Anthony Joshua to earn less than half his initial fight purse for Kubrat Pulev fight after missing out on £8m gate fee

ANTHONY JOSHUA is set to earn less than half his initial purse for his fight with Kubrat Pulev after missing out on a monster £8million gate fee.
The British star, 31, and 39-year-old Bulgarian Pulev were originally set to meet at the 62,303-seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June.

That would have seen AJ pocket £8m just in ticket sales.
However, the fight was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It was originally believed the fight would go ahead behind closed doors.
But the clash has been given the green light to host 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena this weekend.

Joshua will walk away with much less than he’d initially planned – but for the Brit, it will hopefully lead to a money-spinning heavyweight unification fight with Tyson Fury in 2021.
Should fans be allowed back for that fight, Joshua could stand to rake in another bumper sum.
Joshua took home a staggering £50m for his win over Andy Ruiz Jr last December in Saudi Arabia – doubling his career earnings.
Last month, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he expected AJ to miss out on a huge sum of money against Pulev after Derek Chisora lost out on around £2m in gate fees for his loss against Oleksandr Usyk.

Having watched Usyk outpoint Chisora at the Wembley Arena last month, Hearn said: “We have the best bubble in boxing and elite sport is not part of lockdown.
“We can sustain it – but we want to be a profitable business.
“We lost what would have been a £2m gate at the O2 for this fight.”
On Joshua, Hearn confirmed: “AJ was going to take £8m on the gate at Spurs so obviously he is taking a pay cut.”
Hearn recently revealed fighters were losing around 40 per cent of their usual purse due to Covid-19.
All in all, talkSPORT believe Joshua will walk away with just £6m for his fight with Pulev – a little over ten per cent of the fee he raked in from his Ruiz rematch.

Anthony Joshua’s incredible 5,000 calories a day diet which leaves him a lean and mean fighting machine

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S daily diet is enough to feed a family-of-four – but it keeps him lean, mean and a real fighting machine.
Before any big fight, the heavyweight king gorges on his regular pre-bout diet fit for a king.

Anthony Joshua must consume around 5,000 calories a DAY to be lean and mean ahead of fights

Joshua crams in 5,000 calories per day to keep his strength up

That includes between 4,000 and 5,000 calories each day for the Brit bruiser – especially in the build-up to this weekend’s fight with Kubrat Pulev.
A win against the Bulgarian basher will set-up an incredible, all-British heavyweight unification fight with Tyson Fury.
AJ’s bumper diet includes five eggs in the morning, among other food, two chicken breasts – the size of four regular ones – at lunch and two fillet steaks at dinner.

Joshua also has a morning and bedtime snack, maintaining a massive yet healthy mix of protein, carbohydrates and fats.
In 2018, he told Coach: “In the past, I didn’t eat enough… I’d have breakfast, snack during the day and then not eat until dinner.”
His performance nutritionist, Mark Ellison, says his meals are carefully selected now.
Ellison told The Times: “Even though he can eat a large amount of food it has to be good quality – we can’t fuel him on junk.

“I’ve got a BMW 5-series estate and the haul from the greengrocers fills up the boot.”

This allows Joshua, who weighs around 17 stone, to recover swiftly from the huge amount of exercise and weight training he does in the months leading up to a fight.
So, what is actually on the menu?
When he wakes up in the morning at 7.30am after his ten hours of sleep, Joshua gets his energy for the day from a selection of foods.
On some days he will train on an empty stomach as evidence suggests this can help with cardiovascular fitness.
But on most days, he starts with five eggs, fresh fruit, oats, yoghurt, milk and a selection of vegetables – even adding a smoked salmon on a bagel some days, as well.
Joshua will then have an electrolyte drink, recovery shake as well as a sandwich, salad box or pasta pot as a mid-morning snack.

When lunch comes around, Joshua has those two giant chicken breasts with some sweet potatoes and vegetables, followed by some yoghurt and honey.
At dinner time, his team prepares him the two fillet steaks which he’ll have with vegetables and either pasta, wholegrain rice.
To meet their target of calories, Joshua must also have a snack before he goes to bed.
That is a slow-release protein shake and protein bars.
Ellison adds: “If anything he has to be careful because he can easily not get enough fuel in, especially when he’s doing two, two-hour training sessions a day and fulfilling media requirements.”

Who is Kubrat Pulev’s ex-girlfriend Andrea? Bulgarian pop star was dating boxer facing Anthony Joshua

KUBRAT PULEV is set to fight Anthony Joshua this weekend, three years after pulling out of their original bout.
The heavyweight challenger will face Joshua in front of 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena, but what do we know about his former girlfriend?

Andrea has split with ex-boyfriend Kubrat Pulev

Well, the couple are no longer said to be together.
According to reporters in Bulgaria, they split up in July last year after Pulev regained his boxing license in the US.
The Cobra lost had initially lost it after ‘Kissgate’ – an incident that saw him forcibly kiss reporter Jennifer Ravalo on the lips during an interview in March 2019.
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) eventually reinstated his license in July 2019 after he completed his sexual harassment prevention class.

His license came with the caveat that it would be revoked if similar offences occurred.
    Who is Andrea?
Andrea was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1987.
During her teenage years she won numerous beauty pageants including Miss Sofia and Miss Tourism Bulgaria.
She then met Romanian singer Costi Ionita, and together they produced the track Samo Moi and became one of the Balkans most famous duos.

She has won over 30 awards like “Balkan Star” on “Beogradski Pobednik” in Belgrade, “European Performer of the Year on “Kralevski Festival” in Kraljevo Serbia, “Balkan Star” on “Montefolk Awards” in Montenegro.

    Does Andrea have social media?
Andrea is huge on social media, with over 300,000 Instagram followers.
She often posts stunning photos of herself in beachwear and evening wear.
Before the split, she regularly tweeted in support of Pulev, and previously encouraged fans to buy tickets to watch his win over Hughie Fury in Sofia. More

Klitschko revealed blueprint to KO’ing Pulev in 2014 and will help Anthony Joshua follow suit

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S opponent on Saturday is certainly no pushover – his one defeat in 29 fights prove it.
The Bulgarian brute’s only loss came against AJ’s former opponent Wladimir Klitschko back in 2014.

Klitschko appeared to have spotted his weakness, unleashing a barrage of left hooks that left Pulev floored four times in total.
He seemed defenceless to the punch and it could prove to be the gameplan when Joshua steps back into the ring for the first time in a year.
The British champ has already admitted he has taken advice from Klitschko on how to deal with 39-year-old Pulev.

A win looks set to clear the path to take on nemesis Tyson Fury for the undisputed crown.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Joshua said: “We spoke about the Pulev fight. This was like four weeks ago.
“And I’m probably going to catch up with him again now that you’ve just mentioned it. He has his views.”
But he admitted he will take Klitschko’s advice with a ‘pinch of salt’ because every fighter is different.

AJ added: “But every fighter… so Pulev vs Klitschko is different to the Pulev vs Joshua. Pulev vs Klitschko was different to Klitschko vs Joshua. They’re completely different fights.

“So even though Klitschko has been in with both of us, the fights were so different.
“So even though Klitschko is going to give me advice on how to deal with Pulev, I have to take it with a pinch of salt.
“Because the Pulev I am going to be fighting is completely different from the Pulev that Klitschko was fighting.”

Evander Holyfield reveals Mike Tyson trilogy ‘looks like it’s going to happen’ as old rivals prepare for battle

MIKE TYSON’S recent return to the ring could spark a trilogy of fights with fellow heavyweight legend Evander Holyfield.
Last month boxing fans across the globe tuned in to see 54-year-old Tyson battle to a draw in an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr.

It was the American’s first fight in over 15 years after he worked himself back into terrific shape.
And it appears Holyfield wants to get in on the action after claiming negotiations are well underway to reunite with his rival.
Speaking to TMZ, the 58-year-old said: “We’ve definitely had conversations with them. It looks like it’s going to happen.
“Let’s do it, baby. Simple as that. Let’s do it.”

The pair have history that ended in Tyson biting off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear.
Holyfield upset the odds by taking his heavyweight title belt in 1996 before their rematch ended in Tyson’s disqualification following the ear incident.
Just last month Tyson admitted he would show no hesitation in biting his ear again if Holyfield showed dirty tactics in the fight.
The latter was accused of headbutting in which Tyson reacted angrily.

Mike Tyson famously bit off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear

Mike Tyson, right, recently stepped back inside the ring to fight Roy Jones Jr

He told Fox News: “I say, ‘No, never ever again’ but I might do it again.
“Well if he does what he was doing to get bitten, I would bite him again, yeah.”
If a deal to fight Tyson falls through, Holyfield could instead take on Glenn McCrory in April.
McCrory, 56, said: “I spoke to Holyfield on the phone the other night and he said he’ll fight me.
“He’s been scared of me for 30 years, but now he’s finally going to fight me. He’s getting brave.
“We’re looking at April, I’m talking to Joe Brown and Jim Freeman from the BKB company and they want to put it on at the O2 in April.”
McCrory last fought in 1993 when he was outpointed by Alfred Cole. He won 30 of his 39 fights, losing 8 and drawing one.

John Fury vs Mike Tyson tale of the tape: How pair compare as world champ’s dad, 56, speaks on fight v Iron Mike, 54

JOHN FURY revealed he would ‘like to have a go’ at fighting heavyweight legend Mike Tyson.
Tyson returned to the ring for the first time since 2005 at the end of November as he boxed to a draw against Roy Jones Jr.

How Mike Tyson and John Fury match up

It caught the eye of Tyson Fury’s dad John – who called to face Iron Mike.
He said earlier in the year: “Listen, I’d like to have a go. You know, at the end of the day, I named my son after him, it would be a good thing.
“But I know one thing, he’ll be in no better shape than me.
“I tell you what it is, I’ve got the edge in shape because I’ve lived better, I’ve lived cleaner.”

Here SunSport takes a look at how the pair match up despite the call out being nothing more than a fantasy fight.
    Mike Tyson
Tyson’s career as a prizefighter looked over when he retired after two dismal defeats.
But this year he made the stunning announcement that he wanted to make a comeback to raise money in exhibition bouts.
He started off by going eight rounds with Jones – 17 years after they first held talks to fight – in what proved a box office hit, with over 1million pay-per-view buys.

Despite the action providing more clinching than punching, the reduced two-minute rounds suited Tyson.
He kept a good pace and landed some nice body shots, but either refrained or failed to land any of his signature finishing hooks and uppercuts.
Afterwards, Tyson revealed he wanted to make fighting for fun a regular thing.

    John Fury
Fury comes from a long lineage of bare-knuckle fighters, owing to his Irish traveller roots.
But his pro career spanned over eight years, beginning in April 1987 and ending in June 1995.
In total, Fury had 13 bouts, retiring with a record of 8-4-1.
But even during his time in the pro ranks, he still fought bare-knuckle and claims to have won £100,000 after one of his wins.
After his fighting career ended, he focussed on becoming a trainer and has cornered both Tyson and his other son Tommy.
John regularly trains with them both and keeps up the pace on long jogs.

    Fight breakdown
With limited footage on Fury’s career as a fighter it is hard to make any judgement on his skill.
He claims to be in better shape than Iron Mike, but again the evidence is lacking, despite a few clips son Tyson uploaded which revealed John can pack a punch on the heavy bag.
For 54-year-old Tyson, his effort against Jones went some way to prove that he still has plenty of fight left in him.
His trademark head movement and quick footwork was on display, albeit it not so ferociously.
Tyson looked to be making his greatest mark fighting on the inside, instead of throwing hayemakers at range.
Anyone, including Fury, lined up to face the veteran puncher can expect the action to be fought on the inside.
And his right hand – formerly his greatest threat – appeared not so dangerous 15 years on.
But the exhibition rules Tyson signed up for prohibited KOs – meaning he could be one overcooked punch away from closing out the show.

Floyd Mayweather says fighting Logan Paul is ‘another opportunity to do things differently’ in ‘special exhibition’

BOXING legend Floyd Mayweather has revealed his exhibition bout with Logan Paul is another way to show off his boxing skills.
The 43-year-old pits his wits against the YouTuber on February 20 in an encounter that is predicted to shatter PPV records.

Mayweather hasn’t fought since his KO victory against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in their exhibition contest in December 2018.
Meanwhile Paul, 25, has failed to win any of his two boxing contests – losing his rematch to rival KSI last year on points.
But the pair will get it on next year with a venue to be announced in the near future.
Speaking in the Fanmio press release, Mayweather said: “This is going to be a great night for the fans worldwide as we are bringing something special to them through sports and entertainment.

“I have never shied away from doing things differently throughout my career and fighting Logan Paul in this special exhibition is just another opportunity for me to do it again.”
Paul added: “I am always searching for the ultimate challenge and it is a dream to go toe-to-toe with the greatest boxer alive.
“I am ALL IN, and on February 20th, the world could witness the greatest upset in the history of sports.”
Rapper Snoop Dogg has offered to provide commentary for the fight after he delighted fans during Mike Tyson’s bout against Roy Jones Jr.

How Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul compare ahead of their fight
The upcoming fight has been ridiculed by UFC president Dana White as he hit out at the ‘state of boxing’.
He said: “When people ask me what’s the state of boxing right now, that’s where it’s at.
“Didn’t that kid get beat up by the f****** video game kid from England and now he’s going to fight Floyd Mayweather?”
Prior to the contest being announced, MMA commentator Joe Rogan stated Paul had a chance of beating Mayweather, but only if they fought inside the octagon.

Kubrat Pulev net worth: How much money does Bulgarian have and how much will he make vs Anthony Joshua?

KUBRAT PULEV will bid to end Anthony Joshua’s second reign as unified heavyweight champion this weekend.
The former world title challenger, 39, will lock horns with ‘AJ’ at the SSE Wembley Arena on Saturday night.

The pair were supposed to throw down in the summer but saw their clash postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Pulev, who has won his last eight in a row, will enter his second world title fight as a huge underdog.
But the Bulgarian’s latest crack at gold – the first of which came against Wladimir Klitschko six years ago – will see him pocket the biggest payday of his career.
What is Kubrat Pulev’s net worth?
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Pulev’s net worth is around £6.5million.

Most of that cash has been earned from some of his big fights in boxing, including bouts with Klitschko, Derek Chisora and Hughie Fury.

Pulev will earn his highest ever pay day for his clash with Joshua, however.
How much will Kubrat Pulev earn for fighting Anthony Joshua?
Pulev is expected to take home a cool £5m for his meeting with Joshua, who he was originally scheduled to face in October 2017.
It’s currently unknown how much Joshua will take home for his latest title defence, although his purse is expected to dwarf the challenger’s.

Pulev’s payday for facing Joshua could end up being significantly less than £5million if he sticks to the vow he made ahead of the postponement of their summer meeting.
In April, ‘The Cobra’ revealed he intended to donate half of his purse to help the fight against the coronavirus.

“I will donate 50 per cent of the money I earn from the match with Joshua to the tireless heroes in the fight against the coronavirus,” Pulev told Bild.
“I will give doctors, nurses and hospitals the necessary equipment to deal with this devilish virus.”
Pulev is brimming with confidence ahead of his second shot at the unified heavyweight throne, which his promoter Bob Arum reckons he’ll claim in devastating fashion.
“It’s one thing to box and run around the ring, making out you’re second coming of Muhammad Ali when you’re fighting a fat, obese Andy Ruiz – but it’s going to be a different story when you’re fighting a fit and ready Pulev, who’s in great shape and a good boxer,” Arum told Betway Insider.

Anthony Joshua celebrates reclaiming the unified heavyweight titlesCredit: PA:Press Association/PA Images
“I believe Kubrat will be able to match Joshua with boxing ability and will have an opportunity to catch Joshua and knock him out. Pulev is very strong and has good pedigree, so Joshua won’t be able to run and do what he did to Ruiz in the rematch.
“Pulev has the ability to corner Joshua and to take him out, so I believe not only is Pulev going to win the fight but he’s going to win it by knockout.
“We promoted Ruiz 30 times and most of the time he had trouble impacting opponents with his power, so the fact he devastated Joshua so badly indicates to me Joshua has a big weakness and that is his inability to take a punch.”
“I’m not a fool, I’m talking about what I’ve seen: I saw Anthony Joshua got knocked on his ass and thoroughly beaten not so long ago.”
