      Is Mike Tyson’s historic fight with Roy Jones Jnr the most sensational and controversial comeback in boxing history?

      WITH raw punching power that sent dazed opponents crumbling to the canvas, the self-declared “baddest man on the planet” was the youngest heavyweight champion of the world.
      Now 14 years since hanging up his gloves, Mike Tyson, 54, is stepping back into the ring — but is not allowed to knock his challenger out.

      Tonight, Tyson will make what is the most sensational and controversial comeback in boxing history.
      In what is supposed to be an “exhibition match” rather than a competitive bout, Iron Mike will trade blows with Roy Jones Jr.
      Jones, 51, has been a world champion in four weight classes from middle to heavyweight and only quit the ring two years ago.
      But due to their ages, the authorities in the US insist the fight can only go ahead with restrictions.

      Both men will have to wear bigger gloves to cushion the impact of punches and there will be a maximum of eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, rather than the normal three.
      But no one thinks that the now softly-spoken Tyson will play nicely once the bell rings.
      Frank Bruno, who felt the full ferocity of Iron Mike’s blows in a title fight in 1989 and then again in 1996, tells The Sun: “I have never heard of an exhibition fight.
      “The way Mike Tyson’s body is and mind is set, if someone tries to hit him, he will hit you harder.

      “He has a hard punch and he has venom, he was nasty.”
      Frank, who lost to Tyson both times, jokes the only person who hit him as hard as Tyson “was the taxman”.
      ‘IT MAKES MOCKERY OF THE SPORT’
      Tyson is certainly talking about the rumble like a real boxer should.
      In the run-up to the bout at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, there was all the usual trash talk about hurting his opponent.

      He said: “Listen, I don’t know what you’re talking about that it’s not a real fight. It’s Mike Tyson and Roy Jones and I’m coming to fight and I hope he’s coming to fight. 
      “That’s all you need to know.”
      Tyson insisted his intention was to “disable my opponent” and that the bout would be “brutal”.
      He has been training hard to get close to the shape of his peak when he first won the world title in 1986 at the age of 20.

      In the other corner Jones claimed: “I love boxing. So if I die in boxing, I die a happy man.”
      Both men have a lot on the line in the fight. If they do not go at each other hard, they face ridicule from disappointed fans. But any injury could lead to permanent damage.
      The Sun’s legendary boxing correspondent Colin Hart says: “I am dead against this fight. To me it makes a mockery of the sport.
      “It is also highly dangerous, two men of 50-odd years of age to be throwing punches at each other.

      “Particularly Tyson, who even at 54 years of age, can still punch hard. It would never have been sanctioned by the British Board of Control.”
      So why would the white-bearded Tyson, who by all accounts has calmed down in recent years, want to fight again?
      Frank Bruno, 59, says: “Maybe he wants to get some more money, or it could be an ego thing.” Tyson says proceeds from the fight — on BT Sport Box Office and covered live on radio by talkSPORT and talkRADIO — will be going to charity. That is generous for a man who blew his £300million fortune to end up bankrupt in 2003.
      The publicity from his comeback is sure to swell the coffers of his numerous business interests though.

      On his Instagram page Tyson has been advertising his own line of T-shirts to his 13.5million followers.
      He is also promoting the idea of the Mike Tyson Legends Only League, where the “greatest athletes” will compete. This fight is intended to be a springboard for veterans from all kinds of sports to make a comeback.
      Alongside those interests, Tyson grows and sells his own brand of legal cannabis, has an animated TV show called Mike Tyson Mysteries and has appeared in films.
      Business acumen, however, has not always been his strength.

      He used to pay a trainer £80,000 a year to look after his two Bengal tigers, splashed out £1.75million on a solid gold bathtub for his first wife, actress Robin Givens, and spent £635,000 on a watch.
      Money aside, it is also possible that Tyson has a point to prove tonight.
      When he was beaten by no-hoper Buster Douglas in 1990 — his first ever loss — it was one of the biggest upsets in sporting history. And he never really recovered.
      In 1992 he was jailed for raping 18-year-old Desiree Washington in a hotel room in July 1991.

      After his release in 1995 he returned to the ring, beating Bruno in 1996 but losing twice to Evander Holyfield and once to Brit champion Lennox Lewis.
      Sun expert Colin, who interviewed Tyson many times, believes the unpredictable fighter has calmed down over the past few years.

      ‘I’VE LIVED A WILD AND STRANGE LIFE’
      He says: “At long last he seems to have mellowed with age. I think he is far more stable now than he’s ever been in life.
      “In the olds days you could go to him in the morning and he’d be charming, he was one of the most articulate fighters I have met in my life. Then you’d go see him that afternoon and he’d want to kill you.”

      Tyson has admitted to allowing his life to spiral dangerously out of control. He once commented: “I’ve lived a wild and a strange life. 
      “I’ve used drugs, I’ve had physical altercations with dangerous people.
      “I’ve slept with guys’ wives and they wanted to kill me. I’m just happy to be here. It’s a miracle.’”
      Much of the credit for Tyson’s change of fortunes has to go third wife Lakiha Spicer, who he married in 2009.

      Both she and Tyson know what it is like to hit rock bottom.
      Lakiha, 43, was sent to prison in 2008 for defrauding a company owned by her father out of £60,000.
      She was pregnant with their first daughter, Milan, at the time. 
      Tyson turned to drugs while she served six months in jail, but on her release she helped him quit.

      Tyson confessed: “I’m very happy me and my wife got together because I don’t know how I would have survived out there.”
      In the past, Tyson’s form for maintaining a relationship has not been good. 
      His first marriage to Robin, 55, lasted a year from 1988 to 1989. His second to Monica Turner lasted from 1997 to 2003.
      And he has fathered seven children from several partners.

      Tragically, his four-year-old daughter, Exodus, died in 2009 in a tragic treadmill accident.
      Despite all his setbacks, Tyson is a man who does not stay down.
      And as far as Bruno is concerned, there is nothing wrong with fighters lacing up their gloves again in their fifties.

      After all, Bernard Hopkins became the oldest world champion at 48 when he won the IBF light heavyweight crown in 2013. And Bruno, who retired after suffering a severe eye injury during his second bout with Tyson, does not rule out a return himself.
      He says: “I’m a boxer and I always will be a boxer, but I’m happy with how my life is going.
      “Age is just a number. It’s how you feel. It’s what’s in your heart, in your spirit. I turn 60 next year but I feel 25.”

      Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr weigh-in LIVE: Tyson says he will ‘come running’ at Jones Jr as pair hit the scales for scrap

      MIKE TYSON and Roy Jones Jr are ready to go to war with the big heavyweight fight just a day away..
      But before that first bell goes though the veteran pair have to face-off at the weigh-in, along with undercard stars Badou Jack and Jake Paul.

      BIT OF A QUIET ONE THAT
      Well, not much to report from the weigh-ins there from the US.
      Tyson and Jones Jr were separated by a screen. There wasn’t any trash-talking.
      Jones Jr insisted he wasn’t ‘making a mistake’, while Tyson said the outcome of the fight would be down to Jones Jr.
      Which in itself was strange.
      He did confirm what many of us already thought – that he would ‘come running’ at Jones Jr.

      NOW TYSON SPEAKS
      “I’m pitching punches, everything else is up to Roy.
      “If I am running anywhere, I am running right at him.”

      JONES SPEAKS FIRST
      “It’s going to turn out right trust me.”

      Probably a good job. Tyson was the first to turn away.

      The 54-year-old was the youngest ever heavyweight champ.
      He is on the scales at 220.4lbs.

      Trash talking ensures, mostly by Paul.
      He calls Robinson a b***h, with the former basketball star replies ‘see you tomorrow’.
      They were separated by a screen.

      JAKE PAUL vs NATE ROBINSON NEXT!
      Robinson hits the scales at 181lbs, that’s the former basketball star ahead of his pro bxing debut.
      Jake Paul, wearing a strange heairpiece and a mask, weighs in at 189.
      He had to take the heairpiece off to make weight seemingly!

      WEIGH IN IS NOW!
      On the scales comes Badou Jack and Blake McKernan.
      McKernon is undefeated and is adamant that will continue and he will move to 14-0.
      McKernan hits the scales at 186.8lbs.
      Jack weighs in at 188.9lbs.
      The announcer says that it is ‘one of the most anticipated bouts on the cards’ and that the pair ‘have something to prove.
      McKernand goes face-to-face showing the American flag in the face of Swede Jack.

      MIXED BAG ON THE UNDERCARD
      So two legends are topping the bill as we know.
      Hasim Rahman Jr is also there, he is of course the son of the boxer who beat Lennox Lewis.
      Badou Jack also fights, so they are both decent level boxers.
      Then…… there is Jake Paul fighting a basketball star.
      Erm…

      TYSON’S TURNAROUND
      Mike Tyson admitted excesses out of the ring imapcted his health after retiring.
      So he did something about it – and underwent a stunning body transformation.
      Jones Jr is not long retired and still has some decent tools in his locker – but he will clearly lack the power that his fearsome opponent has.

      TYSON WANTS EARLY KO
      Iron Mike adamant that he will go out and ‘get on top’ of Roy Jones Jr from the off.
      He will come flying out, the question will be how long he can keep it going for.
      Haye says: “Roy Jones has to use his speed, one thing he has always had is exceptional speed.
      “He can get out of range, come in range let shots go and get out of range.
      “If he tries to mix it with Tyson, they say the last thing you lose is your power. Jones has to be cautious.”

      JOE JOYCE is determined to punish Daniel Dubois for the sick slur he aimed at his blind mum.
      When the battle for Dubois’ British and Commonwealth titles was announced in February the press conference ended in a shock scuffle.

      Olympic 2016 silver winner Joyce had mother Marvel in the audience and she accused Dubois, 23, of bottling a bout from his brief amateur career.
      Dynamite Dan chirped back: “I’m gonna do you a favour, because you can’t see your son after he’s been knocked out, you will be spared the heartache.”
      And Joyce, 35, has not forgotten the attack.
      He said: “It is disrespectful. Firstly to my mum and then also to the disability.

      “It’s not really cool and has added a little to my motivation.”
      Joyce’s camp was rocked after trainer Ismael Salas failed his Tuesday Covid-19 test and was booted out of the hotel and his corner.
      Assistant trainers Steve Broughton and Jimmy Tibbs will guide him at the iconic Church House in Westminster.
      But the empty venue will help Marvel add her input.

      Joyce said: “I don’t think my mum has decided whether she will come yet.
      “I love her very much but it might be less stressful without her there.
      “She is very supportive and helpful and wants to be involved, she can sometimes be a bit pushy as well and there will be no crowd to drown her out.”
      Joyce has 13 years on his rival and reckons it will tell after seeing Dubois at the presser and weigh-in.
      He said: “He did seem a bit nervous. When we sat together, it was almost like he was on the naughty seat.”

      Dubois vs Joyce: UK start time, live stream FREE, TV channel, undercard info for the heavyweight fight

      DANIEL DUBOIS takes on Joe Joyce in a bout that most are tipping to be one of the heavyweight fights of the year.
      ‘Dynamite’ Dubois was supposed to face Joyce back on April 11, before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to those spring plans.

      Dubois and Joyce have been scheduled to fight on two previous occasions

      The fight was re-scheduled for July, with the hope that fans would be able to attend the clash, but three months later spectators still aren’t being allowed to watch events live.
      So both Dubois and Joyce were happy to take purse cuts and have agreed to fight in a battle of the undefeated prospects.

      But has kept fighting fit by boxing off any signs of a dad-bod thanks to Tyson’s age-defying regime.

      He explained: “I have metal pins in my foot so running is too painful now and that was always a massive part of life.

      “Throughout my career I have gone running with boxing legends like Nigel Benn and Frank Bruno, while photographing them in camp and I never wanted to stop.
      “But boxing is a totally different form of fitness, I might only need to do a few rounds of shadow boxing or pads to feel just as exhausted as I would have done after an hour-long run.
      “I loved Tyson, he was brilliant to photograph, terrifying but also really vulnerable at times.
      “I watched how this comeback gathered pace on social media and how the weight he had put on melted away and was so impressed.

      “I’ll be fascinated watching the fight, if Tyson just has 10 per cent of his old power and peekaboo style then we could see something special.”

      BT Sport sorted Pelham out with an exclusive workout plan and a Zoom chat with Ben Davison, the brilliant young English trainer who guided Tyson Fury back from obesity to his iconic Deontay Wilder draw.
      And he fancies Tyson to enjoy a stellar swansong, if he has been as dedicated as his 6ft 9in former fighter.
      The BT Sport pundit said: “Mike Tyson will be as good as his dedication has allowed him to train,” .
      “The misconception when I was training Fury for his comeback was that I had to keep motivating him or stopping him from doing or eating things he wasn’t supposed to do.
      “But he was completely self-motivated, Fury wanted to do everything for himself so he was very easy to train.
      “Even when Fury was 28st he was doing boxing training and sparring and if Mike has done the same then, now he is at his ideal fighting weight, it will feel a lot easier, like it did for Fury.”

      “I hope they go out, have fun, take turns in having success and play a bit of a game together but that’s never going to happen, they are going to have a real fight.
      “These fellas got to where they got because of that spirit in the, where they are prepared to leave everything in the ring.
      “To be willing to die in the ring, give it there all, leave it all in the ring, is built in them, it is part of their DNA.”

      Frank Warren reveals plans for fans at Anthony Yarde fight with free tickets for key workers and Chelsea Pensioners

      BOXING promoter Frank Warren says NHS workers and retired soldiers will fill the seats for Anthony Yarde’s Commonwealth title fight against Lyndon Arthur.
      The two Brits will clash on December 5 at Church House in Westminster, London.

      With limited crowds allowed back for live sport in the capital, there will finally be people at the venue to roar the boxers on.
      But Warren has decided NOT to cash in on the event, and will offer tickets free of charge to pillars of the community.
      The 68-year-old explained to iFL TV: “We are going to have fans there, but we’re not going to sell tickets.
      “What we’re going to do is give the tickets to the care workers, the ones that worked hard, the care workers.

      “I’m also inviting the Chelsea Pensioners that weren’t able to go and celebrate Armistice Day earlier this month. So that’s going to be our limited audience.
      “Nothing is for sale, but the public is going to be there as guests of ours. It’s thanks for all they’ve done.
      “We think it’s going to be 1000 or whatever it is. I’m not sure what the numbers are going to be. We’re going to find out tomorrow.”
      Yarde suffered a heartbreaking Covid-19 lockdown — but has burst back on to the scene and is set for the second part of his hat-trick of domestic clashes.

      The California State Commission say the exhibition will be fought under the rules that both men will not look for the knock-out and will instead “exhibit” their skills, but both fighters have come out and said the contrary.
      When is Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr?
      The big fight is set for THIS  Weekend – Saturday, November 28 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
      It was originally set to take place on September 12 but the event has been postponed until later in the year.
      The undercard is expected to start at 9pm ET which is 1am GMT and the main event will follow between 4am and 5am GMT.
      The legends are set to eight rounds in the ring, with Youtube star Jake Paul and NBA star Nate Robinson confirmed for the undercard.

      What TV channel is Tyson vs Jones Jr on and can I live stream it? 
      BT Sport Box Office will be broadcasting the fight in the UK.
      The event will cost £19.95 to watch.
      Coverage begins at 8pm ET, which is midnight in UK. The undercard is set to start from 1am GMT.
      The social media site Triller will also be airing the PPV fight.
      Emmy-winner Mario Lopez hosts the show, and musical acts will be announced for performances too.

      What are the rules of the fight?
      The fight will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds.
      No headguards will be worn but the fighters will be wearing larger 12-ounce gloves.
      Technically the fight can only be stopped if there is a knock-out, but California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Forster said he will stop it if a cut appears.
      Referee Ray Corona will be able to halt it if he chooses to.
      The WBC will be remotely scoring the fight with the winner crowned WBC Frontline champion.
      Forster said: “Tyson and Jones Jr. won’t be wearing headgear for the fight. They’ll be lacing up 12-ounce gloves and there won’t be any judges present at the fight to score the action. So, technically, there won’t be a winner unless a knockout somehow occurs, or either fighter is deemed unfit to continue.

      “They can move around and make some money, but I told them if you get cut, it’s over.”
