Conor Benn sets himself up for mouthwatering Amir Khan fight but only after feasting on Easter eggs and pancakes

CONOR BENN plans to enjoy the fruits of his labour after a career-best win – by feasting on Easter eggs and pancakes.Benn stopped Samuel Vargas in unprecedented fashion, blasting the experienced welterweight campaigner out in just 80 seconds.
Conor Benn called out Amir KhanCredit: Dave Thompson Matchroom Boxing
It meant the long weeks of hard graft, time away from his newborn son Eli and refraining from chocolaty treats were all worthwhile.
But as a super-fight with Amir Khan or splash across the pond now present itself, Benn is first worried about filling his boots after dieting over Easter.
He said: “Don’t you worry about that, I’ll make up for that.
“I’ll make up for that don’t you worry. I’ve got two lots of pancakes I want to order tomorrow from the breakfast club.
“Don’t you worry about that mate.”
Benn, 24, improved to 18-0 and sent a frightening message out to the division as he dispatched of Vargas in record time.
But the rising star is not worried about his ferocious fists fighting off the chance to face Khan.
With a hope to return by August, Benn will leave Eddie Hearn and head coach Tony Sims in charge of mapping out the next move.

He said: “I think Amir will want the fight. I want the fight. It’s easy to be made.
“Again, that’s up to my promoters. I’m not bothered. I focus on doing what I’ve got to do.
“I let Eddie and my trainer do what they’ve got to do and I focus on what I’ve got to do, which is training hard.”
Benn is the self-proclaimed No1 welterweight in the country, and he dared Khan and Kell Brook, both 34, or Josh Kelly, 27, to prove him otherwise.
But if business cannot be done amongst his countrymen, a trip back Stateside, where the Brit beat Brandon Sanudo in 2017, is also on the agenda.
Adrien Broner, 31, and Shawn Porter, 33, were among the names on Benn’s lips after he smashed Vargas.
He added: “I’d have any American, I’d have any Yank.
“It doesn’t bother me. I’ll have any Yank. I’m a fighting man – that’s it. That’s all there is to it.”

Ben Askren shows off funky boxing robe he will wear for Jake Paul fight as ex-UFC star says he looks like ‘pimp’

BEN ASKREN has revealed the robe he will wear for his much-anticipated fight against YouTube star Jake Paul next weekend. The 36-year-old, who made his name as a UFC star, showed off the attire he will drape over himself on his way to the ring with a post to his followers on social media.
‘Funky Ben’ showed off his brilliant robe for the bout next SaturdayCredit: Instagram / @benaskren
Askren is the underdog for the fight against PaulCredit: Instagram / @benaskren
The eclectic robe was a mix of brown and red, with the words ‘Funky Ben Askren’ on the back of it.
Speaking on Instagram, he said: “Boxer or Pimp??? 😂😂😂 @coinflipatm you guys rock.”
One follower reacted to the post by saying: “Give us the funk!!!”
And another added: “That robe is a thing of beauty.”
Askren, who is an accomplished wrestler, is making his debut as a professional boxer after crossing over from MMA where he boasts a record of 19 wins and two defeats.
He is probably best known for being knocked out in just five seconds by Jorge Masvidal in July 2019.
Meanwhile, Paul has had two pro contests, winning both of them by knockout against fellow internet star AnEsonGib and basketball player Nate Robinson.
But Askren insisted earlier this week that it is impossible to tell whether Paul is a good boxer.

Paul and Askren are set to face off next weekend

Speaking about his opponent, he told The Metro: “We haven’t seen anything.
“The level of his competition was so low that it was almost impossible to tell if he is actually good at this.
“If there is one thing people respect about all fighters it’s the toughness to deal with adversity in battle and we have not seen that out of him.
“I don’t think he was hit hard by either one of those guys. They were so incredibly terrible at boxing. So we haven’t seen anything out of him yet.”

Despite all Amir Khan’s benevolence, I believe he has tarnished image with eight-episode BBC show Meet The Khans

AMIR KHAN is said to be worth around £23million.He earned it the hard way by risking his life in the ring, so nobody could begrudge him a penny of his fortune.
Amir Khan’s new BBC reality show has damaged his imageCredit: PA:Press Association
When Khan was a baby-faced 17-year-old he brought honour to Britain by winning a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics.
He continued to bring even more kudos to this country by turning pro and then becoming a two-time world champion.
Amir is unquestionably one of the most likable and talented fighters produced on this island and he has always respected his fans. He is media friendly, forever cheerful, available and helpful.
Much admired for his philanthropy, he set up a foundation which provides large sums of money to charities in Asia and Africa, as well as at home.
Khan strongly supports women who are the victims of violence, is an ambassador for the NSPCC and he allows underprivileged kids to use his state-of-the-art gym.
In recognition of his services to his home town, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Bolton.
Yet despite all his benevolence, I believe Amir has now severely tarnished his image by agreeing, together with his wife Faryal, to take part in an excruciatingly bad eight-episode BBC reality show Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton.
It goes out on Monday nights — and I have watched the first four while cringing in horror.
It’s in the worst possible taste and only those who take some pleasure in seeing obscene ostentation will find it enjoyable.
This is a vehicle for the Khans to flaunt their wealth and their shameless love of extravagance of the worst kind.
Amir is filmed driving around Bolton in his red Lamborghini and lets it be known he has a Rolls-Royce in the garage — which he probably takes to the supermarket.
There were scenes of the two of them relaxing on a luxury yacht he rented when they were visiting Dubai.
There are constant shots of his lavishly furnished mansion — and Faryal is forever being shown in her bedroom wearing her bling and designer clothes.
In this week’s programme, Amir was in a Mayfair jeweller deciding which £100,000 watch he should buy. He has let it be known he bought his son a £30,000 Rolex for his first birthday.
The way I look at it, is that I work very hard for itAmir Khan
Justifying his opulent lifestyle, Amir said: “The way I look at it, is that I work very hard for it.
“I’m always one punch away from getting hurt, so I like to treat myself or treat my wife. But I do respect money and that’s one of the reasons I do a lot of charity work.”
Faryal chimed in: “It’s not up to us to tell people what to think. But in the show we are completely honest.
“We can’t really apologise for who we are. We’re going to be our real selves, whether anyone likes it or not.”
Amir added: “I’ve watched a lot of these reality shows and I like them because it gets to the real person, what they are really about, what they are really like.”
By criticising Amir, I now know what the person who shot Bambi felt like.

He doesn’t seem to realise he hasn’t done himself any favours by displaying how filthy rich he is for the world to see.
No doubt there are many of his fans who will have joined the millions that have lost jobs or even gone bankrupt due to the pandemic — and they won’t be too impressed.
    I am certainly not either.

Both have dropped a significant amount of weight ahead of the fight, and Bjornsson took to Instagram to reveal his latest transformation.
The Game of Thrones star – known as Thor – boxed in an exhibition against Irish cruiserweight Steven Ward in January.
But Hall, who was hit with criticism of his boxing skills by UFC legend Joe Rogan, has remained unfazed.
The Brit has undergone a drastic body transformation of his own, despite still eating 7,000 calories a day during training.
He revealed he cut down to 25st 5lb in the summer.
And that is still over two stone heavier than Nikolai Valuev, the heaviest champion in history.
But punching legend Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch weighed as heavy as 29st 7lb the night he fought Joe Siciliano in 2007.
Hall would far outweigh the current crop of heavyweight stars, and his coach wants the former World’s Strongest Man to one day be among them.

The trainer, who goes by the name Lydon, said: “I’m seeing massive differences every time Eddie comes to training.
“I give him something to work on, he comes back and he’s nailed it.
“We’ve got him from being like a man who is like a steel bar and quite rigid because of his size – the size is still there – but now he’s got a lot of whip in his punches.
“He’s really punching crisp and hard.
“I said to Ed that by the time he boxes Thor, I want him in the position where he’s able to box any British heavyweight.
“He’s doing ringcraft, technique and by the time he’s ready to box this time next year I feel Ed will be able to box any British heavyweight.”

CONOR BENN made a HUGE statement with a first-round triumph over Samuel Vargas. And after the fight Benn called out Amir Khan for a battle of Britain.
Follow ALL the action with our live blog below…
    REPORT
BIG DADDY Conor Benn blitzed respected welterweight hard man Samuel Vargas inside 80 blistering seconds and called out Amir Khan.
The new father had baby Eli’s name etched on his shorts for the first time since his January birth and made quick work of the veteran to rush home to his new family.
Father Nigel spoke before the fight about how the 24-year-old’s jab has continued to improve rapidly and he showed it again with a succession of arrow-like lead hands.
But the Colombian was stunned by an early right hand and Benn unloaded almost a dozen accurate and brutal punches before the referee jumped in.
Somehow Vargas did not hit the deck but he was utterly shell shocked by The Destroyer who had barely worked up a sweat and still had the breath to call for a mouthwatering all-English clash.
“Statement made,” the new Benneration roared. “Nobody has banged him out in one round. Give me a proper test.
“Give me Amir Khan, or is he too busy on reality shows now.
“I just proved I can deal with hype and pressure and pressure creates diamonds.
“I am ready for the top dogs, I want them, I want to test myself.
“I was expecting a hard 12-round fight tonight but I am the most rapidly improving fighter in the world, not just Great Britain.
“I was hitting him and it felt good, he was there to hit so I let my hands go.
“I did not get hit with a single thing in there, if it had gone longer I would have shown you even more and I am not even in my prime yet.”
The tattooed ace went to 18-0 with a faultless performance against a veteran who had only previously been stopped by the absolute elites of the division.
Khan had to climb off the floor to beat Vargas back in 2018 but Benn battered that effort in rapid time.
And 34-year-old Bolton hero was then the target of Benn’s remaining adrenaline as he ordered their shared promoter Eddie Hearn to get on the phone.

    SHIELD OF HONOUR

She said: “I punch too hard for Claressa Shields.
“I do, I punch far too hard and she doesn’t wanna know.

Benn, 17-0, has already called out Amir Khan and Kell Brook but all of that will count for nothing unless he gets past the test of Vargas.

Round 3 – All over in round three as Marshall scores another knockdown and this time Lindberg stays down.
Very comfortable for the champion but worth remembering Lindberg only got the call to fight this week.

Ebanie Bridges suffers gruesome eye injury as Shannon Courtenay earns world bantamweight crown in bloodbath brawl

SHANNON COURTENAY became Britain’s newest world champion with a bloodbath brawl win over Ebanie Bridges. In just her eighth professional fight, the former Watford wild child claimed the WBA bantamweight title, battering an ugly eye injury onto the Australian’s face.

Courtenay had accused Bridges of cheapening the sport in the build-up with the racy lingerie she wears for weigh-ins, but both women put on a gutsy show of heart and chin.
The accurate ringside judges called it: 97-94, 98-92 and 98-92 and the pre-fight bad blood evaporated as the two battered and brave combatants hugged.
Courtenay cried: “I can’t put it into words, me and my whole team have worked so hard.
“I boxed better and had the cuter shots, she was trying to knock me out and I just had to stop trading.
“My jab popped her eye and that was where and when I boxed best.”
Courtenay enjoyed the best of the opener, especially when a heavy right hand cracked Bridges’ temple.
Bridges, a busty part-time maths teacher back in Australia, was game and always walked forward throwing shots.
Bridges, 34, battled back into the fight in the second with a couple of meaty rights and both sets of blonde braids were soaked red by a cut by the end of the session on Courtenay’s scalp.

But the maths teacher ignored her critics and donned the racy getup pre-fight
Bridges proved her chin in the third when Courtenay, 27, landed a booming right hand that drove into her chin and neck but did not drop the underdog.
Bridges fired back with a counter left hook that clipped the Watford ace but did not hurt her.
The pristine white tops both women wore to the Copper Box ring were bright pink by the end of the fourth as Courtenay’s wound continued to ooze.
At the start of every round Bridges barrelled in and the fifth was no different as she tried to catch the Brit cold again.
But it wasn’t until halfway through the two-minute round that another counter left hook landed flush.
But Bridges was whacked just before the bell and and her tattooed legs buckled by a fizzing right hand.

Bridges dug in again at the start of the sixth and scored when Courtenay appeared to tire.
And the seventh was another successful stanza for the danger from Down Under as Courtenay was whacked too often.
By the start of round eight Bridges had a grizzly welt over her left eye that the referee checked and her corner worked frantically on with an iron compress.
The ninth was another slugfest and Bridges appeared rocked by a series of digs that went unanswered but she survived another two-minute round.
Bridges confirmed she could not see out of her left eye for the final session but went out again half-blinded and was punished for her bravery with shots to head and torso until the final bell rang.

Her debut professional bout came against Mahiecka Pareno, which the 34-year-old won with a majority decision.
Bridges was tired of getting a “weird reaction” when she told people what she does for work.
She told the Daily Mail: “They never believe me because of the way I look.
“I take it to school and they kids really love it.
“They ask me all the time, when’s your next fight miss? When’s your next fight?”
During her fight with Pareno, Bridges broke her ankle but continued to carry on and defeat her opponent.
Bridges was a bodybuilder for seven years but decided to switch to boxing, which was a tough transition for her.
She told Macarthur Advertiser: “I was happy with my success in bodybuilding and had nothing more to prove.

“The transition to boxing was tough on my body, but I persevered and came through.”
