Jake Paul v Conor McGregor ‘is a lot more competitive than UFC star against Floyd Mayweather’, Eddie Hearn says

BOXING promoter Eddie Hearn has thrown his support behind Jake Paul fighting Conor McGregor.Just moments after he annihilated former basketball star Nate Robinson late last year, Paul called out the UFC legend for a boxing scrap.

It would be a real battle of the novices. Paul has only had two fights, winning both by KO while McGregor has had one – a KO loss to Floyd Mayweather.
But Hearn seems a fan of the two getting it on in the ring.
Speaking to Sirius XM Boxing, the Matchroom boss said: “I think it’s reasonably competitive, especially with the weight difference.
“Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor is a lot more competitive than Conor vs Floyd Mayweather.”
YouTube sensation Paul moved to 2-0 after obliterating former Robinson with a brutal second-round KO.
Ahead of the fight, Paul had made headlines for claiming he would ‘kick Conor McGregor’s a***’ in the boxing ring.
And the internet star doubled down on the claims after knocking out Robinson by calling out the UFC superstar and his teammate Dillon Danis.
Paul has also set his sights on avenging his brother Logan’s defeat to rival KSI but admitted he fancied his chances against his sibling as well.

Speaking in his post-fight interview, the YouTube star said: “I’ve been training my ass off for the past year. I’m taking this seriously.
“There’s a long list of opponents that I want — Conor McGregor, Dillon Danis. I’m going to knock them both out.
“There’s my brother, KSI on the line, Austin McBroom. I want to be in this sport for a long time. I’m in love with it so why not?”

Logan Paul mocks Ben Askren and says anyone who thinks ex-UFC star will beat his brother Jake are ‘f***ing morons’

LOGAN PAUL mocked Ben Askren and said anyone who thinks the retired UFC welterweight will beat his brother Jake are ‘f***ing morons’. Jake faces the former Olympic wrestler tonight in Atlanta with opinions divided on how the clash of styles and experience will unfold.

But big brother Logan, 26, already has his mind made up, and referenced Askren’s physique on the scales.
He said: “I get it, guys I like Ben Askren. We like him, he’s a good guy, he’s funny, he’s entertaining, great personality.
“But if you think for one f***ing second, that this guy is going to beat my brother tomorrow, you’re a f***ing moron.
“Straight up. Like y’all thought and afterwards everyone’s going to be like, ‘Oh, we should have seen it coming’.
    “No s***. You’re crazy.”
Both scaled 191lb (13st 6lb) but Paul, 24, looked significantly leaner than Askren, 36, who retired from the UFC in 2019.
The YouTuber took a swipe at his opponent’s body, and revealed he will dedicate the fight to his bodyguard Shamir Bolivar, who sadly passed away this month.
Paul said: “I see a guy who’s underestimating me, I see a guy who is taking this as a joke and I see a guy who said, ‘I have to take a s***’ during the face-off.

“This is the last 24 hours we will all have to hear Ben Askren. This one means a lot for me, this one is for Shadow.
“I don’t believe he makes it out of two rounds; look at the guy, he has a beer belly so he clearly didn’t take training camp seriously.
“We all did the talking and the entertainment s*** but now it’s time to let the fists fly.”

Anthony Joshua says Wembley would ‘be ideal’ for ‘end of July or early August’ unification blockbuster versus Tyson Fury

ANTHONY JOSHUA is still clinging to the faint hope his summer undisputed showdown with Tyson Fury is at Wembley. The Watford icon insists his local stadium, which hosted the iconic 2018 KO win over Wladimir Klitschko, remains top of his wish list for the clash with the Gypsy King.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed a UK venue would cost both fighters a pay cut of up to 50 per cent as countries like Saudi Arabia – the front runner – are willing to pay huge site fees to host.
But 31-year-old AJ told Jonathan Ross the home of English football would be his first choice for the all-English clash.
“I’ve signed my side of the deal,” Joshua confirmed.
“We’ve sent him a good offer, one I’m sure he won’t refuse. He wants the fight, no doubt about it.
“So do I and more than me and him, the whole public want it.
“I put my crystal ball out there and I say it’s going to happen this year 100 per cent.
“I’m pretty sure it’ll be this year. End of July, early August.
“Where? That’s what’s the delay, because of this pandemic. We want to have people coming to the venue.
“It’s just finding the right location. For me, Wembley would be ideal.”

AJ and Fury shared a now legendary sparring session back in 2010 and then bumped into each other while holidaying separately in Marbella last year.
Apart from that their only dealings have been FaceTime calls, with the 6ft 9in WBC champ admitting he sometimes calls to prank his rival.
And AJ hints Fury is not as brave in person as he is over the phone.
When asked if he considers them friends, he said: “I have met him. I don’t even know what we are.
“I’ve seen him face-to-face and people on video and social media are different than face-to-face.”
Soon-to-be-father-of-six Fury is currently in training camp in Las Vegas with eldest son Prince shadowing him and learning the family trade.
AJ is grafting away at his favourite Finchley amateur gym and is too busy to add any children to his family – yet.
But he has plans to overtake his nemesis in the sprog stakes, once he has achieved all he targets in the hurt business.
Eddie Hearn has revealed a UK venue would cost both fighters a pay cut of up to 50 per centCredit: Getty Images – Getty
He said: “I want to have loads.
“Someone said to me ‘when you’re young you don’t want to have kids but, when you’re older and settled down and retired, you wish that you had more kids around you’.
“So I’m just looking ahead – loads for me is probably another six.”
Little JJ is Joshua’s pride and joy and the London 2012 Olympic golden boy wants his lad to watch the Fury fight, once it finally comes around, as the hurt business provides so many life lessons.
He said: “JJ is five, I would like him to watch me fight, I don’t mind.
“What I’d explain to him, more so being a fighter, it’s about chatting to him and saying, ‘This is where I lost, this is how I felt, but I didn’t give up.’
“He’s at that age now where if he’s not good at something he doesn’t want to do it.
“So I try to express to him, ‘Even though you’re not good at it yet, practise makes perfect’.”

Fighters who have called out Jake Paul, from UFC superstar Nate Diaz to female boxing world champ Claressa Shields

JAKE PAUL has put the fight world on notice with his brash arrogance and unlimited self-confidence. Despite having only beaten YouTuber ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, Paul has done so in style.

And the thunder he appears to be stealing from boxing and MMA’s top attractions has irked several of them.
Paul has made it clear his intention is to eventually fight UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
But next up is former MMA star Ben Askren on Saturday night.
But the internet phenomenon is not short of alternatives, and here SunSport runs down the queue waiting in line.
    Dillon Danis, Bellator welterweight
If Paul, 24, can’t get hold of McGregor, 32, the next best thing would be his close friend and training partner Danis, 27.
The pair have been going back-and-forth for years, and recently confronted each other on the streets of LA.
After Paul’s last win, he said: “There’s a long list of opponents that I want – Conor McGregor, Dillon Danis. I’m going to knock them both out.”
Danis’ Bellator promoter Scott Coker recently confirmed the fight talks: “Those conversations are ongoing, and have been happening.”

    Claressa Shields, 3-weight women’s champion
Shields, 25, who just announced plans to debut in MMA next year, told TMZ she would more than welcome a mixed-gender showdown with Paul.
She said: “I, Claressa Shields, will whoop Jake Paul’s ass.
“He can come in the ring weighing 180lb and I will come weighing 168 and I will beat the s**t out of him.”
Paul responded in a tweet: “Don’t get me started about @Claressashields.”

    Amanda Nunes, 2-weight UFC champion
Having grown tired of Paul’s online callouts of McGregor, UFC president White said to TMZ Sports : “I’m thinking of letting Amanda Nunes knock his ass out.”
    To which Nunes, 32, responded: “I’m in! @ufc @danawhite.”
Paul later remarked on Instagram: “You say you don’t want me to fight Conor McGregor because he’s one of the greatest fighters in the world, and I’m just a YouTuber or whatever.
“But then, in a statement today, you say, ‘Oh, I’m thinking about having Amanda Nunes just knock him out,’ but she’s also one of the greatest fighters?”

    Ben Askren, retired UFC welterweight
Askren – an accomplished grappler – announced his retirement from MMA in 2019.
And despite having never been considered a gifted striker, the 36-year-old still believes he would comfortably beat the ‘YouTube bum’.
Askren told MMA Fighting: “Jake Paul wants to box me. I don’t know, I’m not a boxer but I could beat up a bum YouTube celebrity…
“I could box some YouTube bum and get paid for it? What a tremendous livelihood.”
Tonight, we will see what Askren is made of.

    Nate Diaz, UFC welterweight
The UFC veteran surprisingly leapt to the defence of his former rival McGregor, after Paul called him an ‘Irish c***’ and disrespected his fiancee Dee Devlin.
Diaz, 35, tweeted: “Jake Paul u need your ass beat for free u spoiled f*** u can’t really fight dumbs*** your gonna end up with your ass whooped for real somewhere talking like that.”
Paul fired back by telling Diaz ‘I really beat your boy up’ in a sparring session relating to the UFC star’s training partner.
He later tweeted Diaz: ‘You can get the smoke too’.

    Henry Cejudo, ex-UFC champion
Cejudo announced a shock UFC retirement in May – but appears open to crossing over to boxing.
And he was left less than impressed with Paul’s KO over Robinson and claimed he would give his fight purse to charity if the YouTuber beat him.
Cejudo, 34, tweeted: “Yo @jakepaul since you really think you’re a legit fighter by beating up on retired NBA D lister’s who really deserves an academy award for best fall.
“How about we fight and if I can’t stop you I’ll give all money to charity of your choice.”

    Antonio Tarver, retied boxing legend
Tarver called on Mike Tyson to set up a fight between him and Paul.
He has not fought since 2015, but would come out of retirement to stop the new age of outsiders venturing into the ring.
Tarver, 52, wrote on Instagram: “I really want to kick @jakepaul ass for what he did to @naterobinson last night and rid boxing of these clowns once and for all.
“He fought a complete novice so fighting me shouldn’t be a problem… @miketyson make this fight.”

Jericho defeated The Pinnacle’s Dax Harwood in singles action, with Tyson acting as the ‘Special Enforcer’ for the match.
During the clash, the heavyweight icon planted one of his trademark right hands on Cash Wheeler, who was laid out.
The 54-year-old looks in sensational shape as he continues his comeback trail in the ring.
Tyson in November came out of retirement, 15 years after his last fight, to face fellow legend Roy Jones Jr, 52.
The pair boxed to a draw over eight exhibition rounds and both are already planning to fight again.
But still Tyson is set to make a run in AEW and could even one day end up facing Jericho, who he rivalled in WWE.
Jericho, 50, told Digital Spy: “It’s not to say that Mike and I won’t fight each other again in the future.
“We’ve been feuding with each other on-and-off since 2010, so it’s been a decade as it stands.

“But for right now this was the best way to tell the story and I think above and beyond we put together a really captivating two-part mini angle that started last week and ends this week for as far as we know, and also leaves an open-ended door for him to come back when the time is right.
“He loves AEW, he respects wrestling and we feel the same way, so I have no doubt in my mind that Mike will be back in AEW whenever he feels like he wants to come back.”
Jericho is also hoping to team up with the two-time heavyweight champion in a tag match.
He said: “Mike Tyson means viewers, Mike Tyson means Box Office and, you know, he looks great, he looks the part, he’s very believable.
“Last week I told him, ‘Nobody is better at being Mike Tyson than you are, so just be Mike’. He’s going to go do whatever he feels.
“That’s one of the reasons why we love having him – he’s very unpredictable, and that’s exactly what you expect and what you want when you work with him.”

Watch moment Tyson Fury was FLOORED by Steve Cunningham in New York but picked himself up to fight on as against Wilder

TYSON FURY has proven time and again that he is a man who will just not stay down. The Gypsy King is unbeaten in 31 fights, with just one blemish on his record, a 2018 draw against Deontay Wilder.

Tyson Fury got up from the floor and beat Steve CunninghamCredit: Action Images – Reuters
That night Fury – who was only two fights in during his sensational comeback – was twice floored by Wilder.
But each time he got back up to fight on, and in the eyes of many was unfortunate not to win the WBC title on points.
In the final round, a three-punch combination looked to have laid out Fury, until he miraculously rose to beat the count.
It left those watching on stunned – but it is not the first time he has hit the deck, brushed himself down, and boxed on.
Fury made his US debut in 2013, when he travelled to New York to face former cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham.
In round two, disaster struck as the visiting Brit moved off with his hands down and was nailed with a looping hook over the top.
Clearly not as ferocious as Wilder’s right hand in Los Angeles, but still Fury was on his backside.
Amazingly, as he did with the Bronze Bomber, the 6ft 9in switch-hitter retaliated with pure aggression and ended the round on top.

Fury eventually closed the show in the Big Apple against Cunningham, battering him on the ropes before a right hand finished the job.
And despite his 12th round heroics against Wilder, 35, he would have to wait until the Las Vegas rematch to enact revenge.
But he did so in fine fashion, dropping the American twice before beating him into submission in round seven in February 2020.
It has set him up with an undisputed title decider against long-time rival Anthony Joshua.
Fury, 32, and Joshua, 31, are both being presented with site deals to host their lucrative unification.
