Is Tyson Fury still nominated for Sports Personality of the Year 2020? What has Gypsy King said about his nomination?

TYSON FURY was nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 award last month.
Since then, however, there’s been a little confusion over whether the Gypsy King will remain on the list ahead of the ceremony.

Fury hasn’t been in the ring since February but he’s being linked up to take on Anthony Joshua in his next bout.
Why was Fury nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year?
Fury was nominated thanks to his world heavyweight title-winning exploits earlier this year, knockout Deontay Wilder out in the seventh round of their fight.
Wilder was the slight favourite going into their Las Vegas tussle.
Fury surprised everyone with his tactics, coming forward throughout, knocking Wilder down twice and forcing the American’s corner to throw the towel in.

What has Fury said about the nomination?
Fury posted a clip of himself on Twitter asking the BBC to take him off the list because he didn’t feel he needed an award.
But the BBC responded by saying they would not do so.
“Tyson Fury will remain on the list for Sports Personality of the Year 2020,” the BBC said.
“As always the winner will be decided by the public voting during the live show and it is of course up to Tyson if he chooses to participate in the show.”

But Fury has since responded to that statement by stating on Good Morning Britain he would get his lawyers to send a letter to the BBC demanding he be removed from the list.
“I’ve asked nicely to be taken off the list and they’ve decided they weren’t going to take me off the list,” he told Piers Morgan.
“So I’ve had my lawyer send them a letter demanding that I be taken off the list so let’s hope they listen and get me off that list.
“I don’t need any awards from any TV stations or organisations for me to know who I am.

“I know who I am, know what I’ve done, and I don’t need a big pat on the back and don’t need a glass trophy.
“No disrespect to anyone who wants it, but I see everyone clamouring to get on that list and I’m clamouring to get off it.
“I don’t need gratification from anybody.
“I’m the People’s Champion and the love of the people is worth more to me than everything and I don’t need an award to be celebrated in that way.”
When is the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 ceremony?
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 20.
The event will be begin at 8pm and shown live on BBC One.
Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott will present live from Media City in Salford.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could drop ALL five of their world title belts to secure £500m double fight deal

ANTHONY JOSHUA and Tyson Fury could relinquish their heavyweight world titles in order to secure their all-British blockbuster showdown.
The two stars are on a collision course for the biggest fight in decades in 2021 worth a reported £500million.

AJ successfully defended his WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF belts by delivering a stunning ninth-round knockout to Kubrat Pulev on Saturday.
That cleared the path for the bumper unification clash with the WBC champ Fury.
However, WBO president Paco Valcarcel has already hinted Joshua needs to face No1-ranked Oleksandr Usyk before the Gypsy King or he will have to vacate his belt.
And convincing each of the governing bodies to postpone their respective mandatory defences to allow the Englishmen to battle for the undisputed crown is proving to be a major obstacle.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn admitted there are ‘a few small issues that need ironing out’ after he held positive talks with Fury’s US representative Bob Arum.
And despite the prospect of their being a first undisputed champion for the first time at heavyweight since Lennox Lewis, Hearn says the pair are keen to get it on either with or without the belts on the line.
He said: “We have a fight on our hands, and sorry to the governing bodies, that eclipses all belts.
“We’ve just got to be a bit careful because you may be on the verge of saying, ‘Let’s just get rid of politics right now. Let’s just drop all the belts because if we lose one belt, we might as well lose them all.’

“You’ve got the biggest fight in world boxing, You are paying each governing body hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now you have got another guy (Usyk) who probably wants seven figures to step aside.
“We have just got to be careful because ultimately the aim of this fight has always been to be for the undisputed championship.
“We will do whatever we can to make sure that every belt in boxing is on the line in the Tyson Fury fight.
“What we won’t be is held to ransom and we won’t let politics get involved in a fight that boxing needs.”
Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren raised hopes a deal being agreed soon and stated only ‘egos’ would prevent it from happening.
Hearn added to Daily Mail: “We’re just trying to solve any remaining issues of the fight, of which there aren’t many, to be honest with you.
“We’re trying to move forward collectively to let the governing bodies know we plan to stage this fight probably in May and would like this to be for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.
“There’s a few small issues to iron out but I think we can start looking at drawing up contracts and try to get this moving.”

Jake Paul tells UFC star Nate Diaz ‘I already beat your boy up’ in sparring and taunts ‘you can get the smoke too’

JAKE PAUL taunted Nate Diaz by saying ‘I already beat your boy up’and then told the UFC veteran: ‘You can get the smoke too’.
Diaz started the unlikely online spat by slamming Paul for calling out Conor McGregor and branding the internet star a ‘spoiled f***’.

Nate Diaz pictured with training partner AJ Agazarm

Jake Paul uploaded a sparring video of him and Agazarm

But the social media phenomenon hit back by uploading a sparring session between him and Diaz’s training partner AJ Agazarm.
Paul, 23, tweeted: “I really beat your boy up.
“Aye @NateDiaz209 I already beat your boy up come get your mans then you can get the smoke too.”
It was later revealed the sparring session took place three years ago.

But Agazarm also filmed an MMA video with Paul, in which the social media star was forced to tap out.
And Diaz, 35, was quick to respond and reveal that the YouTuber was dominated in the cage.
Paul hit the headlines after he claimed to have sent McGregor, 32, a $50million cheque to fight.
But he caused uproar after calling the ex-UFC champion an ‘Irish c***’ and disrespecting his fiancee Dee Devlin.

Paul said: “I know you’re probably beating up old dudes in a bar right now or maybe you’re j***ing off as you’re sick of f***ing your wife, I mean, she’s a four [out of ten], Conor you could do a lot better, but happy Monday!”
Diaz then surprisingly leapt to the defence of his rival McGregor, who he fought twice in 2016 with the pair one apiece.
He tweeted: “Jake Paul u need your ass beat for free u spoiled f*** u can’t really fight dumbs*** your gonna end up with your ass whooped for real somewhere talking like that.”
Paul has been campaigning to fight McGregor since emphatically knocking out ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 35, in November.
But UFC president Dana White has no interest in following up with the offer, instead pondering whether to let two-weight champ Amanda Nunes take the fight.
White told TMZ Sports: “I’m thinking of letting Amanda Nunes knock his ass out.”

Anthony Joshua will beat Tyson Fury with ‘speed, power and jab’ as Eddie Hearn breaks down key fight factors

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been backed to beat Tyson Fury with his ‘speed, power and jab’ by promoter Eddie Hearn.
Hearn is now working tirelessly with Fury’s matchmakers Bob Arum and Frank Warren to seal a deal for the AJ and the Gypsy King to finally fight.

Joshua, 31, sent out a message to his long-time rival after dropping Kubrat Pulev four times during his round nine knockout.
And Hearn is confident the same tactics which made sure the unified champion preserved the undisputed title decider will ultimately lead him to victory.
He told William Hill: “Because he has the technical ability to mix it with one of the best technical heavyweights of our time in Tyson Fury, who is big, awkward and clever.
“But (Joshua) has the speed on the inside and the outside, he has the jab to match him, he has the fundamentals, but he also has the speed and power to go in there.

“I’m not a buyer of Tyson Fury’s power. I’m not saying he can’t punch, but it’s not like this is a devastating puncher that’s been bojo-ing people out of the ring for years and years.
“Someone messaged me earlier on Instagram, saying: ‘Tyson Fury is going to knock Anthony Joshua spark out.’
“I said: ‘When was the last time Fury knocked anyone spark out or had them gone?’
“Probably (Steve) Cunningham? But when was that – six or seven years ago?

“I think under (trainer) SugarHill (Steward), he’s working a lot better on his power and aggression, so he’s dangerous.
“But for me, AJ has the speed and the power to get on the inside – and you have to get hold of him and that’s very difficult.”
Deontay Wilder’s case for a third fight with Fury is still being reviewed following a legal dispute.
And Joshua’s WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk has also threatened to get in the way of boxing’s biggest prizefight.
But bullish Hearn has warned they will vacate the belt should it come to it, as fighting Fury is their No1 priority.
He said: “No, we don’t care. Because we’ll vacate a belt, if we have to.
“But we will do everything we can to see that (Fury) fight be undisputed. It’s not a problem, everyone wants it.
“You’ll see that fight next year.”

Logan Paul brands brother Jake ‘f***ing dumb’ for calling out UFC legend Conor McGregor for fight in X-rated rant

LOGAN PAUL admitted his brother Jake’s decision to call out Conor McGregor in an X-rated rant was ‘f***ing dumb’.
Jake hit the headlines after he branded McGregor an ‘Irish c***’ and claimed to have sent him a $50million fight offer.

Even big brother Logan – who faces McGregor’s former opponent Floyd Mayweather next year – was left shocked by the video.
And he fears Jake, 23, may have gone too far by going after ex-UFC champion McGregor – who has 19 knockouts in 22 wins.
Logan, 25, said on his podcast: “I love Jake, obviously, but this one is f***ing dumb. Sorry, sorry, this one is f***ing dumb, dude.”
As Mayweather, 43, beat McGregor, 32, in their 2017 boxing match, Logan was asked why he objects to Jake fighting the loser of that bout.

And he responded: “Conor McGregor is a southpaw, he’s bigger than Floyd Mayweather, he’s younger than Floyd Mayweather.
“He’s way active. I understand what you’re saying, so did everyone else, but he’s just a precision striker, knockout artist.
“Floyd is not. He’s just not. He’s older, everyday he gets older, everyday I get better.
“I understand the discrepancy between us.”

Logan will face Mayweather next February, in what is billed as a ‘special exhibition fight’.
The internet sensation lost his pro debut last year by split-decision to social media rival KSI – real name Olajide William Olatunji.
But his little brother Jake has won his first two bouts, empathically knocking out retired NBA player Nate Robinson, 36, in November.

Jake Paul sent Conor McGregor a DM on Instagram urging him to ‘take the fight pussy’ after $50m offer

JAKE PAUL has continued his relentless pursuit of a boxing match with Conor McGregor by direct messaging the UFC superstar on Instagram.
The YouTuber revealed his eagerness to take on McGregor a few days after scoring a sensational second-round KO victory over Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

Jake Paul slid into Conor McGregor’s direct messages on Instagram

Jake Paul launched a foul-mouthed tirade at Conor McGregor earlier this week

And earlier this week, the 23-year-old doubled down on his desire to box McGregor in a foul-mouthed tirade on Instagram, in which he claimed his team have sent the UFC’s poster boy a whopping £37million ($50million) offer.
McGregor refrained from responding to the x-rated call-out, in which Paul made derogatory comments about the Irishman’s fiancee, Dee Devlin.
And in another attempt to get the former two-division UFC champion’s attention Paul – whose older brother Logan will box Floyd Mayweather in February – sent a short and sweet direct message to The Notorious on Instagram.
Paul’s message read: “Take the fight pussy.”

After sharing his DM to McGregor, Paul launched a blistering rant at UFC president Dana White, who earlier that day revealed he was willing to let women’s bantamweight and featherweight queen Amanda Nunes fight the former Disney star.
He said: “Alright, Dana, let me try to understand your logic here: So you’re saying you don’t want me to fight Conor McGregor because he’s one of the greatest fighters in the world and I’m just like a YouTuber of whatever.
“But then, in a statement today, you say: ‘Oh, I’m thinking about just having Amanda Nunes knock him out.’ But she’s also one of the greatest.
“Dana, you seem to have this thing where you sort of hate on videogamers or YouTubers and influencers and us boxing and all this stuff.

“But then, you spend half your time hanging out with the Nelk Boys. And I know why. It’s because they have hella influence over the male audience and you know that’s gonna promote the UFC.
“And right now, baby, there’s nobody in this f***ing world who is promoting the UFC as much as me.
Tens of millions of views, number one search result on Google when you type in Conor McGregor, when you type in UFC, when you type in Dana White. So you’re not making sense here.
“Dana, I know the world doesn’t really know this because the UFC is this huge company. But we all know it’s not doing that well.

Jake Paul knocked out Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout with Roy Jones JrCredit: AP:Associated Press
“Anyone who is involved in WME and all the public stocks and everything that went south there, we know the company is not doing well. And I’m the biggest money fight you can do unless Khabib comes out of retirement.
“So if you want the UFC to make the most amount of money, you better start to wake the f**k up and realise that Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor is going to happen at some point.”
Paul’s rant at White came shortly after he ambushed McGregor’s team-mate Dillon Danis and pelted him with water balloons.
Paul may very well be a combat sports novice, but he’s well and truly at the centre of the boxing and MMA worlds at this moment in time.

Chris Eubank Jr reckons he can tame Canelo Alvarez despite him being a modern-day version of Mike Tyson

SAUL ‘CANELO’ ALVAREZ is a modern-day Mike Tyson but Chris Eubank Jr reckons he can tame the planet’s new baddest man.
The Mexican superstar has the weight of his fight-crazy nation behind him, all four sanctioning bodies desperate to work with him and very few officials willing to score against him.

Chris Eubank Jr claims his ‘fearlessness’ is the key to toppling legend Saul AlvarezCredit: EPA

Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez is heavy favourite against Brit Callum Smith in Texas on Sunday, with Eubank waiting in the wingsCredit: Getty – Contributor

On top of that, the 30-year-old four-weight champion is one of the finest technical boxers and most ruthless body punches around, with a chin seemingly made from Aztec gold.
Because of that, Eubank Jr gives fellow Brit Callum Smith very little chance when they meet on Saturday night in Texas.
But the Brighton 31-year-old says his own ruthless aggression will be enough to topple one of the planet’s top pound-for-pound icons, if they get to clash.

SunSport’s pound for pound top ten
“Fearlessness is what beats Canelo,” Eubank Jr said. “His opponents have been scared.

“Callum will fight him like a scared fighter, just like Sergey Kovalev did in his previous fight.
“These guys are going in to survive, just to escape a knockout or getting hurt.
“I don’t have that in me, no matter how big or bad my opponent is, I attack them and Canelo is not used to that.
“He is used to winning these fights before he even gets in the ring, like Mike Tyson used to.

“But nobody is going to get into my head and make me put my tail between my legs.
“I think my speed and combination punches would give him huge problems.”
Eubank Jr campaigned at Smith’s super-middle limit between 2017 and 2019 but is now the WBA’s interim middleweight champ.

Aside from him being this big guy in the sport, he has the title I want and I think I can beat him. That fight has to happen or he has to vacate the belt.
    Chris Eubank Jr on Alvarez

Canelo holds that full title and if he chops down 6ft 3in Smith, as Eubank Jr expects, the son of British ring legend Chris Sr will bid again for his crack at greatness.
He said: “The Callum Smith fight is not a bad fight, because right now there are not a lot of guys who want to fight Canelo.
“Billy Joe Saunders wimped out of the fight and Callum stepped up and you have to respect him for that.
“I don’t see Callum having much success, especially after watching his performance against John Ryder.
“I guess you could say he has a puncher’s chance, he is strong and he can hit but Canelo has a good chin.

“After that fight I will be right there, trying to make that Canelo fight.
“I have said that he is No1 on my hitlist and he has the WBA world title and I have the interim title.
“Aside from him being this big guy in the sport, he has the title I want and I think I can beat him. That fight has to happen or he has to vacate the belt.”
