Roy Jones Jr claims Mike Tyson can still fight ‘anybody’ after 54-year-old revealed he was open to Joshua or Fury bout

MIKE TYSON still has the ability ‘to fight anybody’ – including Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury.
The 54-year-old returned to the ring and fought out an entertaining eight-round exhibition bout against fellow icon Roy Jones Jr on Saturday.

And Jones Jr claims ‘Iron Mike’ can still mix with the best after admitting his body is still feeling the effects of their showdown, which ended in a draw.
He said: “I’m happy to scratch it off the bucket list and move on with my life.
“He hit harder, his hands hurt, his head hurts [my hands], everything hurt that makes contact.
“He’s capable of fighting anybody. If he catches you, you’re going to have problems.

“I was feeling everything. He’s an exceptional puncher, still.
“All it takes is one punch from either one of us for something to happen.
“He can do anything he wants to do.”
Weed-smoking Tyson, who claims a toad venom drug told him to make his boxing return, had previously admitted he would love a crack at the current heavyweight kings.

The latest Ring Magazine P4P rankings

But he wants to test himself against Joshua and Fury only in the name of charity.
He told BT Sport: “I think they’re brilliant. They’re brilliant fighters. They could do so much for society.
“They could have exhibitions and take the money from the exhibitions, because they’re such big crowd pleasers and they could help so many people.
“There’s so many people out there that we can do so much for, and it wouldn’t even be a 10th of their charitable heart to do something like that.
“In fact, fight exhibitions with me, and most of our charity would go to people who desperately need it.
“I want you to label them as exhibitions because there are no hard feelings.”

How a cancelled flight and fluke meeting at NBA game paved way for richest fight ever between Mayweather and Pacquiao

AFTER five years of long drawn out negotiations – Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally sealed a deal to fight.
And with over £600million generated, it proved to be the biggest bout in boxing history.

But without a cancelled flight and one fluke meeting at an NBA game in 2015, it may not have all been possible.
In a HBO documentary, those closest to the events uncovered the bizarre details of how the sport’s biggest stars finally come together.
    Here SunSport tells the story.
    The beginning
In 2010, Mayweather and Pacquiao were the hottest commodities around and seemed on a collision course to meet in a mega-fight.

And as talks were underway between the two camps – right away the cracks began to appear.
Mayweather insisted on random blood and urine testing to be administered by United States Anti-Doping Association throughout their training camps.
And he wanted the testing conducted up until the night of the fight – something Pacquiao strongly opposed.
His trainer Freddie Roach explained: “Manny was scared they’d take blood the day before the fight.

“The thing is, if Manny gave blood before a fight earlier in his career with me, he would be no good for me for at least three days.”
It proved a sticking point, and when no compromise was met, the two welterweight champions moved on.

    Trying again
In 2012, again discussions took place between the fighters, this time led by broadcasters HBO.
And despite PacMan conceding to the testing demands, Mayweather felt he was the superior attraction and would not settle for a 50/50 split.
He instead would only offer his rival a flat £30m fee, rather than splitting the revenue.
Pacquiao’s advisor Michael Koncz blasted: “We’ve always conceded talking to Floyd that, OK we’ll let him have the lions share.
“But you can’t give us crumbs either.”
So, again, an agreement fell by the wayside, with the fans now believing they were the real losers.

    One more shot
By 2013, Pacquiao had suffered a crushing defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez, while Mayweather signed a record breaking £150m deal with network Showtime.
But after PacMan revived his career with three straight wins, whispers of a Mayweather fight again hit the headlines.
Rival networks Showtime and HBO were in talks to somehow broker a deal to stage a joint pay-per-view.
But it was a set of coincidental events that finally put Mayweather and Pacquiao face-to-face and a step closer to an agreement.

    What are the chances?
In January 2015, PacMan was meant to fly back to the Philippines after judging the Miss Universe competition in Miami.
But after the flight was cancelled, he stayed an extra day in town and went to the American Airlines Arena to watch Miami Heat play.
As luck would have it, Mayweather was also courtside.
The pair then met on the court at half-time, as the attention soon turned to the boxing superstars opposed to the score in the match
They exchanged numbers on the spot, and agreed to meet in Pacquiao’s hotel room afterwards.

Attention at the game soon turned to Pacquiao and Mayweather
Koncz said: “All the press were going to run that was over here and it was going to go worldwide… that was promoting the fight before the fight was even made.”
Mayweather then visited Pacquiao’s suite where the two admitted enough was enough – and put in place a verbal agreement.
The American later leaked a video online, where it showed him pleading with PacMan to give the fans the fight they all wanted.
What followed was three long weeks as Mayweather took his time on putting pen to paper.

Mayweather leaked a video of his negotiations with Pacquiao
    At last
Finally, in the April Mayweather confirmed on social media that he had signed his side of the contract to fight Pacquiao.
And it was that unimaginable series of circumstances that put the pair in front of each other, where they brought the talking to an end.
Long-time HBO commentator Jim Lampley said: “Who knows whether that was ultimately the critical piece of magic or whether it’s just another step along the way.
“But it happened. The universe wanted this fight to take place.”
Mayweather went on to win by decision in a tactical affair that failed to deliver in excitement.

But the PPV king remained unbeaten and put on a masterclass in counter punching and defence to finally go clear of his great rival.
With the 43-year-old now in retirement there have been talks of a rematch.
But Mayweather appears uninterested in affording Pacquiao, 41, another chance.
Instead, PacMan still regins as welterweight champion and continues to be called out by the best in the business, proving his stardom is as great as ever.

Lennox Lewis wants boxing comeback aged 55 as he has ‘unfinished business’ with old heavyweight rival Riddick Bowe

LENNOX LEWIS admitted he could stage a sensational boxing comeback as he has ‘unfinished business’ with his old heavyweight rival Riddick Bowe.
After Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr – with a combined age of 105 – drew in an eight-round exhibition on Saturday night, former world champ Lewis hinted he could be next to return to the ring.

Lewis said there was ‘unfinished business’ with Olympic foe Riddick BoweCredit: AP:Associated Press

The British-born star, 55, told BT Sport: “Sure! I mean, it seems like a lot of fun.
“You have to look at Mike Tyson; Mike has been doing a lot of different things like wrestling, he’s been doing acting and he even had his own one-man band show.
“So he knows how to entertain people, he knows what to do in these situations.”
Lewis KO’d Iron Mike in Memphis in 2002 and retired soon after his TKO win over Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko the following year.

The Lion battered American Bowe, 53, in the 1988 Olympic final and won gold for Canada – where he moved aged 12 – in Seoul.
But the duo never got it on in the professional arena despite Lewis becoming the WBC’s mandatory challenger while Bowe was undisputed heavyweight champ in 1992.
Bowe famously dumped the belt into the bin at press conference as he refused to be intimidated by the governing body to fight Lewis and the match-up was one that got away in the 90s.

Lewis added: “When I was commentating for HBO, they had me put in there right in the action.

“It was maybe to make me feel like I could come back for HBO whatever. But I just never caught it, it never happened.
“I looked at the history of why boxers come back and most boxers come back because they have nothing else to do.
“People keep coming up to them and saying to them, ‘Hey, when is your next fight? Who are you going to fight?’
“But it doesn’t do better for them, it makes them look bad. So I always elected to stay away from that.
“But, if it is right, I may come back. There’s been talk of Riddick Bowe wants to fight me still so there is still some unfinished business there.”

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua given green light by WBC despite Wilder row as chief says ‘there is no mandatory contender’

TYSON FURY’s fight against Anthony Joshua has been given the green light by WBC chief Mauricio Sulaiman after he revealed: “There is no mandatory contender.”
The British stars are finally set to do battle in 2021 in their bid to become undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Joshua must first defend his WBA, IBF and WBO belts against Kubrat Pulev on December 12.
And WBC champion Fury recently entered a mediation process over his disputed third and final fight against Deontay Wilder, with the Bronze Bomber trying to force the Gypsy King to fight.
But the WBC ‘will absolutely support’ the all-British showdown, confirming there is ‘no mandatory challenger’.
WBC president Sulaiman told Sky Sports: “There’s absolutely great hope from the world to see that undisputed fight.

“Tyson Fury is our champion, our pride…
“Anthony Joshua holds the other belts and he has been a tremendous asset to the sport. A gentleman, a great career.
“To see this showdown, Fury-Joshua, would be tremendous for everyone in the sport of boxing.
    “We will absolutely support it.”

Sulaiman continued: “The WBC has no blocks right now. There is no mandatory contender.
“There is an issue that we are aware that Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder have some sort of mediation process going on.
“That’s the only thing, but we don’t have any details.
“We’re just hoping that everything gets resolved and everybody is happy and we see great fights inside the ring.”
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn last month revealed where and when he believed the 2021 double-header would go ahead.
Hearn claimed: “You break them up into probably May, June, and then [rematch in] November, December.
“April, May, June, and then November, December.
“I think it’s about where and of course they’re two British heavyweight world champions, and if one of those fights at least didn’t take place in the UK it would be a shame.
“I know ultimately people think it’s my decision but it’s really not.
“We will take all the offers that will come from all around the world and present them to both teams and both fighters.
“Ultimately, normally, the biggest offer wins.”

Errol Spence Jr vs Danny Garcia tale of the tape: How boxers compare ahead of huge welterweight title fight

ERROL SPENCE JR will defend his unified welterweight titles against ex-champion Danny Garcia.
And he does so in his first fight since avoiding death in a life-threatening car crash in October 2019.

How Errol Spence Jr and Danny Garcia match up

Spence puts his WBC and IBF belts on the line against Garcia, the man who knocked out Britain’s Amir Khan in 2012.
Here SunSport breaks down the two fighters and how they compare ahead of their bout.
    Errol Spence Jr
The Texan has proved to be the most dominant force in the welterweight division since he beat Kell Brook into submission in 2017.
That night he won the IBF belt, and defended it three times before unifying it with the WBC title last year.

To do so, Spence outpointed Shawn Porter in a Fight of The Year contender, to secure the biggest win of his 26-fight career.
But a month later, the 30-year-old was lucky to somehow come out unscathed after shocking footage revealed the unbeaten boxer flipping his Ferrari.
Spence admitted he is now enjoying a second chance in life and vowed to focus only on boxing after being hit with a (DWI) Driving While Intoxicated.
The southpaw is one of the best body punchers, a tactic which helps slow down his opponents.

And with 21 knockouts he is a proven puncher, with his heavy-hands breaking down fighters.
He is a pressure fighter, with educated footwork to close down his man, but can also mix it up on the inside just as well.

    Danny Garcia
Two-weight champ Garcia threatens to be the forgotten man of the 147lb division.
He reigned as unified king at light-welterweight, beating the likes of Khan, Erik Morales, Zab Judah and Lucas Matthysse.
The Philadelphia star then moved up to welterweight and within two years won the WBC strap by beating Robert Guerrero.
But in 2017 he suffered defeat for the first time, losing to Keith Thurman by split-decision.
And when he attempted to reclaim the title against Porter, again he lost out on the cards.
The 32-year-old has won twice since, but finds himself on the brink of irrelevancy if he cannot dethrone Spence.
At the moment, Garcia is still one of the big stars in the division, gifted with a magnificent left hook.
His right hand is also a damaging shot, which has helped him to 21 KOs in his 36 wins.

    Fight breakdown
With Spence coming off the bigger lay off and facing question marks since his crash, Garcia has to take the fight to the champion.
The challenger likes to come forward, plant his feet, and swing with heavy hooks to head and body.
Equally, Spence has grown accustom to walking down his opponents and swapping leather.
Expect the pair to sit down on there shots and trade blow for blow.
But Spence has the edge in punch selection and volume, giving him the advanatage.
Garcia will have to start fast but with the champion’s superior physical and technical skills, he could pull away down the stretch to win on points.

But Tarver – who famously ended the reign of Roy Jones Jr – was not impressed by the performance.
And he wants to fight the 23-year-old internet sensation and stop the new age of outsiders venturing into the ring.
Tarver, 52, wrote on Instagram: “I really want to kick @jakepaul ass for what he did to @naterobinson last night and rid boxing of these clowns once and for all.
“He fought a complete novice so fighting me shouldn’t be a problem… @miketyson make this fight.”

Tarver last fought in 2015 with a split-decision defeat against Steve Cunningham.
He has recently been training Evander Holyfield, 58, helping the ex-heavyweight champion make a comeback of his own.
It inspired Tarver to think about lacing up the gloves again, with Jones’ trainer revealing the pair have unfinished business.

But before the bizarre draw, Tyson opened up on how taking toad venom played a part in his dramatic body transformation and ring return.
He said: “I took the medicine and the medicine told me to get into shape.
“It really blew my mind. It told me to come back and start getting in shape.”
According to AddictionCenter.com, toad venom is a psychedelic drug made ‘from a rare species of toad native to the Sonoran Desert’.

It is said to cause ‘hallucinogenic effects [to] take hold in about five minutes after ingestion, causing a powerful religious-like trip that lasts about an hour’.
Tyson told in 2019 of how toad venom ‘killed the monster inside him’ and buried the human wrecking ball that helped build his fame and fortune.
The reformed Baddest Man on The Planet is now building a cannabis empire alongside his business partner Alki David.
And he is a huge advocate for the medicinal benefits of the drug, and even smoked before his comeback fight.
