Mike Tyson was ‘karate master’ who used a ‘peekaboo’ style of boxing to become the sport’s most feared fighter

MIKE TYSON was a ‘karate master’ who used a ‘peekaboo’ style of boxing, according to expert Jesse Enkamp.
Iron Mike dominated the heavyweight division during the 1980s and 90s.

Winning his first world title aged just 20, Tyson bamboozled opponents for over a decade, and was known for his ferocious power.
But according to popular karate expert and YouTuber Jesse Enkamp, Iron Mike was also a master of of the martial art.
Enkamp said on his YouTube channel: “To be honest, old school boxing looks very similar to traditional karate, because both are done without any protection (bare-knuckles), and you don’t really use any rules.”
He also added: “As I like to say, don’t be a martial artist… be a ‘smartial’ artist.

“Mike Tyson is a karate master.”
Enkamp enlisted the help of boxing trainer Jay Elder to help his theory.
But Elder didn’t necessarily agree with all of his suggestions.
He said: “That means Tyson’s got to be quicker than the other person because he’s further away (from them), but he’s rolling off his shoulders and his hips to throw.

    “It’s a lot more square.
“He’s incredibly fast, and if you watch he’s just bobbing, rolling and throwing. I’ve never seen that in karate.”
With Enkamp repeatedly needing to be told to keep his head down, Elder adds: “That’s a karate habit, because you want to keep your head back. So the chin is a little bit up.
“That’s a huge difference between karate and boxing.”

He then explains: “Because you kick in karate, you have to have a more upright body.
“You need the space to kick.
“Whereas boxing, I’m not going to throw my legs.
“It’s different. In boxing, you’ve got to almost sit.”

The FOUR undisputed men’s fights that boxing fans could see this year including Anthony Joshua against Tyson Fury

JOSH TAYLOR’S brave bid to travel to America in May to become undisputed super-lightweight world champion should kick off a summer of similar showdowns.
Scotland’s WBA and IBF king goes up against WBC and WBO boss Jose Ramirez on May 22 in an effort to collect all four of the major world titles on offer.

Anthony Joshua is finally set to take on Tyson Fury this summerCredit: Getty Images

With the four money-hungry sanctioning bodies always eager to demand a mandatory defence – like Canelo’s almost pointless win over over-matched Avni Yildirim last weekend – it’s an almost impossible feat to achieve.
Remember when Tyson Fury was stripped of his hard-earned IBF crown barely a few days after incredibly dethroning Wladimir Klitschko – just for agreeing to a rematch with the 11-year-champion?
Or the WBC’s decision to make franchise, emeritus, interim and ‘in-recess’ versions of their world champions, to bag extra coin and confuse waters even further.
But there are a few fights that could happen in 2021 that will be unequivocal deciders on who is the supreme ruler of that division.

    Josh Taylor 17-0 vs Jose Ramirez 26-0 – Super-lightweight
The 30-year-old southpaw Brit has achieved incredible things inside just 17 fights.
Winning the World Boxing Super Series in 2019 – with a fight-of-the-year contender against Regis Prograis, landed him the IBF, WBA and Ring magazine belts and No1 status.
Ramirez refused to enter the tournament but has quietly and respectfully collected the two outstanding belts.

Now the pair will meet to decide who is the best 10st fighter on the planet.
Taylor wants to emulate fellow Edinburgh icon and ex-lightweight king Ken Buchanan by doing it for Scotland.
But Ramirez is a dangerous opponent who will have home advantage.
This fight has been made relatively smoothly because both warriors are promoted by Top Rank and so do not have clashing broadcasters arguing over rights, unlike the next two.
Tyson Fury 30-0-1 vs Anthony Joshua 24-1 – Heavyweight
The 32-year-old Gypsy King has held all four of the major belts but never together.
Right now the 6ft 9in ace has the WBC title and AJ has the WBA, IBF and WBO belts he relinquished when failed drug tests and a mental health breakdown cost him 1000 days out of the ring.
The all-English undisputed clash was announced as a done deal in June – when Fury and AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn spread the good news – but we feel no closer nine months on.
The two-fight deal will be split 50-50 in the first clash and 60-40 to the winner in the second.

But Fury is backed by Top Rank, ESPN and BT Sport and considers himself the star attraction, while AJ is a Matchroom, DAZN and Sky Sports fighter and fancies himself as the A-side of the negotiations.
Apparently the clash will happen in Saudi Arabia in June and should be announced this month.
But Tyson Fury’s most recent interview showed him looking well out of shape, with the undefeated ace insisting the deal was miles off completion.
    Canelo 55-1-2/Billy Joe Saunders 30-0 vs Caleb Plant 21-0 – Super-middleweight
Mexican sensation Saul Alvarez is the biggest star in boxing so everybody – in about five different divisions – wants a career-defining payday against him.
The WBA and WBC titles are currently in the 30-year-old’s possession and he faces brilliant Brit southpaw and WBO champ Saunders on May 8.
The winner of that potential classic will have three of the four major titles and will target American IBF boss Plant next.

Canelo makes even his least-talented opponents mega money so, if he beats the undefeated Hatfields ace, he will have no problem calling Plant and making a deal.
But Saunders is a supremely gifted nightmare for anyone and has only failed to fulfil his dizzying potential through inactivity.
Canelo missed almost all of 2020 thanks to the pandemic and a dispute with his former promoters but he is now a free agent so deals are easily made.
The four-weight king has just won twice inside the last 11 weeks, Saunders will be his third inside four months, and he will target Plant in September if all goes well for him.
    Jermell Charlo 31-1 vs Brian Castano 17-0-1 – Super-welterweight
The 11st division is going through a bit of a dip with plenty of household names either side of the 154lbs class.
Middle and welter are home to mega-money names and champions so the middle ground feels little neglected.

Jermell Charlo is the WBC, IBF and WBA champion at 154lbsCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Charlo has collected the WBC, IBF and WBA titles in his last two fights, having suffered his first and only career defeat at the end of 2018.
Argentina ace Castano clinched the WBO crown last time out, in February, with a unanimous decision win over Patrick Teixeira.
The pressure is on Charlo to take the fight as Castano made his intentions clear after his win last month.

“Charlo, he’s a great fighter,” he said. “But I want this fight. I’m waiting for this fight, I’m ready. I’m waiting for the opportunity.”
Until a major star like Terence Crawford or Errol Spence Jr moves up from welterweight, there is not massive money to be made at 154lbs.
So Charlo and Castano should get their date agreed ASAP to anoint a supreme ruler of the division.

Jake Paul insists he has no remorse over controversial YouTube stunts and has tattoo with ‘no regrets’ on… spelt wrong

JAKE PAUL insists he has regrets over anything he has done – even his misspelt tattoo.
The YouTuber, 24, is currently preparing for his third pro fight as a boxer.

Jake Paul insists he has ‘no regrets’ over anything… even his misspelt tattoo

Rhe social media star also promised to continue ‘stirring up’ the fight game

He beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ before leaving ex-NBA star Nate Robinson out cold in November on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight.
Paul’s next fight is on April 17, facing retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36.
Despite his millions of followers on social media, Paul is very much-maligned in the fight world.
It seems with each passing week that Paul is giving his haters even more fuel to dislike him, but he could not care one jot.

And he told Sun Sport he has zero regrets in his life as he declared his days of being a YouTuber are behind him as he concentrates on his fight career.
Paul to Sun Sport: “I just like to have fun and if something makes me laugh, then I’m gonna do it if I think it’s funny.
“You know, I’ve sort of left the YouTube Jake Paul behind. So I’m not really doing YouTube stuff anymore.
“Everything sort of centred around fighting. And just stirring the pot there. If I want to fight someone, I’m gonna call them out.

“I just want to keep the internet entertaining and juicy and have fun. And that’s how this started for me when I was 10-years-old is picking up the camera and recording stuff that I thought was funny or that was gonna make me laugh. And so I’ve just been doing this my whole life.”
Paul then insisted he would change nothing from his past – even the fact he has a misspelt tattoo.
He added: “I don’t think I have any regrets. I don’t think so.
“I have a tattoo that says no regrets. spelled wrong. So that’s kind of like how I live my life.
“You can’t change the past. So why worry about it?
“You can learn from the past. And I’ve learned a lot from mistakes and stupid things I’ve done and, or great things I’ve done.
“I’ve learned, you know, what people like and what videos do well and all that sort of stuff. So I like to focus on what’s in front of me.”

Jake Paul is cutting no corners with his diet

The American continues to call out some of boxing’s biggest names
He recently became embroiled in a war of words with Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy.
And it appears a potential money-spinning fight could be given the green light after Tommy fell right into his trap.
Paul also launched a verbal attack on four-weight champion Canelo Alvarez by calling him an ‘old hater.’
Canelo, 30, made his thoughts towards the American clear after beating Turkey’s Avni Yildirim on Saturday night.
Two unknown men seemingly wearing Jake Paul T-shirts, were in the shot for his post-fight interview inside the ring.
After quickly realising the duo weren’t part of his team, Canelo told them to ‘get the f*** out of here’.
And that drew a response from Paul who claimed WBA and WBC super-middleweight king Canelo is ducking out of big fights.

Tyson Fury fight with Anthony Joshua ON with agreements all settled and announcement in coming days, reveals Bob Arum

TYSON FURY’S all-British heavyweight unification showdown fight with Anthony Joshua is ON, according to Bob Arum.
The Gypsy King’s American promoter, 89, told IFL TV there are finally no issues left to be resolved in negotiations.

Arum confirmed Fury, 32, and Joshua are now signing their contracts for the fight with an official announcement imminent.
The American claimed: “As far as I’m concerned, all the points have been agreed to.
“That’s what each side has said. Now, we’re just scrambling around to get things signed.
“I can say clearly, based on my view of everything, there are NO more issues.”

Earlier this week, AJ, 31, revealed the fight was close to being given the green light with the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts all be on the line for the first time in heavyweight history.
Joshua even hinted at an early summer showdown date, saying: “June should be the date.
“Trust me. For the fans, for the people that have been calling it on for many, many months.
“Shoutout to Fury and his team as well, hungry go-getters, that’s what we are.

“UK stand up. And to the world – we’re bringing it. I can’t wait. Undisputed.”
Last week, Fury claimed there were FOUR sticking points – with dad John has threatening to ‘spank’ Eddie Hearn.
John roared: “I’ll spank [Hearn] like a kid and I don’t care if he sees this or not because it’s true.
“I don’t take the bulls*** mate, sign the document.
“You have it in front of you, sign it. Sign the f***ing contract.”
But Arum’s latest revelation suggests the ‘sticking points’ have been ironed out.

SunSport understands a non-disclosure agreement has been keeping discussions top secret, with Arum’s update therefore a huge boost for fans.
Saudi Arabia, which hosted AJ’s December 2019 rematch win over Andy Ruiz Jr, is leading the race to hold the fight.
But America, Qatar, Dubai, Singapore and China have all expressed their interest in hosting.
With the Covid-19 fall-out unlikely to allow for 90,000 fans back into Wembley stadium for a while, the UK has to hope to host the rematch of the planned two-fight deal.
Joshua won as recently as December, knocking out Kubrat Pulev, 39, in a mandatory defence in his local Wembley Arena.
But Fury hasn’t fought since February 2020, when he dethroned Deontay Wilder – meaning he goes into the biggest fight of his life with on the back of a 16-month layoff.

He said on his Instagram page: “Canelo, what’s your problem, bro?! Why you hate me so much?!

“Canelo’s mad. He has this thing against me. Said I’m bad for the sport. I’m disrespecting it, which doesn’t make sense at all.
“I’m actually just bringing more eyeballs, more awareness to the sport of boxing.
“But since Canelo, you wanted to start this beef, let’s do it!
“Why not fight Caleb Plant? David Benavidez? BooBoo Andrade?

“You’re ducking them. You’re ducking them, Canelo! You’re an old hater, that’s what you are.
“You’re mad because DAZN had to renegotiate your contract because you weren’t selling enough.
“You’re mad because there is someone new coming into this sport.
“You claim you’re the pound-for-pound best fighter but you’re fighting these guys from Turkey that no one has ever heard of.”
Canelo will be hoping to silence the loudmouth American when he takes on Billy Joe Saunders in May to determine who will be crowned undisputed champ.

Meanwhile Paul is 2-0 with as many knockout since turning pro in 2020.

Teofimo Lopez looking to LEAVE Top Rank and start his own Takeover Promotions after George Kambosos Triller fight

TEOFIMO LOPEZ is looking to end his relationship with Top Rank – just four months after his stunning victory over Vasily Lomachenko.
The unified lightweight champion has been at loggerheads with his promoter due to their refusal to meet his demands to face George Kambosos Jr.

Unable to reach a deal with Top Rank, a frustrated Lopez took his mandatory bout with Kambosos Jr to a purse bid – which was won last week by Triller.
And The Takeover hopes to part ways with veteran promoter Bob Arum as soon as possible.
During an appearance on Sirius XM radio, Lopez said: “Yeah, I see myself within maybe this fight or my next fight, I’ll be a free agent.
“There’s so much proof for me to get out of this Top Rank contract that they gave me the golden ticket.

“Todd DuBoef gave me the golden ticket by doing so. They already dug a bigger hole than they needed to.”
Lopez, 23, has lofty ambitions of starting his own boxing promotion.

He added: “The Takeover Promotions will be in effect and it’ll be Takeover Promotions times a network, God willing and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“ESPN, PBC, Triller, the list could go on and on. DAZN, I mean there’s so many guys and I know that I bring all that to the platform.”
The American bears no ill will towards his current promoters but believes his career will be better served if they part ways.
He said: “They need to get their big boy pants on because I don’t see them getting out of this one. I just don’t.
“I’m a young fighter, but I’m someone that has never been disrespectful to anyone.
“For Top Rank, I love everything they’ve done for me. It’s hard to go this way, but hey, I wish them nothing but the best.

“We’ll go our separate ways, and we go from there. I think this is great for the sport, and this is great for myself and my career.
“It sucks that it had to go this way, but it’s good that there’s a way out.
“There’s a Plan-B. I’ll be in LA this week to meet with Ryan Kavanaugh [of Triller], a guy that actually has faith in me.”
Lopez is hoping to have a busy 2021, setting his sights on three outings this year.
He said: “I’m shooting for May, sometime in the summer, and then at the end of the year.
“I’ll be a free agent, and we can make those types of fights happen as well.
“I’m hearing May 29th on Triller in the main event, and then we can look for the co-main attraction and so on and so forth.
“I think we’re talking about Miami, Florida. Dallas, Texas could be another thing.”

Manny Pacquiao ‘finalising all details’ to fight Mikey Garcia in May after being accused of picking ‘low risk’ opponents

MANNY PACQUIAO and Mikey Garcia finally look set to end the talking and step inside the ring.
American Garcia, 33, revealed after months of back-and-forth they are ‘finalising all details’ to have a blockbuster showdown in May.

Filipino legend Pacquiao hasn’t fought since beating Keith Thurman over 12 rounds in Las Vegas in July 2019.
The former eight-division champion has not been short of options having been locked in negotiations with UFC superstar Conor McGregor and lightweight sensation Ryan Garcia.
And after Mikey criticised Pacquiao for ducking out of high-risk fights, it appears he has surged ahead in the race to land a lucrative bout.
Reported by Boxing Scene, the four-division champion told journalist Jo Ankier: “We’re finalising all of the details.

“We hope to get the exact date and location in the next few days. We’re trying to get everything done for May.
“It’s been in the works for a long time, particularly more in detail in the last year.
“Now, in the last few weeks, we’ve been getting very close to working on this and finalising it.
“I’m pretty excited. We’ll have all of the details set in the next few days. It’s a matter of time.

“It’s a great fight. I think it’s great for my career, and for the fans.
“It’s very exciting for boxing in general to see this type of fight.
“We’ve been working on this for years. We were almost ready for this before COVID-19 happened.
“Now it seems like things are back on track. Now, to share the ring with a living legend like Manny does amazing things for my career.

“I just hope that the fans appreciate this.
“It’s not very often that you see two of the greatest fighters face each other.
“Right now, that’s what we’re about to do. I’m about to face a legend.”
