Ruiz Jr weighed in over a stone heavier for his second fight against AJ as he ballooned to over 20 stone.
That was to be his last bout with Manny Robles in his corner, as he linked up with Saul Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso last year.
And he is looking in great shape, with the Mexican-American already shedding over three stone for his comeback dust-up against Arreola.
Speaking during a virtual press conference, the Destroyer revealed he is taking competing more seriously now as he looks to become a two-time world champion.
He told Fight Hub TV: “Losing from my last fight against Anthony Joshua, it was devastating, because I did not do the things that I was supposed to do.
“I look back right now and I’m like ‘Damn, if I would’ve stayed dedicated, if I would’ve stayed disciplined and do the right things that I was supposed to do…’
“And that was the most important fight of my life… but now it’s totally different. Now I got my mind right, I got a great trainer, so we’re just ready for May 1.”
Before adding: “I’ve always been overweight and now that I’ve been dropping weight normally and in the right way by eating right, not just wearing the sauna suit, starving yourself.

Ruiz Jr is one of a number of boxers looking to become world heavyweight champion

“Because that’s what I used to do back in the day. But now that we’re eating the right things, we’re working on the right things, I feel amazing.
“I can do better stuff that I couldn’t do before because of my big gut, I had chi-chis, I had t**s that wouldn’t let me throw the right punches and all that.
“But now I’m more motivated, I’m more dedicated in this sport and sky’s the limit.”
Ruiz Jr recently had his say on Joshua’s eagerly-anticipated undisputed title fight against Tyson Fury, where he backed the Gypsy King to win.

And he looks almost completely unrecognisable after shedding the pounds in preparation for his career-defining bout.
Fury shared a photo of his trimmer physique to his recent Instagram story, in which he was modelling some of his Gypsy King clothing line.
And he looked a far cry from a man who claims to be necking 12 pints a day.
Earlier this month, the 32-year-old said: “I have stopped training at the moment, I am on holiday.
“I am drinking anything between eight, ten, 12 pints of lager a day, at the minute.
“But I am not eating so I am getting my calories through alcohol.
“I have trained and trained and trained with no progress so I am now a man of leisure.”

Fight fans couldn’t quite believe their eyes when the latest photo of Fury started doing the rounds on social media.
One tweeted: “He looks class the man means business.”
Another said: “Damn I never seen him this fit.”
And another said: “Wow, Tyson is looking good. His fist looks like a sledgehammer.”
One remarked: “Yes we know he has been lying about not being in training.

“He won’t be beaten. AJ might have to visit primary school again.”
Fury’s long-awaited showdown with Joshua is expected to take place in June or July.
The pair agreed terms on a two-fight deal last year but put pen to paper on their £500million contract earlier this month.
A venue and date for the Battle of Britain, however, have yet to be finalised.
And Fury’s dad, John, recently cast doubt over the biggest fight in the history of British boxing taking place this summer.

He told BT Sport: “We need to get him out, whether these cowboys get the job sorted which I don’t think they’re going to do.
“What have they signed? They’ve signed nothing in my eyes. They’ve got no date, no venue, no nothing.
“What does it mean if you can’t get a date and a venue?
“What does it mean if no one is willing to put the money up?
John Fury has doubts over his son fighting Anthony Joshua this year

“It’s all about someone coming forward and saying, ‘Right, I’ll pay for the fight, I’ll stage the fight.’ Where are these people?
“That’s the position it’s in and I don’t think they can get it together.
“It’s too big for what’s happening and the climate the world is in at the moment.
“I just don’t think the timing is right for a fight of that magnitude with the state of the world.”
Tyson Fury’s dad John casts doubt over Anthony Joshua fight and insists agreement means nothing without date and venue More

According to BoxingScene.com, a location has yet to be determined but both parties have accepted the deal and an official announcement is expected to be made in the coming days.
Marquez, 47, officially retired in 2014 following an illustrious career that spanned over 20 years.
Known for his toughness, the Mexican has a record of 56 wins, seven losses and one draw.
He fought the legendary Manny Pacquiao on four occasions, winning one, losing two and drawing the other.
Cotto, 40, is the first Puerto Rican to win world titles in four different weight classes.
He retired in 2017 following a record of 41 wins and six losses.
The pair will join a growing list of boxing legends who have stepped out of retirement and made sensational returns to the ring.
Most notably, Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr in November in a fight that notched up over 1.6million pay-per-view buys.

Manny Pacquiao in talks to fight Terence Crawford aged 42 on 5 June in huge Abu Dhabi PPV for world title

TERENCE CRAWFORD is reportedly in talks with Manny Pacquiao in a huge Abu Dhabi world title showdown on June 5.The legendary Pac Man, 42, made history in 2019 when he became the oldest welterweight world champion ever by winning the WBA (Super) welterweight title.

Crawford, 33, has held the WBO strap in the division since 2017 and could now put it on the line against the Filipino icon in the Middle East.
Most fans have been desperate to see the American take on Errol Spence Jr, but the star has already rejected the idea of facing his rival and Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Instead, he seems to have been fully focussed on securing a big-money deal to face Pacquiao on a ESPN PPV.
The Athletic claims the potential showdown would need to take place in Abu Dhabi
That is due to it being the largest site fee on offer to stage the event.
Promoters Top Rank have allegedly told ESPN and In-Demand they want June 5th put on hold for the Crawford vs Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) bout.
And it will be a huge coup for Bob Arum if he can get the contract signed off.
Crawford’s promoter, who used to represent Pacquiao also, has been trying to get the two men to go one-on-one since they were both under his stable.

Arum has confirmed he will make an announcement for his next fight next week.
Despite his achievements inside the ropes, Crawford has still been criticised over his lack of top-level opponents.
And despite Pac Man’s age, he would undoubtedly still provide the stiffest test of ‘Bud’s’ career to date.
It has also been reported by Boxing News that Crawford’s Plan-B option is Shawn Porter should he fail to take on Pacquiao.

Deontay Wilder to learn Tyson Fury trilogy fate in May and could ‘claim for damages’ says legendary promoter Bob Arum

DEONTAY WILDER will find out in May whether he is entitled to a third fight with Tyson Fury, according to promoter Bob Arum. After being beaten by the Gypsy King in February of last year, the American’s contractual right to a trilogy clash appeared to go up in smoke when Fury’s team claimed the clause for a rematch had expired.

Wilder has now gone to court in a bid to get Fury back in the ring, but the Brit’s promoter Arum insists it will NOT put an all-British dust-up with Anthony Joshua under threat.
Speaking to Barbershop Conversations, he said: “That is in arbitration, and the arbitrator will decide.”
When asked whether it will put a Joshua-Fury bout on hold, he added: “No, really and truly, nobody anticipates that there’ll be an injunction. At worst, there might be a claim for damages.
“I think it was scheduled that we’d finally get a determination sometime in May. I can’t go into that.”
Wilder has made numerous outlandish excuses since being beaten by Fury more than a year ago.
A comeback fight for The Bronze Bomber does not appear to be on the horizon as he continues to remain relatively quiet.
But promoter Eddie Hearn called on Wilder to fight Dillian Whyte after his win at the weekend.
The Body Snatcher stopped Alexander Povetkin inside four rounds with a statement display in Gibraltar.

And Hearn is now calling for Whyte to get a shot at Wilder – a clash the Brit has wanted for several years.
The Essex-based promoter said: “I’d like to see him [Whyte] box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there.
“We called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time. [Wilder] actually DM’d Dillian Whyte and said I will never, ever give you that fight.
“And now he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte.
“For me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight. I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.”

Darch, who last fought as a professional against Dave Allen in 2020, admitted he was ‘ashamed’ of how his gloved career ended.
But the ex-heavyweight is rejuvenated after linking up with former super-lightweight champion Gavin Rees.
He said, via World Boxing News: “At the end of my pro gloved career, I was ashamed of myself.
“There were some poor performances through a lack of training.
“I went to see Gavin Rees and felt that when I went there, I had to train, and I felt great in there.”
Darch, 36, had a 12-12-1 boxing career but lost his last seven fights.
Still, he faced the likes of Daniel Dubois, Hughie Fury, Tom Little, Nick Webb, Simon Vallily as well as AJ in 2014 and Allen.
To start his BKB career he beat cruiserweight Shaw, with both left battered and bruised afterwards.

Darch said: “Much respect to Mason, I’d like to say first of all. He’s going to operate well at the lower weight.
“But I don’t think he’s big enough for this category, caught me with some massive shots but because I’m so big I was able to stand up to them.
