Jake Paul named in top three richest boxers of 2020 with £14m and warns Anthony Joshua and Canelo he’ll beat them to top

JAKE PAUL was named in the top three richest boxers of 2020 with £14million earned in and out of the ring. Only superstars Anthony Joshua and Canelo Alvarez were ahead of the social media star in a list compiled by sports finance website Sportico.

Paul fought twice in the last 12 months – knocking out Nate Robinson and Ben Askren, both 36.
And the YouTuber – who wants to become a billionaire boxer – warned ‘we just getting warmed up’ upon hearing the news of his mega earnings.
Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez was the only boxer to make Sportico’s list of 100 highest paid athletes – coming in 12th with his £45m earnings.
Both Joshua, 31, and Paul, 24, just missed the list with one of the website’s reporters putting both of their earnings at £14m plus.
Canelo has fought three times in the last 12 months – beating Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders in Texas and Avni Yildirim in Miami.
The boxing pound-for-pound No1 earned £43m for those fights and an additional £1.4m in endorsements.
Joshua, meanwhile, has had just one bout when he beat Kubrat Pulev at Wembley Arena last December.
Ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, is the highest paid sportsman on the list – raking in £147million in prize money and endorsements.

Having only fought once this year, a knockout loss to Dustin Poirier in January, the bulk of his wealth came outside the cage.
He earned £19.8m for his UFC 257 defeat to Poirier, 32, which has set up an immediate rematch on July 10 in Las Vegas.
Where the money really came in was after he sold shares in Proper 12.
Proximo Spirits purchased a controlling interest in his whiskey company.
The deal, which will see McGregor remain the face of the brand, is a major part of the £127m earned away from the UFC.

Anthony Joshua ramps up Oleksandr Usyk training as he spars southpaw Wadi Camacho in preparation for heavyweight fight

ANTHONY JOSHUA has ramped up his preparations to face Oleksandr Usyk by sparring southpaw Wadi Camacho. The unified heavyweight king has had to drastically switch up training camp after his fight with Tyson Fury fell to pieces.

AJ has now turned his attention to WBO mandatory challenger Usyk by recruiting lefty sparring partners.
One of those is cruiserweight Camacho, 35, who shared recent pictures with Joshua online.
The former Commonwealth champion has not fought since September 2019, when he was beaten by Deion Jumah.
Camacho’s southpaw style was enlisted following the news Fury, 32, would be fighting Wilder, 35, next, not Joshua, 31.
The Gypsy King and AJ were closing in on a deal for an undisputed title decider on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
But at the final hurdle, Wilder’s right to a trilogy bout with Fury was awarded after a lengthy arbitration.
The Brit drew with his heavyweight rival in 2018 but won the rematch two years later, which included a contracted third bout.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Fury’s side argued the stipulation expired as they instead entered talks with Joshua.

But Wilder’s legal case later went his way and with no plans to take a step aside fee, all of a sudden AJ was left out in the cold.
The WBO, who had initially given Joshua clearance to proceed with his unification, then ordered him to face Usyk, 34.
Promoter Eddie Hearn told DAZN: “Subject to a few details from the WBO like the purse bid, that is the first fight.
“It looks like the end of August. Since the [Kubrat] Pulev fight, AJ’s whole life has been about the Fury fight.
“His training, his sparring, everything has been geared to that.  So now we have to reset, he’s fighting Usyk, a southpaw.
“He had no problem fighting Usyk so he said if you feel like the deal is right, let’s proceed.”

Jake Paul warned he would be KOd by UFC legend Conor McGregor’s sparring partner Dillon Danis with fight in works

JAKE PAUL was warned he would be beaten in a boxing match by Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. Danis, a 2-0 Bellator welterweight, has long rivalled the YouTuber online but the pair are yet to settle the score.

The jujitsu champion has not lost hope of facing the 3-0 social media star-turned boxer and continues to tease a venture into the ring.
And after a recent sparring session with gym-mate Peter Queally, Danis was backed to take the bragging rights home.
Queally, 34, posted: “Hadn’t sparred @dillondanis in ages and honestly was just gassing him up about the Jake Paul fight the past few months because he is my friend.
“This is exactly what you should be doing by the way, if your friends aren’t gassing you up every chance they get then they aren’t your friends.
“But anyway, after what I witnessed from him today, I have now seen enough empirical evidence to say he beats Jake in a boxing match.
    “Set it up!!”
Paul, 24, offered Danis, 27, a fight in March but the unbeaten MMA contender was ruled out with a knee injury.
The social media star instead went on to face retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, in April, winning in the first round.

Paul has since signed for Showtime, the same network who televise Danis’ MMA promotion Bellator.
But the internet celebrity ruled out ever fighting his rival, as he insisted it would not be a challenge and unfair for the fans to pay for.
Paul told SunSport: “If I were to fight Dillon the excuses would pile in even before I destroy him.
“They’d say, ‘He’s only had two fights, he does jiujitsu and he’s not a striker’.
“I’m not challenging myself, I’m almost letting the fans down and the community as I’m literally going to go in there and knock this guy out in one or two rounds.
“I’m tired of my fans paying $50 and they only get one minute. I want a challenge. I want someone to punch me in the f***ing face.
“This is fighting and I haven’t been hit yet in my three professional fights.
“I’m a little disappointed and I know I don’t get paid extra being in there for longer rounds but, like let’s put on a show here.”

Watch Floyd Mayweather hit pads and speed bag in training for Logan Paul as YouTuber blasts ‘pipsqueak’ boxing legend

FLOYD MAYWEATHER was captured hitting the pads and speed bag in training for his exhibition bout with Logan Paul. The boxing legend faces Paul on June 6 in Miami and appears to be taking the pay-per-view spectacle seriously.

Mayweather, 44, recently shared sparring pictures from inside his Las Vegas gym where his gloves, head guard and vest were covered in blood.
But it did not faze Paul, as the YouTuber hit back by releasing the results of his own bloodied sparring sessions.
And the 6ft 2in social media star poked fun at ‘pipsqueak’ Mayweather, who stands 5ft 8in, as he tried to initiate a war of words.
Paul, 26, said on Instagram: “Floyd Mayweather is so excited that he made someone bleed in sparring.
“He posted the same picture twice from the same day, he’s so excited.
“Hey champ, you’re not the only person who makes people bleed in sparring. Who are you sparring bro? You’re sparring trash.
“You pipsqueak. June 6 is going to be the worst day of your life dog. I’m going to make this so hard for you.”
Paul has been preparing for the fight of his life 3,000 miles away from Mayweather’s Vegas base having moved to Puerto Rico.

There, he sparred amateur boxer Lucas Ruiz, who opened up on how the internet sensation CAN cause a shock upset.
Ruiz, 24, told SunSport: “Overall, I’ve got to say; Logan Paul could knock out Floyd Mayweather, if he learns how to time his punches and finds him rhythm, his timing, his range.
“He’s long and he knows how to use his range a little bit. I told Logan the right hand is the shot, because Mayweather is shorter than Logan.
“Logan is taller and he can throw a bomb that can land. I think this is the first time Mayweather is fighting somebody as big as Logan Paul, to be honest.
“That man, Logan, he’s big, I’m not going to lie. I’m 5’9, I believe Mayweather is 5’8, and you can definitely tell the size difference.
“Logan is muscular too, he’s in shape, I’m telling you. I hope Floyd don’t go to sleep on him.”

Deontay Wilder will look ‘crazy if he gets destroyed’ by Tyson Fury or ‘come out looking brilliant’, Malignaggi says

DEONTAY WILDER will look ‘crazy if he gets destroyed’ by Tyson Fury in their rematch or ‘come out looking brilliant’, Paulie Malignaggi said. Wilder will face his heavyweight rival for a third time after his right to a trilogy bout was awarded in arbitration.

The American passed up on the opportunity of a step aside fee, which would have allowed Fury to fight Anthony Joshua.
Wilder, who was dethroned of the WBC belt in February 2020, could have also taken interim bouts in the meantime on the road to redemption.
But instead, he has rolled the dice and backed himself to beat Fury – a sign the heavy-hitter has not lost confidence in his right hand.
Malignaggi, 40, told DAZN: “He could have waited in the wings and got a comeback win but no, his actions prove he genuinely believes what he’s saying.
“One per cent doubt is too much. He’s going to come off looking crazy if he gets destroyed, or he’ll come out looking brilliant.
“When you’re one step ahead of people you look smart, if you’re two steps ahead you look insane.”
Wilder, 35, first drew with Fury, 32, in 2018 but he was emphatically beaten in the rematch two years later.
The second fight included an immediate rematch clause but amid the coronavirus pandemic, the trilogy bout was cancelled.

Fury’s side then argued the stipulation expired as they instead entered talks with Joshua, 31, for an undisputed title decider in Saudi Arabia in August.
All meanwhile Wilder fought his case in civil court and a mediator later ruled in his favour after months of talks.
Fury was then faced with either paying the former champion a compensation package or proceeding with the trilogy.
Neither had any plans to negotiate a step aside deal, meaning their series would be renewed, with a headliner set for July 24 in Las Vegas.
Wilder comes into the fight having made a litany of baseless excuses on why he suffered his first loss, including Fury having WEIGHTS in his gloves.
But Malignaggi argued the laughable excuses are all part of the Bronze Bomber refusing to believe his aura of invincibility died out.
How Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder stack up ahead of the trilogy fightCredit: SUNSPORT
He said: “I don’t think it would have been a bad idea for Wilder to take an in-between fight.
“I don’t like the way he lost the fight being so one-sided. He took a lot of physical trauma which can leave some doubt in you.
“He came off as a sore loser, but here’s what I like about that. You’ve got to be in denial about yourself as a fighter.
“If Wilder seriously believes he can beat Fury then all his way of thinking, crazy as it sounds, is the only way to back himself up for that match.
“He has to believe something, because he can’t just feel, ‘This guy’s better than me’. I think he’s in denial and I don’t have a problem with that.”

Anthony Joshua warned by Tommy Fury not to ‘mess up’ blockbuster Tyson Fury fight by losing to Oleksandr Usyk

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been warned not to ‘mess up’ a mega-fight with Tyson Fury by losing to Oleksandr Usyk.Joshua was on course to face Fury in a blockbuster undisputed heavyweight title bout in August before an American judge ordered The Gypsy King to face Deontay Wilder.

A showdown with former undisputed cruiserweight champion Usyk is now in the works for AJ, who was quick to unleash his wrath on Fury.
And Fury’s brother Tommy has urged the former Olympic champ not to permanently scupper the long-awaited Battle of Britain by losing to the Ukrainian.
During an appearance on talkSPORT, Tommy said of the fight: “You can’t let that go by. Both men aren’t ancient.
“It’s not like they’re 35 or 36, both are in the prime of their lives whether it’s going to be this year or next it doesn’t really matter.
“Both men just have to secure it from their sides. I know Tyson is going to secure it, so it’s really on AJ not to mess up like he did before.
“He’s got to take care of his business.”

Fury, 32, dethroned Wilder last February in Las Vegas to complete a remarkable return to the sport.
And Tommy is adamant his older brother will turn in a repeat performance in their Sin City trilogy fight.
He said: “Tyson’s mindset and his team’s mindset is he doesn’t care. He’s the best fighter on the planet.
“It doesn’t matter if he’s fighting Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder.
“That AJ fight is going to come. He’s going to knock Wilder out this time and he’s going to wish he’d never picked up the phone to fight.
“It is what it is, he’s in the mindset now, he’s absolutely untouchable, there’s no one beating Tyson but himself, that’s just the bottom line.
The tale of the tape ahead of Tyson Fury’s trilogy fight with Deontay WilderCredit: SUNSPORT

“He’s not bothered about who he fights. You’re going to see the best Tyson Fury.
“It shocked all of us as it was all done and cemented.
“Everyone working with Tyson and the other side of it was all confirmed and then suddenly there was a slip up and he’s fighting Wilder.
“That just shows the craziness of boxing. When something’s nailed on it’s not really nailed on.
“You never know what’s going to happen.
“I’m sure it’s going to be a great fight again and hopefully we can see the Joshua fight before the end of the year and if not maybe next year.
“I think it will still happen as it’s too big of a fight not to happen. This is one of the biggest fights ever.”

Sky Sports announce Floyd Mayweather fight with Logan Paul will cost hefty £16.95 as fans rage ‘it’s a sham of a fight’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER’S exhibition fight against Logan Paul will cost viewers in the UK £16.95 to watch. And that price to see the undefeated boxing legend take on a YouTuber has been met with ridicule by many on social media.

Many people in the UK are not impressed with the Box Office bout
Mayweather, 44, has shared intense training videos recently as he prepares to take on a man several weight divisions above him – and two decades younger.
His regular sparring partner Denis Douglin has even expressed his shock at Mayweather training as if he is having a ‘proper fight’
But the general consensus is that the Sky Sports Box Office bout will be a walk in the park for the man known as ‘The Money’.
And paying £16.95 for the privilege of watching of watching it in the early hours of Monday, June 7 for people in the UK doesn’t seem that appealing.
Stefan Broome tweeted that: ‘They should pay us £16.95 to watch it.”
Matt Irwin added that it was ‘£17 saved’, while Paul Smith posted that he ‘wouldn’t watch it if it was free to air’.
Jonathan Best wrote that it was ‘an embarrassing event’.
Mark Passfield quipped that the event ‘will cost me £0’ – one person who clearly won’t be parting with any money.

The exhibition appears like it could be a hard sell

‘Farce’, ‘useless event’, ‘circus’ and ‘sham of a fight’ were just some of the descriptions used for the clash.
Many boxing fans were angered that Josh Taylor’s stunning undisputed junior-welterweight victory against Jose Ramirez was ignored by the big broadcasters – yet Sky Sports are promoting Mayweather vs Paul.
Darren Newton wrote on Twitter: “Would rather have paid that for Josh Taylor.”
Ian Johnston added that he ‘would have paid this for Taylor’, but not this ‘nonsense’.
Mayweather is apparently ‘p****d off’ and has a ‘fire lit under him’ after Logan’s brother Jake stole his hat.
So says sparring partner Douglin, who thinks the 44-year-old will make Logan ‘pay’ for his brother’s indiscretions.
