Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders scorecards revealed: Mexican winning all three cards despite brave Brit effort

CANELO ALVAREZ was winning on ALL three of the judges’ scorecards before his fight with Billy Joe Saunders was stopped. The Mexican P4P king forced the brave Brit to quit on his stool at the end of round eight to continue his super-middleweight dominance.

He had somewhat struggled to find his range during the bout, but ultimately his classy power shots prevailed.
And after Saunders could no longer continue due to a horror eye injury, the scorecards were revealed.
Judge Glen Feldman had it 78-74 Canelo, Tim Cheatham at 77-75 Canelo and Max DeLuca scored it 78-74 Canelo.
It was a tad harsh on Saunders, who put up a solid showing all night, ducking and weaving his rival’s attacks.
But he was rushed to hospital after the clash, with what is feared to be a broken eye socket.
Fans reacted with anger at the scorecards, and claimed Alvarez, 30, was getting a hometown decision.

Another added: “Jesus Christ this is what people mean with boxing judges.”

Billy Joe Saunders rushed to hospital with broken eye socket after quitting on stool during Canelo Alvarez fight

CANELO retained his WBC and WBA world titles with a savage stoppage over Billy Joe Saunders, making him quit with a sickening eye injury. The brave Brit was doing brilliantly well until a trademark blow smashed a gruesome welt around his eye in round eight and his corner stopped the Texas shootout.

Saunders was looking impressive in the middle rounds but then he dipped right into a thunderous uppercut that cracked his orbital bone, making his cheek swell and discolour immediately.
The winner roared: “I knew the fight would develop from round eight and I know that I improve every day.
“He was not winning any of the rounds, not at all, I was winning round-by-round.
    “I was adjusting very quickly.
“I knew it, I think I broke his cheek and I knew he would not come out. I told his corner he would not come out because I broke his cheek.”
Team Saunders – including the fighter’s father Tom – took their man to hospital.

Saunders was taken straight from the ring to a local hospital with what is believed to be a broken orbital bone.
The injury is the same facial fracture that forced Daniel Dubois out of his November clash with Joe Joyce.
Tyson Fury, Saunders’ childhood friend, was ringside in Dallas after walking his fellow Gyspy to the ring carrying his WBO world title.
The 6ft 9in WBC champ insisted his man would beat the pound-for-pound king on points in the unification bout with a jabbing masterclass.

When Saunders entered the AT&T arena, almost all of the 73,126 fans crammed inside booed the brave Brit.
The 31-year-old made his march to Winston Churchill’s ā€˜Fight Them on the Beaches’ speech and looked ice-cool on the long walk, dancing the final few steps to the hotly-debated 22x22ft ring.
Canelo, who was looking to beat his seventh British rival, wore a specially made t-shirt with the words ā€˜Keep Canelo and Carry On’.
Saunders got his southpaw jab going early as Canelo took the opening round to work his rival out.
Canelo liked the left hook to Saunders’ ribs and ventured an early uppercut.

The Hatfield man was jabbed into a corner and whacked with a straight right hand to the body and he used the exact same move moments later but whipped it round the torso.
Saunders started the second with a busy jab again but Canelo clipped him with a right hand and, after a couple of close-range uppercuts, another right made the Englishman wobble backwards.
In the third Saunders launched a one-two but Canelo slipped backwards out of range and then a right hook smashed into Saunders’ neck but he shook it off.
Saunders was wisely staying off of the ropes, where the flame-haired banger could harm him most, but Canelo’s corner told him in the break that he was slowly finding his rhythm.

Saunders started the fourth with a fizzing combination into Canelo’s guard.Ā
But then the Canelo upped the ante and started loading up with terrifying power shots.
Then, near the end of the session, Canelo crashed in an uppercut that almost smashed the gumshield out of Saunders’ controversial mouth.
Saunders scored with a brilliant double jab in the fifth, the second slamming into Canelo’s jaw and a big left hand landed sneakily on a clinch break.
And the 30-year-old favourite failed to recover as the Traveller enjoyed his best round of the fight so far.

Saunders made Canelo miss wildly in the sixth but managed to stop himself from showboating.
But seconds later, when Canelo scored with a couple of uppercuts, Saunders stuck out his tongue and wiggled it in his foe’s face.
Saunders was dancing beautifully to his right, avoiding Canelo’s booming right hand. The 4-1 underdog was making Canelo P4P king look very human in some stages.
Canelo seemed to be solely focused on huge single shots but Saunders was still willing to drop his hands and goad the brute.

But then Canelo turned up the heat and smashed a dark bruise into Saunders’ right eye.
The hometown hero then found his groove and landed a couple more and found time to wave his heavy hands to encourage the roaring crowd.
And Saunders was pulled out with the eye injury as it seemed to close up in the interval.

TYSON FURY showed off a black eye after stepping up his sparring in preparation to fight Anthony Joshua. The two heavyweight champions are on the verge of having their bout officially confirmed after promoter Eddie Hearn hinted at ‘good news’ this coming week.
Tyson Fury showed off his black eye after stepping up his sparring in preparation to fight Anthony Joshua
Fury has been in America training for the undisputed title decider with his camp starting in Las Vegas.
But the WBC champion moved him camp to Texas after flying out to support close friend Billy Joe Saunders.
Saunders, 31, lost to pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez, 30, in Texas and Fury was supporting from ringside.
The Gypsy King, 31, was captured by DAZN cameras before the super-middleweight unification.
And he appeared to be sporting a black eye as fans took to Twitter to point out the shiner.
One tweeted: “Tyson fury looks as if he’s been punched a cracker he’s got a right good bruised eye.”
Another wrote: “No one seems to be talking about Tyson Fury’s bruised eye…

Fury met Hearn in America and told the promoter what sequence of punches he believes will knockout AJ.
He said on Hearn’s BBC ‘No Passion, No Point’ podcast: “I will cut Anthony Joshua down like a hot knife through cheese.
“That’s how easy it’s going to be. That’s how easy it’s going to be.
“When he gets cracked with all them muscles right in the jaw, it’s like getting a boiled egg with a split down the middle, it can’t be repaired.
“He will go. I’ll even tell you what punch it’s going to be, I’ll even give my game plan away; it will be a check left hook straight to the temple.
“His legs will go and he’ll fall on his face. He may get back up and I’ll knock him out with the overhand right. Goodnight. Enough said.”

But fans voiced their fury online and accused Aguilera of acting up and accused Aguilera of giving up too easily.

Sanchez is ranked highest in the WBO at No6 and has already eyed the title Anthony Joshua owns.
His manager Mike Borao told Sky Sports in March: “Frank has his eyes set on the WBO world title and has instructed my partner Lupe Valencia and I to do everything in our power to deliver that opportunity.
Ā “As a result, I keep in very close contact with WBO president Paco Valcarcel, Gustavo Miranda, and NABO director Diana Melendez.
“Frank will have his sixth WBO/NABO title fight in May, but remains very focused on the world title.
“Lupe and I are working very hard to keep Frank busy and a May return is likely.
“If Frank doesn’t face a ‘top 15’ [opponent] it won’t be for lack of effort. Lots of guys in the top 15 simply won’t fight Frank.”

    ‘I DON’T GIVE A S***’
Billy Joe Saunders won’t be intimidated by Canelo Alvarez this evening.
He told DAZN: “The intimidation in this sport goes a long, long way – and control.
“There will be no controlling me.
“There’ll be none of this turning up late, doing this, doing what he wants – he’s the star of the show. I don’t give a s*** if he’s the star of the show.
“He may be the star of the show on paper, but trust me – it will not be all working his own way… he’ll have a very big shock.”

    MORE FROM CHRIS ALGIERI
Don’t poke the bear. It seems like it. It was funny that exchange with the handshake and the fist,” Algieri added when asked if Canelo will make Saunders pay for his trash talk.
ā€œI thought that was really indicative because it seemed like Billy Joe was going to fake it, and Canelo beat him to it. He’s like, ā€˜Uh ah.’
“I thought that was an interesting exchange between the two.Ā It seems like Canelo is fed up.”
Canelo is undefeated since being beaten by Floyd Mayweather in 2013
    READY TO PAY THE BIL
Canelo Alvarez is ‘fed up’ with Billy Joe Saunders ahead of their fight tonight, according to former world champion Chris Algieri.
Pound-for-pound king Canelo and WBO super-middleweight champion Saunders will meetĀ in front of 70,000 fansĀ in Texas for three of the 168-pound belts.
When asked if Saunders is trying to get under Canelo’s skin, Algieri told Fighthype: ā€œMaybe, but I also think that’s just the way Saunders is, and I mean in terms of his personality, not so much his fighting style.
ā€œMaybe that is why he does that, but I just think that’s the way he is. He’s a ball buster, and it’s hilarious. But Canelo is not looking too enthused.
ā€œI think this is the most focused I’ve seen him in a fight week in a long time.Ā He [Saunders] could [get it to work for him], but Canelo at this point is such a seasoned veteran.
“It’s going to be really tough to get him off his game, to get him off his focus to the point where it’ll affect him negatively.”
Saunders will be looking to cause a huge upset in the US
    RICE’N’EASY
West Ham star Declan Rice is backing Billy Joe Saunders to beat Canelo Alvarez this evening.
The England midfielder commented on Billy Joe’s latest Instagram snap ahead of tonight’s fight: “Let’s go billšŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ™Œ”
Declan Rice is backing his fellow Brit
    YOU’RE KIDDING
Let’s remind ourselves of just how much tonight’s shot at Canelo means to Billy Joe Saunders.
He told the Telegraph earlier this week: “This means everything to me, everything.
“Absolutely everything. More than money, more than fame, more than anything. I want to win this so bad.
“If it means I say goodbye to my kids, and I never see them again, I can leave this earth happy knowing I have won.
“It means that much to me. As us gypsies say, ‘We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over.'”
Billy Joe Saunders admits he’d walk away from his entire family if it meant he beat Canelo
    MAY HAPPEN

It comes with the 50-0Ā undefeated boxing legendĀ considering a shock return to professional boxing.
“Floyd is considering a return to professional boxing and wants to fight Billy Joe Saunders,ā€ the source said.Ā
“After the Logan Paul fight, he really wants to beat his brother Jake. Then he’s hoping to fight Conor McGregor next year.
“But he doesn’t just want to do these kinds of exhibition matches.
“He rates Billy Joe and he’s been in talks to fight him if he beats Canelo.Ā Remember Floyd is the only fighter to ever beat Canelo.
