Tyson Fury must fight soon with or WITHOUT Anthony Joshua as talks reach crunch time, reveals Gypsy King’s dad John

TYSON FURY must fight soon with or WITHOUT Anthony Joshua as talks reach crunch time, his dad John revealed. Fury, 32, and Joshua, 31, signed a two-fight deal in March, and promoters gave themselves a 28-day period to have a venue and date set in stone.

That deadline expired last weekend, but various site offers have been presented to both camps.
But if a deal cannot be agreed to fight at least by August, Fury’s dad warned his son will be forced to move on to a new opponent.
John, 56, told Sky Sports: “If this goes on any longer, he will need tune-up fights.
“Inactivity plays a big part in boxing. You’ve got to have activity under those lights.
“As a father, I wouldn’t be doing my job right. I won’t let it happen if my son isn’t on it. And if I say something to Tyson, he will take it on board.
“If the fight happens in June, July or even August we will take it. But if it runs into next year then we need to fight.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn has travelled the world speaking to various suitors looking to host the historic undisputed title decider.
But with current questions marks over live crowds and travel abroad, interested parties have made it clear they will front more money by the end of the year.

John said: “As of 9pm [on Tuesday], nothing has changed. I know they are working their backsides off to get this over the line.
“But it’s proving to be a difficult one for Eddie Hearn. He’s gone to all four corners of the world trying to sell this fight.
“Nobody wants to invest because it’s the wrong timing for their business.
“They want to make money out of it, but the timing won’t allow them to make money out of it.
“But the world wants it. They have been in a rush with it. When you rush a cake, it doesn’t taste right.
“This fight could be made a lot easier, a lot simpler, in the coming months when people get back to easier ways, to normality.
“At this moment in time, nothing has changed. There are rumours, lots of rumours, but nothing set in stone as of 9pm [Tuesday night].
“I told him ‘sit tight’. If they make it, good. If they don’t… the clock ran out last Saturday.

“If we didn’t want this fight we wouldn’t still be negotiating. We want this fight. We will give it every opportunity to put this fight on in June or July.
“We are sitting tight, awaiting a contract, venue, date. We will sign. We are ready to go. We don’t need a long training camp, we can go in the next five weeks.”
Current coronavirus restrictions have all-but ruled out hopes of a dream Battle of Britain at the Three Lions’ Wembley Stadium.
Instead, the all-English unification is set for an away fixture with the Middle East among the lucrative suitors.
But Gypsy traveller Fury has no preference where the fight is staged, as long as there is a referee and Joshua stood inside the ring.
John said: “Tyson will fight anywhere, with AJ or anyone.
“Wherever they make this fight happen, Tyson will be happy to oblige them. It’s not a problem.
“Ideally I’d like it [in the UK] but I don’t think that will happen.”

July 24 has been earmarked as the date for the long-awaited Battle of Britain, although Warren reckons AJ’s coach’s involvement at the Olympics could scupper those plans.
Fury’s co-promoter told talkSPORT: “I’m seeing all these various stories, ‘It’s gonna be Wembley on July 24,’ and so forth.
“But I don’t see how any of that can happen in July or even early August from my perspective.
“Robert McCracken is AJ’s trainer, he’s also our Olympic team’s head coach, so he’s gonna be in Japan – I think the Olympics start on July 23, and I don’t know what the quarantine period is.
“He can’t be in two places at once. That’s if Robert McCracken’s still training AJ, maybe he’s not training the Olympic squad, I’m not sure. That’s one issue.
“I don’t believe this fight will go on until – if it’s late August we’ll be very lucky, maybe September.”

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, and Singapore have all expressed an interest in hosting Joshua vs Fury.
But talks over staging the multi-million-pound bout at Wembley have also been had.
Warren added: “We’ve been having discussions at government level with a view to try and get this fight on in the UK if nothing else comes in from elsewhere.
“I’m hoping something will come in from elsewhere.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is confident the fight will be finalised in the near future, saying last weekend: “We are very close.
“Tomorrow [Sunday] both guys will be presented with the options for a fight in the summer.
“Joshua doesn’t talk much about fights – but he talks when it’s close. You can feel the excitement building.
“We are in a great place with several offers on the table. I’m quietly confident. It was nice to see Fury post with enthusiasm because he feels that we are close.
“The teams will get together. I will try to see Bob Arum on Tuesday. We’re nearly there. We have worked really hard and we don’t want to give in.

“It [Wembley] will be presented. Financially, it’s not at the races.
“The question is: can we get 100,000 fans on July 24, the potential date in London? The answer is ‘we hope so’. It is difficult to make a decision on that basis.
“This is why it’s taking longer than expected. It’s the logistics, testing policies, crowds.
“But now is the time to make this fight. Now. The summer. We may not get this opportunity again.

Francis Ngannou can BEAT Tyson Fury in a boxing fight, says the UFC champion’s coach Dewey Cooper

TYSON FURY could LOSE to Francis Ngannou if the pair meet in the boxing ring, the MMA champion’s coach has claimed.A feud has developed between the heavyweight kings after Ngannou, 34, discussed the possibility of a fight.

Frenchman Ngannou has opened the door to a fightCredit: Getty
While Fury, 32, would be the huge favourite in the home territory of a boxing contest, Dewey Cooper said it would not be a foregone conclusion.
The coach told RT Sport: “Tyson Fury right now is the best boxer in the world.
“Tyson is difficult for any heavyweight because of the attributes, the speed, the boxing ability, the good defence, the confidence and swagger. Tyson’s a real one and Tyson is a tough fight for anybody in boxing.
“But Francis definitely can fight any heavyweight with time and amending the training a little bit. He can definitely do it because Francis does have power.
“However with a boxing glove the power would decrease a little bit compared to what it is with the MMA gloves.
“Because an MMA glove is only 4oz while a boxing glove is 10oz so that makes a difference. A lot of little intangible things.

“Of course he can box and of course he could eventually beat someone like a Tyson Fury, for sure.”
Cooper, 46, won 19 of his 25 pro boxing fights during a career that also featured kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA contests.
The American has since worked with Ngannou and a number of other fighters, helping the Cameroonian claim the UFC heavyweight belt last month.
A showdown with legendary brawler Jon Jones is on the cards but the newly-crowned champ recently told Mike Tyson of his ‘main dream’ of moving to boxing.

After namechecking WBC belt-holder Fury, the Gypsy King vowed to make ‘easy work’ of Ngannou.
The slanging match escalated as Ngannou aimed a dart at Fury’s cut eyebrow in his 2019 victory over Otto Wallin.
He declared: “If this guy did this to you, what do you think I would do?”
But the Brit fired back: “You would do absolutely nothing, I’d smoke you in the first round.”

Greatest-ever heavyweight boxing fights including Holyfield vs Tyson and Ali vs Frazier ahead of Joshua and Fury bout

ANTHONY JOSHUA vs Tyson Fury will be the biggest fight in British boxing history – but where could this rivalry land in the rich annals of all-time heavyweight duels? Two British combatants in Saudi Arabia are not going to captivate or capitalise on the giant American market – that likes their boxing late in the night long after their mainstream mainstays.
Tyson Fury will soon fight to become unified heavyweight champion of the worldCredit: Reuters
Anthony Joshua’s meeting with the Gypsy King is set to enter the annals of historyCredit: Instagram
But the battle will draw the UK’s biggest pay-per-view audience ever – with promoter Eddie Hearn targeting around 2.2million buys.
And Fury’s veteran promoter Frank Warren has claimed that the all-English clash between two hugely contrasting characters – and the spectacular build-up we will hopefully see – drums up a hysteria last seen around the 1966 home World Cup win.
The form books can be ripped up. Fury showed enough vulnerability to need 47-stitches for a cut inflicted by unknown southpaw Otto Wallin before becoming the sort of powerhouse who can obliterate Deontay Wilder inside seven sensational rounds.
And Joshua went from being bashed all over New York by Andy Ruiz Jr to showing enough poise (and his old trademark power) to avenge the loss and then savage Kubrat Pulev.
This is a pick’em fight where partisan crowds will stick to their man in all weather – and the rest of the world will sit on the fence or take a punt.
It almost certainly can’t fail to take its place alongside some of the most celebrated heavyweight fights of the modern era, when Muhammad Ali and a few friends changed the face of the sport forever.
Here, SunSport looks at the some of the iconic heavyweight clashes that were absolutely made for the era of colour television.
Deontay Wilder draws with Tyson Fury (December 2018, LA)
No boxing fan should ever let time diminish the superhuman strength the Gypsy King showed in rising in that iconic 12th round.
In his quest for the Bronze Bomber’s WBC crown, Fury had already been dropped in the ninth.
Fury memorably bounced back from this 12th-round flooring by Deontay WilderCredit: Getty
But it was the Lazarus-like rising in the final minutes, after two violent flush shots, that stunned the world.
How he went on to attack Wilder and dominate the remainder of the round remains a mystery.
The theatre of Fury’s rise, when he is clearly unconscious for the first six seconds of Jack Reiss’ count, sparked dozens of memes and comparisons with WWE icon The Undertaker.
And it helped secure the 6ft 9in Brit the giant ESPN and Top Rank contract that helped put him on equal billing with Anthony Joshua and set their rivalry into motion.
Anthony Joshua beats Wladimir Klitschko (April 2017, London)
Fury quite fairly likes reminding AJ that he had dethroned the heavyweight legend three years earlier with a supreme clinic in elusive, points-scoring boxing.
But Joshua’s Wembley KO of Dr Steelhammer was far more thrilling and thumped the legend into retirement.
AJ sent Wladimir Klitschko flying with a brutal uppercutCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Just a few miles from his North London home, the Watford hunk battered Klitschko into the canvas in the fifth and looked moments from glory.
But the ten-year champ stunned the Brit and he was rocked for the remainder of the round before a right hand smashed him senseless and down in the sixth.
Klitschko failed to capitalise and in the 11th round AJ starched him with perhaps the most iconic uppercut in British boxing history.
Somehow Klitschko remained upright from that looping dig but he was dropped twice after and then stopped on his giant feet.
Lennox Lewis beats Vitali Klitschko (June 2003, LA)
The last undisputed heavyweight utterly dominated a lot of his fights, infamously stunned in a couple, robbed in one, avenged all three defeats, and beat Mike Tyson when he was past his prime.
So his bloodbath retirement bout with the older Klitschko remains his most thrilling. The fact Vitali is still fuming about it now and fans want to argue their case makes it a great fight.
Vitali Klitschko’s face was left battered by Lennox LewisCredit: AP:Associated Press
Lewis was a famously sluggish starter and he let the short-notice sub opponent take the upper hand.
But a trademark right hand from the Englishman slashed a gruesome gash into Dr Ironfist, who was sadly not medically qualified to tend to his own wound.
The bout was stopped after the sixth with Klitschko 58-56 up on all three cards.
Lewis promised a rematch but then retired – and the row over how the remaining six would have gone rages on.
Evander Holyfield beats Mike Tyson (September 1996, Las Vegas)
The groggy bite-fight rematch that followed this will remain one of the most notorious in boxing’s endless list of shame. But this was a far longer and more fulfilling cracker for all the right reasons.
After the Douglas dethroning, Tyson was on an eight-fight win streak and had won both the WBC and WBA titles.
Evander Holyfield shared some memorable moments with Mike TysonCredit: AP:Associated Press
The Real Deal was 34 and had lost three fights in the previous four years, so he was expected to be a sacrificial lamb for the hungry new savage.
Tyson’s first punch looked like it could win the fight, but the former undisputed cruiserweight clung on and slowly punched and bullied his way back into the bout, standing up to Tyson in a way nobody had before.
Holyfield was brutally generous with his head and he dropped Tyson with a perfectly-timed left uppercut at the end of the sixth.
The veteran went up through the gears and had Tyson spark out at the end of the tenth – but he somehow remained vertical. His corner refused to pull their man out so he was stopped while on his feet but senseless at the start of the 11th.
Riddick Bowe beats Evander Holyfield (November 1992, Las Vegas)
The first installment of the three-fight rivalry was certainly the best and round 10 remains one of the greatest single rounds in the history of the sport.
If the pesky paraglider who gatecrashed the rematch had interrupted that iconic three-minute masterpiece, the Vegas crowd might have hung him with his own chords.
Holyfield fought back from some monstrous punishment by Riddick BoweCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Holyfield was five years older and two stone lighter but held up to some almighty abuse and even bounced up off the floor in the 11th, when any right-minded soul would have surrendered.
All three judges correctly gave Big Daddy the win but the tenth round has eclipsed even the scorecards.
An instant barrage rocked Holyfield and an uppercut almost beheaded him – but he refused to fold.
And by the halfway point it was clear Bowe had punched himself out so Holyfield, with about half an eye left, slashed and bashed his way back and they slugged away for a moment after the bell and even helped hold each other up before the interval.
Buster Douglas beats Mike Tyson (February 1990, Tokyo)
The 42-1 underdog had recently lost his beloved mum and was expected to be battered within an inch of joining her.
But Tyson had lost mentor Cus D’Amato and split from Kevin Rooney, leaving his personal and professional life in disarray, with parasite powerhouse Don King captaining the sinking ship.
Buster Douglas pulled off a monumental upset to down Iron MikeCredit: Reuters
Douglas was decked in the eighth and Tyson’s most diehard fans still complain he was saved by a long count.
But what happened in the tenth is not up for debate as Douglas battered the Baddest Man on the Planet to the floor after he had partied away his ability to recover.
Muhammad Ali beats Joe Frazier (October 1975, Manila)
The first fight changed the sport forever and the second was a decent non-title bout that has faded with time ,but the third might be the finest sporting spectacle ever.
It is no exaggeration to say both combatants almost died by putting their lives and souls on the line and being too proud and tough to quit.
Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier fought out a true thriller in 1975Credit: AP:Associated Press
In the sweltering heat of a 10am Philippines morning, in an arena with a tin roof, the ageing pair slugged and sweated it out in a packed sauna, until Frazier’s legendary promoted Eddie Futch stopped his man from beginning the 15th and final round, uttering the immortal line: “No one will forget what you did here today”.
Over in the Ali corner, he was begging coach Angelo Dundee to cut off his gloves and end the agony a round early too, but Futch beat them to the white towel.
Neither man was ever the same fighter again but Ali’s success helped him carry on for six years and ten fights too long, until Parkinson’s disease was gnawing into him while he was standing in the ring on the cusp of his 40th birthday, facing young starving monsters like Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick.
Somehow, watching it back now 46 years later, there is a part of you that still wonders if Frazier might just nick it. And that can only be magic.
Muhammad Ali beats George Foreman (October 1974, Kinshasa)
Big George brutalised Joe Frazier inside just two one-sided rounds in January 1973.
The same little left-hook slugger who just two years and and two fights earlier had outgunned Muhammad Ali.
Ali famously came out on top in the Rumble in the JungleCredit: AP:Associated Press
So when the gruff 25-year-old unbeaten beast took on the 32-year-old, twice-beaten showboater in Zaire, now DR Congo, a Serious Harming on Safari was considered far more likely than a Rumble in the Jungle.
Perhaps the long delays and Foreman’s appetites in his personal life drained away at his performance. But Ali still pulled out an upset for the ages and put Rope-A-Dope in the dictionary forever.
Giant thudding Foreman was allowed to whack away at Ali’s arms and torso until the 40-0 sensation was utterly spent.
Ali clipped Big George with a right hand in the eighth and the yells of ‘timber’ could have been heard all the way back in the US as the behemoth toppled – and Ali was The Greatest again.
Joe Frazier beats Muhammad Ali (March 1971, New York)
At the start of the 1960s, Beatlemania took over the world and then America beat Russia to the Moon in ‘69.
These things were captured by the newfangled television contraption and then The Fight of the Century was made for 1971.
Fans clamoured to watch Frazier versus Ali in 1971Credit: Getty

There were so many enthralling storylines that made this fight the transcendent event it was.
Cassius Clay had somehow vanquished Sonny Liston and then disgusted America by ditching his name, joining the Nation of Islam and rejecting the draft for the Vietnam War, for which he lost three years of his career.
During that tragic hiatus, 5ft 11in Frazier had become king of the big men and even sent money to Ali to help him feed his family.
But, once the fight was made, Ali used all his lip and charisma to make the bout a bitter cannot-miss battle for the ages – a trick he repeated incredibly throughout his all-too-long career.
Frank Sinatra, the biggest rock star of his time, was so desperate for a ticket he took a job as a photographer and Burt Lancaster, the Hollywood superstar of the era, was a commentator.
Ali made the brighter start but he could not get to grips with Frazier’s trademark and almost predictable left hook.
That looping honey shot landed dozens of times to bust Ali’s jaw and drop him in the 15th and final round.
The judges and referee gave Frazier the win and helped one of the most celebrated rivalries/brotherhoods in sport.

Oscar De La Hoya,  a six-weight world champion, announced he will make a comeback on July 3 although an opponent has yet to be named.
And it appears as though his people are busy in their attempts to find an opponent to go toe-to-toe with him.
Alvarez, who recently suffered a controversial disqualification to Iuri Lapicus on Wednesday, confirmed he is seriously considering accepting the offer.
He told ESPN: “Recently we’ve been hearing from Oscar De La Hoya’s guys.
“I’m fixated on the ONE championship belt, I’m laser-focused on getting my world title.
“I think there’s going to be a lull for a bit, if that happens I’d love to get in there and mix it up with him.
“That’d be a hell of a fight, I’d do pretty damn good against him. I’d be crazy excited to fight him.
“They’re serious. They want a get a deal done this week.”

De La Hoya finished his career in 2008 with a record of 39-6 and won 11 world titles during that journey.
After hanging up his gloves, the American went on to become a successful promoter and has rising star Ryan Garcia under his Golden Boy Promotions banner.
Boxing comebacks are all the rage right now after Mike Tyson’s against Roy Jones Jr late last year.
De La Hoya has already called out Gennadiy Golovkin, bizarrely claiming it would be ‘easy’ to beat the Kazakh warrior.
He has also being linked with fighting Marcos Maidana as well as Canelo Alvarez following their acrimonious split.

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE has launched a blistering attack on Billy Joe Saunders, branding the WBO super-middleweight champ a ‘disgrace’.Andrade was set to throw down with the Brit in October 2018 before a failed drug test – the result of Saunders using a nasal spray – scuppered their Boston brawl.

Demetrius Andrade has branded Billy Joe Saunders a ‘lying disgrace’
The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission denied Saunders a license to compete, despite the British Boxing Board of Control clearing the 31-year-old of any wrongdoing.
But American Andrade reckons the Welwyn warrior never wanted to share the ring with him.
During an appearance on Brian Custer’s Last Stand Podcast, a fired-up Andrade – who will face Brit Liam Williams this weekend – said: “Smoke and mirrors on Billy Joe’s side.
“He went out there and said, ‘I’ll fight Demetrius.’ He didn’t want to wait on Canelo until May.
“But he pretty much just used my name for leverage to make the deal, meaning ‘yo we want this much money or we’re going to fight Demetrius Andrade.’

Saunders has been training at the UFC’s Performance Institute in Las Vegas ahead of the biggest fight of his career, which he goes into a big underdog.

He told talkSPORT: “I’m the seventh Brit he’s faced, he’s dealt with six of them very comfortably.

“The Brits like dancing and moving and thinking they’ve gotta run away, but I will be there for him to hit.

“He’s not got the best engine in the world, Canelo.

In reality, McGregor boxed very conventionally and with success, winning the early rounds before tiring late on and getting stopped on his feet.
But Mir, who twice won UFC gold, promised he will ditch traditional boxing tactics to leave even 39-fight veteran Cunningham bemused.
He told SunSport: “Trying to change into a boxer would be a mistake, how am I going to become a boxer in eight weeks? It’s impossible
“But we do hands in MMA and we do throw punches but there’s a foundation in boxing and the intricacies and different styles in MMA can throw off a lot of boxers.
“I’ve seen it where I’ve gone to gyms, my style is awkward for the conventional boxer to fight, it’s just different.
“You saw at times Conor do that, he took angles and footwork from MMA and got it on Mayweather but he kind of got behind him and showboated.

“Those are the mistakes he made and we’re going to learn from. I’ll use the different angles, attacks and strategies that we use in MMA.
“I’m also going to make sure I hurt him when I’m in those positions, take advantage.”
Mir, 41, left the UFC in 2017 before signing for rivals Bellator, where he lost his first two fights before returning with a win in 2019.
He is one of the most experienced campaigners on the roster, but was forced to start from the bottom as he signed to make his boxing debut with Triller.
Mir was initially set to face American legend Antonio Tarver, 52, before Cunningham, 44, was instead brought in as a replacement.
The transitioning of sports at his age has caused Mir to knock out any complacency he had while in the prime of his MMA career.
He admitted: “All humans are great at bulls***ing themselves. Where my bulls*** came from I always knew I was smarter than any guy I fought.
“So I’d be like I know more about fighting than the guy I’m fighting, so I could be like, ‘Oh, I’ll skip this session’.

“It was an arrogance, now I’m fighting in a boxing match, now I’m not the smarter one so I have to be in better shape, do the basics, be razor sharp and not make mistakes.”
Mir has backed Askren’s experience to trump Paul’s youth and finer skills in the night’s main-event, predicting a points win for the Olympic wrestler.
But he has opened the door to one day fighting 24-year-old YouTuber star Paul, so long as they can figure out a way around the weight disparity.
Mir said: “I don’t know if they would make that work, because that’s a lot of size difference, but yeah I’d definitely be up for it.
“Just because it’s a great way to go out on big platforms as martial artists. The more people we can fight in front of, the more of a showcase it is.
“All athletes and performers like to go out in front of a crowd because it’s like that’s our true payday.
“Yeah we get paid and there’s a monetary value but really having people value our accomplishments is truly one of the big payments fighters are looking for.
“So fighting on a big stage with an opponent that can bring that crowd and displaying your skills is the ultimate gift.”
