Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr belt: What is the WBC Frontline Belt both legends are fighting for?

MIKE TYSON and Roy Jones Jr already have bundles of belts in their collections – but they’ll get another crack at one more on Sunday morning.
Despite the lack of clarity on the rules of the fight – it’s clear to see how highly the WBC value both Tyson and Jones Jr.

Even though the bout is just an eight-round exhibition, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman thought it be best to crown the winner with a belt.
The announcement naturally drew criticism from fans, who are already up in arms over the amount of title belts in boxing.
What is the WBC Frontline Belt Tyson and Jones Jr are fighting for?
The WBC announced last month that they would be sanctioning the fight and creating the ‘Frontline Belt’ for Tyson and Jones Jr to battle for.
“WBC’s remote scoring system will be used to evaluate Tyson and Jones Jr.’s performance. Three champions will serve as the judges,@ a statement read.

“Each round will be scored and announced to the public. California State Athletic Commission will oversee, regulate, and sanction.”
Tyson and Jones Jr have previously won numerous WBC belts, most famously ‘Iron Mike’, who became the youngest heavyweight champ in history in 1986 when he beat Trevor Berbick in the second round.

Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 record still best EVER as little-known Thai boxer Wanheng Menayothin finally LOSES 55th fight

FLOYD MAYWEATHER would have breathed a sigh of relief when Wanheng Menayothin’s 54-fight winning streak was ended.
The Thai boxer, 35, surpassed the American’s incredible 50-0 professional record in 2018.

Wanheng Menayothin suffered the first defeat of his career when he came up against Panya PradabsriCredit: Getty – Contributor

This led to claims that Menayothin was ‘the best ever’ – which infuriated Mayweather.
The Thai star – who weights just 105lbs – announced his plans to retire at 54-0.
But he reversed that decision to face Thai rival Panya Pradabsri – and then he lost.
Judges scored the title fight 115-113, 115-113, 115-113 in favour of Pradabsri.

Now that he has a record of 54-1, Mayweather is back where he belongs at the top.
The American – who last fought when he beat Conor McGregor in 2017 – hit out at claims that Menayothin was the GOAT.
During an interview with Club Shay Shay, Mayweather fumed: “I’m 50-0 for a reason.
“Right now they got a fighter that’s over in Asia that’s 54-0 and they say, ‘This is the new TBE’, because he’s about to retire.

“I said, ‘Y’all telling me about this fighter that fought one world champion?’
“He’s 54-0 and only beat one world champion?
“This is who you’re trying to call TBE? Okay, y’all are some comedians.”
Mayweather has revealed he will be coming out of retirement for ‘sparring’ matches which will earn him ‘some heavy cash’.

Lennox Lewis names Evander Holyfield as his toughest opponent ahead of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko

LENNOX LEWIS has named Evander Holyfield as his toughest opponent, ahead of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko.
The British boxing legend, 54, took to Instagram to reveal just who he believed was his most-talented rival.

Despite fighting legendary champions Tyson and Klitschko during his long career, Lewis plumped for Holyfield as his toughest-ever opponent.
Lewis finished his career with a record of 41-2-1, with his final-ever fights coming against Tyson and Klitschko in 2002 and 2003 respectively.
The Brit ace KOd Tyson in the eighth round of a brutal bout, with his fight against Klitschko stopped after the sixth round after Lewis opened a huge cut above the Ukrainian’s eye.
Despite those monster fights, Lewis’ 1999 double-header against Holyfield went down in boxing legend.

The first fight ended in a draw, with Lewis winning the rematch eight months later via unanimous decision.
Because of those gruelling fights, Lewis has named Holyfield as his toughest-ever opponent.
Lewis revealed people are often shocked by his pick, but claimed Holyfield’s amateur experience was invaluable to his career.
On Instagram, Lewis wrote: “People seem to be genuinely surprised when I tell them Evander Holyfield was my toughest opponent, not to be confused with my toughest fight, which was Mercer.

“But when you really dive into why that is, it actually makes a lot of sense.
“Holyfield, like me, has an extensive amateur pedigree that has served him well throughout his professional career.
“He started boxing at eight years old and was an Olympic Bronze medalist in 1984.
“Before he moved up to the heavyweight division, he’s a man that cleared out the cruiserweight division to become the undisputed champion, and arguably the best ever, in that weight class.
“That’s a lot of experience and it’s safe to say that by the time we met for the undisputed heavyweight championship in 1999, he had seen it all.
“When you combine Evander’s amateur and professional experience, you would be hard pressed not to see the kind of success he’s had in the ring.
“I may tease him a bit on our two fights, he knows I won both fights even though he won’t admit it, but in all seriousness, he’s the only man that has gone 24 rounds with me.”

Lennox Lewis won the IBO, WBA and WBC heavyweight titles in his careerCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Lewis continued to state the importance of building a career out of a strong amateur base.
He added: “I can’t stress enough the importance of amateur experience.
“Consider the amateurs as your internship into the pros… the more you learn about your craft, the better it will serve you.
“Me and Evander’s extensive amateur experience brought us to the top of our games.
“In a sport where there are no guarantees, and even one mistake can end in disaster, it’s important to play the odds.
“So although we have both had setbacks in our careers, there was very little chance that the success we sought in the sport of boxing would not be reached based on our experience.”

Five opponents Mike Tyson could fight next after Roy Jones Jr fight including Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

MIKE TYSON steps back inside the ring for the first time in 15 years this weekend when he faces Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout.
The 54-year-old pits his wits against his American compatriot at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Mike Tyson has stated he would be willing to fight Tyson Fury for charity

And Tyson’s trainer Rafael Cordeiro has already stated that the Baddest Man on the Planet will continue to showcase his talents in 2021.
He said: “He is very happy to do three more fights next year and suddenly fight for great things.”
Tyson himself recently confirmed he is willing to face Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua for charity.
Iron Mike told BT Sport: “I think they’re brilliant. They’re brilliant fighters. They could do so much for society.

“They could have exhibitions and take the money from the exhibitions, because they’re such big crowd pleasers and they could help so many people.
“There’s so many people out there that we can do so much for, and it wouldn’t even be a 10th of their charitable heart to do something like that.
“In fact, fight exhibitions with me, and most of our charity would go to people who desperately need it.”
With that in mind, SunSport looks at five possible opponents for Tyson after his clash with Jones Jr.

Mike Tyson’s incredible bodyweight workout routine
    TYSON FURY
The Gypsy King revealed he received an offer from ESPN to fight his namesake in an exhibition encounter.
And the WBC heavyweight champion stated that it would be an ‘honour’ to share the ring with Kid Dynamite.
Asked by Behind the Gloves about whether he would consider a bout against Tyson, Fury said: “Yeah of course.
“I’m named after the guy, I think it’ll be ironic, I think it’ll be legendary, Tyson vs Tyson, the old vs the new and it’ll be absolutely amazing.
“We can’t change time, we can’t turn the clock back, but we can deal with what we have today, I would love to share the ring with Mike Tyson, it’ll be an absolute honour in an exhibition fight, have a move around. It’ll be amazing.”

    DEONTAY WILDER
The Bronze Bomber revealed earlier this year that he would knock out prime Tyson due to his ‘killer instinct’.
To which Tyson said: “I just heard Deontay Wilder said he would destroy a young Mike Tyson.
“My thoughts are that it’s easy to talk until you actually get in the ring.
“I like Wilder, but he’s never been in there with someone that ferocious [and] who truly wants to break his ribs with every punch. I don’t see it!”
And Tyson recently called the 2008 bronze medallist out for making excuses as to why he lost against Fury in February.

    ANTHONY JOSHUA
Speaking in September, Tyson spoke of his desire to face the WBA, WBO and IBF champ despite their 24-year age gap.
He told TMZ Sports: “Listen, I’m very interested. If doing that means we can have a bigger charity exponent, well so be it, I’m down to do that, too.
“I would love to [fight Joshua]. That would be mind-blowing.”
However the chances of that fight is slim, as AJ told SunSport: “With all due respect I wouldn’t.
“Even if I fought Iron Mike and beat him, I think I’d be the only one cheering.
“People would boo. He is a legend. He is the greatest boxer of the modern era.
“There are only two recognised champions the world knows of, Ali and Mike Tyson — the most recognised faces in the world when it comes to boxing.”

    EVANDER HOLYFIELD
Holyfield twice beat Tyson in the 1990s, but he has teased a trilogy bout against his rival in the future.
Taking to Instagram earlier this month, he posted a picture of him punching Tyson.
Captioning the image, he asked his followers: “Who would like to see Holyfield vs Tyson 3?
“Or who else would you like to see me get in the ring with in an exhibition?”

    OLIVER McCALL
The 55-year-old former WBC champ last fought in May 2019, so it can be presumed he is still in good shape.
And in an interview with iFL TV in May, he called out Tyson.
He said: “I don’t think Tyson wants to get in there with me, I can tell you that now!
“Mike Tyson, now you talking about wanting to come back, but I don’t think you want Oliver McCall.”

What is Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr host Mario Lopez’s net worth, and when is Saved By The Bell returning?

WHILE most eyes will be on Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr’s mega-fight this weekend, host of the event Mario Lopez will also have his fair share of fans tuning in to watch.
Tyson and Jones Jr agreed to an eight-round exhibition contest earlier this year that was originally scheduled to take place in September.

The fight was put back to November 28, with broadcasters of the event Triller announcing that Lopez will be host for the star-studded night.
The 47-year-old has been working in Hollywood for his whole career and now has another high-profile job to add to his CV.
    Who is Mario Lopez?
Mario Lopez began his career as a child actor in the 1980s but his big break came when he picked up a job with popular TV show Saved By The Bell in 1989.
Lopez played A.C. Slater for five years and instantly became a hit with fans.

Since then, Lopez has starred in various films and TV shows, while he even partook on Dancing with the Stars in the U.S.

He was also host of the X Factor USA with Khloe Kardashian in 2012 and has done plenty of work as an entertainment host for Extra.
Lopez’s boxing knowledge is pretty strong too as he co-hosts a podcast called The 3-Knockdown Rule with boxing journalist Steve Kim.
What is Mario Lopez’s net worth?
Mario Lopez has amassed a total net worth of £18.8million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

They also state that Lopez’s salary for working with Extra is £4.5m.
It’s unknown just how much Lopez will be paid by Triller to host the event, but it should be handsomely.

Triller reportedly paid £37.5m for the streaming rights for Tyson vs Jones Jr, so they clearly aren’t short of cash.
When is Saved By The Bell returning?
Saved By The Bell was renewed for another season in 2019, a direct sequel to the series which Lopez finished starring in at the end of 1993.
The 10-episode season premiered on U.S. streaming service Peacock on November 25.

Five opponents Mike Tyson can fight NEXT after Roy Jones Jr in Legends Only League

MIKE TYSON may decide to continue fighting following his clash with Roy Jones Jr this weekend.
Tyson shocked fans in the summer by announcing that he was coming back to have an exhibition bout with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr.

‘Iron’ Mike looks to have taken things incredibly seriously as he’s in tip-top shape ahead of the bout.
So assuming Tyson feels like he can continue to compete after his fight with Jones Jr, who can the former world heavyweight champion take on?
SunSport have picked five potential opponents who can face Tyson in his Legends Only League.
    Shannon Briggs
Former heavyweight world champion Shannon Briggs hasn’t fought since 2016 but has consistently teased at a potential comeback.

At 48 years old, he’s not too much younger than the 54-year-old Tyson and they both look in fantastic shape.

Briggs announced earlier this year that he’s going into bare knuckle boxingCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Briggs has even said he’s entertaining a foray into MMA and earlier this year signed a deal that will see him compete in Bare Knuckle Boxing.
It was even reported earlier this year in May that Tyson and Briggs were in talks to fight each other and now that both are back competing – it could be a clash that makes sense for both.
    Evander Holyfield
Old Tyson foe Evander Holyfield announced earlier this year that he was making a comeback himself, having retired from the sport in 2011 after beating Brian Nielsen.

There’s already some needle there between Tyson and Holyfield as they fought twice during their illustrious careers.

Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear in their world title rematch Credit: AFP – Getty
The first fight went the way of Holyfield, who knocked Tyson out in the 11th round of the bout, before chaos ensured during their second fight together.
Tyson was disqualified in the third round of their rematch for biting off a piece of Holyfield’s ear – one of the most controversial moments in boxing history.
    Lennox Lewis
Now this one seems a reach – and that’s because it is. But Tyson would gladly take the Lennox Lewis rematch if it was offered to him.
Lewis, however, has stated on multiple occasions that he has no plans to get himself off the sofa and back into a ring.

Lewis stopped Tyson in the eighth round of their fight in 2002Credit: AFP – Getty
The British ring legend hasn’t fought since a stoppage win over Vitali Klitschko in 2003, a fight which showed Lewis was coming to the end of his storied career.
He beat Tyson via eighth-round stoppage before the Klitschko fight, thus ending their bitter rivalry. Or was it the end?
    Danny Williams
Brit Danny Williams is another fighter who knocked out Tyson as the 54-year-old was coming toward the end of his career in the early 2000s.
Williams stopped Tyson in the fourth round of their fight in Louisville, Kentucky 16 years ago.

Danny Williams picked up the shock KO over Tyson in 2004Credit: PA:Press Association
Since then, Williams has been fighting all over the world, taking on all challengers in a bid to keep competing way beyond his best years for as much money as possible.
Williams was knocked out by Sergei Kharitonov in September and retired thereafter, but it would be hard to rule out a comeback if Tyson approached the 47-year-old with a lucrative offer for a rematch.
    Logan Paul
Money-wise, this could and would make the most sense for Tyson, who would have no problem dispatching Logan Paul in YouTube boxing crossover match-up.
Paul competed at cruiserweight for his last fight with fellow YouTuber KSI, just one weight below boxing’s blue-riband division.

Logan Paul hasn’t fought since his loss to KSI last NovemberCredit: Getty – Contributor
He’s also been linked with fighting Floyd Mayweather in a boxing exhibition. So maybe Paul could pick on someone closer to his own size and call out Tyson?
That bout would no doubt be a box-office success, and Paul’s brother Jake is fighting on the undercard of Tyson’s clash with Jones Jr on Saturday, meaning a relationship is already there to capitalise on. More

Mike Tyson eats Roy Jones Jr’s EAR made of cake and jokes ‘it tastes better than Holyfied’s’

MIKE TYSON has tucked into Roy Jones Jr’s ear – and joked it tasted nicer than Evander Holyfield’s.
Iron Mike provided another piece of evidence that old habits die hard as he celebrated Thanksgiving prior to his comeback fight this Saturday.

Mike Tyson has shared a clip of him tucking into Roy Jones Jr’s ear

Fortunately it was only from a cake he had made off his upcoming opponent’s head

Fortunately, instead of tucking into his opponent’s flesh with his teeth, the Baddest Man on the Planet savoured a chunk of his foe’s earlobe in cake fashion this time.
The stunt comes 23 years after he caused worldwide controversy when he was disqualified for biting part of Evander Holyfield’s ear off in their grudge rematch for the heavyweight title.
Tyson, 54, is pulling on the gloves to battle fellow legend Jones Jr in a highly-anticipated exhibition bout that is already surpassing huge pay-per-view buys.
He decided to up the ante ahead of his comeback by sharing a snap of his pet pooch tucking into a cake designed in the face of his opponent.

Now he has followed that up by referencing the infamous moment with Holyfield in a new video titled ‘Thanksgiving with the Tyson’s’ which the veteran carves up a cake of Jones Jr for his kids.
Presenting the cake to his children, Tyson says it is a ‘turkey’ before declaring: “I like ears.
“Tastes so much better than Evander’s, Roy tastes real good.”
Speaking previously to Fox News about the Holyfield incident, he admitted his rage made him want ‘to kill’ the Real Deal.

Tyson said: “I bit him because I wanted to kill him.
“I was really mad about my head being bumped and everything.
“I really lost consciousness of the whole fight. It took me out of my fight plan and everything.”
Whether or not we see anything as vicious tomorrow when the two ex world champs, with a combined age of 105, go one-on-one in LA.
