Deontay Wilder reveals why he hired ‘genius’ Malik Scott ahead of Tyson Fury fight – despite KOing trainer in 2014

DEONTAY WILDER revealed he hired Malik Scott for his ‘genius’ – despite knocking him out in 2014. Scott, also a former sparring partner of the Bronze Bomber’s, will act as the ex-WBC champion’s head coach heading into his trilogy with Tyson Fury.

Wilder told Premier Boxing Champions: “Malik is my true brother. Even before me and Malik fought, we were very close.
“Throughout our careers we have always talked. I always wanted to bring him in because of his genius and his mindset as a fighter.
“He’s a genius in his mind, he knows what to do, but he just didn’t have the athletic body to be able to perform what’s in his head.
“I am the athlete – with instructions and teachings I am able to perform what he thinks and what he strategies.”
Wilder, 35, was beaten by Fury, 32, in February 2020, when his then-assistant coach Mark Breland threw in the towel after seven one-sided rounds.
It unfairly cost Breland his role in the corner, with Scott now leading the charge having already devised a new game plan for their shot at revenge.
He said: “After the loss against Fury, by 3am or 4am, it was somewhere around there.
“We was already in motion and putting the play together on what was going on now.

“He immediately was already planning, ‘Like bro, you’re my head guy now.’
“We knew this from day one that adjustments had to be made and certain things that we wanted to do just have to be put in place.
“It works perfectly, because I believe one of the most imperative things between fighter and training is just not the teaching and learning, the chemistry.
“In this case, with my mentality and my experience, and my boxing brain, mixed with our chemistry, mixed with everything he’s receptive to and learning now – it’s going to be a bad, bad night for Fury come this trilogy.”
Fury initially walked away from his contracted trilogy bout with Wilder to instead hold talks for an undisputed title decider with Anthony Joshua, 31.
His team argued the immediate rematch stipulation expired and allowed him to move on as Wilder took his case to arbitration.

Fury and AJ then agreed a unification on August 14 in Saudi Arabia, until the civil mediator ruled in favour of Wilder.
The American is now set to face the Gypsy King once more, after they signed to fight on July 24.
Wilder and Scott are already training again and have showed off their tactical switch, working on head movement, body shots and combinations.
The pair have been life long friends, and only had a few months away from each other in 2014, when Wilder beat his friend in the first round.
Scott said: “The fight opportunity came up, for that whole three months of preparation, we didn’t talk, nothing like that, and we all know what the result was.
“That didn’t deteriorate our relationship, because business is business. Someone has to lose and someone has to win.”

Scott has been a fixture in Wilder’s team before, either as advisor or sparring partner, but is now the main man in the corner.
Wilder said: “I always wanted to bring him into the team but the position was always occupied and I’m a loyal person.
“Sometimes people dismiss themselves. When you are left with no choice but to get rid of those people.
“Now things are open, it was a no-brainer. Right after [the Fury fight] we started coming up with strategies and plans.
“It wasn’t a hard decision. He has been in all my camps but never wanted to step on anyone’s toes.
“Now he has filled that spot, he is in a different position. I’ve got a great team established.”

Five fights for Logan Paul after Floyd Mayweather including Chris Hemsworth, brother Jake and shock UFC switch

LOGAN PAUL is already thinking about his next fight having shared the ring with all-time great Floyd Mayweather. The YouTuber claimed a moral victory in his Miami exhibition with Mayweather as he survived all eight rounds to take it the distance.
Logan Paul is already thinking about his next fightCredit: AFP
Having faced, and technically avoided defeat, against the one of the best and most lucrative boxers of all time, the question begs what next?
Just days removed from his showcase bout with Mayweather, Paul wrote on Instagram ‘no seriously who’s next’.
And here SunSport runs down the likely options for the social media sensation.
    Jake Paul
Paul has been followed into the ring by his little brother Jake, who has a better record winning all three of his fights by knockout.
The polarising pair appear to have no bounds when it comes to entertainment, leaving them both open to facing each other.
It would be a bizarre, unprecedented and undeniable financial success, all key elements of what makes the internet sensations tick.
But they have admitted their parents are against the idea, and even their close relationship may rule it out.
For now, Jake, 24, fights ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, on August 28 and will no doubt have the support of Logan, 26, when he does.

    Dillon Danis
Danis is a 2-0 Bellator welterweight and a jujitsu expert, but he is most commonly known for being Conor McGregor’s training partner.
The American, 27, has also rivalled the Paul brothers online, mostly with Jake before trading words with Logan.
Jake has admitted he is moving on from the idea of boxing Danis leaving the door open for Logan.
And with Logan fancying a move to MMA, he could even take Danis on in the cage, with Bellator open to the idea.
But Danis is also eyeing a boxing debut, meaning he could meet Logan in the ring as well.

    Chris Hemsworth
Thor star Hemsworth is renowned for his impeccable physique and uses boxing in his training regiment.
And after footage of the actor hitting the pads surfaced in January, Paul called him out.
He tweeted: “I’ll fight him after mayweather.”
Aussie Hemsworth, 37, never responded to the challenge, but the offer could still be open.
Chris Hemsworth was once called out by Logan Paul

    Antonio Brown
Paul was in line to fight the NFL wide receiver in early 2020, with the pair even facing off in a nightclub on Super Bowl weekend.
Sports streaming service DAZN were driving talks, with Paul releasing a diss track and Brown starting training in the gym.
But the fight soon fell apart with Brown returning to the NFL by signing with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A year prior, he was released by New England Patriots as an investigation was launched into allegations of sexual assault made against him.

    KSI
Paul’s boxing career started with a 2018 white collar bout against online rival KSI, which ended in a draw in Manchester.
They turned professional a year later, with little experience, and KSI emerged victorious by scrappy split-decision.
A two point deduction for hitting and holding cost Paul the result on the cards, and still left some dispute around the fight.
KSI, 27, has remained uninterested in a trilogy and instead turned his attention to Jake.
But even that ship appears to have sailed, with the Brit focusing on his music career, with Jake now a far more developed fighter.

    Badou Jack
Jack is a two-weight champion and recorded a win on the undercard of Paul’s exhibition with Mayweather.
Putting the Swedish-born in against the celebrity boxer would be a waste of everyone’s time and reckless.
But it did not stop heavyweight legend Mike Tyson from urging Paul to fight Jack, 37, despite the skill disparity.
Tyson said: “I’m trying to get Logan Paul to fight Badou Jack. I wanna see what he says about that.”
Jack, promoted by Mayweather, saw the funny side of it as he tweeted: “LOL @MikeTyson wants me to fight Logan Paul.”

    UFC switch
Paul was an accomplished high school wrestler and has made it no secret his grappling experience makes a move into the cage more suitable.
He said after fighting Mayweather: “I’d do MMA, for sure, because I am a good grappler. You know, I’m a wrestler at heart.”
UFC president Dana White always maintained he would NEVER do business with either Paul brother.
But for the first time, White appeared to at least be considering whether or not to give Logan a shot in the octagon.
He told TMZ: “Here’s the thing, not to say that I haven’t taken a guy in that’s been 0-0 into the UFC and done those types of fights before. I don’t know.”

Angry Logan Paul denies claims Floyd Mayweather KO’d him and held him up and slams fans for ‘trying to discredit’ him

LOGAN PAUL denied claims Floyd Mayweather knocked him out and held him up as the YouTuber slammed fans for ‘trying to discredit’ him. The YouTube sensation upset the odds by going all eight rounds with Mayweather in their exhibition bout in Miami.

It won the respect of Mayweather himself, who was evidently trying until the final bell to score a knockout.
But fans took to social media to post a moment in the fight where a counter right hand connected clean on Paul.
The social media star then grabbed on to Mayweather in survival mode, with some conspiring he was being kept on his feet to prolong the action.
But Paul furiously denied the accusations and insisted never once was he in any danger of being stopped.
He said on Instagram: “Morning after the fight, not too shabby for fighting the best.
“Yo, I’m seeing this narrative going around that there’s one part of the fight where Floyd punched me and I kind of leaned on him a little bit and it looks like I kinda went limp.
“And people are trying to spin it and say he knocked me out and caught me and kept me up to keep the fight going till the eighth round.
“Shut the f*** up, like just shut the f*** up, like stop trying to discredit what happened last night. Make no mistake, he got a lot of good punches in.

“There’s a couple photos, I got f***ed up on a couple of shots I didn’t know my face could make that shape.
“But never rocked, never blacked out, never obviously got knocked out, he didn’t hold me up, he tried to take me out and he couldn’t it was great.”
Mayweather, 44, was returning to the ring for the first time since 2018, when he beat featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in one round.
He officially hung up the gloves as a professional one year prior, stopping ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds to retire 50-0.
Paul, 26, on the other hand had only TWICE boxed before, both against online rival KSI, 27.
The first was a white collar bout in 2018 which ended a draw, with Paul losing the rematch a year later as they turned pro.

His winless record meant several gave him little chance of hearing the final bell against Mayweather.
But Paul claimed moral victory as he avoided what many saw as a guaranteed KO loss.
Afterwards, Mayweather said: “Great young fighter, strong, tough, he’s better than I thought he was.
“As far as with the big guys, the heavyweights, it’s going to be kind of hard.
“But he’s a tough, rough competitor, it was good action, had fun, I was surprised by him tonight.”

Paul, 26, went the full distance with Mayweather in their exhibition bout on Sunday night.
Although the five-weight world champ bossed the majority of the fight, Paul gave a good account of himself.
So much so that one of the greatest boxers of all time reckons he is ready for his next serious challenge.
Tyson told Zab Judah on an IG Live: “I’m trying to get Logan Paul to fight Badou Jack.
“I wanna see what he says about that.”
Judah agreed Paul vs Jack would make interesting viewing.
He replied: “Yeah, that’s a real fight now.

“That’s a whole different fight. You fight that guy, Badou is gonna give you a fight. Badou coming to fight!”
Paul was fighting for just the third time with his two previous dust-ups against fellow YouTuber KSI – the second as a professional contest.
Jack, however, is a two-weight world champion.
The Swedish veteran, 37, held the WBC super-middleweight crown from 2014 to 2017 and then then WBA light-heavyweight title in 2017.
The Ripper has a 24-3-3 record from his 30 pro fights, including 14 knockout wins – most recently against Dervin Colina last weekend – so would certainly pose an almighty threat to the inexperienced Paul.

Floyd Mayweather breaks down Logan Paul payday with £21m from adverts on shorts and £1m sitting in dressing room

FLOYD MAYWEATHER admitted he robbed the bank once again in his mega-money payday against Logan Paul. Mayweather dubbed his exhibition showcase with the YouTube star as a ‘legalised bank robbery’.

And after the spectacle bout went the full eight rounds, the boxing legend gloated about coming out of retirement for a ‘quick heist’ at the expense of paying fans.
He said: “I’m somewhere in Aruba, in the Bahamas, in Dubai, I’m traveling the world on my jet, making millions every month, not worried about nothing.
“And then when I see there’s a chance for me to do a heist, a quick heist, I’m going to let you all know this.”
Mayweather, 44, revealed in the build up he was guaranteed to make anywhere from $50m (£35m) to $100m (£70m).
And the numbers could still be soaring as Showtime’s pay-per-view app crashed due to the high volume of buyers.
But the cash did not stop flowing with box office and ticket sales.
Mayweather boasted about making $30m (£21m) in sponsorships just on his shorts he wore for the fight.
He said: “My trunks alone, just my trunks alone, 30 million. Just with the patches on my trunks, that’s 30 million alone.

“So, who’s really the smartest one in the sport of boxing?”
Even sitting around in his dressing room before the fight saw Mayweather manage to rake it in.
He revealed: “I’m still the king of the throne. And it’s not king of the throne as far as boxing world, I’m the king of the throne in business.
“Because, for me to come out in eight rounds and I can’t even say what’s the number I made.
“But just now, when I come and sit down, before I even walked out there to the arena, before I even walked out there I made a million dollars.
“Just sitting in the dressing room I made a million dollars. And they say, ‘It’s not all about the money’. Well, your kids can’t eat legacy, they can eat off the currency.
“So I believe in building generational wealth, that’s what’s important to me, generational wealth.”

Ricky Hatton slams Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul as ‘s*** for boxing’ in furious rant about dawn of YouTube fighters

The eight-round exhibition fight went the distance although it was more than likely to keep fans and promoters content.
Mayweather is likely to earn a whopping £70million for participating in the scrap at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
Logan and his brother Jake have been vocal in attempts to scrap big-names – calling out Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Canelo Alvarez and others.
But Hatton, who lost a world title fight with Mayweather in 2007, is far from impressed with the showdown and questioned the integrity of boxing.
Taking to social media, he fumed: “WTF was all this about?
“What happened to the days where fighters would put their lives on the line to try be the best and at least fight the best.
“Now we have fighters calling out YouTubers as that’s where the most money is these days due to the social media world we live in???
“I can live with an exhibition like [what] Mike [Tyson] and Roy [Jones Jr] did between two legends of our sport.
Ricky Hatton has slammed the scrap claiming it’s damaging for boxingCredit: Getty

“But the greatest fighter of all time, who has only recently retired, against somebody who’s only there because of how many followers he has and not because of who he’s previously beat???
“Money is important that’s why we went from the amateurs and turned pro. But these days money seems more important than the legacy.
“Floyd and Logan, hey every man to their own. Good luck to both. My personal opinion that was s*** for boxing. #getupthereboy’.”
Mayweather, who retired with a 50-0 record after his TKO victory over Conor McGregor in 2017, defended his decision to fight Logan.
He said: “They say, ‘It’s not all about the money.’
“Well, your kids can’t eat legacy… The patches on my trunks, [earned me] $30m alone.

But AJ has taken time away from training this week to get behind the grill and cook up a treat in the sunshine.
And the Watford-born boxer already looks to be in superb condition ahead of his next title defence as he smiled and posed for a snap.
One fan commented: “The champ BBQ’ing his opponents.”
Another said: “There’s only one hot thing in this pic and it ain’t the flame.”
While a fellow supporter wrote: “Yeh boi! Grillmaster.”
Negotiations for the Usyk fight began immediately after the collapse of Joshua’s proposed undisputed heavyweight title bout with Fury, which fell through after the WBC champ was ordered to face Deontay Wilder instead in a trilogy match.
A deal looked unlikely but is now on course to be finalised following productive talks between Eddie Hearn and Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk.
The Matchroom Boxing chief told talkSPORT at the weekend: “I actually had a couple of calls with [his promoter] Alex Krassyuk this morning.
