Anthony Joshua record: What belts does British heavyweight boxing star hold, who has he beaten and when did he turn pro?

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been selling out stadiums and performing in big fights for years now.
But on December 12, AJ will fight in front of just 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena in his first bout of 2020 – and the coronavirus pandemic.

Kubrat Pulev stands between Joshua and a money-spinning fight with Tyson Fury.
But it should be just another day at the office for the Brit superstar, who is becoming a bigger boxing legend with every fight.
    What is Anthony Joshua’s record?
Anthony Joshua’s professional boxing record is 23-1, with his sole loss coming against Andy Ruiz in June 2019.
Joshua has 21 knockouts from his 23 wins, with fights against Joseph Parker and Ruiz Jr going the distance.

What world title belts does Anthony Joshua hold?
Joshua first became a world champion back in 2016, when he won the IBF title from Charles Martin.
The Watford-born star then added the vacant WBA and IBO titles to his collection when he knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in 2017.

AJ then picked up the WBO world title from Parker in 2018, beating the New Zealander in a cagey affair in Cardiff.
Joshua lost all four belts to Ruiz Jr and was stopped by the Mexican in the process, before winning them back on points last December.

    Who has Anthony Joshua beaten?
Joshua was a highly-touted prospect from the moment he turned pro, when Eddie Hearn signed him to Matchroom.
He raced out to 12-0 before taking on Kevin Johnson at the O2 as the main event in 2015, knocking the American out in the second round.
Then came Joshua’s first big pay-per-view night against Dillian Whyte, knocking the Body Snatcher out in the seventh round.

Joshua knocked Povetkin out in the seventh round of their fight in 2018Credit: Reuters
Since then, Joshua has performed solely on pay-per-view, with the majority of his fights being contested in packed stadiums.
Joshua has picked up big wins over Dominic Breazeale, Eric Molina, Klitschko, Carlos Takam, Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Ruiz Jr.
When did Anthony Joshua turn professional?
Joshua turned professional back in 2013, a year after winning gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The 31-year-old was sought after by numerous promoters but ultimately signed a deal with Hearn and Matchroom.
Joshua has remained with Matchroom and Sky Sports in the UK ever since. More

Frank Warren axes Eddie Hearn meeting after his Dubois comments as promoter says ‘it wouldn’t be very nice for him’

FRANK WARREN revealed he no longer has plans to meet with rival promoter Eddie Hearn following comments made about Daniel Dubois.
The pair had planned to link up in order to further discuss a fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Warren was fuming after Hearn questioned the extent of Daniel Dubois’ eye injury Credit: ©Mark Robinson/Matchroom

But after Hearn questioned the extent of the eye injury Dubois suffered against Joe Joyce, Warren axed any chance of meeting the Matchroom boss.
He told Seconds Out: “That’s past, that’s gone, we get on with it, we do what we’ve got to do.
“I’m continuing to make and deliver top quality fights for my fighters, and more importantly the people that watch BT, delivering great fights as we will continue to do so.
“As regarding [Hearn] I don’t know how I could even meet him after what he said about Daniel.

“I don’t think that’d be a very nice meeting for him.”
The animosity stemmed from an interview Hearn did with iFL TV, where he predicted Dubois suffered eye swelling, not a broken orbital.
He said: “I haven’t seen any scans. Report from what? Most people would post some sort of X-ray.
“I’m not a doctor, but it looks like eye-swelling to me, not necessarily a fracture.”

With Warren confirming Dubois suffered a cracked eye socket, the veteran matchmaker demanded an apology from Hearn.
He replied: “He has a fracture, and he had a hemorrhage to his retina.
“He was very lucky, as the doctor said, that it wasn’t any worse than that. It could have been worse if he carried on.
“He was in pain and it was damaged. As I say, there was nerve damage there and that was the pain.
“Joe Joyce done extremely well. He capitalised on his jab, and he kept banging on that.
“It was a close fight going into the round when it was all over. We will have that report, and I will show that report.
“I’m going to show that, and I expect an apology from Matchroom, Mr Hearn, as to what he alleged and said about people lying and not telling the truth on that.
“I’ll be looking forward to getting his apology.”

Fury’s dad John, 56, wants to K.O Mike Tyson and claims he is in better shape than legend despite ‘looking fat as a pig’

JOHN FURY has revealed he wants to KO Mike Tyson – even claiming he’s in better shape than the ripped boxing legend.
Iron Mike, 54, was subject to much speculation before signing his deal to fight Roy Jones Jr.

John Fury reckons he’d KO Mike Tyson thanks to his healthier lifestyle

Mike Tyson looks in great shape as he prepares to return to boxing

One fight he was linked with was against Tyson Fury’s dad – with John even calling out the American in the summer and saying he was “willing to DIE” to beat him.
And Fury Snr revealed in June that while he may look ‘as fat as a pig’, he would win because he’s ‘lived cleaner’.
Tyson weighs in at a lean, mean 17st after a stunning body transformation as he prepares to step back into the ring.
Shannon Briggs and reigning WBA champion Tyson Fury himself were also linked with a Tyson scrap.

But he’s no match for 18st 7lbs John Fury – who named his world heavyweight champion son after Iron Mike – according to the man himself.
John said: “Listen, I’d like to have a go. You know, at the end of the day, I named my son after him, it would be a good thing.
“But I know one thing, he’ll be in no better shape than me.
“I tell you what it is, I’ve got the edge in shape because I’ve lived better, I’ve lived cleaner.

“Tyson, yeah, he was a great, great champion, probably one of the best there’s ever been.
“If anyone is going to come close to beating Tyson [Fury] in this era, that’s him.
“Mike Tyson has got a better chance than Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua at 53 years old.”

He’s past his best. And me? The edge I’ve got is I’ve lived right.
    John Fury

John Fury continued by saying he’s eager to get into the ring with Tyson – and warned the former champ not to be fooled by his figure.
He continued: “But listen I’d like to have a go, because I’m big and strong and game and that’s all you need to be.
“He’s past his best. And me? The edge I’ve got is I’ve lived right.
    “I don’t drink, don’t smoke, I don’t do things I shouldn’t do and I train every day.
“Listen, we’re not body beautifuls. I look as fat as a pig but I can run ten miles – no problem, today.
“And I’m training all the time, and I’m fit and strong and game. And I’ve got a good heart!
“So if he knocks me out he knocks me out, but I’ll try and knock him out, let’s put it that way.
“I’ll give my all. I’ll do the very best I can. I won’t be afraid to get in the ring, I won’t be beat before I’ve started. I’m going to give it my best shot.”
John went on to say that, with some coaching from son Tyson and his team, he’d happily step into the ring against TWO Iron Mikes.

Fury Snr continued: “I’m 18st 7lbs, I’m 55 years old but I’m in great shape.
“Don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t take nothing I shouldn’t do and I eat very, very well.
“Plus I’ve got him [Tyson Fury] to train me. I’ve got the best son in the world…
“And if I start sparring with him, and big Shane and my Hughie and Tommy, I’ve got a good chance of beating anybody with that kind of backing.
“With that kind of team, I’d get in with two Mike Tysons!”

Eddie Hearn mocked by Sky Sports TV viewers for ‘rascal 80s chic’ outfit as Freddie Flintoff asks ‘what’s he wearing?’

EDDIE HEARN was mocked by Sky Sports viewers for his ‘rascal 80s chic’ outfit as cricket legend Freddie Flintoff asked “what’s he wearing?”.
Matchroom promoter Hearn was starring on TV as Billy Joe Saunders defended his WBO super middleweight title with a points victory over Martin Murray.

Hearn’s polo is currently being sold at a discounted price by fashion retailer ReissCredit: Reiss

Vintage 80’s chic mate you will be in it next year 😂👍
    — Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) December 4, 2020

But his eye-catching get-up stole the show, sending social media into a frenzy.
Celeb pal Flintoff called out Hearn on Twitter and wrote “What is @EddieHearn wearing @SkySportsBoxing” alongside a face palm emoji.
Boxing supremo Hearn, 41, saw the funny side and defended his outfit.
He replied: “Vintage 80’s chic mate you will be in it next year.”

Hearn’s zip-neck polo shirt in grey-marl caused quite a stir online and is sold by fashion giants Reiss.
The top is currently on sale for £60 with almost 50 per cent hacked off the list price of £115… and you can see why.
It is advertised along with the suggestion to ‘Style it with tailored trousers, trainers and finish with a bomber jacket for a refined weekend look.’
And Hearn appeared to take the manufacturers’ advice with a smart pair of light grey trousers twinned with his retro polo for the Friday night fight.

But boxing fans tore into Hearn online, with one suggesting he was: “Going crown green bowling after – either that or hosting bullseye.”
Another jibed: “Eddie you look like the new face of Jacamo!!”
A third joked: “80s is the age group not the era.”
A fight fanatic added: “Absolute rascal clobber from @EddieHearn tonight #SaundersMurray #boxing #SkySports.”

Billy Joe Saunders vs Martin Murray LIVE RESULTS: Saunders RETAINS crown by unanimous decision – latest reaction

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS has retained his WBO super-middleweight crown after a dominating win over Martin Murray at Wembley Arena.
Follow all the reaction with our live blog below…
    Live results
Billy Joe Saunders BEATS Martin Murray (points – unanimous decision)
James Tennyson BEATS Josh O’Reilly (TKO 1st round)
Shannon Courtenay BEATS Dorota Norek (TKO 7th round)
Donte Dixon BEATS Angelo Dragone (points)
Lerrone Richards BEATS Timo Laine (points)
Lewis Edmondson BEATS John Telford (TKO 3rd round)

GRIEVING Billy Joe Saunders edged Martin Murray toward retirement with another defence of his WBO super-middleweight title.
The 31-year-old champ lost uncle Tom Beaney in the build-up to the all-English Wembley Arena clash and had his name emblazoned on his kit.

    NINTCHDBPICT000623874166Credit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd
And he did him proud with the 30th win of his career – showing moments of supreme skill and dogged heart – to see off the 38-year-old warhorse, who now has five failed world title bids on his impressive CV.
The southpaw was too fresh, slick and accurate for the St Helens hard man but not powerful enough to stop the respected veteran.
The three judges got to watch a masterclass from Saunders, scoring it 120-109, 120-109 and 118-110 and he can now return to chasing down career-defining fights with Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
He said: “I have been out for over a year and it was like boxing in a cemetery because I like to box for a crowd.
“I tried to set a rhythm but he is a clever old fox so I can not shout people’s names out on that performance.”
Both men prodded and poked with their jabs in the opener, a straight left hand to Murray’s body was probably the best shot of the round from Saunders.  Murray landed a right hand in the second but it only thumped into the Hatfields man’s chest.

    NINTCHDBPICT000623871622Credit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd
Saunders threw more combinations in his fluorescent yellow gloves but the veteran’s guard was high and tight and caught most of them. By the third it was clear Murray was looking to break Saunders’ body, especially off of Saunders’ southpaw jab.
But Saunders twice landed a lead right uppercut that had his few fans clapping in the darkness of the arena.
Murray was down in the fourth, he was definitely hurt after two one-twos, but referee Phil Edwards called it a slip. Saunders was sliding up the gears and slashing through Murray’s defence with laser-like blows.
Saunders hadn’t enjoyed a high-level opponent or performance since bamboozling David Lemieux in 2017 but he didn’t show a shred of ring rust.
It was becoming positively one-sided in the fifth when Murray’s big heart and hard chin were the only things keeping him in it.
Both warring Brits were warned for head butting and trash talking in the sixth and Murray did look alive with a right-hook counter that scored and a jab at the start of the seventh jutted Saunders’ head back

    NINTCHDBPICT000623873261Credit: ©Dave Thompson/Route One Ltd
Trainer Mark Tibbs told Saunders to take the tenth off, after some gruelling clashes and clinches but he landed with a brilliant head-to-body combination.
Saunders had gone three years without an elite opponent and performance but he showed no ringrust as Murray’s resilience provided the perfect platform to showcase his punches and movement.
The proud Traveller won the fight with a piston-like jab and a screw-shot uppercut, taking every single round on two of the cards.
Gutted Murray admitted he lost to a better man and refused to confirm his retirement as he looked forward to racing home to his family.

    MURRAY HAS HIS SAY
Murray says he was ‘beat by the better man’ and describes Saunders as a ‘quality fighter’.
He goes on to say he came out of retirement two years ago as he knew he would get one more title shot.
Murray says he wants to spend time with his family now, and will make a retirement decision afterwards.

    BIG HEARNER
Promoter Eddie Hearn says it was a ‘great performance’.
He reveals Saunders was a day away from announcing a fight with Canelo coronavirus forced it to fall by the wayside.
Hearn says BJS has to fight an elite opponent to truly show off his talent.

    AND STILL
Saunders describes Murray as a ‘cunning old fox’ and credits his defence.
The unbeaten champion admits he needed the rounds going into the New Year having had a year off.
Saunders wants to stay in the gym and keep himself prepared and wants the ‘big names’ like Canelo, Callum Smith and Demetrius Andrade.

    SAUNDERS WINS
Judges score the bout 120-109 (x2) and 118-110 with Saunders retaining his title by unanimous decision.
He can now look ahead to the mega-fight between Canelo and Callum Smith this month.
Facing the winner would promise a WBO and WBA unification bout…

    ALL OVER
After 12, fairly one-sided rounds, Saunders and Murray go to the scorecards.
BJS in charge throughout but didn’t really look to close the show – possibly wanted to get the rounds in.
He should retain his WBO super-middleweight title wide on the scorecards.

    ROUND 12
The 12th and final round here – and it’s been all Billy Joe Saunders here.
Saunders enjoying the last stanza, hands down, walking forward and letting his hands go.
Murray caught in the corner again, defends well but dominant work from the champion.

    ROUND 11
Saunders clips Murray with a one-two. Just misses with a massive left uppercut.
Beautiful left body shot lands for the champion, then snaps Murray’s head back with a short shot on the inside.
Murray looking to tie BJS up now, just to avoid the speed coming his way.

    ROUND TEN
Saunders slips to the outside and lands with a beautiful lead uppercut – a shot that has repeatedly worked this fight.
Combination to head and body lands for BJS – slick stuff here.
Saunders finishes the round on top – but hasn’t yet stunned Murray.

    ROUND NINE
Saunders is showing off really educated pressure here, edging forward with little step and letting his left hand go.
Murray is busier than was the case in earlier rounds but nothing worrying the champ.
Saunders traps Murray into the corner, lands some nice body shots but the challenger covering up well.

    ROUND EIGHT
Lovely sweeping uppercut lands near the end of the bell.
Murray coming forward better in that round, looking to work the body but it puts him in position to be countered walking onto a shot.
    Into round nine we go…

    ROUND EIGHT
Saunders throws three consecutive one-two combinations.
Murray coming forward more and the pair come to blows on the inside.
Saunders lands a low blow and Murray takes his time to recover.

    ROUND SEVEN
Saunders catches Murray with a slick one-two down the middle.
Murray responds with his own – but it’s proven a rarity throughout the opening half.
Right hook followed by a left lands for BJS, but the round finishes with a bit of clinching and holding – Saunders warned he could have a point taken!

    ROUND SIX
Saunders dances around the ring, comes into range and fires off a combination.
Murray’s defence is smart and tight, but he’s struggling to get any sort of offence going.
Few sneaky body shots lands for Murray, but BJS gets back to boxing at range and scores.

    ROUND FIVE
Big shots land with Murray on the ropes, Saunders is hitting hard here.
BJS takes his foot off the gas a bit as he looked to have Murray hurt in the opening stages.
Saunders lets his hands go towards the end of the round, all the challenger can do it cover up.

    ROUND FOUR
Saunders hammers home some shots with Murray on the ropes.
The challenger tries to hold but finds himself on the floor – ref calls no knockdown.
Best round for Saunders, completely on top.

    ROUND FOUR
Saunders’ jab piercing through Murray’s guard – been the difference so far.
Big one-two lands down the middle, speed and accuracy on show for the champion.
Murray is coming forward more but BJS is proving the on top fighter.

    ROUND THREE
Saunders lets his hands go but Murray blocks them.
Another big uppercut through the middle lands for the champion.
Murray comes forward towards the end of the round but BJS fires back, in control here.

    ROUND THREE
Big left uppercut finds home for Saunders, Murray had landed some body shots before that.
BJS with the best punch of the fight so far…

    ROUND TWO
Saunders is getting off his jab well early. Shooting the odd left hand down to the torso.
Murray looks one step behind BJS, can’t catch or counter what’s coming at him.
Saunders lets his hands go and moves off to the side, eye-catching stuff.

    ROUND ONE
Saunders starts on the front foot, stabbing the southpaw jab out to head and body.
Little left to the body lands for BJS.
Murray struggling to get anything off here, Saunders lets his hands go showing off quick speed.

    ROUND ONE
    Here we go!
Murray has it all to do here – surely his last chance to end out his career with a world title.

    THE CHAMP IS HERE
Billy Joe Saunders now making his way to the ring.
He has not fought since last November on the undercard of KSI’s win over Logan Paul.
BJS says he’ll get past Martin Murray and look to face the winner between Callum Smith and Canelo Alvarez.

    UP NEXT
Martin Murray gets his FIFTH world title shot now.
He is walking to the ring ahead of his WBO super-middleweight title fight.

Anthony Yarde looking to turn Lyndon Arthur’s lights out after being inspired by Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness

ANTHONY YARDE wants to turn Lyndon Arthur’s lights off tonight after taking inspiration from Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness.
The always-upbeat light-heavyweight endured a heartbreaking start to the year, losing his father and three grandparents in just six tragic months.

Anthony Yarde is taking inspiration from Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinnessCredit: The Sun

But Yarde, 29, still beat Dec Spelman in September and now has a date with Manchester’s 17-0 underdog.
And the Ilford KO artist has leaned on the show-must-go-on attitude of dating show, catchphrase king McGuinness.
The 20-1 ace said: “I look at other entertainers, not just boxers, as a template.
“If you think of someone with big energy like Paddy from Take Me Out. If he were to show he was down, people would say ‘what’s going on here?’

“People don’t really take into consideration what he might be going through.
“It’s the same with boxing and boxing is more serious. It’s unforgiving. People don’t care about excuses.”
Yarde recently moved his camp from Peacock Gym in Canning Town to Box Up Crime — a training and charity base he is the face of, which is close to his home and heart.

The sweatbox is rammed with boisterous kids in the day but after hours it is a place for Yarde to take five.

He said: “I’m there like a counsellor explaining about things which happen in life.
“I use examples of people in other countries who go through crazy tragedies, wars — and they just have to get on with it.
“When I do sit down and think about it, I do get emotional. It does get overwhelming, but the job must go on, that’s just life.”

Arthur, like Yarde, has emerged from a gang-plagued part of the country, but neither has any interest in bad blood.
The Pat Barrett-trained ace, 29, said: “Anthony is cool, he’s one of the boys.
“There’s no animosity — we saw each other out in Manchester and it was nothing but love.
“But now we are going into battle, it’s war time.”
