybody, but he is almost as powerful as Wanderlei Silva is right now.
“When you talk about power, I held his right hook and thought ‘he is going to kill somebody’.”

When is Tyson vs Jones Jr?
The big fight is now set for Thanksgiving Weekend – Saturday, November 28 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The legends are set to eight rounds in the ring, with Youtube star Jake Paul and NBA star Nate Robinson confirmed for the undercard.
BT Sport Box Office will be broadcasting the fight in the UK and will cost cost £19.95 to watch. More

Mike Tyson clash with Roy Jones Jr ‘breaks pre-fight PPV sales’ as boxer claims ‘numbers don’t lie, haters are mad’

MIKE TYSON has hit back at ‘haters’ following reports of record PPV sales for his fight with Roy Jones Jr.
The heavyweight legend steps back into the ring on Saturday night at the age of 54, to face his 51-year-old opponent.

Some have criticised the fight due to the fighters’ age and the fact that Tyson, in particular, has not boxed in over 15 years.
But Iron Mike took to Twitter to slam his critics with a screenshot of a Yahoo! report on the fight’s financial success.
    He wrote: “Numbers don’t lie.
“Haters are mad they can’t get numbers like this.

“Saturday is reckoning. Roy Jones Jr you better be ready.”
The report detailed how Tyson vs Jones Jr had broken pre-fight sales records for digital pay-per-view purchases.

Over 300 crew members are working on delivering the behind-closed-doors event, which takes place in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
A hefty undercard features YouTuber Jake Paul’s fight with former NBA star Nate Robinson and James DeGale’s former nemesis Badou Jack.

Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and Ne-Yo are among the musicians due to perform in between contests.
Yet, critics include promoter Frank Warren, who has described the veterans’ showdown as ‘sad’.
And UFC boss Dana White burst into laughter at a press conference when discussing the no-knockout rules of the fight.
US companies Triller and FITE are handling the production and believe the holiday occasion, with the fight taking place over Thanksgiving, will provide a further sales boost.

Michael Weber, COO for FITE, said: “FITE is excited to be a part of this pop cultural event with Triller’s Tyson vs. Jones fight.
“Currently, our advance sales for this event will make this the most watched event in our five-year history of streaming live sporting events.
“Our partners are also reporting advance sales that will put it on par with other top UFC and boxing events in the past few years.”

Eddie Hall vs Hafthor Bjornsson fight confirmed for September 2021 with pair set for ‘heaviest boxing match in history’

STRONGMEN Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson will fight in September 2021 in what is dubbed the ‘heaviest boxing match in history’.
The rivals – who competed against each other in World’s Strongest Man – have been training for the bout all year.

Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson will fight in September 2021

Brit Hall has since revealed his drastic body transformation ahead of the fight, despite still eating 7,000 calories a day during training.
He revealed he cut down to 25st 5lb in the summer.
And that is still over two stone heavier than Nikolai Valuev, the heaviest champion in history.
But punching legend Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch weighed as heavy as 29st 7lb the night he fought Joe Siciliano in 2007.

Bjornsson, known as ‘Thor, also showed off his weight loss in June, having dropped to 29st through strict boxing training.
It means there will be around 54st in weight inside the ring when Thor faces Hall.
Organisers Core Sports have now teamed up with boxing management company MTK Global, who work with several world champions including Tyson Fury.
MTK will act as advisors for the unprecedented fight, which has been confirmed for September next year in Las Vegas.

Hall, 32, said: “I’m training for this fight like I trained to be the strongest man in the world, no stone unturned and anyone in my way is getting milled down.
“With the experience MTK Global brings to the table, this event will be even better than it was going to be.
“As for the fight itself, I have zero doubt in my mind that cry baby Thor is getting folded in half and sent packing back to Iceland.”
Bjornsson, 31, added: “I’m very excited with MTK Global’s involvement as this is something I’ve been taking very seriously and I want others to know how serious this fight will be.
“I’ve been extremely focused and dedicated in my training as always and I am looking forward to getting in that ring.”

Daniel Dubois hopes cross-country gallops at local stud farm will make him lord of the manor after Joe Joyce showdown

DANIEL DUBOIS warned Joe Joyce that old-school horsepower straight off the new Peacock Farm will make him lord of the manor on Saturday night.
Champ Dubois defends his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles against the 2016 Olympic silver winner — after their vastly contrasting camps.

Solo slugger Joyce, 35, had an expensive Las Vegas trip to spar with UFC fighters axed due to the pandemic.
So he had to relocate to a gym in Surbiton, where trainer Ismael Salas wears platforms to hold pads for the 6ft 6in ace.
While Dynamite Dan — alongside a growing squad of champions — recently swapped the iconic Canning Town sweatbox for a stud estate in Epping that Peacock gym training brothers Martin and Tony Bowers have built.

With Dubois’ Olympic youth champion sister Caroline at home, plus new British and Southern Area champs Denzel Bentley and Chris Bourke chasing him on cross-country gallops, DDD now believes his stable are dead certs.

The 23-year-old brawler said: “Boxing is a lonely sport and if you take a loss, it’s down to the fighter.
“But any success comes down to the team you have around you and the gym.
“When I go through the ropes I am alone — and that’s just fine.
“But at home — and at the new gym — I am surrounded by a family and team of champions that I think will help make a difference for me against Joe.

“I don’t pay much attention to what he does. But I doubt he’s running through fields in the freezing fog and rain.
“We have all the sports science we need but we like things old school. There’s not even street lights around the gym, no public roads with pavements.
“When we arrive in the morning it’s pitch black and it’s the same when we leave after a session.
“While Joe has been training on computer games or in a nice warm gym, we have been running through forests in the freezing cold.
“That clean air is good for the lungs and even better for the mind. I see me beating Joe clearly and convincingly.”

Part of the Epping pile is an astro-turfed cage where Dubois and his cohorts pull a weighted sled and flip tyres for hours, to add even more power to their arsenal.
And the 15-0 star admits he might have to sort out better wheels and transport now that he is in more treacherous surroundings.
He added: “My dad drives me to and from training.
“I’ve thought about running or cycling — but down these country lanes you could fall and not be found for days.
“I’ll have to pass my driving test soon and then sort myself out with a car.
“That might be a treat for myself once I win this fight.”

The needle between these two former Team GB pals has grown as the pandemic has repeatedly pushed the bout back — and the media demands have forced them out of their shells.
Dubois now talks about his appetite for destruction when his rival’s name is mentioned and the clash — originally billed for April — has taken on a real edge.
Dubois said: “We have had to meet a few times now for media commitments.
“We’ve been put in a small room or situation where it has felt like people are trying to provoke me into a fight.
“Since the first bout was announced, Joe has been on my mind. I have dreamed about fighting Joe — and of course I always win.
“All the extra time has got people talking about tactics and game plans, even mind games, but I just want to land on him.
“I want him to feel my power early on and I want to finish off another fight in spectacular fashion.”

Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr: Predictions from former rivals and pundits who make fight picks as legends return to ring

ROY JONES JR goes into his fight against Mike Tyson as an underdog – according to those in the boxing business.
The American – who started his career as a light-middleweight – is also the bookies outsider.

He faces fellow legend Tyson in an eight-round exhibition on Saturday, and has been left with it all to do inside the ring.
But Jones, 51, only retired in 2018, meaning what he lacks in size and power he could make up in with activity and form.
Here SunSport runs down the predictions from fighters, promoters and trainers.
    Mike Tyson
Iron Mike did not have too much to say on the fight – only warning it will be all-action.

The 54-year-old told TMZ Sports: “Pain, baby, pain. A lot of pain.”
    Prediction: Violence

Mike Tyson fights for the first time since retiring in 2005
    Evander Holyfield
Holyfield twice beat Tyson and wants to face him for a third time after announcing he is also coming out of retirement.
He is backing his old rival to beat Jones if he lands one of his trademark shots – but fears if he fails it will be a snooze fest.

Holyfield, 58, told Teddy Atlas: “I think if Tyson catch him, he gonna hurt him. But if Tyson can’t catch him, it’s gonna be a lousy fight.”
Prediction: Tyson… if he can land.

    Danny Williams
Williams scored one of the great British upsets in a boxing ring after he knocked out an out-of-sorts Iron Mike in 2004.
But he still tips Tyson’s size and power to be too much for Jones.
Williams, 47, said: “I think Roy is going to get seriously hurt. He is a natural middleweight.”
    Prediction: Tyson

    James ‘Buster’ Douglas
Buster Douglas became the first man to beat Tyson, with his 1990 upset still considered one of the greatest shocks in boxing history.
He came into the fight a 42/1 underdog – and he gives Jones even LESS chance of repeating his victory.
Douglas, 60, told DJ Vlad: “I think he has a chance but it’s a slim chance. Slimmer than Buster Douglas.”
    Prediction: Tyson

    Amir Khan
Khan revealed both were an inspiration to him in his career, but questioned why they are coming out of retirement.
Still the former champion – who jumped from welterweight to middleweight in 2016 before being KO’d by Canelo – is backing the smaller man.
Khan, 33, told Fight Hub: “I don’t know what’s made Mike and Roy fight each other. I mean, they might be friends, I don’t know.
“But who’s going to win this fight? Roy Jones, in my opinion.”
    Prediction: Jones

Amir Khan has predicted Tyson will lose against Jones
    Freddie Roach
Legendary trainer Roach cornered Tyson towards the end of the heavyweight’s career.
They still keep in touch now, and Roach has no doubt his friend will win by knockout.
He told told Press Box: “I think Mike knocks Roy Jones out.
“But I did warn Mike that he has to be careful of Roy’s left to the body. That’s the punch Roy used to knock out Virgil Hill.”
    Prediction: Tyson

    Tyron Woodley
Former UFC welterweight champion Woodley is another who has looked up to Tyson and Jones.
As a result, he feels Iron Mike’s power over the eight rounds will prove too troubling.
Woodley, 38, told Mike Swick: “I’ve studied them so much. I’ve watched so many films, so many fights with both of them.
“I think if Mike Tyson touches anybody, they’re going down no matter how old he is. I just don’t see him not touching Roy at some point in the fight.”
    Prediction: Tyson

Ex-UFC welterweight champion on Tyson’s podcast
    Jeff Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather’s uncle – a trainer – runs his own boxing channel, often asking for predictions ahead of big fights.
But in his own verdict, he tips Tyson to just edge out Jones.
Mayweather said: “Overall, if I would have to bet my money, I would pick Tyson because I know he has the power.
“And as big as he is, he has some tremendous hand speed.”
    Prediction: Tyson

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle Jeff with Tyson
    Oscar De La Hoya
De La Hoya works with Jones’ great rival Bernard Hopkins as they run Golden Boy Promotions.
And the American – who wants to make a comeback of his own – is tipping Tyson to come out on top.
De La Hoya, 47, said on Instagram: “I’m going to have to go with Tyson.
“But it wouldn’t surprise me if Jones Jr pulls something off – like he always has in his career.”
    Prediction: Tyson

    Jake Paul
The YouTuber faces ex-NBA star Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson’s comeback.
And he predicts Iron Mike will win the night’s main-event.
Paul, 23, told the Mayweather Boxing Channel: “I think uncle Mike’s going to take it home. But Roy Jones is looking dangerous too.
“I think he’s (Tyson) is gonna stop him. Those punches look to vicious, I think round, fourth round he’s going to connect with one of those Mike Tyson’s uppercuts or hooks.”

It’s the latest chapter of the 6ft 1in brawler’s blossoming career, which gained momentum after he trained YouTuber KSI for his two exhibition bouts against Logan Paul.
His skills in the ring got him noticed by Mayweather Promotions, and he is now trained by Floyd’s dad Jeff.
Should the 4-0 prospect dispose of Coulter, he will continue on the path he started when he was a small boy.
    AMATEUR HOUR
As a six-year-old growing up in East London, Riley took advantage of his surroundings in the borough of Haringey and took up boxing in one of the many local gyms.

It was his father, Derrick, who introduced his son to the sport, and he showed his prowess as he powered through the amateur ranks.
In ten years he won numerous titles, including eight national championships, and a European Junior Silver Medal.
While in 2014, he became a 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympian for Team GB.
His amateur record was 41-8 – with 19 knockouts.

    MAYWEATHER ENDORSED
In 2018, Riley went pro after making ends meet by being a personal trainer.
He was signed to Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions, with CEO Leonard Ellerbe waxing lyrical about his new discovery’s ability.
“We’re very excited to add this young man to our roster,” Ellerbe said
“He knows he’s in great hands in terms of guiding his career in the right direction, and he has the whole UK supporting him.
“Viddal Riley is the whole package across the board and his charisma will take him far. We look forward to what his future holds & we welcome him to Mayweather Promotions’ team with pleasure.”
    Riley was equally as chuffed.
“Signing to Mayweather Promotions is the biggest mark in my career thus far,” Riley revealed.

“If you’re not aware of the name yet, it’s Viddal Riley. Expect entertainment in multiple forms and ring IQ beyond my years.”
YOU MAY HAVE SEEN HIM BEFORE
If Riley’s face looks familiar, you may have seen him under the guise of YouTube sensation KSI’s trainer.
Viddal became the internet personality’s head coach ahead of his fights against Logan Paul.
Over 40million KSI fans would’ve seen Riley push the YouTuber to the limits of his physical capabilities.

Who is Roy Jones Jr’s wife Natlyn Jones and does the boxing star have kids with her?

ROY JONES JR hasn’t fought for over two years but he returns to the ring on November 28 when he faces Mike Tyson.
The former world heavyweight champion had been called upon by Tyson’s team in the summer to take part in an exhibition bout.

And despite hanging the gloves up not too long ago, Jones Jr wants in on that ring feeling once again.
And wife Natlyn and his three kids will be there every step of the way to watch along.
Who is Natlyn Jones and how old is she?
Natlyn was born on June 3, 1975 in Pensacola, Florida, where Jones Jr grew up too.
Natlyn attended Florida State University and had aspirations of becoming a lawyer before falling head over heels for Jones Jr.

The pair met in the early 2000s, before they began dating and got married. The exact timeline of events isn’t known.
It’s thought the pair had a private ceremony, likely in Florida, where they tied the knot.
Natlyn gave up her dream of becoming a lawyer, however, to be by Jones Jr’s side throughout his career and to raise their kids.

How many kids do they have together?
Natlyn and Jones Jr have three sons together, Roy III, DeShaun and DeAndre.

She gave up her potential career as lawyer in order to help raise her three children with Jones Jr.
In 2019, Natlyn launched her own boxing gym, She Warrior, in 2019, with the aim to empower women’s sport.
Jones Jr’s wife also tried to get into boxing promoting at one point, but never pursued it seriously.

What Natlyn has said about Jones Jr
“Their daddy’s got a big heart,” Natlyn told Bleacher Report about their kids five years ago.
“On the way up? After he won the heavyweight title? I’d guess 95 percent of people reaching out wanted something from him.
“Now things have slowed down a little, but I’d still say 70 percent.
“Everyone thinks how much easier life must get when your boat comes in, but there’s a lot of other stuff you have to be ready for too. Not all of it’s that easy to deal with.
“But I guess going into marrying a professional athlete, you have to know what you’re marrying into. Not that I did.
“I just couldn’t believe how nice he was, and, you know, you fall in love.” More
