UFC star Leon Edwards predicts Jake Paul will ‘chin’ Ben Askren and warns YouTuber’s fight will be ‘bad for MMA’

LEON EDWARDS predicted Ben Askren is ‘going to get chinned’ against Jake Paul – with the result ‘bad for MMA’.
YouTuber Paul faces the retired ex-UFC welterweight on April 17, and heads into the pay-per-view headliner as a betting favourite.

And according to current 170lb contender Edwards, the social media sensation does so for a reason.
Paul has been backed to KO Askren, leaving a humorous stain on MMA in doing so.
Edwards, 29, told talkSPORT: “He’s going to get knocked out, I’m serious.
“It’s going to be bad for MMA, man! I don’t know who agreed to this. I don’t think it’s going to be good for MMA and he’s going to get chinned.

“But, it’s going to be funny to see.”
Askren, 36, comes into the fight having won titles with Bellator and ONE Championship before signing for the UFC in 2019.
But after three bouts, and two losses, he hung up his gloves and underwent hip surgery last year.
Paul, 24, turned pro in 2020, boxing only once before in an exhibition bout in 2018.

But he already has two knockouts in as many fights, although he only beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 36.
Despite Askren’s lifetime of experience in MMA, his lack of proven striking skills leaves him the underdog.
But it has not affected his confidence in any way, as he predicted Paul will be beaten into an ugly submission.
Askren said on Twitter: “I feel great, just tremendous. Boxing stuff is really starting to come together.
“I can’t promise you it’s going to be the prettiest thing you ever saw – although my face is pretty – my combat skills are not, they are unique, they are different.
“But here’s what I can tell you; you will witness the humiliation of Jake Paul. You will witness one man breaking another man’s will.
“And that man Jake Paul, will give up and be humiliated in front of millions of people, live on Triller on April 17th.”

Andy Ruiz Jr shows off body transformation and confirms ring return but Whyte tells him to ‘shut up’ in blunt response

ANDY RUIZ JR confirmed his return to the ring on April 24 – but Dillian Whyte told him to ‘shut up’ in a blunt response.
The Mexican-American has not fought since December 2019, when he lost an immediate rematch against Anthony Joshua.

But he is now in line for a comeback, 16-months on with a shock pay-per-view fight against Chris Arreola.
Ruiz, who has dramatically transformed his body since ballooning up to 20STONE, shared a workout video online.
He wrote: “It’s official! April 24, we’re back baby. Can’t wait to show everyone the hard work we’ve been putting in.”
But Whyte, 32, responded: “Shut up Andy.”

The Brit was in talks to fight Ruiz, 31, last year with promoter Eddie Hearn keen on staging the heavyweight headliner.
But negotiations broke down with Whyte instead fighting Alexander Povetkin, 41, last August where he suffered a shock loss.
He is now rematching Russian Povetkin on March 27 in Gibraltar, with the chance to win back his WBC mandatory status.
Ruiz shot to fame in June 2019, when he stepped in for drug cheat Jarrell Miller, 32, and challenged Joshua, 31.

He pulled off a stunning upset, dropping AJ four times in New York on the way to a seventh round stoppage.
But Ruiz put on a FULL STONE for the rematch in Saudi Arabia six months layer and laboured to a points loss over 12-rounds.
Since then, he has switched training camps and linked up with Canelo Alvarez’s esteemed coach Eddy Reynoso in their adopted San Diego base.
And Ruiz appears to be reaping the rewards, with a recent picture showing the underdog hero trimmer than ever before.
The man who awaits him, Arreola, 40, was once knocked out by ex-WBC king Deontay Wilder in 2016.
The American has only fought three times since that defeat, with his current record standing at 38–6–1 with two no-contests.
Like Ruiz, Arreola has not been seen since December 2019, in a losing effort against Adam Kownacki.
But he has long been touted as Ruiz’s comeback opponent, with discussions progressing for over a year.

Canelo Alvarez is ‘better than Mike Tyson’ and would BEAT Anthony Joshua ‘if he was bigger’, claims Yildirim’s manager

CANELO ALVAREZ is ‘better than Mike Tyson’ and would BEAT Anthony Joshua ‘if he was bigger’, Avni Yildirim’s manager said.
Canelo retained his super-middleweight crown with ease at the end of February, after mandatory challenger Yildirim was pulled out before round three.

Alvarez, 30, is a four-division champion and the current pound-for-pound king.
He is so gifted, Yildirim’s manager Ahmet Oner would back him him to better heavyweight Anthony Joshua, 31, if he had the size to do so.
Oner told George Ebro: “I don’t think anyone can beat him in the division. If he was bigger, he could even beat Anthony Joshua.
“He is a monster. He hit Avni in the third round and I saw that he wasn’t reacting to his coach’s questions.

“We made the decision to remove him. He is 29-years-old. Canelo is in a different league.”
Canelo, who started his career at welterweight, moved as high as light-heavyweight in 2019, to knock out Sergey Kovalev, winning the WBO belt.
But he later ruled out a step up to cruiserweight, and admitted super-middle was his optimum division.
Roy Jones Jr became the first man in 106 years to reign as middleweight champion and win a heavyweight title, after he beat John Ruiz in 2003.

Canelo is on course for a May 8 unification with Billy Joe Saunders, 31, defending his WBC and WBA belts while challenging fo the WBO version.
But Oner warned no one around the Mexican’s weight will dethrone him, comparing the superstar to heavyweight icon Tyson, now 54.
He said: “Canelo is very strong. There is only one Canelo.
“Put in Jermall Charlo, Dirrell, Billy Joe Saunders. All of them will be defeated by Canelo.
“He’s better than Mike Tyson, more solid. He will never lose to minor boxers.”

Team GB ace Cheavon Clarke holding on to Olympic dream and following in golden oldie Joe Joyce’s footsteps

CHEAVON CLARKE is looking up to Joe Joyce and banking on becoming another Team GB golden oldie.
The 30-year-old Team GB heavyweight celebrated The Juggernaut’s November win over Daniel Dubois, especially as Joyce went into the British title clash as the underdog.

The Putney ace took his 2016 Olympic silver quality – after he was robbed of a gold in Rio – as well as all of his knowhow from years in the British amateur boxing super-school to dominate the red-hot prospect.
Joyce, 35, spent years as Anthony Joshua’s understudy in Sheffield and had to bide his time.
And Clarke is having to show similar patience now the pandemic is delaying his overdue shot at Olympic legacy.
“Joe is a good story, I respect his hustle and the way he has levelled up,” Clarke told SunSport.

“Joe started boxing later in life than a lot of boxers and took every opportunity that came his way and has never settled.
“Some people get on the Team GB squad and think ‘I am the best in the country’ but then they have to go on to become the best in Europe and the world.
“That’s why I respect what Joe has done, as well as guys like Joshua Buatsi, James DeGale, AJ and going right back to Audley Harrison.”

The delay to Tokyo 2020 has forced a lot of amateur boxers into snap decisions.
Former Team GB prospect Solly Dacres will make his pro debut on March 20 and the American amateur team lost their hottest talent Keyshawn Davis to the paid ranks last month on the Canelo undercard.
But Kent ace Clarke, speaking to SunSport to launch his new website and clothing line, is still laser-focused on representing his country at the highest level.
“We are all on our own journey so everyone has to make their own right decision,” he said.

“But, for me, there is only The Olympics. No disrespect to anyone, but anyone can be a professional boxer, not a lot of people can say they have even been to an Olympics, let alone medalled or won.
“Good luck to everyone turning over now but I have set myself a goal and I like to conquer one level at a time.
“There is a proven track record of success here and that leaves clues.
“It isn’t the only way, but if you build your pedigree then when you turn professional you are usually very successful.

Tyson Fury’s dad John PRAISES Jake Paul for trolling his son Tommy and says Love Island star would fight YouTuber next

JOHN FURY said son Tommy would fight Jake Paul next – and praised the pair for their online trolling.
John’s other son, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson, started the feud after he called on Paul to fight the Love Island star.

Both men then took aim at each other online, with Tommy using girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague’s wig to imitate Paul.
It came after the YouTuber, 24, had mocked Tyson’s half-brother with a British accent and said he looked like the Gypsy King’s ‘s***’.
Paul’s antics have won the praise of John, who admitted he wants Tommy, 21, to fight the social media sensation in the future.
He said: “I’m enjoying a bit of a joke with Jake Paul. We hope to get him sometime in the future.

“We’d probably take him next if we can get him. But they’re just pipe dreams at the minute.
“I thought Tommy’s thing with the wig on was great.
“Jake Paul, equally as good, we’ve enjoyed a backwards and forwards with these two, it’s going to be a great.”

Tommy Fury donned a blond wig to tell Jake Paul to ‘stick to YouTube’

Tommy recently improved his record to 5-0 and is lined up for a swift return to the ring in April.
His promoter Frank Warren gave the green light for the unbeaten light-heavyweight to face 2-0 Paul.
But the veteran matchmaker is still not convinced by the standard of boxing Jake and his brother Logan, as well as Brit KSI, bring to the ring.
Warren told SecondsOut: “The YouTubers, what I’ve seen of them, the ones I’ve seen, wouldn’t win a Southern Area title.
“They’ve not got the experience for it. They do their best, I mean I’ve only ever seen one YouTube fight and it was what it was.
“It was two evenly matched guys, who probably wouln’t get a liscence. Wouldn’t win an ABA.

“Having said that, Jake Paul, what do I think of that? I think Tommy Fury will knock him completely spark out.
“I dont see any other way that goes. Would I get involved? Absolutely, there’s going to be no risk for Tommy.
“But it doesn’t mean I think any differently.
“As I say, these guys at their level, they’re doing what they do, good luck to them, they’re earning a lot of money.
“My only prefix about it is that I feel thats not what top boxing is.”

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle claims Logan Paul exhibition fight is OFF despite YouTuber announcing bout is postponed

FLOYD MAYWEATHER’S uncle Jeff has claimed his nephew’s exhibition with Logan Paul is OFF.
That is despite the YouTuber and Mayweather both announcing the initial February 20 date was postponed, ensuring the fight is still on.

But trainer Jeff – who coached KSI to beat online rival Paul in 2019 – has cast doubt over the pay-per-view spectacle, which has received little promotion.
He told Fred Talks Fighting: “That fight’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. And if it was gonna happen, it would already be.
“You gotta realise, when Floyd is doing something, you gotta promote it for like about, I say, at least four to six months.
“And let that fight build, you know, to its maximum capacity.”

The bout was originally announced on both the stars’ Instagram pages but was later backdated.
Mayweather, 44, recently said before his birthday party that the fight was cancelled as they want a live crowd to be in attendance.
The American icon named the Las Vegas Raiders’ new NFL stadium as a potential host, as it can hold up to 80,000 fight fans.
And Paul, 25, later followed up by revealing Showtime and Mayweather’s long-time advisor Al Haymon were now involved in proceedings.

Still, it has not convinced former world champion Jeff.
He said: “I don’t think that fight’s happening. Like I said, if it was happening, the promotion stuff would already be happening. Everybody would know.”
Mayweather officially retired in 2017, after sealing a perfect 50-0 record having beaten UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds.
He did return a year later, wiping out featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in round one of an exhibition.
Paul, meanwhile, has boxed only twice before, both against KSI, firstly in a white collar draw in 2018 before they turned pro a year after.

KSI, 27, ended up winning the rematch by split-decision after a two point deduction cost Paul the result.
The viral vlogger, whose brother Jake, 24, is a 2-0 boxer, is armed with a FOUR STONE and six inch height advantage.
But Mayweather, the best of his generation, has a farcical skill and experience disparity – leaving the result a no-brainer for Jeff.
He explained: “I ain’t going to make a prediction for that, that’s a joke!
“Don’t get me wrong, Floyd’s going to win. That’s obvious. This dude ain’t no real fighter, he’s a damn YouTuber.”

Derek Chisora shares Joseph Parker phone call as Brit urges Kiwi to agree May 1 showdown

DEREK CHISORA has verbally agreed a May showdown with Joseph Parker after sharing a call between the pair.
The British heavyweight has been bombarding the New Zealander through the night in a bid to set up a summer fight in the UK.

And Chisora tweeted that he finally got through in which Parker joked that the late hour is why he’s been refusing to pick up.
But after a bit of back and forth about their gym work, the pair both claimed they were ready to step in the ring on May 1.

The heavyweights were due to fight in October 2019, but Parker pulled out with a freak injury after being bitten by a SPIDER.

Chisora, 36, went on to instead face and beat David Price, 37, before unsuccessfully challenging ex-cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk, 34.
Yet he has now turned his attention back to Parker, who called him a ‘donkey’ following his win over Junior Fa.
The Kiwi, a friend of Tyson Fury’s who was beaten by Anthony Joshua in 2018 and Dillian Whyte a year later, has won his last four.
Their latest phone call came after the pair were told that they were running out of time to finalise a fight date.

Parker’s manager David Higgins told Sky Sports: “There’s about nine weeks and if Joseph would leave New Zealand at the end of this week, there’s only eight weeks, so touch and go.

“If we’re going to take the fight at only eight weeks, everyone would have to agree terms right now in the next 48 hours. There are discussions going on.
“A base contract was already developed for the previous fight. There are things in our favour. Duco, my company, and Matchroom have made quick deals before and have worked together well.
“Both guys want the fight. It’s very possible we can put it together. We’ll probably set a drop date at the end of this week.”
