UFC legend Jon Jones tipped to ‘do great’ as a boxer in Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s heavyweight division

FUTURE UFC Hall of Famer Jon Jones would ‘do great’ in boxing if he were to ever compete inside the squared circle.
The former long-reigning light-heavyweight champion has flirted with a transition into the boxing ring in recent years.

Jones, who is currently bulking up in preparation for his long-awaited heavyweight debut, reiterated his willingness to compete against the likes of Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder last June during a since-resolved dispute with the UFC.
And three-division boxing champion Claressa Shields, who has been training with Jones at JacksonWink MMA ahead of her PFL debut in June, believes Bones would take to the sport like a duck to water.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist told SunSport: “He’d do great just because of his work ethic. He’d do great just learning.
“And yeah it’s a big difference, but he’d do great just as long as he [gets the best trainers].

“Just like me, he’s got to get the best trainers for that.”
If Jones, 33, were to pursue a career in boxing, Shields reckons he’d benefit from perfecting the tools of the trade with her own coach – former WBA middleweight champion John David Jackson.

She added: “I think him working with coach John David Jackson would be a dream.

“John David Jackson, he knows how to create fighters. And people always say, ‘Oh he didn’t create me’.
“You’re right. I was a two-time Olympic champion before I got with Coach John David and I was world champ before I got with him.
“But I added some much to my arsenal just being with him. He’s so knowledgable and he’s just made me a better fighter. I’m actually more relaxed.
“I used to be really, really tight when I boxed. But he just let me relax. ‘Let your punches go, use your feints.’

“Some stuff that I had really just got away from because I was so used to going in being the hunter.
“Hunting these girls down, hitting them as hard as I can. And now, we’re working on like, ‘We’re going to make these hard but sneaky.
“‘I want you to be loose and elusive and the head movement.’
“Just some of the stuff that I kind of forgot that I knew how to do, he definitely brought it back out of me. And we’ve added more to it.
“So I think Coach John would be the perfect boxing coach for Jonny Bones.”

Jon Jones is currently putting on size ahead of his eagerly-anticipated heavyweight debut

Although Jones has teased a switch to the boxing world, his sights are seemingly set on becoming a two-division UFC champion.
The New Yorker vacated the light-heavyweight title last August to begin preparations for his eagerly-anticipated move up to heavyweight, which many believe should’ve happened years ago.
A date for his return to the octagon, which he last graced in February 2020, hasn’t been set.
But UFC president Dana White recently revealed the man considered by many to be the greatest mixed martial artist of all time will face the winner of Stipe Miocic’s title defence against France Ngannou next month.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua to be sold in US on King of the Travellers story after Bob Arum inspired by Peaky Blinders

TYSON FURY against Anthony Joshua will be sold in America on the King of the Travellers story after Bob Arum took inspiration from Peaky Blinders.
The Gypsy King has agreed a 50:50 split for a two-fight deal to face AJ in a colossal all-British heavyweight unification match-up – with an official deal close to being revealed.

And Fury’s US promoter Arum believes he can use the Traveller story to sell the fight to Americans – who he says are far less aware of the culture compared to Europe.
Top Rank chief Arum revealed the popular TV show Peaky Blinders – which tells the story of a Birmingham gang run by a family of Irish Traveller origin – has had some traction.
Arum told The Mail: “I’m working on a theme for Joshua-Fury. It takes a lot of time.
“People, particularly in the US, aren’t as aware of the travellers as in the UK or Europe.

We got a taste of it through Peaky Blinders and that story – I’m wrestling with this – of the travellers, and this King of the Travellers.”
    Bob Arum

“The whole essence of being a traveller and how they’re bound to each other.
“We got a taste of it through Peaky Blinders and that story – I’m wrestling with this – of the travellers, and this King of the Travellers.
“There’s something there that I think I can use.”
Joshua has vowed to beat Fury and said ‘I’ll be undisputed’ as an announcement surrounding a mega £200million fight draws closer.

But the only man to defeat AJ in the professional ranks, Andy Ruiz Jr, believes fleet-footed WBC champ Fury will get the job done.

Arum revealed smoking marijuana helps him relax from the stresses of promoting boxing’s biggest fights.
The 89-year-old added: “After you’ve been at it as long as I have, you’ve seen everything.
“I control myself now – you don’t really accomplish anything by throwing a temper tantrum.
“Maybe the marijuana helps, I use it a couple of times a week. But the best thing is that I don’t get angry like I used to.
“Unfortunately, there are some people who are consumed by promotion because that’s all they know.

Maybe the marijuana helps, I use it a couple of times a week. But the best thing is that I don’t get angry like I used to.”
    Bob Arum

“I never read about boxing. I read about philosophy and politics, I’m very active in politics. I did a lot of work to help Joe Biden become president.”
Arum divulged that he learned a number of tricks on marketing fights from his work with the legendary late boxer Muhammad Ali.
He said: “Muhammad Ali was a genius. He taught me that whatever adversity you face, use it to promote the event.
“When he first fought Leon Spinks, the press was ferocious: ‘It’s a mismatch!’
“So Ali took a vow of silence. It became a game and the big story of the fight.
“The week before the fight he said: ‘I’m finished…’ the press were so grateful to get a word out of his mouth that they didn’t attack the fight.
“It got a huge audience and guess what? Spinks won.”

‘Robotic’ Anthony Joshua is one of Tyson Fury’s ‘easiest opponents’ and will get KOd in four rounds, says Isaac Lowe

BRITISH featherweight Isaac Lowe has tipped Tyson Fury to knock out Anthony Joshua inside four rounds and claimed it would be one of his easiest fights.
The 27-year-old – who is close friends with the Gypsy King – has stated that AJ is too ‘robotic’ and tires quickly, which will help Fury pick him apart.

Isaac Lowe has backed WBC king Tyson Fury to beat Anthony Joshua inside four rounds

Both heavyweights have agreed a two-fight deal in 2021, with Eddie Hearn revealing their first bout is likely to place in June.
Commenting on the eagerly-anticipated domestic dust-up, Lowe – who has featured on a number of Fury’s recent undercards – has backed his pal to destroy Joshua.
He told Pro Boxing Fans: “I’ve said it from day one, I think Joshua is one of Tyson’s easiest fights.
“Because, he’s robotic, he hasn’t got good feet and when he throws threes and fours he gasses up.

“If you notice when he hurts someone or if he does hurt them, that’s his weakness, he gets caught and he can’t deal with it. I think Tyson will knock him out in the first four rounds, honestly I do.
“[I’ll] just say first five [rounds] I genuinely do. I think when [Wladimir] Klitschko knocked him down and hurt him, Klitschko could’ve got him out of there.
“But with the old age and that maybe he was thinking about his legs and saving them a bit.
“But, if Tyson catches him or hurts him, anything at all he’ll be all over him like a rag doll and he won’t be getting Tyson off.

“Tyson is seven foot tall, 20 stone, 20 stone plus, all over you grabbing you, leaning all over you. He’ll show him who’s the boss.”
The boxing community is divided over who will come out on top between the two.
AJ, 31, hinted on Tuesday that an announcement for the fight is close to being announced following a ‘positive meeting’.
He tweeted: “Another positive meeting with @258mgt.
“They’ve informed me things are shaping up nicely.
“They will be sharing the update with Eddie (Hearn) and you’ll be hearing from me soon.”

Paige VanZant to fight ‘well-known name’ in summer as BKFC chief says ex-UFC star ‘worth everything’ of lucrative deal

PAIGE VANZANT will take on a ‘well-known name’ in her second Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship outing, the promotion’s president Dave Feldman has revealed.
The former UFC strawweight made her BKFC debut earlier this month against Britain Hart, suffering a unanimous decision loss to the pro boxer.

Paige VanZant (R) made her BKFC debut against Britain Hart earlier this month

The former UFC strawweight suffered a unanimous decision loss in her BKFC debut

But the 26-year-old is set to perform a quick turnaround and get back in the ring early in the summer.
Feldman told MMA Fighting: “I can confidently say Paige VanZant absolutely will be back with us here in early to mid-summer.
“100 percent. We are 100 percent in the Paige VanZant business.
“We like being in that business. She delivered for us on every aspect we needed and finished the fight strong so that was very important for us.”

VanZant inked a multi-million-pound deal with BKFC last summer after being released by the UFC following her submission loss to Amanda Ribas.
Despite VanZant coming up short in her promotional bow, Feldman insists BKFC’s acquisition of the American Top Team standout has so far been a success.

He said: “Some people looked at me crazy ‘you’re paying her too much, you’re doing this, you’re doing that.’

“I said, ‘Look I don’t know everything but I know what I’m doing on this stuff and she delivered.’
“She delivered on every aspect that we needed her to deliver on.
“She was worth everything that we gave her and it’s a great partnership.
“She did everything we wanted her to do and we did everything she wanted us to do. We definitely have a win-win relationship.

PVZ will be back in the BKFC ring in the summer

“I said in all my interviews and I said to you, I really take my hat off to her because she didn’t have to do this.
“Now I take my hat off to her even more because she definitely doesn’t have to do this again.
“She’s doing it and she really wants to prove herself and that’s the kind of person that I wanted to be in business with, the kind of person I have a lot of respect for.”
Feldman is looking forward to seeing how PVZ bounces back from her latest setback and fully expects her to level up in her next fight.
He said: “I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do. I think she’s going to adapt a lot more.
“I think she’s really going to take a step up in her next fight.”

TYSON FURY put training ahead of his mouth-watering fight with Anthony Joshua to one side… by stopping off at McDonald’s.

Fury, who once ballooned to 28 stone at the beginning of 2017, was at the wheel with an unknown man in the passenger seat.
Even with the biggest fight of his career just a few months away, the 32-year-old still likes to treat himself to a cheat day.
During the first coronavirus lockdown, Fury admitted he forked out £557 on takeaway pizza.
And recently he told LadBible: “I had a treat day yesterday, actually: a full box of Thornton’s chocolates. I had a Sunday dinner, two bowls of trifle, a McDonald’s triple cheeseburger, two Diet Cokes and a bar of chocolate.”

Standing at 6ft9in and training relentlessly every day, the WBC Champ can afford to polish off a burger and fries on the rare occasion.
Fury has previously shown he has no issue in dropping the pounds after losing a staggering 10 stone to fight Deontay Wilder.
Negotiations for his undisputed bout with Joshua are still ongoing but confirmation is closer than ever.
SunSport understands a July fight in Saudi Arabia, worth in the region of £200million, is the most likely option.

On Tuesday, AJ confirmed he had held a ‘positive meeting’ with his management team.
He wrote: “Another positive meeting with @258mgt.
“They’ve informed me things are shaping up nicely.
“They will be sharing the update with Eddie (Hearn) and you’ll be hearing from me soon.”
His comments were recently echoed by Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn who revealed just minor details in the contract need to be tweaked.
He said: “To be honest with you I don’t really wanna talk about the fight because I keep saying the same thing, don’t I? ‘Two weeks, hopefully it’ll be done’.
“I don’t wanna bore people, but I said to Bob, ‘I’m getting asked about it 20 times a day in interviews, what do you want me to say?’

Tyson’s acquisition of the big cats, Kenya, Storm, and Boris, epitomised his excessive spending habits before he squandered his riches.
And during a recent episode of his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast, the 54-year-old admitted he bought the predators because he wanted to receive love from a wild beast.
He said: “[It was] all down to my insecurities, I guess. I wanted something that ferocious to love me.”
Iron Mike added: “If you look at him and he see you like acting weird, he’s going to kill you. He don’t want you, only wants to be alone.

“And I want that to love me. Exactly, hundred percent.”
Tyson, who returned to the ring last November for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr, arranged to buy his tigers when he serving time in prison for his 1992 rape conviction.

He said: “This is how it happened, I was in prison and I was talking to one of my friends who I bought exotic cars from.

“He was saying a friend he knew owed him money.
“And he said, ‘If he doesn’t pay me any money I’mma take some of these cars and trade them in for some animals.’
“I said, ‘What kind of animals?’ He said, ‘Horses and stuff.
“‘Mike they have some nice tigers and lions too. If you got one of those that would be so cool.’

“I said, ‘Yeah that would be true. Why don’t you order me a couple? I’m getting out in a couple of months.’
“So when I got out I came home and I had two cubs.”
Tyson was forced to get rid of Kenya after she ripped off the arm of a trespasser, who he paid £176,000 following the horrific incident.
He added: “Somebody jumped over my fence where the tiger was and jumped in their habitat and started playing with the tiger.

Mike Tyson had to get rid of one of his tigers after it attacked a trespasser

“And the tiger didn’t know the lady so it was a bad accident. She jumped in the property where the tiger was at.
“They tried to [sue me] until they found out she jumped over the fence and she trespassed the tiger.
“And listen, when I saw what the tiger did to her hand, I had a lot of money back then, so I gave her $250,000 or whatever it was.
“Because she was just f***ed up.”
After putting on an impressive display in his clash with Jones Jr, fan favourite Tyson is set to return to the ring later this year.
