Conor McGregor’s team-mate doubts even $50m would convince UFC star to entertain a fight with ‘troll’ YouTuber Jake Paul

CONOR McGREGOR’S team-mate doubts even $50million would convince him to entertain a fight with ‘troll’ YouTuber Jake Paul.
Paul, 2-0 in his professional career which started in 2020, has continued to pursue a boxing match with McGregor and claimed to have a cheque ready to go.

The internet sensation, who has 20MILLION subscribers, even went after the Irishman’s fiancee Dee Devlin.
Paul’s viral goading took a turn in January after McGregor was knocked out by Dustin Poirier, and taunted that his offer now stood at just $10,000.
But Frans Mlambo, a long-time training partner of McGregor’s, reckons the original $50m still would not persuade the aspiring billionaire into the fight.
The Bellator featherweight predicts the former two-weight UFC champion would not have the patience to deal with the antics Paul brings with him.

Mlambo told SunSport: “He’s just such a troll, he gets to you.
“It’s fun for people, all the madness, he’s good at doing that stuff so fair play to him but at the same time it does not make sense for him to fight Conor.
“When I was watching all that I never usually get into it but it actually annoyed me so much that I wanted to ring Conor and say, ‘Conor, let me fight this guy’.
“For $50m I’d fight anybody, it would literally never not make sense, I’d fight Goliath. But Conor’s in a total different position.

“That $50m might not be worth the effort, the rigamarole of going through the WWE-entertainment style leading up to the fight.
“I feel like if he went into the Jake Paul thing he might be looking at it as more of a show more than anything else.
“It might not even be worth the money to him, just my view knowing what I know about Conor.”
McGregor, 32, has already set his sights on a trilogy bout with Poirier, also 32, the man he first KO’d in 2014.
He too shelved a mega-money return to the ring to face Manny Pacquiao, 42, four years after losing his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather, 43.
But lacing up the gloves for Paul, 24, has never been in McGregor’s sights, barley even acknowledging him.
The American vlogger has two knockouts to his name, against online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA star Nate Robinson.
Paul is now set to face retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, in his third pro bout, scheduled for April 17.

Askren has enjoyed some back-and-forth with his rival as he prepares to come to fight in the boxing ring for the first time.
But Mlambo admitted McGregor would have no self-restraint with Paul.
And he warned for the ‘everybody’s safety’ the pair – who have vastly contrasting fighting experience – should be kept far apart from each other.
Mlambo explained: “Conor would try and make an example out of him. Conor is rich and all but he’s still one of the boys and he doesn’t take s***.
“He’s obviously grown now, he’s a father and a family man but maybe he’s staying out of the whole thing for everybody’s safety.
“He’d lose control if he went into those situations.
“If the fight actually happened and Jake Paul was talking all this garage leading up to it, it would be very dangerous Conor in that ring.
“It would make a load of other people a load of money and that’s why people will be pushing for it, but it is something that should not happen.”

Deontay Wilder was ‘untrainable’ and coaches had to keep criticism to themselves or feel ‘his wrath’, says Mark Breland

DEONTAY WILDER’S sacked trainer Mark Breland has sensationally labelled the deposed heavyweight champ ‘untrainable’ in an extraordinary rant.
Breland, 57, was axed from Team Wilder following the American’s battering at the hands of Tyson Fury last year.

It was Breland who threw the towel in as Wilder was taught a boxing lesson by the Gypsy King to suffer his first ever loss.
Wilder has since accused Breland of ‘spiking his water’ and accused him of betraying him.
In a lengthy post shared on Instagram, Breland, who had 39 fights as a pro winning 35, described that as a ‘ludicrous allegation’ and ‘outlandish and ridiculous’.
He also opened up on what life was like in Wilder’s training camp in what is sure to stoke the fires between the pair still further.

Breland wrote: “I’ll use my own platform since I’ve been ‘opened like a can of sardines’.
“Deontay had become untrainable because he was at the point of ‘he knows more about boxing than all of us’.
“So teaching a correct jab was not a priority to learn once he continues on his knockout streak. So a coach can only teach someone if they’re willing to learn.
“We would wait for the champ hours before he arribed at the gym and Jay [Deas, Wilder’s manager] would inform us of his mood.

“If he had a bad day we had to ‘be quiet’ to not be on the receiving end of ‘his wrath’ in an effort to not be ‘fired’.
Breland added that Wilder didn’t fancy doing much cardio with ‘running not high on the list for him’.
Former WBC king Wilder was hurt by Breland’s blistering rant about his boxing career being ‘done’ and can’t fathom why he’s turned on him
But Breland has now moved to state that he meant his working relationship with Wilder was ‘done’ and not the boxer’s career.
He finished the statement by adding that he ‘won’t be speaking about it anymore’.

Fury won by TKO after Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round to stop the systematic beating – with many boxing fans believing the deposed champ was ‘concussed’.
The American was furious with the decision – but no-one inside the MGM Grand would have any arguments on a sensational night for Fury and British sport.
Even two of the judges who had come in for some stick before they had even started their night’s work gave EVERY ROUND to the Gypsy King.
The other kindly threw the second Wilder’s way.

Daniel Dubois names Mark Tibbs as trainer to replace axed Martin Bowers after suffering broken eye socket in Joyce loss

DANIEL DUBOIS has confirmed trainer Martin Bowers has been made the scapegoat for his November loss to Joe Joyce.
The 23-year-old heavyweight lost his British title and unbeaten record when The Juggernaut’s brilliant jab cracked a hole in his eye socket and forced him to take a knee and be counted out in the tenth round.

Dubois’ harshest critics accused him of being a quitter who ducked out as soon as the going got tough against the 35-year-old Olympic silver winner.
The young prospect’s supporters argue Peacock Gym boss Bowers should have thrown in the towel to pull him out of the contest, to protect his shattered face and reputation.
The unarguable fall-out is a move into respected Mark Tibbs’ stable – the son of British training legend Jimmy – and a fresh start, with Bowers and brother Tony retaining managerial duties.
Dubois, who hopes to return to the ring in April, said: “I am moving on now with Mark and Jimmy Tibbs as my trainers and I think their experience will really help me, moving forward in my career.

“I want a fresh start and hopefully they can show me things.
“Mark and Jimmy are deep in boxing and have been at world title level with people like Billy Joe Saunders and Dillian Whyte.
“I really need a fresh start and I need to do what is best for me really.
“Martin and Tony did a tremendous job, it was a great few years and I am very grateful, we had a fantastic journey.”

Dubois has not had to have surgery or any of the steel plates Kell Brook had to rebuild his shattered orbital bones after similar injuries.
But he insists the pain he felt shooting through his face was enough to make the 17st powerhouse fold to the canvas and surrender the lead he had on two of the judges’ scorecards.
“You have to feel that pain to understand it,” he said.
“I felt that final shot come and I felt my eye go and took the knee.
“I didn’t even think about the fight then, I took a knee, maybe it was inexperience, maybe I panicked, it just happened at that moment.
“The pain happened and I was discombobulating, I panicked and took a knee.
“But I am not going to let this hold me back, I want to come back and improve.”

Aside from the keyboard warriors online, some of Dubois’ most ruthless criticism came from his fellow fighters.
Some, like fellow Brit heavyweight Dillian Whyte, he might be able to get revenge on one day inside the ring.
Others, like super-featherweight Carl Frampton, he will just have to defy with his comeback performances.
He said: “When I come back I will see those people and maybe even get in the ring with some of them, to show me how much of a quitter I am.
“I have to set things right, I need to iron out some flaws but I don’t think I am too far off.

“It has made me want it even more and made me stronger. I won’t let this break me. I will train even harder and be even more disciplined.
“It was a massive set back for me and I have to take on board the positives and negatives.
“Now I want to vent my frustrations out in the gym and get myself back on course. I want to start afresh again, like I have just turned professional again.”

Floyd Mayweather can make Logan Paul fight ‘dangerous’ if he wants to as Oleksandr Usyk backs money-making showdown

FLOYD MAYWEATHER can make his fight with YouTuber Logan Paul ‘dangerous’ if he chooses to, according to Oleksandr Usyk.
The Ukrainian heavyweight, 34, revealed his backing for the money-spinning exhibition fight between the social media sensation and the pound for pound king.

But even Paul has admitted the clash makes ‘no f****** sense’ with the 25-year-old six inches taller and likely to come in FOUR STONE heavier than Money Mayweather, 43, when it eventually gets to fight after their February bout was postponed.
And when asked if the strange match-up could cause either of the participants harm, Usyk exclusively told SunSport: “As for whether it is dangerous, I think that if a boxer relaxes and gets hit it may be dangerous for him.
“Mayweather should be composed and play his game until the end.
“If he wants to it may be dangerous and if he doesn’t it will be okay.”

The fight is set to allow proper KO blows with unbeaten Mayweather said to be taking it ‘very seriously’ despite his opponent having LOST his only professional contest to English internet star KSI.
Many have called the 2021 fight a farce but Anthony Joshua’s WBO heavyweight mandatory challenger Usyk is not one of the naysayers, describing it merely as ‘business’.
Usyk added: “I think it is just business because Floyd Mayweather has made a name for himself, he has gone to the top of his career, so now everybody wants to box the champions.
“Nobody wants to spar with a random guy from the street. Everybody wants to fight the champions.

“There is a lot of money for them in it, so why not? It is great if they are making money this way.”

How Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul compare ahead of their fight

Usyk is chasing a fight with AJ but has also hinted he may be willing to step aside to allow a unification bout with Tyson Fury to go ahead.
And the unbeaten former unified cruiserweight champ has namechecked Deontay Wilder when discussing his future opponents.
When asked if he would ever consider a YouTube showdown himself, Usyk kept his options open by replying: “I would have to wait and see until such a proposal comes my way.”

Five sparring partners for Anthony Joshua to help practise for Tyson Fury’s bizarre and unusual style and height

ANTHONY JOSHUA faces the tallest of orders in tracking down training partners to mimic giant maverick Tyson Fury.
When AJ was toppled by tiny chubster Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, he had spent five months planning to fight 6ft 4in juggernaut Jarrell Miller, only for the compulsive drug cheat to blow his shot six weeks out.

Tyson Fury poses a unique challenge for AJCredit: PA:Press Association

The stumpy yet speedy Mexican was drafted in at late notice and stunned the world but Team AJ got it right the second time around with specific sparring partners to mimic Ruiz Jr’s size and style.
It was not easy to find 5ft 10in fighters, weighing around 19st, with deceptively fast hands, but the brains behind the scenes like Rob McCracken and David Ghansa flew guys in from Germany and America to perfectly prepare Joshua for rematch revenge.
But finding anyone 6ft 9in, let alone someone who can fight in either stance, with the footwork of a man half his size and an encyclopedic boxing brain, is a very different challenge.
SunSport asked Ben Davison, the trainer who guided Fury back from a mental health breakdown to an iconic draw with Deontay Wilder, who he would scout if in AJ’s corner and he puffed out his cheeks and admitted AJBoxing has a fight on their hands.

    Ivan Dychko

Dychko fought Joe Joyce at the 2016 OlympicsCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd
As well as sounding like a Rocky baddie, Dychko is the real deal in terms of Fury Faking It.
The powerhouse is 6ft 9in, the same as the Gypsy King, and is talented enough to have won bronze at two Olympics.
AJ knows the Kazakh too, having beaten him in the semi-finals of the London 2012 games, so hopefully there are no hard feelings if he does reach out.
FIVE SPARRING PARTNERS FOR TYSON FURY

The 30-year-old is not just a beanpole with a pair of gloves either, as an amateur he scored wins over Efe Ajagba, Mahammadrasul Majidov and Zhilei Zhang.
Since turning pro in 2017, Dychko has made America his home and reached 9-0 so he might still be up for some elite sparring. The issue would be flying him over.
    Robert Helenius

Robert Helenius, seen here against Chisora, poses a tall target for any fighter that faces himCredit: EPA
The Finland giant is 6ft 7in and has proven to be almost as unpredictable as Tyson Fury at times.
He was gifted a criminal win over Derek Chisora for the European title in 2011, in his Helsinki home, and stunk out Cardiff when he ran away from Dillian Whyte for 12 rounds in 2017.
But his shock March KO win over highly rated Adam Glownacki smashed his career back on track – almost in the same style in which Fury suddenly had the power to demolish Deontay Wilder after a career as a stick-and-mover.
That win, however, has shoved Helenius up the WBA’s rankings and he might be too close to AJ for them to share friendly practice rounds.
But if the trip over from Finland is smooth enough then the pair might become training buddies.
    Otto Wallin

Otto Wallin bloodied Tyson Fury back in 2019Credit: Getty Images – Getty
If the Swede who slashed 47 stitches into Tyson Fury’s face in 2019 is still in Europe, he might be able to offer the Watford man some much-needed southpaw sparring.
The 6ft 5in 30-year-old is shorter than Fury but he was not dwarfed by the undefeated ace when they went the distance in Vegas and he will have Fury’s best tricks fresh in his mind.
Joshua also knows Wallin from a 2011 amateur fight that went the Brit’s way and, if he gets through a February 20 fight with AJ victim Dominic Breazeale, he could offer some crucial leftie sparring.
    Hughie Fury

Hughie Fury is unlikely to cross the family divideCredit: Alamy
The chances of Tyson’s little cousin crossing the family divide and helping AJ for a fight with his own flesh and blood is none-to-impossible but there are few people on the planet who could ape Tyson better.
Hughie’s dad Peter was the man who guided Tyson’s early career and they share the same switch-hitting style that can leap from sublime to infuriating in nanoseconds.
Tyson, Hughie and Peter seemed inseparable leading up to the brilliant 2015 win over Wladimir Klitschko.
But Tyson quit their Bolton gym for his comeback and the wounds do not seem to have heeled.
However, so strong is the Traveller code, that even AJ’s call might go unanswered at that Fury household.
    David Price

The Price could be right for AJCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
Stylistically, the 6ft 8in self-doubting Scouser and mesmerizing Gypsy showman could not be more different.
But they share similar dimensions and Fury’s last performance proved he might now have the sort of booming right hand that could be compared to the Price equaliser he sadly failed to land at crucial times of his career.
Fury and Price, 37, are old and bitter rivals, after the Liverpool man won a 2006 amateur bout and went to the 2008 Olympics ahead of his Morecambe rival but his career has been a painful disappointment.
But Price remains the last Englishman to beat Fury so he might be able to hand the 31-year-old vital pointers.

Amir Khan calls Daniel Kinahan ‘one of the nicest guys I’ve met’ as he praises impact mob boss has had on boxing

AMIR KHAN has called Daniel Kinahan ‘one of the nicest guys I’ve met’ as he hailed the impact he’s had on boxing.
The Olympic silver medallist believes Kinahan has been a force for good in the sport despite him being the subject of an investigative documentary by the BBC.

Khan tweeted this in response to Kinahan’s statement to Talksport

He said: “I’ve known Daniel for sometime, I have huge respect for what he’s doing for boxing.
“We need people like Dan to keep the sport alive. One of the nicest guys I’ve met.”
Khan was responding to Kinahan sharing a lengthy statement today via Talksport.
In it, Kinahan rejected any involvement in one of the BBC’s team being sent a death threat after the programme went to air.

    NOTHING TO DO WITH IT
He said: “Last week it was inferred that I had threatened a reporter. Let me be clear on this point before I address the other allegations against me.
“I have full respect for journalism. I have worked with journalists and I value their role.
“Journalists should always be free to do their job, free from any threat or harassment.
“I have never threatened a reporter or journalist or asked anyone to do that for me. I never have and I never would.”

    REMAINS A KEY PLAYER
Kinahan, who has no criminal convictions but has been named in the Dublin High Court as a controller and manager of a crime cartel, also confirmed he is still actively organising world title fights.
This was at odds with his previous declaration that he had stepped away from the sport in the wake of the furore of Tyson Fury thanking him on social media for getting his upcoming superfight with Anthony Joshua ‘over the line.’
He said: “I am proud to say today that I have helped organise over a dozen major world title fights.
“I continue to be involved in planning multiple record-breaking and exciting world title fights: I’m doing all I can to give fight fans around the world the fights they want.” More

But infuriating boxing politics mean the 30-0 ace has just relinquished his hard-earned IBF title to agree major fights with the other champions.
But thanks to the evergreen Portugal and Juventus icon, Warrington’s dedication is far from Q-wavering – even with his financial future secured.
He said: “Lockdown and the big void in sport has made me realise how much I love boxing.
“But I’m not going to be one of those fighters who goes on into their late 30s.

“I’ve been taking inspiration from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
“How has he managed to maintain his level at the top? It’s his mind-set.
“He doesn’t have to do anything, to prove anything to anyone.
“But he’s there and he’s working his wotsits off to be the best.”

Conor McGregor’s team-mate says Jake Paul fight ‘would be very dangerous’ for YouTuber as UFC ace might ‘lose control’

CONOR McGREGOR’S team-mate warned the UFC star might ‘lose control’ if he fought Jake Paul and make it ‘very dangerous’ for the YouTuber.
Social media sensation Paul, 2-0 as a boxer, has tirelessly chased a boxing match with former UFC champion McGregor.

He even claimed to have a $50million cheque waiting to go, as he also directed insults to the Irishman’s fiancee Dee Devlin.
McGregor’s training partner Frans Mlambo doubts any amount of money could convince the superstar into facing Paul.
But if he did, the internet phenomenon has been told if the foul-mouthed tirades continue, he will be made to pay for his words.
Mlambo told SunSport: “I thought the whole thing was ridiculous.

“Conor would try and make an example out of him. Conor is rich and all but he’s still one of the boys and he doesn’t take s***.
“He’s obviously grown now, he’s a father and a family man but maybe he’s staying out of the whole thing for everybody’s safety.

“If the fight actually happened and Jake Paul was talking all this garbage leading up to it, it would be very dangerous Conor in that ring.
“It would make a load of other people a load of money and that’s why people will be pushing for it, but it is something that should not happen.”
Paul, 24, has two knockout wins to his name, but only against internet rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson.
He fights former UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, next on April 17, after goading McGregor by changing his offer to just $10,000.
The Dublin southpaw, 32, made his ring debut in 2017, losing to all-time great Floyd Mayweather, 43, banking around £100m in doing so.
But Mlambo is not confident any sum could entice aspiring billionaire McGregor into fighting viral vlogger Paul and entertaining the antics that comes with it.

He said: “For 50million I’d fight anybody, it would literally never not make sense, I’d fight Goliath.
“But Conor’s in a total different position that $50m might not be worth the effort, the rigamarole of going through the WWE-entertainment style leading up to the fight.
“I feel like if he went into the Jake Paul thing he might be looking at it as more of a show more than anything else.
“It might not even be worth the money to him, just my view knowing what I know about Conor.”
Mlambo, a Bellator featherweight, would prefer to see his sparring partner rematch Dustin Poirier immediately.
McGregor was knocked out by Poirier at UFC 257, just under seven years after doing the same to the American.

It has also forced McGregor to shelve his proposed mega-money boxing return against 42-year-old Manny Pacquiao.
But Mlambo has backed his Straight Blast Gym gym-mate to bounce back in the UFC before entertaining a switch to the ring again.
He explained: “The Manny Pacquiao fight is an entertaining one and I’m sure it would make more money than any UFC one.
“So in that may I’d go for it but the loss to Poirier would be eating at Conor and I reckon he’d be trying to get into the octagon straight away to mend that.

“Since there’s a loss, it wouldn’t even be a distraction it just wouldn’t make sense to do the Pacquiao fight right now.
“Think of the promotion, it would be known he’s going in to fight one of the biggest boxers on the planet and he’s coming off a bad loss.
“He should put the Manny Pacquiao thing on pause right now, go back into the cage, take out a few lads and then we can talk about that.”
