It will be the YouTuber’s third professional fight, having won the first two by knockout.
Since his debut in 2020, Paul, 24, has become one of the most polarising fighters in the world, for his brash callouts and loft ambitions.
But Covington – a UFC mouthpiece in his own right – has backed former rival Askren to silence the internet sensation in the ring.
He told Helen Yee: “Hopefully Ben goes out there and knocks out Jake Paul.
“I’m just sick of hearing him talk. He’s just running his mouth and there’s no substance behind anything he says.
“I think he will [beat Paul], I think he’s just going to put that pressure on him.
“If he uses the clinch and just ties him up and just gets him tired, there’s no doubt he has a better gas tank than Jake Paul – some little YouTuber.
“The kid’s a complete joke, he’s an embarrassment to society, he’s an embarrassment to the MMA and boxing world in general.
“I hope Ben goes out there and shuts his mouth.”

Paul beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ in January last year before leaving ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 36, out cold in November.
But Askren, 36, an ex-ONE Championship and Bellator champion, provides the social media phenomenon his biggest step up in competition.
Paul recently revealed he aims to bring other MMA fighters over boxing, having previously called out Conor McGregor, 32.
He told Triller: “I want to bring these big name MMA fighters into the boxing ring.
“With boxing the sky is the limit. I think the potential of what we can make with doing this in the next couple of years is massive.
“It can become something huge where we’re making hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Shockingly, the former Disney actor turned professional boxer is the favourite going into his showdown with the former Olympic wrestler – despite only having two fights to his name.
The entire MMA community is rooting for Askren to put a beating on the outspoken Paul brother.
And if he were in Askren’s shoes, Poirier would be embarrassed if he didn’t get the better of the social media star early in the contest.
He tweeted: “Also while Im at it if i can’t get Jake Paul outta there in 3 rounds im a bumb [sic].”
The Diamond was quickly quizzed about Paul’s relationship with his American Top Team team-mate Jorge Masvidal.
A fan tweeted: “Why is Jorge friends with him after Jake called you a bum fighter?”

And the Louisiana fighter didn’t mince his words when responding to the question.
He said: “Ask Jorge what he thinks will happen if i put them paws on Jake.”
Former ONE Championship and Bellator 170lb king Askren has vowed to drag Paul into deep waters and finish him.
But the YouTuber – who is 2-0 as a pro following wins over AnEson Gib and ex-NBA star Nate Robinson – is adamant the 36-year-old won’t lay a glove on him.

He told ESPN: “Go Google Ben Askren’s striking.
“Hahaha. It’s not going to go that long, it’s not going to go that long.
“I don’t even think he’ll hit me. I haven’t been hit one time in the face in my past two fights.
“So I haven’t even been punched as pro boxer one time. Nate Robinson landed one body shot in a clinch.
“I don’t think Ben Askren will even hit me. That’s my prediction.”

Fan favourite Fury has been tipped by many to get the better of Joshua due to his size, fleet-footedness and ability to glide out of harm’s way.
And Wallin, who went the distance with Fury in September 2019, reckons those attributes tip the odds in The Gypsy King’s favour.
The Swede told Pro Boxing Fans: “For me, I would say Fury would be the favourite because of his size and his boxing ability.
“And, you know, I think he’s a smart guy. He’s got good momentum also [after] beating Deontay Wilder.
“He’s been out of the ring for some time now, but still I think that he’s very confident.
“He knows what he’s good at and what he can do.

They were initially signed to fight on February 20, but a new date has not yet been announced.

And giving the social media sensation a helping hand is unbeaten star Garcia, who has also launched his own YouTube channel.
In his latest video, he visits Paul’s Los Angeles mansion, where he trains out of, with a ring in his back garden.
And in the video, the pair are seen discussing tactics and sparring each other.
At one point, Garcia, 22, says: “You’re bigger. Push me, There it is.

Paul, 26, has boxed only twice before, both against online rival KSI.
The first was a draw in a white collar bout in 2018, but when the two turned professional a year later, KSI, 27, won by scrappy split-decision.
He is yet to fight since, and the leap from fighting fellow novice KSI to all-time great is an unprecedented one.
Mayweather, 44, closed out his career officially in 2017, stopping ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.
But he returned a year later for an exhibition in Japan, wiping out featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in just two minutes.
