Ex-UFC star Paige VanZant bulking up for brutal bare-knuckle boxing debut as she shows off ‘progress of hard work’

PAIGE VANZANT appears to have bulked up for her bare-knuckle boxing debut – showing off her ‘progress of hard work’.
The ex-UFC star makes her brutal switch into the ring on February 5, having signed for Bare Knuckle Boxing Fighting Championship in 2020.

She will face former pro boxer Britain Hart – who is 1-2 in BKBFC.
And VanZant looks to be in fine form as she flexed her biceps on Instagram and revealed a ripped abdomen.
The American left the UFC with an 8-5 MMA record before deciding to embark on a new venture.
Hart, 30, meanwhile has boxed 11 times as a professional, with a record of 4-4-3, before her BKBFC switch in 2018.

BKBFC president David Feldman told MMAFighting: “Britain’s a real tough girl – she’s skilled, but she’s not the best technical boxer in the world
“Paige isn’t going to have to chase her down.
“It’s going to be competitive, but I think it’s going to be a good opponent choice for Paige on her first event.

“[Paige is] getting paid very well, and I don’t think we could have thrown her somebody that never fought bare-knuckle before, or at least someone that had a pretty well-established record.
“I don’t think the fans would have liked that. We’re going to give the fans what they want.”
VanZant will kick off her bare-knuckle career two days before the Super Bowl, which is currently scheduled for February 7 at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
As a result, the promotion are hoping to steal some attention from the NFL finale coverage before the fight.

Oscar De La Hoya would BEAT Gennady Golovkin by unanimous decision despite nine-year age gap, predicts Bernard Hopkins

BERNARD HOPKINS has backed Oscar De La Hoya to BEAT Gennady Golovkin by unanimous decision.
That is despite the nine-year age gap and the fact GGG is the current IBF middleweight champion while De La Hoya has not fought since 2009.

But Hopkins – who runs Golden Boy promotions with De La Hoya – reckons Golovkin is on the downward spiral and easily beatable.
He told FightHype: “Why do I understand why Oscar believes and knows that he can beat GGG? Because GGG declines every year.
“What he has left is always his punch. You take that away — even though it’s still swimming in shark water, until the bell rings and it’s the 12th round and it’s over with.

“If Oscar was gonna come back and I had a say in it – I would take GGG.
“GGG always had and always will have a punch. That is declining, even in the win recently. Don’t let that fight fool you…it don’t fool these eyes.
“GGG is a Hall of Famer by no doubt, he earned his position.
“But a smart (De La Hoya), seen every style, been in there with better talent, that can pick the lock and systematically knowing that if he has the right plan, the right condition with all his experience, Oscar wins by unanimous decision.”

De La Hoya, who was knocked out by Hopkins in 2004, hung up the gloves almost 12 years ago after a brutal loss to Manny Pacquiao.

But after the success of Mike Tyson’s comeback aged 54 in 2020, the 47-year-old is planning on a return of his own.
Unlike Tyson, who drew in an eight-round exhibition with Roy Jones Jr, 52, De La Hoya wants to re-join the professional ranks.
And with training being ramped up, Hopkins – who defied age by holding the world title aged 49 – wants to see his business partner fight Golovkin by September.
He said: “I will let Oscar know in Texas, let’s start calling this guy out for September of ‘21.

“Obviously he’s already working now, I can’t reveal how hard, but he’s working – going into September, the build-up, the talk, the promotion of it, and then you see Oscar slimmed down.
“I would like to see that fight before ‘21 is out.
“And I say to Oscar, if he’s really, really, really determined to come back and have to pick a big fight – fighting GGG is taking you serious.
“People will be thinking Oscar lost it and they’d be thinking he’s gonna get hurt.
“Well, I think that’s the only thing that’s gonna motivate him not to get hurt. This fight sells. Oscar’s a brand, love him or hate him, this fight sells.”

Eddie Hearn wants Anthony Joshua and Tyson’s second clash in Cardiff but ‘a lot of pressure’ coming from abroad

EDDIE HEARN wants the second super fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to take place in Cardiff.
But the promoter admits there is plenty of pressure to stage the hugely anticipated British heavyweight showdowns abroad.

The second fight between the boxing superstars could be held in CardiffCredit: PA:Press Association

Joshua and Fury have agreed a two-fight deal for one of the biggest heavyweight contests in boxing history.
The first fight is set to take place overseas this summer with the rematch expected towards the end of the year.
Hearn, who hopes to stage the second fight in the UK, told Boxing Scene: “At the moment as a country we have got better things to spend our money on than a major sporting event.
“We will be under a lot of pressure for that fight not to be in the UK but I don’t want both of them to be outside the UK if I can at all help it.”

With the rematch expected to take place in November or December, the fight would need to be under a roof because of the weather – which opens the door to using the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Joshua last fought at the stadium in 2018 when he defeated Joseph Parker on points.
It seems inevitable the first blockbuster fight will go abroad despite the clamour to stage the contest in the UK.
Hearn said: “We’ve had conversations with Australia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Eastern Europe, America.

“We’ve had so many approaches in the past about so many different fights. Generally, half of them are real and half are someone who’s trying to spin some commission.
“That’s why I want to get into a position where we can go out collectively to talk to these people once a deal is in place.
“I think the Middle East will be very aggressive and will be frontrunners in this.
“But we’ve had a lot of other interesting approaches from territories that we might not have thought were players in this fight but I believe they are.”

    ‘BIG HEART’
Thor was full of praise for cruiserweight Ward after the lively draw: “Steven is unbelievable. I doubt many people would want to step into a ring with someone my size.
“Stevie has a big heart. To come here and do this exhibition with me means a lot. I needed that experience.
“Steven is the same height as my opponent in September, and this was great.”

    BOXING CLEVER
Thor’s team will be very pleased with his mobility and ring awareness showed in that tune up, his first boxing match.
The big man says he plans to fight a few more times as his preparations continue for September’s fight against strongman rival Eddie Hall.

    THOR VS WARD FIGHT REPORT
    From Wally Downes Jr
Brave Steven Ward survived his crazy fight with man-mountain Hafthor Bjornsson.
The 6ft 9in Iceland strongman and Game of Thrones star needed a warm-up bout before fighting fellow giant Eddie Hall in the heaviest fight in boxing history in September and picked the Irish cruiserweight.
Bjornsson weighed a giant 24st for the three-round Dubai exhibition and towered over 13-1 full-time boxer Ward who was 15st.
Southpaw Bjornsson, who shed a massive 8st of bulk for the Middle East showdown, held the centre of the ring and let Belfast boxer Ward dance around him in front of a full-house at the Conrad hotel.

    THOR SPEAKS
Thor has spoken on Instagram after his first boxing fight.
The Mountain will fight again soon as his preparations for his HUGE boxing fight vs Eddie Hall continue.
He posted after the fight: “This was great! Thank you all for the positive feedback! I’ll be doing more exhibition matches in my preparation for my main fight in September. Who should I fight next?”

    THOR-T CRIME
Eddie Hall can hardly wait to get in the ring with Hafthor Bjornsson, who he accused of “smearing him with lies” by labelling him a cheat after his World’s Strongest Man victory.
Ahead of Bjornsson’s fight with Steven Ward, Hall said: “When I achieved my dream of winning World’s Strongest Man three years ago, I couldn’t get wait to get back to Britain to thank everyone and share the title.
“Before I even got home to my friends and family to tell them the news, one man took bad sportsmanship to a whole new level and it was plastered all over the world’s media.
“This is a quote from Hafthor Bjornsson: ‘I was robbed.’
“For the last three years, instead of answering questions about how I defeated some of the greatest strongmen to ever live, Hafthor included, instead I had people questioning whether I really won it or not.
“Hafthor Bjornsson and his entourage have been smearing my title and the referee Colin Bryce’s reputation for the last three years.
“Because he was the Mountain from Game of Thrones, a huge TV star, people listened and people believed him.”

    HALL OF FAME
Hafthor Bjornsson has promised to knock out World’s Strongest Man rival Eddie Hall in September.
Following his boxing debut last night, he said: “I have huge respect for this sport, this is just the beginning.
“I will be in the best shape of my life in September this year and I will knock Eddie Hall out.”

He commented: “I’ve never seen a big man like that move so well. He hit me one shot. It shook me to my boots.
“So, I started running. It was great being back, though. Thanks to everyone who came out.”

    FIT THOR ACTION
Steven Ward praised opponent Hafthor Bjornsson’s fitness after the pair battled to a draw.
The Game of Thrones star weighed in nine stone heavier than Ward.
But Irishman Ward said: “What a night. The exhibition is over and big Thor hits like a horse.
“But it was great. It was quite exciting, it was a great set-up and it was class having a crowd finally back watching boxing. I never expected Thor to be that fit.”

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight location CONFIRMED with both boxing stars to earn around £73million, Bob Arum says

A LOCATION for Anthony Joshua’s unification fight against Tyson Fury has been confirmed.
That is according to promoter Bob Arum, who claimed both boxers will earn around £73million each.

The fight is likely to place at prime time in the UK – but a date is yet to be decided.
Arum told Barbershop Conversations: “We have a location, that’s true.
“We have a location and, as far as the date is confirmed, we haven’t zeroed in on a date.
“It could be as late as June because it would give more time to solve the coronavirus problem. By June, most people will be vaccinated, so it’s possible.

“And then we would do the fight, pay-per-view in the UK and pay-per-view early evening in the United States.”

Arum then revealed that both fighters are set to rake in around £100m (£73m) each from the fight.
He said: “The Joshua vs Fury fight will earn each of the guys close to $100million. Each of the guys.

“It is the biggest fight in history in the UK, not even close.

“Around the world it is the biggest fight that people wanna see.”
Negotiations over the ‘Battle of Britain’ are understood to have progressed smoothly
Arum, 89, expects the deal to be signed and agreed within the next fortnight.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn has already revealed the fight is not expected to take place in the UK.
Hearn identified Saudi Arabia as an option as they could make twice the money.
He told iFL TV: “The government here don’t invest in bringing mega-events to the UK – they don’t necessarily need to.
“They’ve got a Premier League football game every weekend, selling 50,000-80,000 [tickets].”

Joshua beat Kubrat Pulev in December to set up the historic undisputed title decider with Fury.
Fury, 30-0-1, has predicted he will beat the Watford-born bruiser inside two rounds.
But Joshua, 24-1, is on a mission to take the 32-year-old’s head clean off his shoulders.

Bjornsson gave a good account of himself on his boxing debut in Dubai

Bjornsson showed some decent footwork, movement and jabbing technique against Ward, and even dropped the pro boxer on one occasion.
But the three-round fight, with each lasting three minutes, ended in a stalemate.
And speaking afterwards, the 2018 World’s Strongest Man winner declared he will KO British rival Hall when the duo collide in Las Vegas later this year.
Bjornsson, who also holds the world-record deadlift at 501kg, said: “I have huge respect for this sport, this is just the beginning.

“I will be in the best shape of my life in September this year and I will knock Eddie Hall out.”
Meanwhile, Ward was full of praise for his much bigger opponent.
Ward said: “What a night. The exhibition is over and big Thor hits like a horse.
“But it was great. It was quite exciting, it was a great set-up and it was class having a crowd finally back watching boxing. I never expected Thor to be that fit.”

All eyes will now be on Hall, another former World’s Strongest Man winner and the first person in history deadlift half a ton.
He has made no secret of his disdain for Game of Thrones star Bjornsson, saying: “We absolute f***ing despise each other beyond belief. If he was on fire I wouldn’t p*** on him.
“The hatred is 100 per cent real. If I saw Thor face-to-face it would take a lot for me not to punch him in the face.”
