Ex-UFC star Ben Askren told sparring partner he would lose to Jake Paul BEFORE fight if rival ‘had any boxing ability’

BEN ASKREN told former training partner Belal Muhammad he would lose to Jake Paul BEFORE their fight if the YouTuber ‘had any boxing ability’. Askren, who was two years retired, agreed to the boxing match despite his renowned grappling and limited striking style.

And he was very open before the fight that should Paul have a certain degree of skill, he would win.
So the social media star’s first-round knockout was not a surprise, certainly not for Muhammad, who has trained with Askren before.
He said: “It does more harm to boxing than anything, the whole show was a joke. Everybody in MMA knows Ben does not box.
“I’ve trained with Ben and I know that he does not box and he even admitted that if Jake Paul has any type of boxing ability he’s going to lose.
“And just judging by the way Ben showed up at weigh-in, he looked super out of shape, he didn’t care about that fight.
“These guys are Youtubers, they can’t fight real fighters, so they have to keep fighting guys that can’t strike. If you want to keep those paydays coming in you have to keep winning.
“Now you’ve got nerds and trolls online that think these guys are actually real fighters.
“That’s the only thing that’s annoying about it. You’ve got these guys, these little freaking nerds, that think these guys are monsters now.”

Paul, 24, moved to 3-0 with his third straight KO, following up on his wins over online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson.
The American now wants to keep his rivalry with the UFC alive by fighting another MMA opponent.
Ex-champions Daniel Cormier, 42, and Tyron Woodley, 39, are among the names to have called out Paul.
But No12 ranked welterweight Muhammad has warned against crossing over from the UFC to the boxing ring unless money is the sole motivation.
He said: “It’s a different game, they’re using 12oz gloves so the Pauls will be able to take more punches but they’re not going to be knocking out any real strikers.
“He may be able to last, he has so much money that he can bring in the best trainers and if he’s really taking it seriously you can train enough to last two eight-minute rounds with a UFC fighter in a boxing ring.
“But it’s not really worth it if you’re a UFC fighter unless you’re just doing it for the money.
“You saw Ben Askren smiling at the end because he knew this cheque would put his kids through private school.”

This interview was in association with Unikrn, who have launched a new virtual UFC betting product for MMA fans.

Tyson Fury reveals punch combo he plans to KO Anthony Joshua with as Eddie Hearn predicts round nine stoppage for AJ

TYSON FURY has revealed the punch combination he thinks will knock out Anthony Joshua. But while in conversation with Eddie Hearn, the promoter offered his prediction of a ninth-round stoppage for AJ.
Tyson Fury has revealed the combination he thinks will knock out Anthony Joshua

Fury was on Hearn’s BBC ‘No Passion, No Point’ podcast, where he described how he envisions beating Joshua.
He said: “I will cut Anthony Joshua down like a hot knife through cheese. That’s how easy it’s going to be. That’s how easy it’s going to be.
“When he gets cracked with all them muscles right in the jaw, it’s like getting a boiled egg with a split down the middle, it can’t be repaired.
“He will go. I’ll even tell you what punch it’s going to be, I’ll even give my game plan away; it will be a check left hook straight to the temple.
“His legs will go and he’ll fall on his face. He may get back up and I’ll knock him out with the overhand right. Goodnight. Enough said.”
Hearn, who has promoted Joshua since the heavyweight’s 2013 debut, unsurprisingly hit back and backed his golden goose.
He responded: “OK. I think he stops you in nine rounds.”
The Gypsy King, 32, then gave long-time rival Joshua, 31, praise but insisted the difference between them is he is motivated by winning, not money.

Fury said: “There’s only one difference, he’s a great champion, two-time champion and all that, he’s knocked out loads of people.
“But the real difference here in men is, he’s a businessman and I’m a f***ing spartan.
“I don’t care about money, I’m a spartan, I live to fight. I don’t care about any other thing in boxing, I don’t want to be a billionaire.
“I don’t want to be a businessman, I’m not interested. The only thing that I love is a fight.”
Both heavyweight champions signed to fight in March with promoters left to agree a date and venue.
Hearn has maintained AJ and Fury have both agreed a site deal, believed to be in Saudi Arabia on August 7.
It will promise, for the first time in heavyweight history, that all four WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles will be at stake as well as British bragging rights.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman gifted Tyson Fury seven replica belts
Fury, 32, and Tommy, 21, were both training in Las Vegas before jetting off to Arlington to support close friend Saunders.
The Gypsy King had already praised his legendary promoter Bob Arum for lending him the jet to fly over.
Fury captured his journey and the moment he landed as he promised a masterclass from Saunders.
Later, Sulaiman handed the Brit memorabilia in the shape of mini title belts.
Fury is set to put his WBC strap on the line with 30-year-old Anthony Joshua’s WBA, IBF and WBO crowns in an undisputed title decider.
The pair have agreed a site deal, believed to be in Saudi Arabia, for a mega unification on August 7.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn hopes to finally announce the fight on the weekend while Fury sits ringside.
But for now the attention is on Saunders, 31, and pound-for-pound king Canelo, 30, only once beaten against Floyd Mayweather, 44, in 2013.

Floyd Mayweather reveals toughest opponent was Manny Pacquiao and admits he is only fighting Logan Paul for money

Despite many feeling the fight failed to produce the excitement the build-up promised, it still sold a record 4.6million pay-per-views.
Mayweather, 44, controlled the contest in large parts but admitted Pacquiao, 42, was his trickiest customer.
He told The Million Dollaz Worth of Game show: “The best fighter I ever fought, probably was Manny Pacquiao. Because of his movement.
“But he’s a helluva fighter and I can see why he won so many fights and I can see why he’s going down as a Hall of Famer, it’s just certain moves that he made.
“But the roughest fighter probably was a guy named Emanuel Augustus. The Drunken Master. He was tough.
“And Miguel Cotto was very, very physically strong. So, you’ve got different fighters, different days you feel different ways.
“So some days you can go over there and you may not feel that good but you go over there and feel superb.”
Mayweather officially retired as a professional in 2017 after beating ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.

He did return a year later in Japan and beat featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in one round.

Mayweather’s wealth is set to sky rocket again having lined up another exhibition, as he faces YouTuber Logan Paul, 26, on June 6.
The American legend reckons he is set for a guaranteed £72m payday and admitted the money is too good to turn down.

“So, I truly believe in I’d rather have a currency then a legacy, because my legacy is already engraved in stone.
“A lot of times they say, ‘Oh, Mayweather, he’s doing exhibitions’ they be like, ‘It’s bad for boxing’.
“But at the end of the day, I look at my children, I look at my grandson, I look at my mother, I look at my father.

Billy Joe Saunders claims he skipped first Canelo Alvarez face-off because ‘I was playing with my balls’ as rivals feud

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS claimed he skipped the first face-off with Canelo Alvarez because ‘I was playing with my balls’. The pair headline on Saturday night in Texas with their unified super-middleweight titles on the line.
Canelo Alvarez, Eddie Hearn and Billy Joe SaundersCredit: Ed Mulholland/Matchroom.
But the fight was under threat after Saunders’ demand of a 22ft ring was refused.
Canelo, 30, instead wanted to fight in the standard 20ft size, but Saunders, 31, and his dad made it clear if that was the case, the fight would be cancelled.
In the end, four-division champion Alvarez accepted the Brit’s terms as they eventually came face-to-face.
But asked why he did not show for the first meeting, Saunders said: “Yesterday I was in my room playing with my balls.
“There was no time for media yesterday because it was my time for playing with my balls.”
After Saunders’ threat to fly home, promoter Eddie Hearn was forced to ask Canelo if the ring size could be changed.
Hearn told iFL TV: “Billy got here and wasn’t happy with the ring, the team asked for a 20 foot by 20 fit ring, I agreed that with Canelo then Billy asked for a 22-foot ring.
“He said he was going home and I believed him. This is what he was pushing for.

“Thankfully I had a conversation with Canelo that I was a little scared about. I asked if he had a problem with that and he said, no, not at all.”
Saunders had first asked for a 24ft ring and explained that was the size he had trained in throughout his camp.
He said: “If they’d had told me from day one, I’d have trained in an 18-foot ring and we could have fought in an 18-foot ring.
“But I’ve been training in an Olympic-sized ring, a 24-foot ring.
“It’s a unification fight, everything on the line and 70,000 people there, it doesn’t make sense to put an 18-foot ring in the middle.
“It’s a case of being treated fairly. Eddie says we don’t do 22s, we only do 20s; but why would you put a 20-foot ring in for Callum Smith and an 18-foot ring for me?
“If I’d have prepared in an 18-foot ring then no problem.

Jake Paul admits he is ‘evil troll behind the iPhone screen’ as YouTuber warns haters: You just drive me on

Jake Paul celebrates his third knockout win
Paul has used his online persona to drive huge interest in his professional boxing career, which started in January last year and stands at 3-0.
The 24-year-old has had a loyal fanbase since aged 12 but it is his new wave of haters who are now making the loudest noise.
Paul is happy to feed off the naysayers and even claimed they are secretly supporters of his, who are none the wiser.
In an exclusive interview with SunSport, he said: “I’m like the evil troll behind the iPhone screen just laughing and giggling and just having fun with this whole entire thing.
“I think haters are confused fans. I don’t think there is such a thing as haters.
“If you really don’t like someone you just don’t watch them, you don’t talk about them, you don’t care what they’re up to and you don’t mention their name.
“So all of these people are actually my fans.”
Paul – who SunSport exclusively revealed is lining up a $100m fight with Conor McGregor next year – debuted as a pro with a first-round stoppage against YouTube rival ‘AnEsonGib’.

He then followed it up with two brutal knockouts, firstly against ex-NBA star Nate Robinson and then retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, both 36.
Despite his highlight-reel wins, Paul has made just as many headlines outside the ring through his unwavering confidence.
But away from the bright lights, glitz and glamour, the American has admitted to struggling with anxiety attacks.

Despite his open reveal, Paul says dealing with hate is not taxing on his mental health, instead only inspiring him to come out on top.
He explained: “I think it’s what drives and motivates me.
“I use that s*** as fuel, I’m like say whatever you want to say, it’s just making me work harder to prove all of you wrong.

“I like nothing more than proving people wrong and every single day when I show up to practice there’s millions and millions of people wanting to see me fail and get knocked out.
“That drives me, so they’re just putting fuel into my gas tank to make me a sharper, faster, stronger individual.”
Paul’s star power cannot be denied. The 1.5million pay-per-views sold for his two-minute demolition of Askren in April are proof of that.
One week after, the former vlogger turned up to UFC 261 in Florida to support his friend Jorge Masvidal, 36, who was beaten by Kamaru Usman, 33.
Fans in the sold-out 15,000 seater stadium could be heard shouting ‘F*** Jake Paul’ while ex-UFC champion Daniel Cormier, 42, confronted the cruiserweight boxer.
But it was music to Paul’s ears, only growing his brand as boxing villain, while it reminded him of the group of supporters who have always been by his side.

Billy Joe Saunders mocks Canelo Alvarez’s failed drugs test as Eddie Hearn confirms fight is ON with ring dispute over

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS taunted Canelo Alvarez over his failed drugs test – after Eddie Hearn confirmed the fight is ON after a row over the ring-size. Team Saunders threatened to pull out of Sunday morning’s eagerly-anticipated super-middleweight title unification fight in Dallas as they wanted at least a 22-footer.

Billy Joe Saunders threatened to pull out his fight with Canelo due to a dispute over the size of the ringCredit: PA
Promoter Hearn said: “Billy was saying ‘I’m going home, I’m not fighting’, and I believe him – he is that crazy.
“I went back to Canelo and said ‘You can play a game of bluff about the ring size’, and he said ‘I don’t care about it’ so no problem – it will be 22 feet.
“I’m so excited about this fight… This is not the end of Billy Joe’s mind games.”
Saunders certainly proved that when the two boxers finally squared up – constantly telling Alvarez “You love the beef!” in a reference to a positive drug test before the Mexican took on Gennady Golovkin in 2018.
Alvarez’s team blamed contaminated meat after trace levels of clenbuterol were found in the voluntary tests.
Legend Alvarez nodded his head repeatedly as Saunders repeated his beef-based bashing – smiling coolly as he focused his eyes on the Brit.
Saunders then added: “You’ve never been in a ring with someone like me. someone with this (pointing to his heart).”
And as the pair were guided apart, Saunders chided: “Walk away. Walk away.”
Hearn described the clash as “one of the biggest three moments I’ve ever been involved in… and one of the biggest crowds in boxing history in the US”.

Welwyn warrior Saunders agreed to face the pound-for-pound king in a 22ft squared circle but has claimed promoter Eddie Hearn has only increased it by a single foot.
A fired-up Saunders earlier told iFL TV: “Eddie’s gone to 21ft, we’re arguing over a foot.
“I’m sure Eddie’s not that far stuck up Canelo’s a***, he’ll give an extra foot in the ring.”
“Once people see it’s only another foot, I’m sure he’ll compromise and do that.”
The issue appeared to be resolved on Tuesday night when southpaw Saunders said on Instagram: “I just want to say I’m pleased the issue is sorted.
