Joe Joyce breaks down how Tyson Fury will beat Anthony Joshua and reveals ‘negative’ AJ is ‘wary of shots coming at him’

JOE JOYCE reckons Tyson Fury’s technique, mental strength and experience will be enough to defeat Anthony Joshua.
And the Juggernaut believes AJ’s ‘negative style’ will contribute to his undoing against his fellow Brit.

The heavyweight showdown between Fury and Joshua to unify the division is verbally agreed to take place this year.
Pundits and fighters are split over who they think will win – Carl Froch, Tony Bellew and Wladimir Klitschko are in Team AJ.
But Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr and George Foreman are backing the Gypsy King.
And Joyce is in the latter camp, believing the unbeaten WBC champ will come out on top.

The 35-year-old told the Evening Standard: “I’m going with Fury because of his performances and the way he’s come back from his lowest point to beat Deontay Wilder for the WBC.
“I think that while Joshua’s picked himself up since losing to Andy Ruiz Jr, he’s kind of been a bit too negative in his style, and been a bit wary of the shots coming back at him.
    “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a 50-50 fight.
“Joshua has got great strength, hand speed, dedication and motivation, and he’s very competitive.

“With Fury, you know he is mentally very strong, tactically as well.
“He’s unorthodox and hard to hit, he’s fast and he’s a bigger guy with the longer reach. For me, he has the edge.”
Joyce beat Daniel Dubois in November to land British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles.
That put him right into the mix of the discussions about a shot at a world title.
And the Putney powerhouse reckons he can take on the challenge of facing Joshua and Fury if he first sees off Oleksandr Usyk.
He added: “I think I’m ready for them both. They’re both at the top of their game.
“I’d make sure I have a great training camp and get my tactics right but I’m confident of my ability. I’ve sparred them both, we had competitive spars and it’ll be the same on fight night, just with a lot more at stake.
“If I get through Usyk and make that, and beat him, I’ve got the potential to fight the winner of AJ-Fury, which is the biggest fight. That’s all of the belts on the line.”

Watch Canelo Alvarez look sharp on heavy bag with thunderous shots as he prepares for ring return against Avni Yidirim

CANELO ALVAREZ has once again showcased his devastating power ahead of his clash with Avni Yildirim.

And the pound-for-pound king’s promoter – Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn – has given fans a glimpse into his preparations for his showdown with The Turkish Wolf, sharing a video of Canelo hitting the heavy bag on Twitter.
The clip shows the 30-year-old brutalising the bag with vicious hooks, which echo throughout the gym.
What made the gut-wrenching shots even more impressive was the fact they were thrown with very little wind-up.
Canelo’s handy work on the heavy bag drew praise several from boxing fans, one of whom tweeted: “Hitting the bags like [Floyd] Mayweather.”

Another said: “My liver hurts just watching it.”
And another said: “Freakish power… kind of scary. He really hurt Amir Khan and [Sergey] Kovalev.”

SunSport’s pound for pound top ten
Canelo’s battle with Yildirim will be his first outing since his unanimous decision victory over Callum Smith last December.
Despite Yildirim being his mandatory challenger, boxing fans are far from enthused by the fight.

But former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Andre Ward insists critics of the bout can have no complaints.
During an appearance on the AK and Barak Show, he said: “I don’t think anybody should be upset. That’s really the name of the game.

“I don’t care what your resume is, it’s not healthy to face a top guy fight in and fight out.
“You won’t last long and if you do, you’re going to have some issues when your career is over. It’s a chess game.”
He added: “You got to take a hard fight, maybe like a decent name like he just fought Callum Smith. Then you got to fight a mandatory.
“The mandatory is out of his hands so he’s got to satisfy that from the WBC.
“Then he’s got to face another good name in the sport like Billy Joe Saunders. I don’t have a problem with that at all.” More

Floyd Mayweather snubs Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali in his list of five greatest boxers – but puts himself in top spot

FLOYD MAYWEATHER declared himself as the greatest boxer of all time when asked for his top five – and snubbed both Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
The 43-year-old – who was announced as Boxrec’s No1 in June 2020 – believes he is levels ahead of everyone else after ending his career having won all 50 of his fights as a professional.

Floyd Mayweather has named himself the greatest boxer of all time

Mayweather – who is due to come out of retirement to face YouTuber-turned boxer Logal Paul – appeared on rapper Fat Joe’s Instagram live video when he was asked with who his top five are.
Breaking it down, he stated: “We’re going to have to go, OK we’ll go Money Mayweather, we got to go Pernell Whitaker, imma go, Roberto Duran, man you put me in a tight predicament.
“As far as with the heavyweights, if we’re going to go heavyweights, I’m going to be honest, I’ve got to go Larry Holmes.”
Fat Joe then interjected where he stated that he doesn’t believe Holmes is better than Ali or Tyson, to which Mayweather said: “Do you want me to give you the breakdown?

“Larry Holmes beat everybody in his era, when Larry Holmes got beat by Mike Tyson, he got beat by a young hungry champion and he came out of a year’s retirement and got beat by Tyson.
    GO WITH THE FLOW
“I’ve got to say Larry Holmes, he had the basic fundamentals, he had the jab and even right now he’s still living a great life because he made smart investments.
“So he was good from the beginning of his career to the end of his career.”
Detailing his final pick, Mayweather added: “Aaron Pryor, the only reason why Aaron Pryor lost a fight was because of drugs, he lost only one fight because of drugs.”

Here SunSport runs you down Mayweather’s top five greatest boxers of all time:

How Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul compare ahead of their fight
    1. FLOYD MAYWEATHER
It comes as no surprise Mayweather has put himself in first place as he refers to himself as The Best Ever.
The American – who picked up a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics – won 15 world titles across five weight divisions.
He holds notable victories against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.
And he easily defeated UFC mega-star Conor McGregor when he crossed-over to the ring back in August 2017.
    2. PERNELL WHITAKER
The former boxer picked up world titles in four weight classes, as he finished his career in 2001 having won 40 out of 46 contests.
Whitaker – who died at the age of 55 in July 2019 – still holds the record as being the longest unified lightweight champion in boxing history after defending his title six times.

    3. ROBERTO DURAN
The 69-year-old competed in a whopping 119 fights during his career that spanned 33 years from 1968-2001.
During that time he won 103 times, winning world titles in four divisions as he became just the second fighter after Jack Johnson to step inside the ring in five decades.
    4. LARRY HOLMES
Even though his entry puzzled Fat Joe, the 70-year-old is a three-time former heavyweight world champion.
He was the only man to ever stop Muhammad Ali, while he also boasted victories against the likes of Trevor Berbick, Leon Spinks as well as Earnie Shavers.

    5. AARON PRYOR
A two-time light-welterweight champion, the Hawk won 39 out of his 40 fights – with 35 of his victories coming by way of knockout.
He finished his career in 1990 after knocking out Roger Choate in the seventh round.
His only defeat came at the hands of journeyman Bobby Joe Young after he spent 29 months out of the ring.

Manny Pacquiao’s rep confirms demand for Conor McGregor fight ‘not there presently’ after Dustin Poirier UFC 257 win

MANNY PACQUIAO’S representative confirmed their interest in fighting Conor McGregor is ‘not there presently’.
It comes after McGregor was knocked out and stunned by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, losing in round two.

The Irishman had revealed several times in the build up to his UFC return that talks were intensifying between himself and Pacquiao.
But McGregor’s proposed return to the ring – having lost his boxing debut to Floyd Mayweather in 2017 – is all-but KO’d as he was upset in Abu Dhabi.
Now, he has been told to focus his efforts on redeeming himself in the octagon with Pacquiao no longer pursuing the former two-division UFC champion.

Sean Gibbons, president of Manny Pacquiao promotions, told SunSport: “Very unfortunate, it looked like Conor looked past Dustin and got knocked out.
“Maybe he had the Senator on his mind. I think the demand for the fight is not there presently.
“Conor has some business to clean up and handle in the UFC.
“It’s a bummer, it could have been fun for as long as it lasted and know leg kicks would have made a world of difference.”

As quickly as McGregor picked himself up from the canvas and addressed defeat, Pacquiao appeared to move on in another direction.

Lightweight sensation Ryan Garcia, 22, announced on Instagram that he would be fighting Pacquaio, 42.
It is understood the two are in talks to potentially box in an exhibition bout.
McGregor revealed after the loss on Fight Island that a deal with eight-division champion PacMan was almost signed.
But now the southpaw, who was left unable to walk after Poirier battered his calves with kicks, has been left second guessing his next move.
McGregor, 32, said: “I always did want to focus on my MMA career but I’m also open. I’ll just see what happens. I don’t know what will happen.
“That Manny fight was happening. It was as good as done.
“I just want to get in and get back into a bounce, especially against that style of fighter, and not take those kicks.
“Not play with those kicks. It’s just a motherfucker to take. That’s my mind going.”

News broke online that the ‘special exhibition fight’ had suffered a change of date having been initially scheduled for February 20.
Opening up about the development, Paul said on The Night Shift Gaming: “We’re figuring it out now.
“There was some complications with – actually, I don’t know how much I can say.
“I will say this; the complications are when you’re dealing with someone like Floyd Mayweather.

“Who is the most desired, highest paid fighter on the planet and he operates at a certain calibre, and the people around him want to make sure their talent, their fighter is performing at a certain level.
“There are a lot hoops to jump through, there a lot of people involved and you’ve only got one shot at it so you need to get it absolutely 1,000 per cent right.
“We’re just making sure we’re doing that. But yeah, I’m still going to beat the s*** out of Floyd Mayweather.
“Or, maybe he’s going to beat the s*** out of me, who knows? Point is, it’s still going to happen.”

Paul, 25, has fought just once as a professional, losing his debut to internet rival KSI, 27, by split-decision in 2019 after having a two-point deduction.
Mayweather, 43, meanwhile, officially retired in 2017 after stopping former UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.
He did make a return a year later, wiping out featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout.
Mayweather now prepares to fight again under similar circumstances, gearing up for his pay-per-view spectacle with Paul.

Anthony Joshua could be ordered to fight forgotten heavyweight champion Charr if WBA ‘regular’ king beats Bryan

ANTHONY JOSHUA might have another hurdle in the way of his super-fight against Tyson Fury in the form of WBA ‘regular’ champ Mahmoud Charr.
The Syrian is scheduled to make his first defence of that belt in three years when he fights Trevor Bryan in Florida.

Charr has not yet flown out to the US as he waits for paperwork to be filed for the title scrap.
But he is predicting victory on Friday night – and then hopes the WBA push for him to be next in line for Joshua’s ‘super’ version.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the 36-year-old said: “I’m ready. I’ve trained very hard, I’ve sparred very hard. I’m 100 per cent fit.
“This is the mandatory fight for Joshua.”

And speaking of the prospect of facing Joshua, he added: “I hope the fight will happen.
“I’m the first heavyweight champion from the Middle East.”
Charr hasn’t fought since November 2017.
His last fight saw him pick up the WBA ‘regular’ belt after he outpointed Alexander Ustinov in his native Germany.

Charr’s lengthy absence from the ring is due to promotional wrangles, while he was also suspended for an adverse VADA drug test.
Though his suspension from the squared circle was later lifted by the WBA.
Despite Charr’s hopes, Joshua’s heavyweight unification bout with Tyson Fury is edging ever closer, as contract talks advance this week.
Boxing fans around the world have been clamouring for the fight for much of the last 12 months, particularly since Fury’s demolition of Deontay Wilder last February.

And with Olexandr Usyk and the Bronze Bomber seemingly out of the way for now, talks between Bob Arum, Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn are set to ramp up this week.
The Gypsy King’s US co-promoter Arum, 89, explained to talkSPORT: “I talked to Eddie yesterday.
“Eddie, with the Joshua people, will have the first draft of the contract to us on Tuesday.
“And then I will circulate it to Frank [Warren], to Tyson and to the various lawyers.
“We’ll then get back to Eddie with our comments and I really believe that this is pretty much a no-brainer because everybody are professionals and want this to happen.
“So I think shortly we’ll be able to tie this up and then jointly select the site.”

Conor McGregor urged to destroy ‘utter clown’ Jake Paul NEXT in ‘tune-up’ fight to build confidence for UFC return

CONOR McGREGOR has been urged to put on a demolition job against Jake Paul in a ‘tune-up’ fight – to help build back his confidence.

Beforehand, YouTuber Paul pestered the UFC superstar for a fight, claiming he had a $50million purse waiting for him.
But the social media sensation was just as quick to bask in McGregor’s defeat, goading him with a retracted $10,000 offer.
Joe Duffy, the first man to beat McGregor in 2010, argues Paul is the closest thing the Irishman will get to an easy knock over.
The retired UFC lightweight reckons his former opponent should try and silence the millionaire vlogger before making some noise in the octagon.

Duffy told SunSport: “Going away from MMA, even Jake Paul is ring time.
“He could go in, destroy this guy, a complete and utter clown, go in and make a millions.
“He could come back, have ring time and go and tee off on someone in the UFC.

“It’s not a bad shout, it’s the easiest money and the closest to a tune-up fight that he’s going to get so that makes the most sense in terms of his career.

“He can get comfortable in just competing, I know it’s not the octagon but he can come back to that, it makes a bit more sense in my head.”
Paul’s pursuit of McGregor – who lost his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in 2017 – has so far been greeted with contempt.
The 2-0 internet sensation was barely acknowledged by the former two-weight UFC champion, but was described as ‘a confused little kid’.
Paul, 24, has instead moved on and announced he will fight ex-UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, on April 17.
Meanwhile McGregor, 32, is left with a rebuilding job having lost for the third time in the octagon.
The questions posed now are the same as when he was beaten for the first time in the UFC by Nate Diaz in March 2016.
McGregor responded emphatically, avenging defeat five months later to redeem himself, even closing out the year by winning the lightweight title.

It salvaged his reputation and his ability to come back from adversity even enhanced his marketability.
But, a loss to Poirier in an immediate rematch, which would be the decider in their trilogy, would be catastrophic for McGregor’s road back to supremacy.
Duffy, 32, said: “I think that’s the reality, as harsh as it is.
“I do feel like he needs a good fight and he needs a win if he wants to carry on his career at the top in MMA.
“I think to a degree it kind of is like that, Dustin’s had so many fights and came back, same with the likes of Michael Bisping.
“But it all depends on how Conor bounces back now, because his stock is so high it changes the game.”

YouTuber Jake Paul will fight ex-UFC star Ben Askren in boxing match dashing hopes of mega-money Conor McGregor bout

JAKE PAUL will fight former UFC star Ben Askren in a boxing ring on April 17.
The YouTuber has spent months calling out Conor McGregor – but the Irishman’s defeat to Dustin Poirier at the weekend saw Paul change his focus.

Now the brash 24-year-old American will lace up the boxing gloves for his third pro fight.
In the opposite corner will be Askren, a former Bellator and ONE Welterweight Champion before joining UFC.
It will be Askren’s first pro boxing fight.
The clash will be the headliner for Triller’s next offering in the US – with a venue still to be decided.

The company of course hosted Mike Tyson’s spectacular return to boxing when he drew with Roy Jones Jr in December.
Paul featured on the card as he battered NBA star Nate Robinson in an embarrassingly one-sided scrap.
Paul, who downgraded his $50million offer to Conor McGregor to ‘$10,000 cash’ folling the Poirier defeat, posted the news on his Twitter account.
He released a lengthy statement in which he promised to knock Askren out in the first round and ‘add him to the meme collection’.

Speaking to ESPN about the fight, Askren said: “I know Jake Paul is enjoying pretending he is a fighter.
“I think on April 17 he is going to have a rude awakening to what being a fighter is really like.
“Jake has led a privileged life and doesn’t really know what the meaning of being a fighter is.
“I’m going to put his dreams to an end.”
The 36-year-old has an MMA record of 19 wins and just two defeats.
The losses came against Jorge Masvidal and last time out against Demian Maia in October 2019 in UFC.
