Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev: UK start time, date, live stream, TV channel, undercard, ring walks for title fight

BOXING gets even bigger this weekend as Anthony Joshua prepares to take on Kubrat Pulev in a huge heavyweight clash in front of 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena.
Joshua will be defending his WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles against the Bulgarian, who he was first scheduled to face over three years ago.

How the fighters compare ahead of their heavyweight bout

The bout is a big one for Joshua, who can all but secure a money-spinning pair of bouts with Tyson Fury with an emphatic win.
When is Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev?
The fight is scheduled to take place on December 12.
It was originally scheduled for June 20 but the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to those plans.
What time does Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev start?
Sky Sports Box Office being their coverage from Wembley Arena at 6pm on Saturday.

What channel is it on and can it believe streamed?
Joshua vs Pulev will be shown live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The price of the pay-per-view has been set at £24.95, which is more than usual for a PPV event.
The event can be live streamed from the Sky Sports Box Office app, which you can download onto your mobile or tablet device.
    What has been said?
Pulev said: “I have been watching his fights carefully. He has a good style and he is a good specimen, but he has not shown any mental toughness.
“Yes, he has skills, but he hasn’t shown the mental strength. This is something from within, in the blood of a man, and he does not have it.

“Whatever mental toughness he’s got, I know I’m the harder person. This is the difference – my toughness will prevail.”

But Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said his man will do the business on fight night.
Hearn told Sky Sports: “I went to see him yesterday, he looked absolutely sensational.
“He’s learning, he’s punching so hard, so sharp, so fast. I think this is going to be a tough fight against Kubrat Pulev. I also think he is going to absolutely destroy him.

“I think he’s going to break him down, he’s going to dissect him, and he’s going to punish him. I think you’re going to see a statement.”

Watch as Anthony Joshua shows off explosive power and speed in training video just days before Kubrat Pulev showdown

ANTHONY JOSHUA gave fans a glimpse into the final stages of his preparation before fighting Kubrat Pulev.
The unified heavyweight champion uploaded a video hitting the heavy bag, as he draws closer to Saturday’s title defence against Pulev.

In the video, AJ lets his hands go working upstairs and down to the body picking up the pace and power.
Joshua, 31, returns to the ring 12 months on from his last win, against Andy Ruiz Jr, also 31, having reclaimed his belts on points in Saudi Arabia.
The Londoner was due to make his homecoming in June against Pulev, 39, until the coronavirus pandemic KO’d any hope.
Now, six months on, AJ is finally braced to fight again, ending his longest run of inactivity since turning pro.

Joshua has been a regular fixture in the British boxing calendar since turning over in 2013, a year after winning gold at the London Olympics.
And ever since winning the world title in 2016, he has boxed at least twice a year.
So, having been afforded a year out of action, Joshua admits to feeling the pressures of ‘ring rust’ – but says that is what makes the comeback so fascinating.

He explained: “That’s what makes this fight so interesting. This year has just thrown every obstacle at us all.

“I can tell you that I’m a million dollars, I’ve been knocking everyone out in sparring – and then I go in there on Saturday night and I get my head punched in because I’ve got ring rust.
“Who knows? But I feel good. I’m looking forward to it.
“I haven’t boxed in such a long time but that’s why in lockdown I’ve done lots of training physically and mentally.”

Anthony Joshua was ‘just playing’ with Tyson Fury over management offer and says his heavyweight rival ‘nibbled’

GLEEFUL Anthony Joshua claims Tyson Fury has turned a sad “nibble” into a mad quibble –  as Britain’s world heavyweight kings clash over AJ’s offer to manage his big rival.
Three-belt champ Joshua says the Gypsy King “couldn’t handle” banter after Fury raged “I’m only interested in smashing your face in”.

AJ cheekily suggested Fury should join his Matchroom team as he was “a superstar in the making… with the right management”.
But Fury saw that as a genuine jab not a Joshing joke as he responded: “Anthony Joshua, has it ever dawned on you I’m not interested in being a superstar, or famous?
“I’m a fighting man & only interested in smashing your face in, u keep the stardom, I’ll stay real, #youbigdosser I’m coming for u superstar, tick tock tick tock.”
Now Joshua, 31, has accused the 32-year-old of taking the bait too easily.

He said: “It was just tongue in cheek, I was just playing with Tyson Fury.”He nibbled! He couldn’t handle it!”
AJ and Fury appear set to fight for their four crowns next year – assuming Joshua beats IBF mandatory Kubrat Pulev, 39, in front of 1,000 fans at Wembley Arena this Saturday.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested the Brits might have to take only HALF their usual pay to keep the fight in this country.
The Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia, can offer far greater riches.

So the two fighters would have to play their part in cutting costs to ensure one of Britain’s biggest ever fights can go ahead on these shores.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will have to take 50 PER CENT pay cut to fight in UK rather than Middle East

ANTHONY JOSHUA and Tyson Fury face a 50 PER CENT pay cut to hold their dream 2021 undisputed decider in the UK.
If AJ comes through Saturday’s WBA, IBF and WBO defence against Kubrat Pulev, little stands in the way of the all-English battle happening over two legs next year.

Eddie Hearn has already confirmed a 50-50 split has been agreed for the first leg, with the winner taking 60-40 for the rematch.
But the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia where Joshua boxed last time out and WBC boss Fury wrestled in 2019, is ready to buy the fight away from British fans.
And Hearn appreciates that, in a post-Covid 19 world, the UK is fighting a losing battle to keep the biggest fight in the nation’s history on home soil.

The Matchroom boss said: “If you ask both fighters and both promotional companies where they’d prefer that fight to take place, everybody would say London, everyone. So if there’s a way to do it then great.

“We’re not in the same situation as many countries which have significant budgets to bring major sporting events to cities or to countries.
“We’re not also in a period where we should be asking the Government to provide that kind of help. They’ve got bigger things to worry about.
“We have to rely on the revenue that could be generated from the fight, via the gate and not the revenue that could be generated by a tourism board or by a Government to bring an event like that to a country, so that’s why it’s always difficult.
“It will literally be probably a 50 per cent pay-cut to do the fight in the UK and that’s how brutal it is.

“If it was 10, 20 or 30 per cent you could have the argument but you’re literally going to make half the money to do it in the UK.”
AJ is set to bank around £6million for this Wembley Arena showdown, with the coffers slightly boosted by the 1000 tickets that went on sale.

“Do I think AJ has earned a lot over the last four years and will he care less about the total in the pot than Tyson Fury? Probably.
    Eddie Hearn

Fury wanted to fight last weekend but his broadcast partners would not cough up his going rate, for the limited level of opponent he was willing to face.
So Hearn is happy to suggest, while Joshua certainly doesn’t fight for free, the Gypsy King will be the one driving up the price.
He said: “In terms of money in the pot, ultimately the fighters will decide where that fight will be held.

“I don’t think you can just put it on Tyson and say, ‘we need to get as much money as possible for him to accept the fight’.
“But I do think AJ has consistently earned a lot of money over the last four years and will he care less about the total number in the pot than Tyson Fury? Probably.
“But still AJ’s not going to do it for half the money just because it sounds nice.”

Why is Tyson Fury not fighting Deontay Wilder for a third time? Will he be at Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev?

TYSON FURY could move straight into a fight with Anthony Joshua next year, rather than fight Deontay Wilder again.
Fury knocked Wilder out in emphatic fashion back in February to win the WBC world heavyweight title.

They were supposed to meet again in the ring this year, but there’s been a whole host of hurdles in the way of the trilogy fight,
Meanwhile, Joshua takes on Kubrat Pulev this weekend, and Fury could make an appearance at the show.
Why is Tyson Fury not fighting Deontay Wilder again?
As soon as Wilder found himself in the right state of mind following his loss to Fury, the American exercised his rematch clause.
Since then, however, it’s been far from plane sailing in regards to getting a fight finalised.

Promoter Bob Arum originally called for it to take place on July 18, but those plans were quickly scrapped because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The fight was moved to October 3, but because of the absence of fans, it was then moved to December.
Fury says he agreed to all the dates proposed to him in the final month of the year, and December 19 was agreed upon.
Throughout all of the negotiations, however, Wilder made serious allegations about Fury’s conduct during their first two bouts, to which the Gypsy King says has ruined the Bronze Bomber’s chances of ever fighting him again.

December 19 was quickly nixed when Arum announced FOX and ESPN in America put the college American football schedule at the forefront of their plans.
And it was then that Fury’s team declared the contract to have expired, with Arum stating that Wilder’s fate would be decided by a judge in the U.S.
Should the judge vote in Wilder’s favour, Fury will likely fight him next, but he could instead choose to take on Joshua if the ruling favours him.
Will Fury be at Joshua vs Pulev?
Rumours have been floating around that Fury will be at Wembley Arena to watch Joshua vs Pulev.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has even said that the Gypsy King is welcome to attend and that he’d love to see the pair face off after.

@anthonyfjoshua has it ever dawned on you I’m not interested in being a superstar, or famous, I’m a fighting man & only interested in smashing your face in, u keep the stardom, I’ll stay real, #youbigdosser I’m coming for u superstar, tick tock tick tock ⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰ pic.twitter.com/4rq5QMoV5P

“If he wants to fight Anthony Joshua, it’s not a case of calling him out, it’s called doing his research and building the fight,” Hearn said.
“Tyson Fury is more than welcome to come down.
