Wembley back ON as venue for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury fight with Eddie Hearn in talks over full capacity July clash

EDDIE HEARN has given British boxing fans a glimmer of hope that Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury could be hosted at Wembley Stadium. The duo go head-to-head in July to see who will be crowned undisputed champ in one of the most eagerly-anticipated fights in British boxing history.
Eddie Hearn, right, revealed Wembley Stadium remains a potential destinationCredit: Reuters

No venue has been confirmed as of yet for the first of the £500million two-fight deal with talks ongoing, although there are EIGHT potential locations on offer.
Hearn has already mentioned Las Vegas, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Russia, China, Singapore and the UK as possible options.
But the Matchroom chief has opened the door to a full-capacity Wembley scrap if the government goes through with its plans to ease all lockdown measures by June 21.
He told talkSPORT: “All things being equal, we wouldn’t even be having conversations with anywhere else in the world to be honest with you, we’d just be straight into Wembley.
“Obviously it is the biggest fight of our generation. It’s the moment of both fighters’ careers.
“We do have to look at opportunities and with the crowd restrictions, it makes it even more difficult to generate the kind of money in the UK that you need.
“There have been a couple of conversations over the last 48 hours, I spoke to Bob Arum on Monday at length.
“We were talking about Wembley and he asked me about the restrictions and of course I told him about the Euros going into Wembley and talks of full capacity going in there in June/July.

Wembley Stadium could play host to AJ vs Tyson FuryCredit: Getty
“Could we get full capacity after the Euros, sort of middle/end of July?
“If we could, that does bring London and Wembley into the conversation.
“I’d love to find an excuse to do it in the UK and to find a way.
“I think most people to be honest with you, this includes the Middle East, they would prefer to do the fight back end of the year.
“Do we do the first one in London and the second one in the Middle East or wherever those interesting offers come from?

“There’s a lot of discussions to be had, we don’t rule out Wembley, but one thing we do know is the only way we could stage that fight in Wembley is with full capacity.
“There are some conversations going on with the government to see if that is an option.
“And, if that is an option, that will be presented to the fighters as well.”

Francis Ngannou punch same as sledgehammer swung at full force, as coach of UFC 260 star says training him is ‘painful’

FRANCIS NGANNOU punches so hard that even holding the pads for the UFC heavyweight leaves his coach battered and bruised. Ngannou – who headlines UFC 260 this weekend in a fight with Stipe Miocic – has been working with former boxer and kickboxer Dewey Cooper since 2017.

Cooper acts as the Cameroonian’s striking trainer, with Eric Nicksick head coach.
UFC president Dana White revealed in 2018 that tests on Ngannou proved his power was equivalent to a 12lb sledgehammer being swung at full force.
Or, a Ford Escort going as fast as it can, and Cooper has felt the full impact while on pad duty for the MMA powerhouse.
Also on occasions, when Ngannou’s sparring partners have unsurprisingly no-showed, the retired fighter-turned-trainer has been brave enough to fill in.
Cooper, 46, told SunSport: “He hasn’t broken anything, but it feels broken!
“I’m a strong guy, who works out and fought heavyweight and cruiserweight, so I’m used to big, strong guys, but with Francis, it’s painful.
“Holding pads and getting kicked by him is very painful. He’s separated by ribs with knees, he’s swollen my face with the pad just hitting me.
“He’s punched me a few times too when his sparring partners didn’t show up and I had to spar him.

“He hits hard and I definitely have felt a lot of pain training him, stuff feels broken but it isn’t.
“He’s hurt my hands, arms and ribs so many times, but it’s part of it when you have a guy as powerful as Francis.
“I try my best to improve him, so as hard as he hits, I want him hitting harder and sharper anyway.”
Cooper was part of Ngannou’s team for his first ever loss, a points decision against Miocic.
Up until that point, Ngannou had spent just 16 minutes in the octagon, having won all his fights by KO and never going past the second round.
So it was a shock to the system when Miocic, 38, withstood the power and dragged the fight all five rounds.
Right after, a gun-shy Ngannou was beaten on points by Derrick Lewis, where he appeared seemingly scarred from the exhausting experience of going the distance.
It caused him to switch trainer full-time to Nicksick in Las Vegas, with Cooper still by his side, and the team have since won four on the spin.

Dewey Cooper holds pads for Francis Ngannou
Ngannou, 34, with his confidence regained, is now in the exact spot he found himself in three years ago, challenging for Miocic’s heavyweight crown.
But this time, Cooper says all of Ngannou’s trials and tribulations since that heartbreaking first defeat will lead him to victory in the rematch.
He said: “The only difference to me with this fight to the last fight is experience factor, which is very vital.
“He just didn’t have enough fight experience for the first Stipe fight. That’s the bottom line.
“Experience has a lot of facets to it. Experience is not just the time you trained, it’s the amount of time you have in real fights, in real moments.
“He had none of that before the first championship fight, those or huge factors, they’re irreplaceable, especially the five rounds with Stipe.
“He knows he can do five, it’s now about the output in those five rounds. Those experiences for him are magnificent.
“That will be the difference in the fight, that will be the difference in him becoming the UFC heavyweight champion.”

Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin TV streamers issued warning over illegal viewing by cops and should pay £19.95 fee

BOXING fans have been issued a warning about illegally streaming ahead of Dillian Whyte’s pay-per-view fight with Alexander Povetkin. Ex-police officer Kieron Sharp, now CEO of FACT, an intellectual property protection service, has highlighted the dangers in illegally streaming.
Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin rematch on PPVCredit: Mark Robinson
It is claimed three out of five people in the UK are unaware it can lead to fraud, identity theft, malware and even links to criminal gangs.
And during the past 12 months, there has been an increase in piracy over the various lockdowns.
FACT report they have removed double the number of illegal film links in April 2020 compared to February 2020.
Sharp said: “With the Povetkin fight taking place this weekend, and fans still unable to attend the fight or watch it in the pub, many supporters may be tempted to turn to illegal streaming to access the fight.
“But, many fans are unaware of the hidden dangers of boxing piracy, and it’s really important that they understand the risks.
“Consumers should be aware that piracy originates from sophisticated, unlawful enterprises, putting money directly in the pockets of criminal gangs.
“This is not a grey area – viewing fights through the official providers is the only way to watch your team legally and avoid putting yourself at risk.”
Whyte, 32, was beaten by Povetkin, 41, in August with the shock fifth round knockout televised on Sky Sports Box Office.

Sky are again televising the rematch, at the same £19.95 fee, with Eddie Hearn promoting the heavyweight headliner.
Hearn, arguably Britain’s leading promoter, is working alongside Frank Warren and Bob Arum to finalise a super-fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Both the superstars are box office attractions, and the magnitude of the clash is expected to warrant an increase on their usual £24.95 PPV price.
Fury’s last win, over Deontay Wilder in February 2020, was reportedly illegally steamed up to 20million times, causing a massive loss in revenues.
And despite it happening on a rival show, Hearn was rightfully outraged by the reported piracy numbers.

He told iFL TV at the time: “One of the problems is, there is so many illegal streams now when the price becomes unbearable to the customer.
“One thing I’ll tell you about illegal streams is people think that it’s clever, it’s illegal by the way, that’s why it’s called an illegal stream, but people think it’s clever… you’re taking money out of the fighters’ pockets.
“On pay per views the money goes to the fighters. Don’t think it’s affecting me, because it’s not.
“It might be a tiny bit but not what it’s affecting the fighter.
“The thing about illegal streams is if your price point is £19.99, with the undercard you’ve got to give value for five or six hours for the night.
“You’ve got to sell to the customer an experience where you sit down, you can watch world championship boxing, great young fighters, 50-50 fights, and then build to the main event.”

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s incredible body transformations since pair last fought ahead of £500m-plus clash

ANTHONY JOSHUA showed off his powerful and toned physique in a recent training clip – and Tyson Fury is sweating it out ahead of their undisputed clash. The two Brits have signed a £500million two-fight deal to put their titles on the line this year.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn says the first fight will be ‘in June or July’ and is closing in on a date and venue for this.
In the meantime both boxers are keeping themselves in tip-top shape ahead of one of the most mouthwatering clashes of all time.
    FURY FIGHTING FIT
Fury has not fought since he battered Deontay Wilder into a seventh-round stoppage to win the WBC heavyweight title.
That memorable night in February 2020 Fury weighed in at 19st 7lbs – the third heaviest of his career.

He insisted it was so he had the power to KO Wilder – and he wasn’t wrong.
While the Gypsy King will aim to stick around that weight, he has continued to try and keep himself in shape, regularly sharing gut-busting runs and gym sessions on his social media accounts.
He claimed he was drinking ‘between eight, ten, 12 pints of lager a day’ earlier this month – but whether this is true is up for debate.
Fury is certainly a LONG way from the dark days when he ballooned up to 28st as he battled depression in the aftermath of his famous 2015 victory against Wladimir Klitschko.

    BULKED AJ
Joshua is rarely seen out of shape – but he has sported different physiques in the last couple of years.
For the Andy Ruiz Jr rematch in December 2019, a slimmed down AJ got his revenge with a speedy in-out unanimous points win.
He was also trim in his last fight in November last year when he proved far too good for Bulgarian veteran Kubrat Pulev.
But in a recent social media snap, AJ looked back to being bulkier and more muscular as he prepares to face 6ft 9in, 19st Fury.

Sharing a photo of his toned physique with veins popping out, AJ captioned the snap: “My inspiration is my determination.”
Fans and fellow pros were quick to laud the Watford-born fighter’s physique in the comments section, including ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp.
The all-Brit clash is moving closer to being finalised, according to Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn.
Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said: “A lot has been occurring, I’m actually on my world travels next week to try finalise a few deals around the world, to get things moving.
“[There has been] a lot of really positive conversations, I’ve had a good chat with Bob [Arum, Fury’s promoter], he’s working hard, we’re working hard, we are making a lot of progress.
“And now we are approachingh the period of ‘let’s try and close these site deals’ and that will be the number one priority for next week.”

Whyte vs Povetkin: Kane Baker shows off incredible body transformation after losing 6st and goes from banker to PPV star

KANE BAKER has gone from fat banker to super-feather PPV boxing star thanks to the love of a good woman.Aged 19, the 5ft 8in Brummie was a 15st bank clerk getting out of breath just from screaming combinations at the pub TV.
Kane Baker was around 15st at his heaviest but is now boxing around the 9st mark
Super-feather star Kane Baker credits his fiance Coral with turning his life around
But this Saturday the self proclaimed ‘Boxing Fan with a Licence’ will star on the Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin undercard from the Rock of Gibraltar.
Thanks to feeder, trainer and fiance Coral, the 14-7 fans’ favourite will take on Youssef Khoumari at just 9st 4lbs live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The transformation is incredible and at times, without an army of trainers and nutritionists to help, brutal too.
The 30-year-old told SunSport: “Around the age of 21, when I was working in a bank, I was my heaviest of 15st.
“The family motto after a meal was ‘give it to Kane, he’ll eat it’.
“Then I got with my missus who is super-fit and she just started making me run.
“I tried to convince her that I was from a family that was not genetically made to ever have a six-pack. I had convinced myself of that and her too I’m sure.
Kane Baker fights on the Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin undercard on Saturday
“But she would kick me out of bed at 4am in the morning and send me running.
“She encouraged me to do more white collar fights, so sometimes I would do two-a-weekend and she would come with me.
“Then we got dogs that need loads of exercise so I am always running with them too.
“She obviously still fell for me when I was big, so she fancied me anyway, but she has always just wanted me to be more healthy.”

As a roofer Kane Baker would wear extra layers and do all the hard graft to help him lose weight
Kane Baker went from bloated boxing fan to PPV star thanks to his missus
Baker quit the bank and started labouring for a roofing firm where the beer flowed after work and the grub was fast and greasy.
So to help him stay in shape he would starve himself and do all the hard work himself – in extra layers – while the boys enjoyed their junk food.
He said: “When I was roofing I wouldn’t really eat much at all and when you are in a van with a load of lads eating McDonald’s and KFC it is hard, it is very hard.
“I would put extra jumpers on and do all the labouring work myself to keep burning fat.
“By the time I was 24 I had got down to around 13st and was doing white collar fights. I turned pro at 26 and started boxing at 11st and I have kept gradually coming down from there.
“Now I can eat three or four meals a day because Coral researches and weighs it all and I am always under 10st.”
    BENN FIGHT AND GOADING BELLEW
Baker made a 4-0 start to the paid ranks with the respected Black Country Boxing team but lost his unbeaten start in 2017 to the son of a childhood idol, just so he could give his die-hard followers an unforgettable night.
“I didn’t even know what it meant to be a journeyman or ‘go on the road’ before I took the Conor Benn fight,” he said. “I took that because I thought I could win.
“I had watched Conor’s career, I loved his dad and Conor had boxed a few lads I knew and I thought I could do better than they had.
“And all the people – who are not fans, they are my mates – who had bought white collar tickets to watch me fight strangers, were suddenly given the chance to go to York Hall and watch their mate fight a member of the Benn family.
“I was never ever turning that down.”

Whyte hand selected Baker for his show thanks to the fanbase he has grown during lockdown.
The down-to-earth lad enjoyed two fights inside 13 days, losing one on October 4 and then stunning Tony Bellew-managed Meshech Spear on October 17.
The late-notice Peterborough win even finished with Baker on the top rope goading his gutted hero like a WWE wrestler.
“I absolutely love Tony Bellew,” he said. “I am a massive fan. But someone had sent me a video where he called me ‘tit’.
“I was boxing his fighter and he told him to watch out for me because I am a ‘bit of a tit’.
“So when I won, I ran over to the corner closest to him, climbed the ropes and said: ‘I’m a tit, but I won it!’
“It did get a lot of attention but I really meant no disrespect. I just got carried away. I think that’s why people have supported me, I am just one of the lads from the pub or football that has followed his dream.”

Dave Allen jokes ‘I’d fight my nan’ for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight purse as White Rhino casts doubt over clash

And with talk of the Battle of Britain heading to foreign soil, for around £200million, there is nothing Allen would not do to enjoy that kind of fortune.
He told talkSPORT: “For the kind of figures they’re throwing about for the fight, I’d fight my nan!
“I’d fight anyone for that amount of money.
“My nan, she’s on the slide a little bit now so I think I’d have a chance!”
Despite putting pen to paper, the fight is subject to a date and venue being agreed between the two camps.
Both sides gave themselves 30 days to secure a site, with talks still on going.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted negotiations are heading in the right direction, and has booked in several meetings to close a deal.
But retired heavyweight Allen, a former sparring partner of Fury and Joshua, can not help but cast doubt over the super-fight.

He said: “I don’t believe we’ll see it this year. I’ve said it all along, I don’t think this fight will happen.
“I would love to be proved wrong, it’s the biggest fight in British boxing history, I think it’s the biggest fight in world boxing currently.
“I’d love to see it, I just don’t see it happening.
“If it does happen this year, it’s gonna have to happen abroad – we’re not gonna get 90,000 in Wembley any time soon, so that’d be a massive shame.

Frank Warren predicts Alexander Povetkin to knock Dillian Whyte out for second time in blockbuster Gibraltar PPV

Povetkin, 41, was floored twice by Whyte in their first bout before KO’ing Whyte with a brutal uppercut in the fifth round.
And promoter Warren believes fans could see a repeat performance during the ‘Rumble on the Rock.’
Although he admitted Povetkin’s battle with Covid in November, which forced their January fight to be postponed, could have an impact on the outcome.
Warren told iFL TV: “I think what’s going to benefit Dillian is the fact that the fight has been pushed back for various reasons.
“I think that does him a favour because going straight back into a rematch, which they were going to do what eight or ten weeks after the event, that wouldn’t have done him any favours.
“That was a bad knockout that he had. It’s really how has COVID affected Povetkin. He caught COVID, didn’t he? How has it affected him, and I’m much older than him, I speak from experience.
“It’s not something that just leaves your system just like that. It’s in you.
“Hopefully, he’s over that now, and if he is over it, I think Dillian is going to have a tough night because he knows he has the power to knock him over, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens again.
Frank Warren is backing Povetkin to do the double over WhyteCredit: The Sun

“He’s going to have to really, really try and get Povetkin in the position where he hopefully runs out of gas, as far as he’s concerned.
“I think Povetkin now has got his measure. That was a big shot that he caught him with, a big, big shot. So what’s he [Whyte] going to do?
“Is he going to trade with him or is he going to stand off him? For me, he’s [Dillian] got to outwork him.
“He’s got to really make every round like it’s the last round, and try and wear him down.
“If he does that, he might get through it, but I do favour Povetkin to do the same thing again.”
Povetkin revealed to Sky Sports his tactics to make it two from two against Whyte which includes punching shorter.
He said: “The left hook I was prepared for, and the right hand. But the uppercut works. You never know which will work in the next fight.
“I will try to defend myself better. My defensive skills must be better. And I will try to punch shorter.
Alexander Povetkin defends his WBC interim title shot against WhyteCredit: Mark Robinson

“I will try to fix my mistakes from the previous fight and try not to repeat them.
“He can do whatever he wants. I’m ready for anything. I’ve been through this many times. I will be ready.
“I haven’t watched [the first fight] too many times but I pay attention to the mistakes that I made. I didn’t watch it to celebrate my win. It was for homework.”

A venue and a date are the two huge obstacles in the way now, but AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn is set to ‘finalise a few deals’ next week.
The Matchroom boss also confirmed the first scrap will take place in June or July – and has sensationally not ruled out holding the slugfest at Wembley.
Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said: “A lot has been occurring, I’m actually on my world travels next week to try finalise a few deals around the world, to get things moving.

Hearn says there are ‘five or six players in the market’ to stage the fight – but has not given up dreams of holding it on these shores.
The 41-year-old added: “Me and Bob the other day were talking about Wembley. We were saying ‘is there any way we could speak to the government and get 100,000’.
“What about we go in July, they got the Euros there, I don’t know, it’s financially difficult to take that choice.
