Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas tale of the tape: How fighters compare ahead 2012 Olympics rematch bout this weekend

KATIE TAYLOR and Natasha Jonas will renew their rivalry nine years on from their London 2012 Olympic bout. That night in the capital, Taylor beat Jonas in the quarter-finals before going on to win gold.
How Natasha Jonas and Katie Taylor compare
Now, as a pro the Irish hero is a two-weight world champion, reigning as the undisputed lightweight queen.
But Jonas is seeking revenge in Manchester on the undercard of Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker’s heavyweight headliner.
Here, SunSport compares the two ahead of their rematch all those years on.
    Katie Taylor
As an amateur, Taylor was as decolorated as it gets, winning 18 major gold medals, including at the Olympics, Worlds and European championships.
Her brilliant back foot boxing style, counter and precision punching were undeniable in the unpaid ranks.
And it did not take her much time to get settled in the pros, winning a world title seven fights and one year after turning over.
By 2019 she was undisputed champ having won all four lightweight belts – but it was not short of controversy.
Taylor beat Delfine Persoon to achieve the feat but several, including ringside pundits, scored it the other way.
It did not stop her momentum, though, as four months later she won the WBO belt at super-lightweight.
Taylor last August faced the challenge of Persoon again, coming up trumps for a second time.
It was another hard-fought battle and proved Taylor can be made uncomfortable with non-stop pressure.
But it also allowed the women’s boxing pioneer to prove her resilience and ability to fight back when the going gets tough.

    Natasha Jonas
Jonas was also an accomplished amateur, representing Great Britain at the World and European championships.
The Liverpudlian, the first woman to box for GB at the Olympics, initially retired in 2015 before the Rio Games.
But she reversed her decision and by 2017 turned pro and won six straight before her first loss.
The shock defeat came against Viviane Obenauf and left Jonas contemplating her career.
But she recovered with three more wins before challenging for Terri Harper’s WBC super-featherweight belt.
The pair boxed in Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Square Garden and put on a thriller.
Jonas was distraught with the draw and lobbied for a rematch, which is yet to be granted.
Instead, she will get the chance to gain even sweeter revenge, taking on old rival Taylor once more.

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight deal is ‘on verge’ of completion, says Hearn as he blasts Bob Arum for casting doubt

EDDIE HEARN has insisted he will finalise Anthony Joshua’s fight with Tyson Fury despite Bob Arum’s pessimism. The Gypsy King’s US promoter cast doubt on the deal earlier this week when accusing Hearn of being ‘late’ to tie it up.

However, the Matchroom boss has hit back to claim he is ‘the only one’ working on the mega unification battle.
He told talkSPORT: “I’m a bit worried about Bob Arum.
“I last communicated with Bob Arum on Thursday and Friday of last week and he gave an interview last night to say he hasn’t heard from me for two weeks.
“Five days ago he was telling everyone, ‘It’s done, it’s in Saudi Arabia, this is the deal, etc’.
“It’s definitely taking a little bit longer than we anticipated, both guys have accepted the deal that’s come in from the Middle East, we’re papering that deal.
“It’s not as easy as just a 24-hour turnaround of a long-form agreement for a fight of this magnitude.
“Bob Arum said, ‘Eddie Hearn, he’s run out of time’. We’re supposed to be partners on this fight.
“The only one I see doing any work on this fight at all is me. And I won’t stop until we’ve got the fight made.

“So we’re on the verge. We have an agreement, we have a signed contract, we have a site agreement that’s been accepted and now we put it in a long-form agreement and you get an announcement next week.”
Saudi Arabia has been tipped to host the summer showdown and bag both fighters over £50million.
But Fury’s camp has alluded to the trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder that the Brit was reportedly obliged to last year.
Arum, 89, told BoxingScene: “Maybe we’ll breathe some life into Wilder, and Fury will fight Wilder and Joshua will fight [Oleksandr] Usyk.
“Eddie Hearn is busy trying to sell the London Bridge. Let me tell you – last time I talked to Eddie was early last week and he said he was going to have a signed agreement from the Saudis in 24 hours.
“Well, he’s a little late. Wouldn’t you be pessimistic if you haven’t heard from him or anybody for a week? We’re the promoter with Frank [Warren] of Fury and we haven’t heard from Eddie in a week.”

Hearn, 41, admitted his surprise at the remarks and vowed to do what it takes to get Joshua and Fury in the ring together.
He continued: “I don’t know whether Bob’s on the wind-up, trying to put the pressure on.
“He’s 90 years old, so you’ve gotta respect him. I messaged him last night with the quote that I saw as if to say, ‘What is this all about?’.
“He sort of goes, ‘Well, you know, gotta move quicker.’ I said, ‘No, I’m moving as fast as I can’.
I’m the only one that’s been out traipsing around the world to make sure we get this fight happening.Eddie Hearn

“But it’s all been left to me basically. The whole thing. Everyone’s just sitting there saying, ‘Eddie’s gotta hurry up, Eddie’s gotta do this’.
“We’re supposed to be co-promoters in this fight. I’m the only one that’s been out traipsing around the world to make sure we get this fight happening.
“And I promise you this fight will happen, I’ll make sure this fight happens.”

But the WBC king has revealed he’s open to a crossover bout with Ngannou and a wrestling match with former WWE champ McIntyre.
He said on Instagram: “This is a message to Francis Ngannou and the UFC guys: Look, if you want some of this Gypsy King money, you know where to come find it.
“You want some of this Gypsy King power, I’ll give it ya.
“Any time, any place, anywhere. Seven days a week and twice on a Sunday you big ugly dosser.”
Fury, 32, then took aim at McIntyre, who recently claimed the former unified heavyweight champion has been ‘stalking’ him on social media.
He said: “This is a special message to my long-haired boyfriend Drew McIntyre, who can’t stop thinking about me and can’t stop talking about me.

“Drew, you want a good hiding (flexes his biceps)? I’ll give it you too. Any time, any place, anywhere.”
A fired-up Fury then turned his attention to Joshua, saying: “While I’m on a rant, I may as well call out one more person.
“A big useless dosser, not a real fighting man, hype job, bodybuild, CrossFit, big, ugly s***house.
“And that’s Anthony Joshua. AJ, if you’re out there let’s make this fight happen you big dosser, you big s***house, bum dosser.
“I’m going to smash your face in too, and there’s not one thing you can do about it. Prove me wrong sucker, prove me wrong.

    “I’m No1, numero uno.”
He added: “Just been thinking, another message for AJ: AJ, if you go past three rounds with me, I’ll quit in the corner.
“Because that’s how confident I am of taking you cold out in the first two, three rounds. Out, like a light switch.”
Fury and Joshua’s long-awaited Battle of Britain is on course to take place in Saudi Arabia in late July or early August.

But his co-promoter, Bob Arum, has cast serious doubt over the blockbuster fight taking place this year.
He told Ring Magazine: “If I had to bet whether the Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua fight would happen or not, I would say no.
“As far as I can see this whole thing with Eddie and (a Fury vs AJ fight in Saudi Arabia) is just a mirage.”
He added: “Eddie is desperate, he has one more fight with AJ, and he wants it to be the fight against Fury.
“But if a fight against Tyson is delayed, to the winter, then AJ has to fight Oleksandr Usyk, and that’s not that big a fight. Eddie is a desperado here.”

It has taken nearly two years for the pair to finally meet inside the ring, with the duo to meet at Manchester Arena on Saturday.
And the heavyweight’s were in a joyous mood as they sat down for a friendly meal together, where they ordered poached eggs and avocado on toast.
Chisora posted footage of the two enjoying a bite to eat on Instagram to his 228,000 followers where he joked they were taking part in a ‘Breakfast Gloves Are Off’ special.
He even FaceTimed Sky Sports Boxing pundit Johnny Nelson – who hosts the TV show – to get involved.
Captioning the clip, the 37-year-old said: “Breakfast with @joeboxerparker. Romance him up before I f*** him up.”
In a follow-up upload, he commented: “Hope you enjoyed breakfast @joeboxerparker#warchisora#chisoraparker.”
Former WBO heavyweight champion Parker, 29, is hoping a win over Chisora will see him back competing for world titles.
But Chisora is looking to scupper those plans as he promised to bring pain when he meets the New Zealander inside the squared circle.

“The fight is going to be a great fight, we’re going to push on it, train hard and go crazy about it. You know the routine, man: ‘WAR.’
“Expect what I always deliver. Beat the guy and pound on the guy. Destroy that guy. Confidence.

Usman’s backtracking on the fight bamboozled Paul, who took aim at the UFC’s 170lb king with a four-point tweet.
Paul, who was cageside for Usman’s brutal knockout of Jorge Masvidal last weekend, wrote: “So let’s get this straight:
“1. Usman calls me out to fight on TMZ sports interview.
“2. I quickly accept the challenge to fight and will give him biggest pay day of career ($10m+)
“3. Usman then backs out of fight because I’m “a Disney kid”
    “4. Usman visits Disney world.”
Paul stretched his unbeaten record to 3-0 earlier this month with a first-round knockout of former UFC welterweight Ben Askren.

He said: “Even someone watching this interview right now is like, ‘Oh, this kid’s crazy.
“‘Nate Diaz is such a dog, he’s going to kill Jake, he’s out of his mind.’ But they’re going to tune in and watch, right?
“It’s two massive names, and it would be a massive pay-per-view, and then when they see me obliterate him, they’re jaws are going to be dropped – they’re not going to know how to react.

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul’s fight purses REVEALED with Money man dwarfing his rival with mega £72m payday

FLOYD MAYWEATHER is in line for another mega payday after predicting he will earn a guaranteed £72million to fight Logan Paul. The boxing legend announced his exhibition bout with YouTuber Paul is set for Sunday, June 6, as revealed by SunSport.

YouTuber Logan Paul will face Floyd Mayweather on June 6
When quizzed about the spectacle pay-per-view, Mayweather explained he could make $35million (£25m) to fight any regular boxer.
But an exhibition extravaganza will earn him $65m more, as he projected he will make $100m (£72m) against Paul.
Mayweather told entrepreneur Rob Moore: “I prefer to still go out, entertain and have fun.
“Just because I go out and entertain, have fun, doesn’t mean that I still want to fight 12 rounds.
“I think we got a six round exhibition and I think it’s going to be very entertaining, and the people are going to love it.
“We’ve got to look at 35 million for 12 rounds or 100 million for six rounds, big difference, big difference.
“And I can’t really say what the numbers are going to be. How much money I’m going to make, or how much Logan Paul is going to make.
“But we’re talking about projecting, we’ve always got to talk about what it’s projected to make.”

Mayweather, 44, is believed to be getting a cut in the PPV sales, as was the case throughout his historic 50-0 career.
Paul, 26, is more in the dark about his purse, but close friend Mike Majlak claimed his podcast host would be earning at least £10m.
Majlak said: “Eight figures – you’re not going to say it, but eight figures.”
Mayweather earned close to £900m in career earnings, around £600m of that when beating Conor McGregor, 32, and Manny Pacquiao, 42.
He officially hung up his gloves as a pro in 2017 after beating ex-UFC champion McGregor.
But the American legend did make a return a year later, wiping out featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a Japanese exhibition.
Mayweather is gearing up for a similar box office comeback with Paul, who made his professional debut in 2019, but lost to social media rival KSI, 27.
The exhibition was initially set for February 20, but it was later postponed to allow fans in attendance. Miami is set to host the fight at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Jake Paul to return by ‘end of the year’ with Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis among potential opponents

JAKE PAUL is in line to return to the ring by the end of the year – with Dillon Danis among the potential opponents. The internet sensation improved his record to three knockout wins in as many fights after beating Ben Askren in one round.
Jake Paul is set to return by the end of the yearCredit: Instagram
Dillon Danis is among the potential names to fight Jake Paul
It came only four months after he left ex-NBA star Nate Robinson out cold and sent into a viral meme.
Having become one of boxing’s most polarising characters and the face of Triller boxing, Paul is set for a rest and recovery job before fighting again.
Triller’s Ryan Kavanaugh told SunSport: “I would probably think it will be towards the end of the year.
“He wants to take a five or six month break.”
Already Paul has a long list of rivals calling him out, including ex-UFC champions Tyron Woodley, 39, and Daniel Cormier, 42.
Love Island star and Tyson Fury’s half brother Tommy, 21, has also entered talks with the YouTuber.
But 2-0 Bellator welterweight Danis, who shot to fame as Conor McGregor’s training partner, is another who fits the bill in the eyes of Triller.
Kavanaugh said: “Look, I’d love to see Jake fight, like a Dillon Danis. Personally, I think that’s a great fight.
CASINO SIGN UP OFFER: CLAIM UP TO £800 IN CASINO BONUS CASH

“Now Jake’s proven, at least minimum, that he’s a boxer. He might not have beaten the best boxer, but he knows how to box.
“We’ve got to put a real athlete in there that has real fighting and boxing skills. But there’s a lot of people, who would be suited.
“I think Dillon Danis is the type of fighter who fits the mould.”
Paul, 24, has long long feuded Danis, 27, online and even lobbed toilet paper at the jiujitsu champion in December.
It led to the grappler being offered a fight in March, but he was unable to accept amid a knee surgery.
Danis is now training again and revealed he was approached by Triller to co-headline one of their pay-per-view bills.

Kavanaugh confirmed the talks, giving him the green-light to face Paul, but only if given permission by Bellator.
“We don’t talk to any fighters that would interfere,” Kavanaugh said.
“So as long as he is clear from all of his Bellator obligations, we would definitely love to have him on a card.
“And I’d say we definitely have had the discussion that we are interested if he has no other obligations.
“The thing Jake does, he delivers to any boxer a very, very big social following.
“They come in with one and they leave with something much bigger.
“I think with someone like Dillon, that type of mould helps deliver equal value.”
