Anthony Joshua reveals tactical advice from Mayweather and used four strongest parts of heavyweight greats to beat Pulev

ANTHONY JOSHUA talked tactics with Floyd Mayweather after his win over Kubrat Pulev.

After the win extended his record to 24-1, Joshua described Mayweather as a ‘great inspiration’.
And he revealed that his performance was inspired by boxing legends Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, Ernie Shavers and Ernie Shavers.
He said: “Floyd’s retired and is a great inspiration to the boxing community.
“It was great to have him in the house even if his bling was blind from me certain angles during the fight.

“I’ve learned from everyone. I enjoyed the uppercut tonight, that was in honour of Mike Tyson.
“I have been working on the Larry Holmes jab, the Ernie Shavers power, the Evander Holyfield parrt.
“I take inspiration from a lot of the greats. Boxing is a serious business and you have to indulge yourself in the greats, who have come before you, to be great.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn claimed AJ absorbed information from the 43-year-old ‘like a sponge’.

Hearn said: “AJ was bleeding information out of him.
“They were talking about slipping jabs, using elbows in a clinch, it just went on and on.
“AJ is like a sponge. Any information he can draw out of people, he loves it. He saw that conversation as so valuable.”
Mayweather told the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO title holder that boxing is a game of ‘chess not checkers’ in a cryptic chat.
Joshua, 31, edged one step closer to an undisputed clash against Tyson Fury with his win over Pulev.
The British rivals are on a course to agree a two-fight deal worth £500 million next year.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury on course to agree TWO mega fights in Middle East and London next year worth £500MILLION

ANTHONY JOSHUA and Tyson Fury are on course to agree TWO mega fights worth £500MILLION.
After AJ blew away Kubrat Pulev, his promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed a venue and TV deals are next on the agenda for the Battle of Britain.

Fury’s promoter Bob Arum said he will discuss plans with Hearn on Monday morning — starting with a £200m showdown in the Middle East.
A potential rematch would be preferred in the UK, in front of 90,000 at Wembley.
WBA, IBF and WBO king AJ refused to call the Gypsy King directly out for their planned 2021 clash after stopping Pulev in the ninth at Wembley Arena.
WBC champ Fury then said his rival “s*** himself on live TV”.

AJ replied yesterday: “That’s good to hear. At least I can get him in the ring. “That’s what we want, right?”
Matchroom boss Hearn insists Joshua is just tired of the theatrics.
Hearn said: “We are all in for that fight and actually what we should be doing is finalising it.
“The only thing that needs to be resolved is where it is going to be and a couple of TV issues. That is it. Everyone is completely in on the finances.

“We sign an agreement and then go to a conversation about the various sites.
“That’s what they did for Fury vs Deontay Wilder — signed the fight, then went to see where they could get the money.
“We need to write to the governing bodies and say, yes, we have a deal and we will confirm dates shortly for what I suppose will be the end of May.”
Hearn confirmed last week Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar are the leading contenders to take the first fight.
As a packed Wembley Stadium is unlikely to happen so soon after the pandemic, a £100m site fee is attractive.

And the two-hour difference should help them smash all UK pay-per-view records, with Hearn targeting around 2.2m buys at around £29.95 a pop.
But it is those lucky TV companies — AJ’s backers DAZN/SkySports and Fury’s ESPN/BTSport — who now have to decide if they can work together.
Arum, who promotes Fury in the US, tweeted: “It looks like the stage is set for the biggest heavyweight championship fight since Ali-Frazier in 1971.
“We will start on Monday working to put that fight together.”
AJ and Fury are set to split the first fight 50/50 — with the winner taking 60 per cent from a rematch.

Watch Anthony Joshua’s stunning knockout against Kubrat Pulev in super slo-mo as champ says ‘thanks for coming’

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S stunning knockout against Kubrat Pulev was on show in super slo-motion as he tweeted: “Thanks for coming”.
Joshua had mandatory challenger Pulev on the floor three times before closing the show in devastating fashion in round nine.

And he shared the moment a perfect one-two combination landed right on the chin and brought the fight to a close.
Pulev, 39, had been on the floor in the same round, but somehow beat the count to carry on.
But as soon as he made it to his feet, AJ, 31, made no mistake in finishing the job off as the next punch he threw had the Bulgarian out cold.
Joshua returned to the ring following a year out, the longest layoff in his career.

Immediately after retaining his WBA, IBF and WBO belts, he was confronted with the possibility of fighting Tyson Fury next year.
AJ set his sights on Fury’s WBC title, the only crown missing in his quest for undisputed glory.
Joshua said: “I started this game in 2013. I’ve been chasing all the belts. I’ve been dealing with mandatories.
“Of course I want the challenge. It’s not about the opponent, it’s about the legacy and the belt.

“Whoever has got the belt, I would love to compete with them. If that is Tyson Fury, let it be Tyson Fury. It’s no big deal.
“It’s one fight at a time, picking them off one by one. That’s all it’s about for me. I’ve got to stay focused.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “There’s been a lot of talk. As he said, it’s less talk, more action.
“Since he came into the office, he wanted to be the undisputed champion of the world.

“It’s the only fight to be made in boxing. It’s the biggest fight in boxing. It’s the biggest fight in British boxing history.
“I know he [Joshua] wants it. He is the best heavyweight in the world, I promise you.
“He’ll break him down, he’ll knock him out, but for me, less talk, more action.

Berlanga, 23, knocked Sierra down three times before the referee waved off the contest.
As a result, ‘The Chosen One’ has still never made it into the second round since turning pro in 2016.
But Berlanga is hopeful his streak will be broken as he faces better opponents.
He said: “[I want] rounds. The better competition, the better opposition we fight, I believe we’re going to get those rounds in.

“We ended 2020 with a bang. 2021 is big year for us, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Berlanga, who began boxing at the age of seven, left the amateurs with a record of 162-17.
He represented the USA in youth competition, but also has Puerto Rican heritage.
And before his latest one round demolition job, he spent time with Puerto Rican legend Tito Trinidad – a former three-weight champion.

And Berlanga revealed he was inspired after receiving a words of wisdom from the now 47-year-old.
He said: “Tito Trinidad was my idol. He still is.
“Just being with him opened up my eyes as to what boxing is about, the dedication, the focus, leaving the streets and the bad people alone.”

And the Gypsy King promised it would take him just three rounds to beat Joshua and emerge as the division’s No1.
New Zealander Parker, who lost to AJ in 2018 and has built a close friendship with Fury, tipped the WBC champion to fulfil his prediction.
He told iFL TV: “If he says it and he believes it, I’m sure he can.”
Both promoters of Joshua, 31, and Fury, 32, confirmed they will begin negotiations for the unification on Monday.

And Parker, who lost the WBO belt against AJ in Cardiff, is hopeful the opposing teams can strike a deal.

“I’m not sure what’s holding it up but hopefully they can come to terms so the world can see a mega, mega fight.

“Fury wins that fight. I just think he’s a very smart boxer and can fight. He showed it in his last fight.”
AJ’s matchmaker Eddie Hearn vowed to come in peace as he attempts to seal a deal with Frank Warren and Bob Arum.

Ricky Hatton brands son Campbell a ‘little s***’ after cheeky comeback about how to avoid looking like his dad

RICKY HATTON branded his son Campbell a “little s***” after he made a cheeky jibe about how he can avoid looking like his dad.
The Hitman scolded his son – who is following in his boxing footsteps after signing professional terms with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom last week.

Campbell, 19, will make his professional debut in February as a super-featherweight after dad Ricky won world titles at light welterweight and welterweight.
In a joint interview – shared on Twitter by Ricky – boxing presenter Michelle Phelps pointed out how the two look exactly alike.
Ricky said: “Don’t say that, you’ll upset him if you say that.”
Campbell countered: “A lot alike but not exactly alike though.”

Ricky continued: “(Pointing at his son) That’s what I used to look like and (pointing at his own face) that’s what you are going to look like.”
But sharp Campbell had a swift comeback for his famous father and quipped: “Not if I move my head.”
Luckily Ricky saw the funny side and alongside the video clip, he wrote: “Chip off the old block my son @CampbellHatton.
“Always got a comeback the little s***.”

Ricky has helped train Campbell through the ranks along with his uncle Matthew who will take the job as a pro with Ricky reverting to manager.
Fans’ favourite Hatton senior won 45 out of 48 fights during an illustrious career.
He only suffered knock-out defeats to boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao before hanging up his gloves after an ill-fated comeback defeat to Vyacheslav Senchenko in 2012.
Hatton – who admitted it won’t be hard to promote Campbell’s fights as he’s clearly not the milkman’s son – said: “I’m extremely proud of Campbell turning professional.
“I’ve been proud of him since the day he was born. He’s a fine young man and he’s following in my footsteps.
“My mum and dad brought me up in a certain way and I’d like to think I’m doing the same thing with Campbell.”

Logan Paul trolls Floyd Mayweather’s height ahead of ‘special exhibition fight’ as he blasts ‘oh my god he’s small’

LOGAN PAUL trolled Floyd Mayweather in a social media post ahead of their ‘special exhibition fight’.
The YouTuber faces the boxing legend in an unprecedented mismatch next February, and can expect to have a FOUR STONE weight advantage and six inch height advantage.

Paul, 25, who stands at 6ft 2in, took aim at Mayweather’s 5ft 8in frame in a doctored picture.
The internet sensation can be seen looking down on retired unbeaten icon, and he captioned the post: “50 and oh my god he’s small.”
Paul’s inspiration for the post was a famous picture of heavyweight hero Muhammad Ali taken in 1963 before his win against British legend Henry Cooper.
Ali is pictured in the ring with a six-year-old named Patrick Power, as he stands over the youngster.

Paul’s latest online jibe comes after the astonishing news he will fight Mayweather next year.
The American celebrity has fought as a professional just once, losing to YouTube rival KSI by split-decision last November.
Five-weight world champion Mayweather – considered one of the greatest boxers ever – retired as a pro in 2017, beating ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor in ten rounds.
But he did come out of retirement a year later in Japan to beat featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in one round.

Mayweather confirmed he will return to Tokyo next year, but first fights Paul in the shock pay-per-view spectacle.
The 43-year-old weighed 10st 6lb the last time he tipped the scales, before he stopped McGregor in ten rounds.
Whereas Paul weighed 14st 2lb, highlighting the extraordinary weight discrepancy between the two.
Mayweather – considered the best in of his generation – is as experienced as they come.
And he appears unbothered by the critics labelling the lucrative fight a farce.
Mayweather said: “This is going to be a great night for the fans worldwide as we are bringing something special to them through sports and entertainment.
“I have never shied away from doing things differently throughout my career and fighting Logan Paul in this special exhibition is just another opportunity for me to do it again.”
