Anthony Joshua hails Eddie Hearn as ‘best promoter in world’ amid claims Tyson Fury fight is ‘dead in the water’

ANTHONY JOSHUA hailed Eddie Hearn as the ‘best promoter in world’ amid claims his fight with Tyson Fury is ‘dead in the water’. Fury and AJ signed a fight agreement in March with opposing camps then left to secure a date and venue.

Joshua’s promoter Hearn, the driving force behind the talks, is adamant a deal to host the historic headliner is close to completion.
But Fury’s US handler Bob Arum had a contrasting opinion and astonishingly claimed the fight was ‘dead in the water’.
Despite the differing stances, AJ has put his full confidence in Hearn and Matchroom Boxing as he hailed them on Instagram.
He posted: “@matchroomboxing. Best promotional company in the world. “@eddiehearn Thank you for all your efforts over the years!
“Best promoter in the world! Hands down (he said he’d give me £20 for this). Jokes aside he’s doing a lot for boxing & boxers.”
Hearn has guided Joshua to become a two-time unified heavyweight world champion since AJ’s 2013 debut, a year after winning gold at the Olympics.
But he faces the biggest fight in his promotional career to deliver the undisputed title decider on everyone’s lips.
And he even has doubt coming from Arum, who is working alongside Hearn to agree terms.

Arum told The Telegraph: “It will take months for the Saudis to do their due diligence on such a huge deal.
“It is not just a site fee, there are ancillary demands from the Saudis stretching into the broadcast deals and other things, it could take months for it all to play out.
“It could even take until 2022 the way it looks right now. The fight in July or August is dead in the water as far as we are concerned.
“The two fighters need to go and have other fights this summer while the negotiations for that fight in the Middle East conclude.
“It is absurd what Hearn is saying that it is a done deal.
“If we had just done a site deal without all the other complications that have arisen, we would have a fight by now.
“Tyson Fury is fuming about it and is refusing to keep waiting.”
Fury in February 2020 dethroned Deontay Wilder of the WBC belt, but an immediate rematch clause was already in the contract.
Tyson Fury pictured with promoter Bob Arum
Team Fury argued it expired in October, allowing them to instead begin talks for an undisputed title decider with AJ.
Wilder, 35, is still fighting his case through a mediator, and Arum and Fury flew to California this week for arbitration.
And with claims of stalled talks with AJ, Arum admitted mediation with Wilder could instead turn to fight talks.
But in another twist, according to The Athletic, a site deal for Joshua and Fury worth more than £108m is expected to be completed this weekend.
It would see, for the first time in heavyweight history all four belts on the line, with Riyadh in Saudi, the hosts in early August.
Joshua’s promoter Hearn, the driving force behind the talks, is even confident the fight will finally be announced by next week.
He said to iFL TV: “I believe we announce this fight next week. I do.
“Because, if we don’t, I do agree with Bob, by then why wouldn’t that be done? I don’t think there is a reason it won’t be done, to be honest with you.”

Anthony Joshua claims he CHOSE not to stop Andy Ruiz Jr to prove critics wrong – just like he did against Joseph Parker

ANTHONY JOSHUA decided against knocking out Andy Ruiz Jr in their rematch in order to prove a point to his ‘critics’.AJ went up against Mexico’s first heavyweight champion in December 2019, six months after he was stopped by the burly bruiser in his ill-fated American debut.

Joshua put on a clinic in their Saudi showdown, using his reach and boxing at range to reclaim the unified titles with a unanimous decision victory.
Despite cruising to victory in the make-or-break rematch, Joshua was criticised for not stopping Ruiz Jr.
But the Watford Warrior had no intention of having a quick night at the office against The Destroyer.
He told JD Sports: “There’s only two fights I‘ve said that (I’m going the distance) Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz 2 when I’ve said to myself this fight I’m taking the distance.
“I’ve consciously said that to myself, the first one with Joseph Parker everyone says I can’t go 12 rounds I’m unfit, everyone’s game plan was I’m going to take AJ to the later round he’s going to run out of gas.
“I said you know what, I’m going to show this guy can go 12 rounds so that was that I went 12 rounds with him – I wanted to silence my critics.

“Ruiz 2 there was a strategy in place where it was box, when I watched Joe Louie versus two-ton Tony Galento he boxed and moved well.
“You don’t really box into someone’s strengths so we took away a lot of his strengths and we stayed on the outside of the ring, we manoeuvred well, that float like a butterfly sting like a bee type of element, we tried to bring that to that fight which was a 12 round fight so we got that decision.”
Joshua, 31, is currently gearing up for his long-awaited undisputed heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury.
The pair have agreed to throw down in Saudi Arabia in the summer, although their multi-million-pound showdown has yet to be finalised.
And Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum has claimed the long-awaited Battle of Britain is ‘dead in the water’.

He told The Daily Telegraph: “It will take months for the Saudis to do their due diligence on such a huge deal.
“It is not just a site fee, there are ancillary demands from the Saudis stretching into the broadcast deals and other things, it could take months for it all to play out.

Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker LIVE RESULTS: Latest updates and news from HUGE Manchester fight night

DEREK CHISORA takes on Joseph Parker in a massive heavyweight clash in Manchester. The fight was originally set to take place in 2019 but New Zealand star Parker pulled out after being bit by a SPIDER.
And before the main event there’s a mammoth undercard featuring Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas, Chris Eubank Jr and Campbell Hatton.
We’ll be bringing you ALL of the thrills and spills from the Manchester Arena right here!

Fight start time: Saturday, 10pm BST
TV/ live stream: Sky Sports Box Office

Follow all of the latest updates and fight build up below…

    PRIMED FOR WAR
Derek Chisora will bid to get back in the win column in his clash with former WBO champ Joseph Parker following defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last November.
And the former world title challenger appears to have dropped a few pounds ahead of Saturday’s showdown.

    GETTING COSY AT BREAKFAST
Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora enjoyed a bizarre breakfast with Spiderman on Thursday morning.
But something tells me their meeting this afternoon won’t be as cordial.

    DEL OF A FIGHT
Derek Chisora faces Joseph Parker on Saturday night in a huge fight night in Manchester, and we’ll be bringing you all of the updates starting from TODAY’S weigh in at 1pm right here.
The pair were originally set to do battle in 2019 but a SPIDER bite ruled out Parker.
Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas is the chief support on a stacked undercard which includes Chris Eubank Jr and Campbell Hatton both in action too.
Chisora and Parker have enjoyed a jovial fight week, even sharing breakfast together this week.
Though Chisora has been far from enthusiastic about Parker’s last fight, when he beat Junior Fa in his native New Zealand in February.
Chisora said: “If I had boxed for the title he won in New Zealand, I would have won it as well.
“There’s not much really happening in New Zealand.
“If that fight was on a different continent he’d have lost it because when Ruiz was bringing the heat on and pushing the fight… it went Joe’s way because it was his show.
“But really and truly I’ve got respect for Joe and I don’t have anything bad to say about Joe because he hasn’t done anything bad in the sport.
“He has been given fights and he has fought those fights.”

Marcus Morrison was rejected by Man City as a teenager for ‘being too small’… and now makes boxing return vs Eubank Jr

FROM football heartbreak to boxing delight, Marcus Morrison’s sporting journey is one of perseverance and a desire to reach for the stars.Aged 16, Morrison was told by Manchester City that he “was too small”, and released. He had been at the club since he was 11. His dreams of becoming a professional footballer had crumbled.

The cruel heartbreak of being released by his boyhood club was tempered by his obvious skills as a boxer
Fast forward seven years, and the tender age of 23, Morrison became a belt-holder in the middleweight division.
He won the International Silver title in just his 11th fight when he stopped Jefferson Luiz De Sousa in the second round in May 2016.
Another three wins later and everything was looking up for the Mancunian contender – until he suffered his first career setback.
It came against future world title challenger Jason Welborn in March 2017, but things got worse as Morrison was beaten on his return just three months later against Tyan Booth.
Since then, the former City hopeful has won nine of his last ten fights on the road to recovery and makes his return this Saturday.
In his hometown, he will face his biggest challenge to date coming up against Chris Eubank Jr on the undercard of Derek Chisora’s heavyweight headliner with Joseph Parker.
It will be Morrison’s 27th professional fight and the biggest stage of his career, the sort of nights which make his comeback story having been dumped by City all the more inspiring.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Morrison said in 2016: “I was a defender and had to have a bit of height and strength about me. They said I’d never get past 5ft 10in and here I am now at 6ft.

“I was getting in the car at the amateur gym and driving to train at City and getting ready in the car, getting there a couple of minutes late,” he added. “I was doing both and when City released me I just thought I’d go back to what else I’m good at and picked up from where I left off.
“I wouldn’t be in the sport if I didn’t think I could be the best. I’m not going to be in the sport and box to just get by. I’m in it to be the best and I honestly believe I can get there.”
Morrison, 28, can steal the show with an upset win over Eubank, 31, and in turn spoil any plans for the middleweight star to fight divisional king Gennady Golovkin.
He said: “I’m always dangerous. Only a fool would not respect my power. I do carry the punch power to knock Chris Eubank Jr out.
“To pull this upset off would be one of the biggest upsets in UK boxing, especially when he’s talking about the likes of Canelo, Golovkin, and all these fighters.
“If I go in there and spoil the party, where does that put me? It puts me right up there with the big names.”

Canelo Alvarez slams ‘stupid’ Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul fight and predicts he would KO old rival in their prime

CANELO ALVAREZ has slammed old foe Floyd Mayweather for fighting Logan Paul, describing it as ‘stupid’.And the Mexican, who faces Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 with three super-middleweight belts on the line, thinks he would KO Mayweather if they fought ‘at their prime’.
Canelo’s only ever defeat came in 2013 against Floyd MayweatherCredit: Getty – Contributor
It was announced earlier in the week that Mayweather would take on YouTuber Paul in an exhibition fight on June 6.
The American’s undefeated boxing record is NOT on the line.
But one boxer who might give the fight a miss is Canelo, who lost to Mayweather in 2013 in a majority decision.
Speaking on In Depth With Graham on YouTube, the 20-year-old said: “It’s not really relevant at all. It’s an exhibition, just for making money. It’s stupid.
“Why do they give licences to people who’ve never in their life thrown a punch?
“If there’s a death, the commission will be responsible. Why? Because they issued the licence for the fight.”
Although it went to a majority decision, many thought Canelo was outclassed by Mayweather in 2013 and that it should have been a much clearer result on the scorecards.
Canelo regrouped after the loss and went on to win titles across multiple weight divisions, while Mayweather retired 50-0 undefeated, his last being the 10th-round KO of Conor McGregor.

On a hypothetical rematch against his old adversary, Canelo added: “He’d have nothing to do with me.
“If we were both at our prime, our best prime, he wouldn’t have anything to do with me. Nothing. I’d knock him out.”
Mayweather said in an Instagram post: “Logan Paul and I are going to fight at Hard Rock Stadium. Mayweather Promotions, Fanmio and Showtime will team up to give you an epic event.”
The fight was originally scheduled for February 20 but it was postponed due to Covid-19-related restrictions that wouldn’t allow a full stadium, according to Fox News.
The five-time world champion must weigh in under 160 pounds and Paul under 190 pounds, according to the fighting terms.
No details were mentioned about how many rounds there will be.

Canelo Alvarez casually reveals he KO’d a 35-year-old man when he was just 14 and declares ‘I was born for this’

CANELO ALVAREZ revealed he once knocked out a 35-year-old man when he was just 14 and declared: ‘I was born for this’. The Mexican superstar started boxing around aged 13 after being inspired by his older brother Rigoberto.
Canelo Alvarez revealed he once knocked out a 35-year-old man when he was just 14
Canelo Alvarez made his debut aged 15
And within one year Alvarez, who earned the nicknamed Canelo, Spanish for cinnamon, due to ginger hair, was already a powerhouse.
In an interview with Graham Bensinger, asked when he first KOd someone in the gym, he responded: “He was some 30 or 35-year’s-old, and I was 14.
    “I was born for this.”
Canelo’s trainer Chepo Reynoso, whose son Eddy is now head coach, was there that frightening day.
And it turned out to be the last time he ever questioned Alvarez in the ring.
Reynoso said: “I told him, he looked really dangerous. I’ll get up on the ring and stop the fight.
“And he (Canelo) says, ‘No, he looks scared’. On the first round, Saul comes out and he knocks him out.
“He gets up all dizzy and the round ends. On the second round, boom, boom. He knocks his nose way over to the side and that was finished.

“So I went up on the ring happy because I was nervous. Because, I told him, ‘I’m worried, I’m worried’.
“And he said, ‘There’s you worry, your f***ing worry. There it is. So after that, never, never, ever have I feared for him in his fights. Never.”
Canelo made his debut aged 15 and once revealed he was only paid £15 for the win.
Fast forward another 15 years and Alvarez is boxing’s top attraction as the pound-for-pound No1 with a net worth of £100m.
He fights Brit Billy Joe Saunders, 31, next in a super-middleweight unification bout in Miami on May 8.

And Canelo admitted before every fight he acknowledges the risk of death in the ring and even says goodbye to his family.
He said: “I know the risks in boxing. I get up in the ring and maybe I won’t be coming down.
“Maybe I’ll come down dead. But I know that. And I always say goodbye to my family.
“I tell them, ‘Don’t worry, don’t cry. If I die, I’ll die doing what I love most.'”

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury will NOT go ahead until Deontay Wilder gives green light, claims Derek Chisora

But Fury’s side argued it expired in October, allowing them to instead begin talks for an undisputed title decider with AJ.
Wilder is still fighting his case through a mediator and Chisora expects the American to have the final say on the Gypsy King’s future.
He told DAZN: “My opinion, I keep telling everyone, you have to understand Deontay Wilder signed a three-fight deal with Tyson.
“Pandemic came, and shut everything down, AJ had his fight with Kubrat Pulev, and the whole hype thing happened with his fight with Fury.
“But don’t forget the three-fight deal with Wilder. It’s not going to happen because he has to fight with Wilder before everything else.
“So Wilder says I’ll stand aside for 80 million. The fight only happens when Tyson Fury fights Deontay Wilder.”
Should Fury, 32, be allowed to go ahead with his unification with Joshua, 31, Wilder, 35, is expected to at least be compensated financially.
But, he has been given new life in his hopes for redemption as negotiations for the Battle of Britain drag on.
