Tyson Fury at disadvantage the ‘longer it takes’ to finalise Anthony Joshua fight due to 14-month ring rust, says Warren

TYSON FURY will be at a disadvantage against Anthony Joshua the ‘longer it takes’ for their blockbuster showdown to be finalised. The WBC heavyweight king put pen to paper on a two-fight deal worth a whopping £500million earlier this week, although the venue and date for his long-awaited showdown with AJ have yet to be finalised.

Fury, 32, hasn’t set foot inside the ring since he emphatically dethroned Deontay Wilder last February.
And The Gypsy King’s co-promoter Frank Warren reckons any further delays to the fight will have a detrimental effect on his chances of winning the Battle of Britain.
He told BT Sport: “Everybody is working to get it away in June or July, that’s what we’re working towards. That’s what we want to do.
“The longer it takes to happen, it’s not gonna be good for Tyson. You’ve been out the ring now 13 months, coming up to 14 months.
“So he’ll want to be fighting. And we want to get it on ASAP.”
The undefeated Fury recently admitted ring rust could end up being a factor in the biggest fight in the history of British boxing.

He told ESPN: “I should have boxed, because I’ve been so inactive.
“By the time I fight again, looking at maybe June if this Joshua fight happens, that will be a year and six months out of the ring, which is not ideal preparation for any super-fight.”
But his head coach, SugarHill Steward, has a plan in place to get him in prime condition to bosh Josh.
He said: “Remember the movie Diggstown with Louis Gossett Jr, he had to fight ten guys within days or something?
“Let’s get Tyson to do that. Let’s put him in there for a fight a month.
“If he’s ready let’s give him a fight a month against the top ten guys and take on each contender.
“Old school boxing like Ray Robinson, they fought, then they fought three weeks later.
“Why not fight if you stay ready? What a challenge and what statement that would be.
“A lot of fighters want to fight once or twice a year, but if you’re ready why not fight?

“I told Tyson that and he just smiled. I don’t think he’d mind it.
“He just smiled and laughed, one of those Tyson Fury laughs. Tyson’s a throwback fighter, he likes all that old school stuff.”
Unified heavyweight king Joshua was last in action against Kubrat Pulev last December.
The Olympian retained his titles with a ninth-round knockout to tee up his long-awaited showdown with Fury.

Mike Tyson’s brother is a brain surgeon who ‘saved a couple’ of his pals’ lives after they were shot

MIKE TYSON revealed his brother is a brain surgeon who saved a couple of his friends’ lives after they were shot. The heavyweight legend opened up about his brother Rodney, who is five years older, on his podcast with guest Canelo Alvarez.

Tyson – one of the most famed punchers of all time – highlighted the contrast between himself and Rodney.
He said: “I have a brother that’s a brain surgeon. I can f***ing barely read and write and this guy’s a brain surgeon and s***.
“A couple of my friends were shot, he went there and sewn them up. One friend says, ‘Mike, that’s your brother?’
“Yeah, my brother saved a couple of my friends’ lives. They’ve been shot or something and he’s sewn them up.
“He says, ‘That’s your brother?’ Yes it is my brother.”
Tyson, now 54, wrote extensively about his brother in his 2014 book, Undisputed Truth.
He remarked:  “We’re black guys from the ghetto and he was like a scientist – he had these little test tubes and was always experimenting.
“I was like, ‘White people do this stuff.’ He once went to the chemistry lab at Pratt Institute, a nearby college, and got some chemicals to do an experiment.

“A few days later, when he was out, I snuck into his room and started adding water to his test tubes, and I blew out the whole back window, starting a fire in his room.”
As well as starting fires in Rodney’s room and the occasional scuffle, Tyson also cut his brother with a razor while he was sleeping.
He recalled: “I fought with him a lot, but it was just typical stuff. Except for the day that I cut him with a razor.
“He had beaten me up for some reason and then he had gone to sleep.
“My sister, Denise, and I were watching one of those doctor-type soap operas and she said, ‘We could do that and Rodney could be the patient.’”
“So we rolled up his sleeve and got to work on his left arm, ‘scalpel,’ I said and my sister handed me the razor. I cut him a bit and he started bleeding.
Mike Tyson as a child before he began boxing
“I said, ‘We need the alcohol, nurse’ and she passed it to me and I poured it onto his cuts.
“He woke up screaming and yelling, chasing us around the house – he still has those slices to this day.”
Tyson soon left his troubled life in Brooklyn aged 13 when he was introduced to his mentor and former trainer Cus D’Amato while staying in a facility for juvenile delinquents
D’Amato later legally adopted and housed the promising boxer and coached him in his gym in the Catskill.
Sadly, D’Amato died while Tyson was 19, but a year later Iron Mike won the title, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.
Tyson went on to have one of the most famous careers in boxing, with equal ups and downs before he retired in 2005.
In his tell-all book released seven years ago, he revealed his relationship with brother Rodney broke down.

But he once more spoke about how the lives of his friends were saved by his older sibling.
Tyson wrote: “I was used to living in a slum, in a condemned building. But my brother never talks about that. It must affect him.
“He said to me last time we spoke: ‘I heard you have a magnificent book’. But he hasn’t read it. He’s just so far away from that world.
“He’s the No1 trauma guy in the country. He’s awesome. He’s taken bullets out of some of my friends.
“He’s stitched them up and they’ve said: ‘Mike do you know your brother is a surgeon’.
“I say, ‘Yeah, I know.’ We don’t have a close connection. Too many demons, too much pain.”

Canelo Alvarez opens up on only defeat to Floyd Mayweather and admits he was inexperienced and sees loss as lesson

CANELO ALVAREZ opened up on his sole career defeat to Floyd Mayweather, which he put down to inexperience and a lesson learned. The Mexican superstar was just 23 when he faced Mayweather in 2013, which sold a then-record 2.2million pay-per-views.

Canelo, the WBC light-middleweight champion at 154lb at the time, was also made to fight at a catchweight 152lb limit.
Mayweather later put on a masterclass over 12 rounds, but it proved to be the last blemish on Alvarez’s record.
Canelo, 30, said on Mike Tyson’s podcast: “I know what happened, I’m going to be with my trainer all my life, because I know.
“When I fought with Floyd, I was 23. I always think I need to fight first with Cotto, Lara and all of those guys and then Floyd.
“But that’s what it is. I needed more experience, more mature. I don’t take that fight like a loss, I learned from that fight.”
Mayweather, now 44, showcased expert counter punching and defence against Canelo that night in Las Vegas.

Since then, Alvarez has adapted his style and become a master evader, while moving up the weights.
He went on to win titles at middleweight, super-middle and light-heavyweight.
But the four-division champion has settled at the 168lb super-middleweight limit, where he holds the WBC and WBA belts.
He has his eye on the undisputed crown, and faces Billy Joe Saunders, the WBO holder in May, with plans to already challenge for Caleb Plant’s IBF strap after.

Mike Tyson announces he will return to ring for second comeback fight on May 29 in Miami as Holyfield calls for trilogy

MIKE TYSON announced his will return to the ring on May 29 in Miami for his second comeback fight. The heavyweight legend last year made the stunning announcement that he would come out of retirement after 15 years out.

He later returned to face fellow icon Roy Jones Jr, 52, and the pair boxed to a draw over eight exhibition rounds.
Tyson, 54, said right after he will fight again, and he revealed on his podcast with Canelo Alvarez the date of his next bout.
He said: “End of May, where you (Canelo) fought (Miami) same ring you fought in.
“May 29th, May 31, something like that, right where you fought, same ring.”
Canelo’s last win, a third round stoppage against Avni Yildirim, was at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
And the last Saturday falling in May is the 29th, likely the date of Tyson’s next fight.
The celebrated puncher did not name a potential opponent when asked about his return to the ring by Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso.
But talks between old rival Evander Holyfield, 58, have been on going for an astonishing trilogy 24 years in the making.

Holyfield first beat Tyson in 1996 in 11 rounds, but their rematch a year later will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Known as the ‘Bite Fight’ Iron Mike sunk his teeth into the American ex-champion in round three and was subsequently disqualified.
They have since formed a friendship in the years passing, but they will put that aside for a lucrative third fight.
And Holyfield – who last boxed in 2011 but officially retired in 2014 – called out Tyson in a recent Instagram post.
He wrote: “Getting back in my rhythm just waiting on my dance partner now @miketyson to show up. Where you at?”

Promoters have 30 days to secure a host and time frame, and even then if either superstar does not like the package they can walk away.
But still, it has not stopped Joshua, 31, from getting down to work as he took to social media to show off his workout.
AJ was pictured training at his former Finchley amateur club but will be expected to move down to his regular team GB base in Sheffield closer to the fight.
Fury, 32, on the other hand has been more coy about his preparations, claiming to have stopped training until there was an official announcement.
The unbeaten Brit even said he was drinking up to 12 pints a day, but fans were quick to predict the Gypsy King was up to his usual mind games.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was one to quickly to play down Fury’s remarks.

Hearn told iFL TV: “I don’t know whether he was in a bad mood or pulling everyone’s plonker.
“What I do know is everyone has put a lot of work into this deal and he is on board.”
Fury later attended an MTK fight night to support his friend Isaac Lowe, and reiterated his belief he could beat AJ even after a heavy drinking session.
He said: “I could drink 14 pints and still give AJ a hiding.
“I’m not training anymore. I only need six/seven weeks anyway for these bums.
“I don’t need no big, great sparring partners for a bodybuilding type of guy, I just need the local binmen.”

Tommy Fury was ‘regularly’ offered fights on nights out as teen but nobody messed with him in school thanks to dad John

HOPEFUL brawlers would regularly try and tempt Tommy Fury into a fight – before he laid down his pro credentials. The 21-year-old won his fifth light-heavyweight fight last month and is the latest boxing product of the Fury heritage.

Growing up in Manchester with dad John and future world champion Tyson Fury, he always knew how to handle himself physically.
And Tommy, who shot to fame on Love Island, found his family trade kept him out of trouble at school.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s a funny thing because people would ask me at school and I’d say, ‘My dad is a boxer’.
“They would take a step back!
“Ever since then, I thought it was a cool thing to do. It’s not a job that everybody does.
“Some people think it is barbaric or gladiatorial. It’s our job. It’s like having a cup of tea to us.”
When Fury was in his later teens, punters more regularly plucked up the courage to take him on in the street – inspired by a few pints.
Taunts that he had achieved ‘nothing’ in the ring were something he had to learn to ‘shut out’.

The boxer added: “It brings a whole different [life]. If you go out for a drink with the lads, people will offer you a fight.
“People say: ‘Who are you? You’ve done nothing!’.
“People with a few drinks down them would say things on a regular occurrence when I used to go out.
“All the way through school I had challenges. Then in the boxing gym I had challenges because of my surname.
“It brings a whole set of problems but, in hindsight, they weren’t problems. There is a lot of jealously in the world and I had to shut it out.”
The family also boasts former British heavyweight belt-holder Hughie Fury and trainer Peter, Tommy’s cousin and uncle.
Being born into such an atmosphere helped craft the ex-reality TV star into a natural fighter.
He noted: “Everybody in my family loves fighting, loves a fight, and even if they don’t train in boxing themselves, they can still have a fight.
Even if I didn’t train, I could have a fight because it’s in me. If somebody wanted to fight me, the fire in me would come out.Tommy Fury

“They can all throw their hands. You see a normal family kicking a football around but this is us.
“It’s what I was born into. Everybody related to us. We don’t have to train or think about it.
