Dubois claims Billy Joe Saunders may learn ‘life lesson’ after his ‘quitter’ jibe came back to bite him in Canelo loss

DANIEL DUBOIS reckons Billy Joe Saunders has learned a harsh lesson after suffering the same skull shattering injury he bullied him over. The 23-year-old boxed six rounds with a fractured eye socket against Joe Joyce in November before taking a knee and being counted out.

Saunders, 31, was one of a handful of current and former pros who bundled in to slam the softly-spoken heavyweight and never apologised.
So, on Saturday night when the Traveller suffered an almost identical injury from a Canelo uppercut, fight fans were quick to pick out the old comments allowing Dubois to take the high ground.
“It’s amazing how life works,” the former British champ said. “I thought Billy did well and it was a good fight up until that point.
“He was making it awkward and then the punch happened and Mark had to stop the fight.
“I had to f****** go through that one didn’t I?
“He made his decision really quickly but I’m not going to rub it in for Billy.
“He will be going through it now with the eye injury and how the fight ended.
“Maybe he will regret what he said about me, maybe this might teach him something. It could be a life lesson.”
Incredibly for a young fighter who faced such stinging criticism, Dubois refused to enjoy Saunders’ demise.

And he believes all fighters who risk their lives with every training session have the right to question the hearts of their rivals.
“Fighters are in their right to say things like that,” he said. “They go in and put their lives on the line, it’s within their right to say things like that.
“Fighters can say what they want, sometimes it can make a fight interesting or make a story around a fight interesting, if we are fighting each other.
“If they want to call me a quitter or whatever, it is what it is.
“Everyone is going to have their own mindset and opinion, we may not see it in the same way.
“Fighters, in my opinion, have a pass to say these things. They are the entertainers.”

Dubois switched trainers after the defeat and moved to Mark Tibbs, who took the decision to pull Saunders out in Texas when he said he could not see.
Trainer and new fighter are yet to work together as the respected cornerman has been away with Saunders’ three-month camp.
And Dubois insists if Saunders bounces back from his first defeat in 31 fights, he will have no problem sharing a gym with him as the best of enemies.
“Any loss, stoppage or whatever is going tobe a depressing thing,” DDD said. “I’ve heard the injury is bad. Will he come back? We will see but I’m sure he can.
“We might bond over it, fighters can get along together. Best of enemies and all that, look at David Haye and Derek Chisora who boxed each other and are now working together.
“This business is interesting and things like that can happen.”

Saunders slammed as ’embarrassment to sport’ as ex-world champ Vargas dismisses eye injury against Canelo as ‘scratch’

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS has been called an ‘embarrassment’ and accused of ‘not being a man’ after quitting against Canelo Alvarez. The Brit, 31, is believed to have suffered a fractured eye socket after he was caught by the Mexican with a vicious uppercut in the eighth round.

Former world champ Fernando Vargas slammed the Brit in a vicious Instagram rant
The star’s eye instantly swelled up and closed due to the multiple fractures of the orbital bone before his corner called the fight.
However, ex-WBA middleweight champion Fernando Vargas has no sympathy for him and tagged him in a vicious Instagram rant slating the wounded Saunders.
The 43-year-old retired American said: “You’re really going to freaking quit like a V, like a vagina.
“You’re really going to do that? ‘Oh, my eye.’ Come on, Vato, really? Unbelievable. How dare you call yourself a champion.
“You quit like a female dog. How dare you do that. You’re an embarrassment to the sport and to all men because you’re not even a man. You should be embarrassed.”
Vargas retired with a professional record of 26 wins and five defeats and he was renowned for withstanding heavy punishment.
He continued his rant against Saunders by claiming he is ‘built different’ and that his injuries were no more than a ‘little scratch’ – despite promoter Eddie Hearn revealing he had been rushed to hospital and his career was potentially in the balance.
Vargas added: “Vatos like me are just BUILT DIFFERENT than you. Vatos that say you will ‘DIE IN THE RING,’ and end up quitting for a little scratch or cut in your eye. What are you Vatos doing in the sport?”

Following Canelo’s victory, the icon revealed he knew that Saunders would not be coming back out for round nine.
He said: “I said it would be around round eight.
“I think I broke his cheek and I knew he wasn’t going to come out.
“I told my corner he’s not coming out because I broke his cheek. It was not as difficult as I expected and that is because of my preparation.”

Will Tyson Fury be latest victim of Versace ‘curse’ against Anthony Joshua after Conor McGregor and Billy Joe Saunders?

TYSON FURY could find himself ruing the day he decided to buy his expensive Versace dressing gown. The Gypsy King has been sporting the swanky clobber during his Las Vegas training camp with Sugarhill Steward.

The Gypsy King has been rocking his expensive robe along with coach Sugarhill Steward
But the dapper £355 gown – which comes in an array of colours – has brought bad luck to many fighters who have worn it before.
UFC stars Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya all tasted defeated after wearing the designer garment.
McGregor first sported the robe ahead of his 2017 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr, which he lost via tenth-round TKO.
Masvidal, meanwhile, wore the same robe at UFC 246 in a bid to get the Irishman’s attention – which resulted in him being brutally trolled by The Notorious.
And Gamebred would go on to lose his next two fights after rocking the housecoat.
UFC middleweight king Adesanya wore one ahead of his ill-fated move up to light-heavyweight to take on Jan Blachowicz, whom he suffered a unanimous decision loss to.
The Versace curse hit closer to home for Fury this past weekend when his good friend Billy Joe Saunders was beaten by Canelo Alvarez.

Brit Saunders rocked a black and gold version of the robe for his first face-off with the pound-for-pound king last week.
And he ended up suffering an eighth-round TKO loss to the Mexican mauler, who shattered the Hatfield hitman’s orbital bone with a vicious counter uppercut.
Fury’s legion of fans will be hoping the curse doesn’t continue when he locks horns with Anthony Joshua.
But the 32-year-old is brimming with confidence ahead of his clash with the Olympian, saying: “I will cut Anthony Joshua down like a hot knife through cheese.
“That’s how easy it’s going to be. That’s how easy it’s going to be.

“When he gets cracked with all them muscles right in the jaw, it’s like getting a boiled egg with a split down the middle, it can’t be repaired.
“He will go. I’ll even tell you what punch it’s going to be, I’ll even give my game plan away; it will be a check left hook straight to the temple.
“His legs will go and he’ll fall on his face. He may get back up and I’ll knock him out with the overhand right. Goodnight. Enough said.”
The WBC king is set to throw down with AJ in an undisputed heavyweight title fight in Saudi Arabia this summer.
July 24 was the targeted date, although the contest is now slated for August 14.

And the biggest fight in the history of British boxing is set to be announced later this week.
After Saunders’ defeat to Canelo, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, told Boxing Social: “We thought about making some noise tonight but, I think because of the various broadcasters, it wouldn’t have gone down too well.
“But I will tell you, it is 100 per cent being announced this week.
“Yes, I’ve said that a few times. I’m going one better than that, by our Manchester show… Oh f***ing, hell I’ve put myself in it now.
“I think I am safe to say that! We had a good meeting with the governing bodies where we confirmed that position to them.
“I’m not going to say too much, but..”

Bjornsson, 32, has been hard at work in the gym ever since the announcement of their clash, which has been dubbed The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.
But it appears one of his training partners may have got the better of him in sparring.
Bjornsson’s Instagram followers noticed the behemoth was sporting a black eye in his latest posts, one of which was a Mother’s Day tribute to his wife Kelsey Henson.
One commented: “Did training go a little bit wrong??”
Another asked: “What’s with the black eye?”
And another said: “Seems like your son got you good on the eye.”

Bjornsson, who played The Mountain on Game of Thrones, has shifted a considerable amount of muscle mass following his transition into boxing.
The Icelandic giant has shed a whopping four stone since he beat Hall’s world record deadlift last year.
A date for Bjornsson’s clash with his old pal has yet to be finalised.

“But what happened at World’s Strongest Man 2017 just threw all that friendship out the window.
“It was a big dagger in the back. That’s irreparable, three or four years with a cloud over my World’s Strongest Man win.
“What’s that cost me in terms of my career? He just doesn’t care.
“I still haven’t had an apology from him, he’s not denying it. He keeps saying he was robbed, hard done to.
“At the end of the day, if he’s got solid evidence bring it up. He’s full of c***.

Floyd Mayweather could fight Jake Paul after Logan but will NOT face both YouTuber brothers in same night

FLOYD MAYWEATHER could fight Jake Paul after Logan – but will NOT face the YouTubers in the same night. Mayweather is set for an exhibition bout against older brother Logan on June 6 in Miami.

But all hell broke loose last week as they came face-to-face for the first time at a press conference to promote their pay-per-view spectacle.
It started after Mayweather, 44, was called out by younger sibling Jake, 24, to fight him as well at the same event.
Things turned ugly after the social media star, who is 3-0 in his pro career, stole Mayweather’s hat, sparking a mass melee.
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather promotions, admitted the boxing legend could fight the Pauls back-to-back if he wanted to, but ruled it out from happening.
Ellerbe told TMZ Sports: “Realistically, he could. But no, from a business standpoint, no.
“Him and Logan are gonna have a great exhibition on the 6th of June and the whole world will be entertained.”
The brawl, and almost certain win for Mayweather, would set up a return fight against Jake.
Ellerbe refused to rule out the possibility, but maintained the focus is soley on Logan, 26, at this point.

He said: “Who knows? Who knows what the future might hold.
“But right now we have a huge, huge event it’s the biggest event of the year in the sport of boxing and we’re just really, really excited.”
A Mayweather insider exclusively revealed to SunSport that the boxing superstar could even return to professional boxing – with Jake Paul and Conor McGregor both in his sights.
Billy Joe Saunders was also seen as an option – however his defeat to Canelo Alvarez makes that scenario highly unlikely.
    DEATH THREAT
Mayweather was so irate after his hat was nicked by Jake, he threatened to KILL the social media sensation.
He could be heard yelling backstage: “I’ll kill you mother f***er. You crazy?
    “I don’t know who the f*** you think you’re playing with. I don’t play no motherf***ing games. I’ll f*** you up.”
Logan claimed the brawl, and threat against Jake’s life has now made the fight personal, as he denied the melee being staged.
He said: “I f***ing wish that wasn’t real. I wish that wasn’t staged.  That s*** is not funny, it’s not fun for anyone.
“That s*** just got personal by default. It was supposed to be like a cute little press conference, come together, get people excited for the fight.
“Now people are talking about killing people? What the f***. ”

Conor McGregor reveals training blueprint for Floyd Mayweather rematch as UFC star eyes revenge on boxing legend

CONOR MCGREGOR has revealed how he’d prepare for a potential rematch with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. The UFC’s poster boy locked horns with Money in a much-maligned boxing match in August 2017.

But The Notorious ended up suffering a tenth-round TKO defeat to the four-weight champCredit: PA
McGregor, 32, suffered a tenth-round TKO loss to the former four-weight world champion, with fatigue playing a major role in the stoppage.
And with the benefit of hindsight, The Notorious would make use of fresh attacking-minded training partners late into his sparring sessions.
During an impromptu Twitter Q&A on Sunday night, he said: “I’d have people press forward in sparring.
“Especially in the later rounds. A fresh body pressing forward for the last 4 rounds.”
Despite not having set foot inside the boxing ring since his ill-fated professional debut, McGregor is confident he’d get the better of the undefeated Mayweather.
After getting wind of Mike Tyson’s praise of his performance last March, the Irishman tweeted: “Thank you, Mike.

“And just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd.
“I promise my life on it.”
SunSport revealed earlier this year that preliminary talks over a second multi-million-pound showdown between the pair had taken place before The Notorious’ UFC 257 showdown with Dustin Poirier.
But defeat in his Abu Dhabi dust-up with The Diamond has temporarily scuppered the bout.
McGregor is currently gearing up a blockbuster trilogy fight with fan-favourite Poirier, who knocked him out in the second round of their January rematch.
Mystic Mac’s series decider with the pride of Lousiana will take place on July 10 and will serve as the main event of UFC 264 in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather, meanwhile, will face YouTuber Logan Paul in an exhibition on June 6Credit: Alamy

The retired Mayweather, meanwhile, is preparing for an exhibition bout with YouTube star Logan Paul.
The 44-year-old will throw down with the social media phenom on June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Mayweather’s clash with the elder Paul brother has been slammed by McGregor.
And after the boxing legend clashed with Logan’s brother Jake at their first face-off, he wrote on Instagram: “Hey Leonard Ellerbe, what the f*** is Floyd at?
“The kid curled up, didn’t fight back once, and Floyd is still running around acting the tough guy.
“The kid actually just pulled this shambles of a situation Floyd is in out of the drain for him. He should thank him. It’s embarrassing!
“Pro to pro it’s embarrassing. He will not scratch $10million for this fight and he knows it. It was cancelled once already.
“The world is watching this on Twitter. He’d fight a half decent pro and command $20million upwards, yet it’s this s***.
“Whatever way you spin this, it’s sad. Fight someone for real, on your record, or f*** off mate. Slap head!”

The bout took place over at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas with 73,000 fans in attendance.
Follow ALL of the latest reaction and updates below…
    WHAT CAN HE DO?
As seems to always be the case with Canelo, the question has now shifted to what next for the Mexican superstar?
SunSport looks at five names who the four-weight champion could potentially face next.
Click here to see the list.

    CAN ANYONE STOP CANELO?
Canelo’s a four-weight world champion and has lost to just one man in his professional career – Floyd Mayweather.
Can anyone stop the Mexican star?

ICYMI – ANDRADE CRASHES CANELO PRESSER
Canelo Alvarez was confronted by middleweight rival Demetrius Andrade in an X-rated altercation following the Mexican’s win over Saunders.
Andrade interrupted the presser by saying: “So when can we get something going on? Let’s make it happen. What’s up Canelo? Congratulations today though, good job baby, good job.
“I’m a big fan… but what’s up though? When can we make it happen? What you think?”
Canelo responded: “I know [you’re a fan]. Man, you fight with nobody. You are a champion but you fight with nobody. You won the belt with nobody.”
Andrade then questioned Canelo’s recent resume, before the American’s dad accused the Mexican of ‘avoiding’ his son.
This appeared to rile Alvarez who aggressively shouted: “Get the f**k out of here man. Please, get the f**k out of here. It’s my night.”
Andrade’s father then yelled: “Don’t you say to him to get out here. F**k you. Go ahead, come. Come. F**k you.”
And Andrade said: “Don’t swear at me. Don’t talk to my dad like that. I’ll f**k you up. I just asked you a simple question. What you gonna do? You tough? Watch your mouth bro. I congratulated you bro, watch your mouth.”
To which Alvarez said: “Hey, get the f**k out of here because I’m gonna f**k you up right now motherf**r. Hey, get the f**k out of here.
“Hey, you are a horrible fighter man. You never won against a good fighter. You are a horrible fighter. Horrible fighter. Just pay day, pay day, you want pay day, I know that.”
Andrade was then escorted from the room, but not before he could get the final word by saying: “Come beat me little b***h. When I see you, it’s on.”

    WHO’S NEXT FOR CANELO?
DAZN asked their followers who Canelo Alvarez should fight next – and there were some interesting responses.
Most believe the Mexican should fight IBF champion Caleb Plant, who holds the only super middleweight belt missing from Canelo’s collection.
Some want to see a rematch against Billy Joe Saunders – if the Brit can recover from his horrific eye injury.
There were calls for a trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin, although the Kazakhstani would need to make the step up from middleweight.
Others, meanwhile, want to see Canelo take on unified light middleweight champ Jermell Charlo.
And there’s talk of a scrap with Demetrius Andrade after the middleweight crashed Canelo’s post-fight press conference.
There was even one gent who offered to fight the Mexican himself!

    CARL OF DUTY
Elsewhere in boxing, Carl Froch has ACCEPTED an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr, who is nine-years his senior.
Jones has been left furious with Froch, who called the American ‘totally shot to bits’ by the time Joe Calzaghe beat him in 2008 aged 39.
Froch told SecondsOut: “Well, you never know do you?
“If we’ve got the same sort of format that he had with Mike Tyson, I’d be open to that. I really would.
“I wouldn’t get in there with a 12, three-minute fight against a current world champion, because it wouldn’t be right.
“I’d have to be stupid to think I could compete at that level, I retired for a reason.
“But eight, two-minute rounds against the right dance partner, to share the ring with a legend, an all-time great like Roy Jones Jr, just that would be amazing.”

    CANELO LOVES THE BRITS
Following his TKO against Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo Alvarez now has seven victories against British opponents.
The Mexican has also defeated Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Rocky Fielding and Callum Smith.

    CANELO’S HIT
A reminder of the punch that ended proceedings in Texas.
Canelo’s brutal uppercut has left Saunders needing surgery to fix his broken eye socket.
It’s going to be a long time before we see Billy Joe back in the ring – and it could be the case that he never fights again.

    SAUNDERS DAD GETS TACKLED
A disturbing video has been published on social media of Billy Joe Saunders’ dad getting tackled by security.
Tom Saunders, standing alongside heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, jumped the barriers to check on his son after he suffered an awful eye injury.
He was tackled by security as he made his way to the ring, triggering a mass brawl.
    Here’s the footage…

    TY IN THE SKY
Tyson Fury sent out a classy message to Billy Joe Saunders as he flew back on a private jet to continue his preparations to fight Anthony Joshua.
The WBC heavyweight champion was in Texas to support close friend Billy Joe Saunders, who fought pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez.
But it ended in heartbreak for Saunders, who was pulled out after round eight with a suspected broken eye socket.
There was no shame in the defeat and Fury hailed his friend for trying to shock the world.
He posted on social media: “We thank god for everything and everyone around us, after a great week in Texas with @bjsaunders_ we now keep on moving forward in this journey through life, ‘In God we trust’.
“People love to hate on others willing to chase there (sic) dreams, @bjsaunders_ tried to be great last night!

    MORNING BOXING FANS
Billy Joe Saunders underwent eye surgery yesterday on the shattered orbital bone he sustained in his defeat to Canelo Alvarez.
Eddie Hearn tweeted to confirm the Brit was going under the knife after he was taken straight to hospital after the stoppage.
Several high-profile boxing names – including Chris Eubank Jr – criticised Saunders for his withdrawal but British welterweight Ohara Davies said it was the right thing to do given the quality of his opponent.
He tweeted: “Some people are comparing Billy Joe’s injury to Daniel Dunois or to Ebanie Bridges eye, they both done very well to fight on despite their injuries, but surely having one Eye against Canelo Alvarez is Different than having one eye against Joe Joyce or Shannon Courtney.”
After the fight, Canelo was confronted by middleweight rival Demetrius Andrade in an X-rated altercation.
Andrade interrupted the post-fight press conference by saying: “So when can we get something going on? Let’s make it happen.
What’s up Canelo? Congratulations today though, good job baby, good job.
“I’m a big fan… but what’s up though? When can we make it happen? What you think?”
Canelo responded: “I know [you’re a fan]. Man, you fight with nobody. You are a champion but you fight with nobody. You won the belt with nobody.”
Andrade then questioned Canelo’s recent resume, before the American’s dad accused the Mexican of ‘avoiding’ his son.
This appeared to rile Alvarez who aggressively shouted: “Get the f** out of here man. Please, get the f*** out of here. It’s my night.”
Andrade’s father then yelled: “Don’t you say to him to get out here. F*** you. Go ahead, come. Come. F*** you.”
And Andrade said: “Don’t swear at me. Don’t talk to my dad like that. I’ll f*** you up. I just asked you a simple question. What you gonna do? You tough? Watch your mouth bro. I congratulated you bro, watch your mouth.”
To which Alvarez said: “Hey, get the f*** out of here because I’m gonna f*** you up right now motherf***er. Hey, get the f*** out of here.
“Hey, you are a horrible fighter man. You never won against a good fighter. You are a horrible fighter. Horrible fighter. Just pay day, pay day, you want pay day, I know that.”

    ED-ING IN TO SURGERY
Billy Joe Saunders is undergoing surgery on his eye socket, according to Eddie Hearn.
The Brit had his orbital bone smashed by Canelo Alvarez overnight in his defeat to the Mexican.
And the Matchroom promoter updated fans on his current state.

    CAN-NOT COMPARE
British welterweight Ohara Davies has had his say on Billy Joe Saunders’ eye injury during his defeat to Canelo last night.
Saunders withdrew with a shattered eye socket and boxing fans were quick to compare it to other similar incidents.
Both Ebanie Bridges and Daniel Dubois sustained eye problems in recent fights but Davies reckons the quality of Saunders’ opponent means you can’t compare.
Some people are comparing Billy Joe’s injury to Daniel Dunois or to Ebanie Bridges eye, they both done very well to fight on despite their injuries, but surely having one Eye against Canelo Alvarez is Different than having one eye against Joe Joyce or Shannon Courtney— Ohara Davies (@OharaDavies) May 9, 2021

    EU GOTTA BE KIDDING!
Chris Eubank Junior pulled no punches after his old foe Billy Joe Saunders’ corner pulled him out of his fight against Canelo.
Eubank took to social media to hit out at the Brit and suggested he would not have ‘quit’ if he was in the same situation.

Canelo Alvarez continued on his path to greatness with his stoppage win over Billy Joe Saunders overnight.
Many had tipped the Brit to put a stop to the Mexican’s phenomenal run.
But after Canelo smashed his eye socket to pieces, Saunders’ corner decided to pull him out and the South American marched on.

    CLASS IS PERMANENT
Canelo Alvarez took time to taunt Billy Joe Saunders as he forced a stoppage in Dallas overnight.
The Mexican smashed up the Brit’s eye socket forcing his corner to throw in the towel.
And this snap as good as summed up the evening’s events.

    BUILDING BRIDGES
Ebanie Bridges has offered her support to Billy Joe Saunders having initially questioned the severity of his eye injury following his defeat to Canelo Alvarez.
The British star, 31, was forced to throw in the towel shortly before the ninth round against his superb Mexican opponent on Saturday following a brutal uppercut which fractured his eye socket.
The Blonde Bomber, 34, initially tweeted: “Don’t tell me he stopped cos of his eye……” But after receiving a backlash from boxing fans, Bridges took to Instagram to throw her support behind Saunders – who was rushed to hospital following his loss to Canelo and could even be forced to retire.
Bridges wrote: “I Defs wasn’t in there with canelo, but I was in a lot of pain and I couldn’t see for 3 rounds…
“I went to emergency after the fight as everyone suspected a break but luckily for me there was no breaks. At first I was like wtf why they stopping the fight cos it didn’t look that bad….
“But I do feel for @saundersbillyjoe I thought he was Defs in the fight, I’m sure he would of liked to continue, the corner did their job. It might not look as bad as mine looked on the outside but I’m sure it’s very serious.”

    TRASH TALK
Canelo was confronted by middleweight rival Demetrius Andrade in an X-rated altercation following the Mexican’s win over Saunders.

Five options for Billy Joe Saunders’ career after brutal loss to Canelo Alvarez including Eubank rematch and retiring

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS has some big decisions to make after his devastating defeat to Canelo Alvarez. The Brit lost his WBO super-middleweight belt as well as his undefeated record after his corner pulled him out before the ninth round.

Saunders had suffered a sickening eye injury after a brutal uppercut by Canelo in the eighth.
He is reportedly set for surgery on a broken orbital bone and that could put his very future in the sport in jeopardy.
Here, SunSport lists five options for the 31-year-old Hatfield fighter going forward.
    RETIREMENT
After banking £5million from his ultimately unsuccessful shot at the biggest of fights out there, Saunders could well hang up the gloves.
After a decorated amateur career that included fighting at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and then going on to become a two-weight world champ in the pros, he has achieved plenty.
And doctors’ advice could make the decision an even easier one for Saunders.
Some reports in America stated that the Brit had suffered ‘multiple fractures’ to the orbital bone that could well cut short his career.

    EUBANK JR REMATCH
There was one boxer who took particular delight in seeing Saunders lose in brutal style to Canelo – and that was Chris Eubank Jr.
The son of the boxing legend with the same name bet £10,000 on Saunders to get KO’d by Canelo, and promised to donate the £10,000 he won to charity.
Saunders beat Eubank Jr in a split decision in 2014 – with the loser that night believing he had done enough to win.
In terms of a crowd-puller, this would be the domestic dust-up to make – with whoever is defeated surely at the end of the road.

    MMA SWITCH
Could Saunders become the next sports star for a crossover fight?
He certainly has no fear after getting into the boxing ring against a fighter who will go down as one of the greats.
And he trained with a number of MMA stars during his US camp for the Canelo fight – he might have learnt some new fighting techniques there.

    MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT
It’s a fair criticism that Saunders seems to lack the power at super-middleweight.
He stepped up from middleweight after becoming frustrated with fights falling through – but at least at that weight his power could trouble opponents.
Demetrius Andrade is the WBO champ, and while he seems to fancy a crack at Canelo, Saunders could get a shot at Boo Boo.
Their fight in 2018 was scrapped when Saunders tested positive for a banned substance – he insists to this day it was as a result of using a nasal congestant.

    JOIN TYSON FURY’S CORNER
Saunders has come out supporting WBC champ Tyson Fury in previous fights, and for the Canelo scrap Fury in return was a constant fixture alongside his pal in fight week.
If retirement is the way forward, Billy Joe could always join Team Fury.
Big entourages are nothing new in boxing, so Fury adding his best mate and experienced pro Saunders to the stable seems straightforward enough.
