Tyson Fury’s dad John worried his son could LOSE Wilder trilogy and hits out at ‘leeches’ surrounding WBC champ

JOHN FURY has slammed the circumstances that led to son Tyson’s fight with Anthony Joshua being abandoned in favour of a third match-up against Deontay Wilder. And he is worried the Gypsy King could LOSE his trilogy bout against his American rival.

Fury Jr will defend his WBC belt against the American in Las Vegas on July 24 having previously hoped to face AJ to unify the division.
The timeline of the agreement, which was forced upon Fury after an arbitration ruling in the US, has led to dad John describing the scenario as ‘diabolical’ and a ‘mistake’.
In an interview with BT Sport, the 57-year-old blamed the American influence in his son’s camp, with some members deemed ‘leeches’.
He stated: “Tyson, obviously, is in a different league now – 20,000 yes men around him.
“This is what happens when you get to the top. There’s lot of leeches out there, a lot of hangers on.
“You can see what’s happening out there in America with him. Appalling work, to be honest with you.
    “But that’s just my opinion, I’m straightforward. That’s Tyson’s business, he’s over 21. It’s up to him.”

Fury Sr added his fear that the heavyweight unification battle may never happen with both Tyson and AJ vulnerable to defeat in their upcoming fights.
Joshua is set to face Oleksandr Usyk in defence of his world titles later this year.
Fury continued: “Anything rushed is no good, and that’s been rushed.
“He was fighting AJ. I wanted him to fight AJ. I’ve no interest in Deontay Wilder, so why has he got to fight Wilder?
“I told him on a phone conversation, ‘Chuck the belt in the bin. Let them have it. Come back and fight AJ on the 14th of August, like was planned.'”
He added: “I’m just concerned whether Tyson can raise his game for Wilder.
It’s madness, and my son’s caught up in the middle of it. And I’m not a happy man, about any of it.John Fury
“Whether he gets complacent, makes a mistake, I don’t know. It’s got every chance of going wrong out there.
“Because I don’t like how it’s been handled. It’s been badly handled and that’s just my opinion, no-one else’s.
“Tyson knows what he’s doing. Tyson, get back on a plane, let’s have a look at the situation properly. Let’s assess it. But there’s no bright lights and glitz here, Wythenshawe.”
John Fury is chiefly concerned about ‘fair play’ impacting Tyson’s trilogy showdown with Wilder.

The 32-year-old’s stunning win over the Bronze Bomber ’embarrassed’ the American boxing powers who he believes have ‘trapped’ the pair into another fight.
The former fighter noted: “I just feel like they’ve done it all wrong. They’ve done it on the 11th hour when everybody knew about the arbitration.
“And I was told the arbitration was under control – it’s not a problem. All of a sudden at the 11th hour, it is a problem.
“Madness, but the only problem is, it’s madness, and my son’s caught up in the middle of it. And I’m not a happy man, about any of it.”

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury warned fans are deserting boxing for UFC in droves by AEW star Anthony Ogogo

ANTHONY OGOGO warned British boxers they must put fans first or risk them deserting the sport for UFC — as he is  seeing in the US.Punters were frustrated to see the huge heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua  KO’d by legal wrangling.

Brit Ogogo, 32, was forced to  retire  from  boxing two years ago after a devastating eye injury.
But he told SunSport: “There’s no way that fight should happen  in Saudi Arabia, that fight can ONLY happen at Wembley Stadium.
“Two British world champions, it HAS to happen at Wembley.”
Ogogo has started a new career Stateside in the new All Elite Wrestling, run by  Fulham co-owner Tony Khan.
Ex-Olympian Ogogo  won middleweight bronze at London 2012 but is barely recognisable having bulked up for his new career.

He faces Cody Rhodes — son of WWE legend Dusty — on tomorrow’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view event while nursing a broken rib.
He added: “Over here now in America UFC is way bigger than boxing.
    “For me and Cody’s weigh-in and  face-off, everyone’s saying, ‘We’ll do a UFC-type weigh-in’.
    “And I’m thinking surely  a UFC-type weigh-in is  boxing-style weigh-in?
“People love UFC here — fights are made easier,  more regularly, there’s no 12 to 15-month build-up.
“Often when you build up so much, it’s a letdown.

Deontay Wilder desperate to ‘derail’ plans for Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua and was ‘thrilled’ when trilogy announced

DEONTAY WILDER was ‘thrilled’ after learning that Tyson Fury would have to face him again this summer. And the Bronze Bomber is desperate to further ‘derail’ plans for a Battle of Britain heavyweight unification bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua.

The pair had been all set to fight on August 14, before the arbitrator ruled that Fury must face Wilder again, within 24 hours of the announcement.
The former WBC champion, 35, was well beaten by the Gypsy King last February, having been fortunate to clinch a draw in the pair’s first meeting in 2018.
But he will have a third crack at Fury on July 24, after an arbitration court ruled that the Morecambe puncher must face him again this summer.
Wilder has been quiet on the matter, but his co-manager Shelly Finkel has opened up on the American’s state of mind going into the summer.
He told Sky Sports: “Just thrilled. It was just phenomenal.
“It was a great, great feeling. There’s a parable about the dog with the bone.
“The big bone was Saudi Arabia, and you end up with nothing. [Bob] Arum [Fury’s promoter] wants it in July, because they believe Fury is just going to walk through Deontay, and then they can get that fight on with Joshua, provided he beats Usyk in the fall.
“That’s what their game-plan is obviously, but we aim to derail that. We’ll see.”

Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum are both keen to get the fight between Fury and AJ on for December – provided Joshua also beats Oleksandr Usyk.
Finkel, 76, went on to reveal that Wilder’s camp never even received an offer to step aside.
He added: “We never looked for a step aside or anything.
“But on my logic, if it were me, and I were in Eddie’s shoes and before the decision, I’m looking at 150million, plus PPV, plus international TV, whatever. Probably looking close to 200million.
“What would it take to say, ‘Hey guys, there is a chance we’ll lose, so instead of making 200million, let’s offer them something and see if they’re interested?’
“It never came to that. It’s just silly. If it were me, I would have spoke to my fighter, and said, ‘Look, instead of making 100 million, make 90.’
“A lot more than he’s going to make to fight Usyk, for sure and we hope to disrupt the party.”

Hafthor Bjornsson sends rival Eddie Hall a warning ahead of September 18 showdown after gruelling warm-up bout

HAFTHOR BJORNSSON endured a gruelling warm-up fight against Simon Vallily in his final exhibition fight before his 18 September bout against Eddie Hall.Bjornsson, well known for his playing The Mountain in Game of Thrones, got four rounds of solid boxing in against pro boxer Vallily.

Both men approached the first round cautiously, testing one another at range.
Vallily tested the Icelandic former World’s Strongest Man winner’s chin with a solid left hook in round two, sending the big man stumbling.
But Bjornsson recovered well and caught Vallily, sending the 35-year-old tumbling.
However, it wasn’t counted as a knockdown.
The referee deemed Vallily’s fall due to the tangling of the pairs legs rather than the punch itself.
In round three, Bjornsson found himself on the canvas – but much like the round before the fall wasn’t counted as a knockdown.
The 32-year-old got back to his feet and came out fighting for the rest of the round, bundling Vallily over.
Round four was quiet, both men evidently tired from the prior rounds.

The bout was ruled a draw due to exhibition rules, but Vallily looked the more polished boxer as expected.
After the fight, Bjornsson acknowledged that Vallily put him to the test: “Simon [Vallily] was a good opponent to me, this was good to test my chin as well as my ability to fight in the ring against a professional.
“He gave me some good shots, good hooks that landed well.
“I was very happy with my performance.”
The Mountain also issued a warning to his rival Hall – 2017 winner of the World’s Strongest Man – ahead of their fight which is being called the ‘heaviest fight in boxing history in Las Vegas later this year.
Bjornsson added: “Eddie Hall, you better be training your a** off.
“Because I’m coming for you, and I’m knocking you out – you’re going down.
“I respect you as an athlete, and I know you’re training hard, but I am going to knock you out, see you soon!

Ricky Hatton wants Josh Taylor to take on Teofimo Lopez in blockbuster showdown after winning Ramirez unification

The win saw Taylor pick up the WBC and WBO titles to go alongside the WBA, IBF, and Ring magazine titles he already held.
In his new column for Metro, Hatton congratulated Taylor, saying: “It was unbelievable what Josh accomplished.
“It was a great day for British boxing and for Scottish boxing and I still think the best is yet to come from him.
“It will be interesting to see what he does next and maybe the next move will be to move to welterweight.”
Hatton went on to name unified lightweight world champion Lopez as a possible opponent, and claims the American could make the jump up from the lightweight division.
He continued: “Or, you’ve got what would be a good fight against Teofimo Lopez, he could move up from lightweight no problem.
“Then Josh is getting his defining fight in the sense that it is against a real big name.
“He has won five world titles, is undisputed super-lightweight champion but then you get the defining fights that follow.

“I had my first world title against Kostya Tszyu before Luis Collazo, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
“He has won all the titles, now he is going to get that big defining name. And no one deserves it more than him.”
Lopez, 23, is willing to fight Taylor, but he does not want the fight to be staged in Britain.
Speaking ahead of his title defence on 19 June against George Kambosos Jr, he told the Mirror: “I won’t take that fight in the UK.
“Not because I don’t believe I would beat him in the UK, it’s just that I can see how much of the animosity there is from folks caring that I’m ‘not undisputed’ at 135, so I could just see the favouritism over there.
“That fight will be somewhere over here, but at the end of the day I’m slowly becoming a cash cow in this division and these guys can make a better paycheque fighting me where I choose.
“I do eventually want to fight in the UK, however, I don’t want to give anybody the upper hand over me, I’ve done that numerous times so the whole thing now is about playing my cards right.
“But I do want to make those fights happen, though.”
Taylor, however, appears to have his sight set on a fight with Terence Crawford after winning his unification fight.
After the win, he said: “I’d like to go up to 147 and chase a real, real big fight like Terence Crawford.
“I’m not gonna sit and call him out and stuff, I think he’s a great fighter, but I just think, two undisputed champions going at it at 147 would be awesome, amazing.”

Anthony Joshua studies Kubrat Pulev win as he ramps up training and preparation for tough Oleksandr Usyk fight

And he was keen to go over the finer details of the ninth-round stoppage after uploading an image on social media watching back the fight.
Joshua, 31, thought the KO against Pulev, 40, had set him up with an undisputed title decider with Tyson Fury, 32.
The Brits had agreed terms for a showdown in Saudi Arabia on August 14 which would have seen for the first time ever, all four heavyweight belts on the line.
But at the final hurdle, Deontay Wilder’s right to a trilogy bout with Fury was awarded after a lengthy arbitration.
The WBC champion drew with his 35-year-old rival in 2018 but won the rematch two years later, which included a contracted third bout.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Fury’s side argued the stipulation expired as they instead entered talks with Joshua.
But Wilder’s legal case later went his way and with no plans to take a step aside fee, all of a sudden AJ was left out in the cold.
The WBO, who had initially given Joshua clearance to proceed with his unification, then ordered him to face mandatory challenger Usyk, 34.
