Deontay Wilder returns to training gym more than 12-months after Tyson Fury loss as heavyweight plots comeback fight

Scott, 40, captioned the post: “@bronzebomber Great session tonight comrade, its game time.”
Wilder knocked out the veteran American in 2014 but they formed a friendship afterwards.
Once a sparring partner, Scott is now acting as part of the ex-champion’s coaching team.
It comes after Mark Breland was fired from Wilder’s squad after he threw the towel in against Fury.
Wilder was dropped twice by the Brit before his dominating defeat was brought to an end in round seven.
Further misery followed as the contracted trilogy never came to fruition, with Fury’s side claiming the stipulation expired in October.
Wilder, 35, is still fighting his case in court, while the Gypsy King, 32, prepares to face Anthony Joshua, 31, in a summer undisputed title decider.
Having been axed from the Bronze Bomber’s camp, Breland came out swinging in a stinging attack on his former pupil.

Paul, 24, secured his third professional boxing win when he savagely KO’d Ben Askren in the first minute of round one.
Fury tweeted “I’m ready to give the people what they want”, referring to a showdown with rival Paul.
The feud began when WBC champ Tyson implored Paul to take on his younger brother.
Speaking to ES News, Paul responded to Love Island star Tommy and laid down his demands.
He said: “I’m going to plant the seed now.
“Tommy Fury vs me and Michael Hunter against Tyson Fury on the same night.
“Tommy is weak… and Tommy’s girlfriend [Molly-Mae Hague] DM’d me before they went on that reality show.”

Jake Paul is cutting no corners with his diet

‘The Problem Child’ Paul may have to step up a weight division from cruiserweight for the fight to happen.
But the chances of Hunter getting in on the act to face Tyson appear slim – at least for now.
The 6ft 9ins superstar, 32, is on course to fight Anthony Joshua this summer in the first part of their two-bout Battle of Britain deal.
Fury’s WBC and The Ring crowns will be on the line while AJ will be defending his WBA, WBO and IBF belts in their quest to be named undisputed heavyweight champion.
Hunter, 32, is due to face Filip Hrgovic for the right to become the mandatory IBF challenger.

Denzel Bentley warns racism fight is not over after suffering online abuse for his George Floyd protests

DENZEL BENTLEY was the first Brit boxer to take a knee — but fears we are no closer to winning the racism war.The Battersea middleweight made a statement before beating Mick Hall in July following George Floyd’s murder in America.

British-Ghanaian Bentley, 26, was hailed by boxing for his gesture, yet suffered abuse on social media.
And he understands why some black Premier League footballers now refuse to take a knee — because it has failed to spark change.
Ahead of the undefeated British champion’s clash against Felix Cash, 28, at London’s York Hall, Bentley said: “I didn’t plan to take the knee.
“But so much was going on around the world at that time, that I felt I had to do something. My family and everyone in my area were proud.
“I grew up in an area where sometimes it did feel like every young black man who walked or dressed a certain way was getting attention from police, so it probably resonated.
“But there were still a few people on Twitter, anonymous accounts, that were negative.
“But I just ignore all of that.
“These people want to be made famous — even for something as terrible as racism.

“So I understand why some footballers have given up on the knee. When you see the abuse they get, it seems things might have got worse, not better.
“And although the officer in the George Floyd case getting convicted in America is a positive step, I don’t know if that is going to make a positive impact here when social media is still such a problem.”
Bentley learned his trade on Battersea’s Patmore estate in with brother Hayden.
They bought gloves from a nearby market and started their own fight league in their tower block stairwell.
Peacock Gym ace Bentley added: “My brother had the business brain. But he wanted the next get-rich-quick idea while I fell in love with boxing.
“Even now, from Battersea to the new gym in Epping can be a killer with a bit of traffic.
“I am sometimes found in the gym shouting, ‘Why didn’t I pick an easier path?’ But I do just love it.”

Josh Warrington’s Leeds homecoming in tatters after Headingley is refused license for September fight

JOSH WARRINGTON’S hopes of a Leeds homecoming have been scuppered after Headingley Stadium was refused a licence to stage it.The former IBF world featherweight champion, 30, suffered the first defeat of his career when he was knocked out by 30/1 underdog Mauricio Lara in February at Wembley Arena.

He was due to have his shot at revenge against the Mexican at the home of Leeds Rhinos in his home town in September – promising to retire if he could not avenge that brutal loss two months ago.
Now those hopes look to be scuppered as plans for the stadium’s rugby field to host two boxing or wrestling events each year have been unanimously rejected by the city’s council.
Warrington’s promoter Eddie Hearn had previously announced the rematch between the 30-1 star and Lara would take place on September 4 at the stadium.
But Leeds Rhinos boss Gary Hetherington said the decision was ‘a shock’ after receiving the news earlier.
He said: “So much work has gone on behind the scenes to bring the Warrington rematch back to Leeds and I suspect Eddie Hearn may now look to take the fight to another city.
“I know Josh will be very disappointed, too.”
The Rhinos and Yorkshire CCC recently invested £46million towards the redevelopment of the ground with their business plan relying on attracting major events.
If it had been given the green light by council chiefs the famous stadium, which hosts both rugby and cricket, was expected to have crowds of up to 25,000.
BETTING SPECIAL: GET 20/1 ON MAN CITY OR 60/1 ON TOTTENHAM

Explaining the decision to reject the plans, councillor John Illingworth said 25,000 fans was ‘a lot of people’ and there were fears they would ‘take over’ in a residential area late at night when people were asleep and public transport would no longer be running.
He said: “The late night finish certainly is a problem.
“If they finished the same time as a rugby match, I don’t think there’d be the same issues.
“We are all keen to see Rhinos doing well. It is a problem for them if they’ve got expensive facilities standing idle.”
Rhinos chief Hetherington said the club would now consider the ramifications of the decision before their next move.

Chris Eubank Jr reveals how Roy Jones Jr reformed his style and warns: ‘It’s not about going to war every time anymore’

CHRIS EUBANK JR has revealed how Roy Jones Jr reformed his style and warned: ‘It’s not about going to war every time anymore’. Eubank last year linked up with the American all-time great and later announced Jones as his coach.
Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr pictured with Chris Eubank JrCredit: chriseubankjr.com
Working alongside one of boxing’s most technically gifted operators has rubbed off on the middleweight contender.
And now fighting at his more natural weight, opposed to super-middle, Eubank opened up on perfecting the sweet science rather than all-out aggression.
He told Sky Sports: “Mentally is the biggest part. Physically? I’m 31, I won’t be a changed fighter, my style is what it is.
“There are things he has tweaked or made me focus on, but the main change is how I mentally approach these fights.
“The tactics, the thought process, the mind-set that I have now is different. Being with him will add years to my career.
“It’s not about going to war every time anymore. It’s about being smart and not getting hit. Some of those things I had lost focus on.
“I put that down to moving up to super-middleweight – knowing I was against guys who were naturally bigger, I got it into my head that I had to hurt them early so they didn’t bully me. I lost sight of the boxing.
“At middleweight nobody will bully me, nobody is bigger than me, so I can focus on the art and craft rather than the war aspect.

“I will still go to war – when there is an opportunity, these guys will get taken out. But there are new aspects to my game.”
Eubank has super-fights with the likes of Canelo Alvarez, 30, and Gennady Golovkin, 39, in his sights.
But first he returns against Marcus Morrison on May 1, with Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker headlining.
Eubank’s scored a career-best win against James DeGale in February 2019 and that December had only two rounds against Matt Korobov, before the Russian pulled out injured.
He said: “Ring-rust is a factor and Morrison is the perfect opponent. He is solid and he can punch so I can’t let my guard down.
“He has shown heart, he can punch. He’s not somebody to take lightly. So I’ve trained hard, like I would for any fight, and I will be at 100 per cent on the night.

“This is a fight to get me back in the mix. I’ve been out of the ring, really, for two years which has been tough.
“What can you do? The answer was to go away and learn, to improve, and to not stagnate like a lot of fighters have done.
“I have trained in Florida with Roy Jones Jr for a year-and-a-half and, although I haven’t been in the ring, I have improved.
“I’ve got at least another solid four or five years left. This was the perfect time to get new blood, a new set of eyes and ears, and new training methods into my camp.
“I have listened to them and learned from them, and it has paid dividends. You will see the fruits of my labour.”

Dillian Whyte up to No3 in Ring’s P4P heavyweight rankings after Povetkin revenge as Bodysnatcher waits for title shot

DILLIAN WHYTE is back in the top three of the Ring Magazine’s heavyweight rankings following his victory over Alexander Povetkin. The Body Snatcher exacted revenge on the Russian knockout specialist in March, stopping the former WBA champion in the fourth round.
British star Dillian Whyte is back in the Ring Magazine’s top three heavyweight rankings list
The 33-year-old is now back in contention to fight for a first world title, but the British star looks poised to risk it all again later this year.
His promoter Eddie Hearn told SunSport earlier this month that Whyte could face either Deontay Wilder or Andy Ruiz Jr in late 2021.
Both of those boxers are in the Ring’s top ten list, showing once again he is willing to face anyone inside the squared circle.
Here SunSport breaks down the full top ten.
Tyson Fury sits at the top of the pile after winning the Ring belt after dethroning Deontay Wilder in February 2020.
WBA, WBO and IBF king Anthony Joshua is the No 1 contender, and he will be looking to leapfrog Fury when the pair meet later this year for their undisputed bout.
Wilder sits in second spot, with Whyte’s win over Povetkin lifting him from fourth to third.
Following Whyte in the rankings is two-time WBC challenger Luis Ortiz, who knocked out Alexander Flores in the first round in November.

Joseph Parker has jumped up from sixth to fifth, with Andy Ruiz Jr also moving up the rankings despite not competing since December 2019.
The Mexican-American is scheduled to fight Chris Arreola in his comeback bout on May 1, a fight what Whyte has branded as ‘garbage’.
Michael Hunter is seventh in the list, with Povetkin down from third to eighth.
There is no change at the bottom, with Colombian star Oscar Rivas in ninth, followed by unbeaten Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

Anthony Joshua told he must be ‘perfect’ to win £250m undisputed showdown with Tyson Fury as Shields makes prediction

ANTHONY JOSHUA will have to have a ‘perfect’ night if he’s to win his blockbuster showdown with Tyson Fury. That’s the view of world champ Claressa Shields.

But Joshua’s fellow Olympian Claressa Shields is tipping the unified champ to win the long-awaited Battle of BritainCredit: AP
The long-awaited Battle of Britain is on the brink of being announced after both men agreed to a Saudi Arabia showdown.
Joshua’s chances of winning the mega-money bout were immediately written off after Fury’s emphatic dethroning of Deontay Wilder last February.
But fellow Olympian and three-weight world champion Shields reckons AJ can get the better of The Gypsy King, so long as he flawlessly executes his game plan.
She told Vegas Insider: “I think Tyson is great and a great opponent for AJ. But I’m on a roll with AJ.
“I think he learnt a lot from the Andy Ruiz fight.
“I just think now AJ knows to over-prepare, over focus, put boxing first. So I don’t think that he’ll be facing another defeat for a very, very long time.
“The keys to victories will be his head movement, his jab, bodywork and using his combinations and I think he’s been doing that very well in all of his fights.
CASINO SIGN UP OFFER: CLAIM UP TO £800 IN CASINO BONUS CASH

“He’s just going to have to be perfect that night because Tyson Fury is someone to be reckoned with.
“Tyson Fury got a great jab, good footwork, movement, he holds some power, but I just think AJ brings more to the table skills wise.
“If AJ brings his A-game, focuses and uses all his skills; like I said, he’s going to need his jab intact, the head movement, the bodywork, everything in order to win that fight.
“Tyson Fury is going to have to fight his butt off too in order to beat AJ.
“I feel like AJ got a lot of heart, I see him get dropped by [Wladimir] Klitschko and get back up and I’m a huge supporter of him.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed the biggest fight in the history of British boxing is being targetted for late July or early August.

Tyson Fury recently revealed claimed he’ll clash with Anthony Joshua in July

But in a leaked FaceTime call with boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Fury claimed he will share the ring with AJ in JULY.
When the Mexican legend asked him if he’s ‘preparing for a fight’, Fury replied: “Yes, in July.”
Drafts of the final contracts were exchanged this week and have made Hearn confident the fight will take place this summer.
He said: “We have exchanged some more final drafts and there will be a few more phone calls but it is as done as it can be.
“It is non-stop at the moment but it is happening, it is 100 per cent happening.”
