Mob boss Daniel Kinahan hints at involvement in Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua clash after BBC investigation

DANIEL KINAHAN has revealed he remains in the world of boxing despite claims he heads a notorious cartel.
The Irishman has stressed that he has no convictions despite being named in Irish courts and a BBC Panorama documentary as involved in crime.

Tyson Fury has previously thanked Kinahan and his MTK Global management group for help in advising his career.
And, on Monday, the 43-year-old insisted that his record is clean amid his continued involvement in sport.
That could potentially include a role in the upcoming Joshua-Fury unification fight, but reports of the Gypsy King splitting from the controversial mastermind emerged last year.
In a statement released to talkSPORT, Kinahan said: “I have tried my best to ignore the allegations that are constantly made about me.

“I have dedicated myself to my work in boxing for over 15 years.
“I have started from the bottom and worked my way up. I am proud to say today that I have helped organise over a dozen major world title fights.
“I continue to be involved in planning multiple record-breaking and exciting world title fights: I’m doing all I can to give fight fans around the world the fights they want.
“My professional commitment is always to the boxers, those who take the ultimate risk.”

BET OF THE DAY: GET THE BEST FOOTBALL PRICES ON THE MARKET WITH OUR EXPERT ADVICE

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents British champ Joshua, has insisted that the Panorama documentary will have ‘no impact’ on talks over a summer showdown with Fury.
The Dubai-based Kinahan hit back at claims made in the BBC report.
He added: “Media outlets link my name with criminality unconnected to me.
“I am not involved in any proceedings therefore I am unable to challenge this in court.
“The media know this yet they refuse to acknowledge it. There is no evidence or proof against me. I have said repeatedly: I have no criminal record anywhere in the world.
“Sections of the media ask that I disprove a negative. This is impossible but it shows what I’m up against.”

During the Panorama investigation, Ireland’s Assistant Garda Commissioner John O’Driscoll stated his intention to bring those involved in the cartel before the courts.
He said: “I think it is reasonable to assume that we will achieve our ultimate objective which is to put the Kinahan organised crime group out of business, and to bring the hierarchy of the crime group before the courts.”
O’Driscoll refused to comment on the prospect of Daniel Kinahan being among those questioned.
He added: “I’m not going to speak about any particular individual, but whoever happens to be in the hierarchy.”

Eddie Hearn says he was ‘a little surprised’ by the uproar over Daniel Kinahan being praised by Tyson Fury More

Mike Tyson admits to robbing girls like his 12-year-old daughter when he was young and says ‘my kids are better than me’

MIKE TYSON claimed he ‘used to rob’ children just like his 12-year-old daughter when he was growing up.
The legendary heavyweight, who is set to fight old rival Evander Holyfield next, claimed ‘my kids are better than me’.

Tyson has two children with wife Lakiha Spicer including his 12-year-old daughter Milan.
Speaking during his podcast with Devin Haney, he admitted he used to rob girls just like her.
The 54-year-old, who has fathered eight kids, said: “My kids are better than me now.
“Right now, my kids are better than me. Because my daughter, she is 12, I was locked up at 12.

“And she is a smart a** at 12. Spoilt, have everything. I used to rob children like that.
“Now, I raise children like that. Life is great.”
Tyson was raised in Brownsville, a neighbourhood rife with crime, and he didn’t know his biological father Purcell Tyson.
His stepdad Jimmy Kirkpatrick walked out on him and his family soon after he was born.

Before he had turned 13, Tyson had been arrested around 38 times and was sent to a juvenile home called Tryson school for boys.
Tyson weighed in at a whopping 14st when he had his first ever fight at the age of 13.
He knocked out his 17-year-old opponent which sparked a huge brawl in the ring.
Footage shows him knocking out an opponent in just eight seconds when he was 15 years old.
Lennox Lewis described teenage Tyson as a ‘giant’ who was ‘knocking people out easy’.
He battled drug addictions during his career and he was convicted of rape and thrown behind bars in 1992.
But the reformed fighter is delighted that his kids – who have become addicted to boxing – live a different life to the one he did.

Anthony Joshua ‘dropped in sparring by little-known US heavyweight Joey Dawejko’ according to Manny Pacquiao’s coach

ANTHONY JOSHUA was ‘dropped’ in sparring by little-known US heavyweight Joey Dawejko, according to Manny Pacquiao’s coach Justin Fortune.
The Aussie, who will corner the Filipino upon his return to the ring this year, was asked for his take on the upcoming heavyweight unification bout between AJ and Tyson Fury.

AJ sparred with little-known heavyweight Joey Dawejko

Fortune, left, didn’t hold back when asked about the fight

And he didn’t hold back when quizzed by Elie Seckbach.
Asked who would win the fight, Fortune, 45, said: “Fury.
“Joshua is tall. Fury is taller, and he is much more experienced.
“Fury is an octopus, and he will talk s*** in your ear for twelve rounds.

“And Fury’s got a better chin than Joshua.
“He got up from Deontay Wilder’s devastating right hand. Dawejko dropped Joshua.”
The claim was rubbished at the time by AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn, however.
The Matchroom promoter told IFL TV: “A journalist messaged me the next day, ‘We heard he got knocked out by Agit Kabayel’. I said Agit Kabayel wasn’t in the camp.

“They said, ‘Who else did he spar with?’ I said he sparred with Joey Dawejko. [They said] ‘Oh, Joey Dawejko knocked him out’.
FRIDAY NIGHT POKER: Play TONIGHT at 8pm to win a share of $5,500

“I’m not in camp. I speak to AJ, I speak to Rob [McCracken], I speak to all the people. No [he wasn’t knocked out], not at all. They had two spars. Not at all.
“How many times has AJ had a fight where the rumours are he’s been dropped in camp?

He’s not the kind of guy who would sort of deny or hide from it
    Eddie Hearn

“Every fight. And actually the only one that when you speak to AJ he talks about is David Price dropped him in sparring.
“And actually he’s not the kind of guy who would sort of deny or hide from it.”
Dawejko, 30, possesses a 20-8 record in his career, but has lost four of his last five fights.
His last bout came in March last year, when he was beaten by Frank Sanchez by unanimous decision.

Conor McGregor’s team-mate says Jake Paul fight ‘would be very dangerous’ for YouTuber as UFC star might ‘lose control’

CONOR McGREGOR’S team-mate warned the UFC star might ‘lose control’ if he fought Jake Paul and make it ‘very dangerous’ for the YouTuber.
Social media sensation Paul, 2-0 as a boxer, has tirelessly chased a boxing match with former UFC champion McGregor.

He even claimed to have a $50million cheque waiting to go, as he also directed insults to the Irishman’s fiancee Dee Devlin.
McGregor’s training partner Frans Mlambo doubts any amount of money could convince the superstar into facing Paul.
But if he did, the internet phenomenon has been told if the foul-mouthed tirades continue, he will be made to pay for his words.
Mlambo told SunSport: “I thought the whole thing was ridiculous.

“Conor would try and make an example out of him. Conor is rich and all but he’s still one of the boys and he doesn’t take s***.
“He’s obviously grown now, he’s a father and a family man but maybe he’s staying out of the whole thing for everybody’s safety.
“He’d lose control if he went into those situations.

“If the fight actually happened and Jake Paul was talking all this garbage leading up to it, it would be very dangerous Conor in that ring.
“It would make a load of other people a load of money and that’s why people will be pushing for it, but it is something that should not happen.”
Paul, 24, has two knockout wins to his name, but only against internet rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson.
He fights former UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, next on April 17, after goading McGregor by changing his offer to just $10,000.
The Dublin southpaw, 32, made his ring debut in 2017, losing to all-time great Floyd Mayweather, 43, banking around £100m in doing so.
But Mlambo is not confident any sum could entice aspiring billionaire McGregor into fighting viral vlogger Paul and entertaining the antics that comes with it.

He said: “For 50million I’d fight anybody, it would literally never not make sense, I’d fight Goliath.
“But Conor’s in a total different position that $50m might not be worth the effort, the rigamarole of going through the WWE-entertainment style leading up to the fight.
“I feel like if he went into the Jake Paul thing he might be looking at it as more of a show more than anything else.
“It might not even be worth the money to him, just my view knowing what I know about Conor.”
Mlambo, a Bellator featherweight, would prefer to see his sparring partner rematch Dustin Poirier immediately.
McGregor was knocked out by Poirier at UFC 257, just under seven years after doing the same to the American.
The pair are now tied at one apiece and already talking up a trilogy.

It has also forced McGregor to shelve his proposed mega-money boxing return against 42-year-old Manny Pacquiao.
But Mlambo has backed his Straight Blast Gym gym-mate to bounce back in the UFC before entertaining a switch to the ring again.
He explained: “The Manny Pacquiao fight is an entertaining one and I’m sure it would make more money than any UFC one.
“So in that may I’d go for it but the loss to Poirier would be eating at Conor and I reckon he’d be trying to get into the octagon straight away to mend that.

“Since there’s a loss, it wouldn’t even be a distraction it just wouldn’t make sense to do the Pacquiao fight right now.
“Think of the promotion, it would be known he’s going in to fight one of the biggest boxers on the planet and he’s coming off a bad loss.
“He should put the Manny Pacquiao thing on pause right now, go back into the cage, take out a few lads and then we can talk about that.”

Dillian Whyte forced to switch training camp to Spain as coronavirus wreaks havoc before must-win Povetkin rematch

DILLIAN WHYTE is uprooting his Alexander Povetkin rematch camp from Portugal to Spain to beat Covid-19.
One month out from the Body Snatcher’s must-win rerun with the dangerous Russian veteran, Portugal, where his personal training base is, has been placed on the UK’s travel red list.

After February 14, anyone arriving from Portugal will be forced to quarantine in a government approved hotel for ten days – which would be a nightmare for the 32-year-old.
Team Whyte and promoter Eddie Hearn have looked at holding the March 6 bout abroad, but the best solution now seems to be relocating to Spain and then transferring straight to London for the pay-per-view clash.
Hearn said: “It looks like he’s going to move his camp, probably to Spain. At the moment, the ruling is he would have to come ten days before the fight.

“I expect, within the elite-athlete exemption, he would be allowed to effectively isolate in the bubble, away from everyone else in the bubble, and we would create his little isolation area.

“But that hasn’t been approved yet by the government so he has to either come on February 14, I believe that’s the day before that government isolation kicks in, or he has to move his camp.
“I think it’s likely he will move to Spain and isolate there in camp and then he will fly from Spain once he’s done his ten days or whatever.
“We were looking at staging the event internationally but I believe logistically and with everything in order we can follow the regulations and stage it in London and that’s where we’d rather do it.”
SunSport understands some of Whyte’s preferred sparring partners have been unable to join his camp due to the travel concerns, but experienced Olympian Eric Pfeifer has been on hand for hard practice rounds.

Whyte was knocked out by Povetkin last August, losing his mandatory position with the WBC, and was denied a November rematch when the former world champ contracted coronavirus.
So he needs a perfect build-up and convincing win to get his own world title targets back in sight and the training disruption is not enough for the fight to be delayed again.

“Sparring’s fine but it’s not been easy,” Hearn confirmed. “And Dillian loves his set up in Portugal.
“It’s quite disruptive for him to move it so he wasn’t over the moon about having to move to Spain to another camp facility there, but unfortunately there’s not a lot of ways around it.
“He has to stick to that date, it’s unmovable, so we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do and he’s got to go and get the win.”

Eddie Hearn begs Billy Joe Saunders to quit social media before he costs himself career-defining Canelo Alvarez bout

EDDIE HEARN has pleaded with social media menace Billy Joe Saunders to put down his phone before he does some serious damage.
The two-weight world champion is on the cusp of confirming an overdue career-defining fight with pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez for May 8.

Legend Canelo Alvarez beat Callum Smith last time outCredit: Handout – Getty

But he spent last week more focused on fighting online, with spiteful posts about retired world champ Barry McGuigan and a mocking dismissal of the death threat made against a BBC journalist investigating links between Saunders’ management firm and an alleged crime boss.
So his Matchroom promoter hopes he logs out of his accounts – or hands over his password – because he cannot babysit the 31-year-old southpaw master any longer.
Hearn said: “I think Billy should just delete social media really. It’s difficult because I think sometimes, and he’s brought a lot of it on himself, he’s portrayed a certain way and that doesn’t help him.
“He also finds it difficult to express his feelings and what he means when he’s trying to justify himself.

“Ultimately, all being well, Billy Joe Saunders is fighting Canelo Alvarez in one of the biggest fights of the year and the rest is over to him.
“I can’t babysit him, I can’t hold his hand. That’s it. That’s it for him. He either becomes a legend of British boxing that night or loses his world championship.
“The stage of me holding his hand and trying to guide him through how to behave on social media and how not to behave, it’s gone too far for that now.
“Not because of his reputation but it’s too late in the day to change Billy Joe Saunders. He is what he is. He’s an outstanding fighter so let’s see how outstanding he is. On May 8, we’ll find that out.”

Saunders is one of the most naturally gifted boxers Britain has ever produced but his actions outside of the ring have cost him.
The Hatfield ace has been hit with fines by the British Boxing Board of Control over his conduct and, after he gatecrashed a London press conference to promote Canelo vs Gennady Golovkin I in 2017, the Mexican vowed to never furnish him with a mega-money fight.
But now undefeated Saunders holds the WBO super-middleweight crown, Canelo is willing to pay him to make him pay.

Let’s get Billy Joe Saunders doing what he’s good at – fighting. And not having to explain himself or getting the hump with people.
    Eddie Hearn

And Hearn hopes Canelo is too focused on his own boxing dominance to worry about Saunders’ trolling.
He said: “I don’t think Canelo Alvarez knows anything that’s gone on with Billy Joe Saunders. He probably doesn’t even know.
“All he’s thinking is he wants his belt and he’s one of the top two super-middleweights in the world, so he wants to fight him.

“I just want to focus on how good that fight is. That, along with AJ against Fury, is fight of the year, so let’s get it made.
“Let’s get Billy Joe Saunders doing what he’s good at, which is fighting.
“And not having to explain himself or getting the hump with people. He just has to go out there and try and beat the pound-for-pound No 1.”

Anthony Joshua tipped to score stunning upset KO victory over Tyson Fury by old opponent as fight announcement looms

The fleet-footed Fury has been tipped by many to run rings around unified heavyweight champion Joshua, who will likely go into their meeting as a huge underdog.
But Molina, who was stopped by AJ five years ago, reckons The Gypsy King could end up being KO’d by the Olympic gold medallist.
He told iFL TV: “I can see Anthony Joshua knocking out Tyson Fury. I can see that happening.
“If you look at Tyson Fury, he does some things similar to me defensively against Wilder, which was to stay away from one or two big shots.

“I’ve always had my strength of when I sparred big punchers, I’ve always said bring me the bigger punchers because I could see one, two, or three shots.
“I could get a read. Wilder gives you a big read like [winding up].

“He’s coming hard, but he’s giving me all that. So by the time I see that, I’m moving. I’m not just going to stand there.

“The ones that stand there like this [covering up] against Wilder, you’re going to get hurt.
“I already knew that I wasn’t just going to pick my gloves up to take a shot like that.
“The same way Tyson Fury does not do that. What Joshua does, he doesn’t give you that boom.
“He’s very fluid with his punches. He comes with three, four, five, maybe even a six.”

Negotiations over the blockbuster showdown are set to set to come to an end within the next fortnight.
And Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is hoping to officially announce the biggest fight in the history of British boxing later this month.
He said: “We’ve sent a draft contract, they’ve sent some minor changes – nothing too big, so again we’re moving in the right direction.
“I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said ‘the next two weeks’, but the next two weeks we hope for an official announcement and then we go out and decide where this thing will take place.”

Deontay Wilder’s axed coach hits out at American’s wild conspiracy theories after Tyson Fury loss

DEONTAY WILDER’s former coach Mark Breland has slammed the American’s wild conspiracy theories following his loss to Tyson Fury.
The former WBC heavyweight champion axed Breland for throwing in the towel in the seventh round of his showdown with Tyson Fury last February.

Wilder levelled several accusations Breland’s way following the fight and suggested the 57-year-old may have spiked his water before the bout.
The Bronze Bomber’s claims baffled Breland, who told The Fight is Right podcast: “I mean, so many people know me, my character speaks for itself.
“Spiked the water? If you’re looking at the tapes or whatever, you don’t ever see that water in my hand. Someone else is giving him the water.
“And regardless of that, I’m there to help you. My attitude is, ‘When you win, I win.’

“I’ve seen some foolish people talking to me about that fight.

Following the first defeat of his professional career, Wilder accused Fury’s team of tampering with The Gypsy King’s gloves before the fight.

That suggestion amused Breland, who said: “I doubt it very much, I don’t know, I never seen nothing.
“But still at the same time – he’s not gonna beat Tyson Fury regardless.
“Jay Deas was standing right there when the man was getting his hands wrapped. If they put something in there, either Jay’s blind or..?
“Jay’s right there when he’s getting his hands wrapped and he didn’t say nothing.

“But to be honest, that’s how much he knows about boxing.
“Hell, he probably could’ve put a cast up in there and he wouldn’t have known!”
Former WBA welterweight champion Breland reckons defeat to Fury has ended Wilder’s days as a top contender in the heavyweight division.
He said: “His career is done now, I’m done and he’s done, I’m done with him.

“He’s got a lot of power but that’s all, I wish him well and that’s it.
“He’s only got his power and we’ll see how far that takes him. That’s all I’m going to say.
“I’d been working with him since he turned pro and nothing had happened until [the defeat].
