And he did so last November in an eight round exhibition bout with fellow boxing icon Roy Jones Jr.
Tyson, 54, and Jones, 52, boxed to a draw but Iron Mike was adamant he wanted to get back in the ring as soon as possible.
His head coach Rafael Cordeiro, an MMA mastermind, revealed talks and training camp is already underway.
He told MMA Fighting: “We continue training. He’s an athlete and is always training, hitting pads here in the gym.
“I think we’re going to have something in September.
“I don’t know who because his company Legends Only League is working on it and negotiating a TV deal so they can announce a schedule, but we’re training.
    “We’ll be fighting in September.”
Tyson was initially negotiating a remarkable trilogy bout with famous rival Evander Holyfield.

Holyfield, now 58, beat Iron Mike in 1996 but their rematch a year later will forever be remembered as the ‘Bite Fight’ after Tyson sunk his teeth into his rival.
They have since made up and formed a friendship and were in line for a lucrative third fight.
But talks broke down, with Holyfield now returning in August against Kevin McBride, Tyson’s final professional opponent.

Oleksandr Usyk sends bizarre message to Anthony Joshua while skipping with pair set for September showdown in London

OLEKSANDR USYK may need to get back to the drawing board in his attempt to intimidate Anthony Joshua. The Ukrainian sent the British heavyweight champ a bizarre message while stepping up preparations for their September showdown.

Usyk, 34, showed off his power and physique while skipping in the gym.
As the camera panned on AJ’s mandatory challenger, he says: “Hey Anthony, how are you?”
The fighting talk is unlikely to have Joshua quaking in his boots just yet.
His message comes after Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the fight will be signed this week.
And it is likely to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Hearn said: “I can tell you that this week, that this is a more confident footing than the Joshua – Fury negotiations, because I know Alex Krassyuk (Usyk’s promoter) very well, and I know Usyk very well.
“This week that fight will be signed. We’re looking at September in London. Just finalising the details.
“It’s a great fight, a dangerous fight, it’s not the one we necessarily wanted or expected. But it’s a high level heavyweight fight.
Anthony Joshua is likely to fight Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur StadiumCredit: PA

“It’s a unified heavyweight champion against the undisputed cruiserweight champion, and on we go with that fight – it’s a big event.”
Joshua, 31, and Fury, 32, had agreed terms for a unification on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
It came after the Gypsy King walked away from a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder, believing the immediate rematch clause had expired.
Wilder, 35, took his case to arbitration and after months of mediation the judge ruled in his favour.
To avoid another legal battle or paying step aside money, Fury then agreed to a trilogy bout, with the pair signed to fight on July 24 in America.
It left Joshua out in the cold and forced to line up southpaw Usyk, 34, who became his mandatory after stepping up to heavyweight.

Roy Jones Jr predicts Jake Paul can beat Tyron Woodley with early KO and warns ‘I know he can punch’

JAKE PAUL has the capacity to deliver a stunning early knockout to Tyron Woodley, according to Roy Jones Jr.American veteran Jones Jr had the YouTuber fight on the undercard of his comeback bout against Mike Tyson last year, watching Paul confidently down ex-NBA star Nate Robinson.

Since then, the 24-year-old has made light work of former MMA fighter Ben Askren and will face Woodley, 39, in August.
Many expect ex-UFC welterweight world champion Woodley to end Paul’s unbeaten start to his boxing career but Jones Jr has warned otherwise.
He told TMZ: “Early, Jake is gonna be the issue because Jake can probably punch.
“I know he can punch – and he’s probably gonna be a little bit bigger.
“But as the fight goes on, if Woodley gets comfortable, he’s probably gonna take [Jake] out.
“Woodley definitely has the ring experience… he’ll definitely take him out if it goes long.”

Jones Jr is not the first man to doubt Woodley’s chances of winning later this summer.
UFC star Colby Covington recently raised the prospect that his old rival will allow Paul to win.
He remarked to MMA Junkie: “I really think Tyron is going out there to take a dive. I think he’s broke.
“He needs the money… It’s going to be a circus, and we know boxing is the most corrupt sport in the world as it is.

“So this little side circus they’re doing with Jake Paul, of course, they’re going to favour his way to make it a work.”
Paul has already set his sights on fighting an even bigger name after Woodley despite the bout being over two months away.
A number of icons of combat sport, including Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez have been called out by the online sensation.

Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul likened to Kim Kardashian vs Amanda Nunes as Dana White says ‘that’s not f***ing boxing’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER’ exhibition fight against YouTuber Logan Paul has been likened to Kim Kardashian taking on Amanda Nunes. In the early hours of Monday morning the two larger-than-life US celebs boxed eight rounds, going the distance many predicted it wouldn’t.

Mayweather likened the scrap to sparring, while Paul was elated he had just survived against one of the best boxers ever.
But UFC chief Dana White, despite being good friends with Mayweather, was not impressed.
Speaking to UFC Arabia, he said: “That wasn’t a f***ing boxing match. Like I said before, there’s always going to be a market for that kind of stuff.
“There’s always going to be people that are willing to put down $50 to watch that kind of stuff. That’s so far away [from what we do].
“Think about this — imagine if Kim Kardashian wanted to fight Amanda Nunes. How big do you think that fight would be? It would be huge.
“It would be the biggest [event] but give me a f***ing break.”
Nunes is a two-weight UFC champ, while Kardashian is best know for being Kanye West’s estranged wife as well as a reality TV star.
White’s comments follow huge criticism of the ‘fight’ from fans.
The bout was blasted ‘the worst fight of all time’ and ‘battle of the cuddles’ on social media.

Paul’s safety first tactics saw him avoid the KO defeat many predicted, though fans were left fuming.
One said: “I really just watched a 8 round hugging match for 30 mins.”
Another said: “They robbed everyone in the arena and on PPV. Worst fight ever.”
One, posting a video of Mayweather promising a KO, posted: “Battle Of The Cuddles.”
Mayweather, 44, officially hung up the gloves in 2017 after beating ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.
He did return a year on to beat featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a similar exhibition to the one with Paul in Miami.

Eddie Hearn claims Floyd Mayweather ‘looked TERRIBLE’ against Logan Paul and promoter left stunned by empty seats

EDDIE HEARN claimed Floyd Mayweather ‘looked TERRIBLE’ against Logan Paul and was left stunned by the empty seats in Miami. Mayweather was to the surprise of many taken the full eight rounds in his exhibition bout with YouTuber Paul.

And Hearn fears it will have an impact on the younger audience who may not be so well educated on the boxing legend’s unrivalled career and skills.
He told DAZN: “This never felt comfortable for me, the person this looked worse on than anybody – and he probably doesn’t care – is Floyd Mayweather.
“He looked quite terrible. If you’re a young fan, you see Floyd Mayweather last night you go, ‘He was the best ever?
“I know that Logan Paul was hugging around, but I dunno, I always said from the outside it was a bad look for the sport.
“I don’t mind Jake Paul against Tyron Woodley, he’s taking the sport seriously. They’re on a similar level.”
Hearn has dabbled in the world of celebrity boxing after promoting the rematch between Paul and online rival KSI in 2019.
As a result, he was sure not to slam the pay-per-view spectacle but was shocked with the amount of fans who attended.
Hearn explained: “What’s happened to the world? I didn’t stay up to watch, I woke up in the night to check my Twitter.

“I couldn’t believe how few tickets they sold. It’s kind of weird. I’m sure it performed well on pay-per-view but it looked like there was nobody there.
“That was my first thought. I just saw some clips and I’m like, ‘What has happened?’
“It caused some interesting debate. I saw Ricky Hatton say he was quite appalled.
“Being a promoter I’ve learned not to criticise too badly because you never know what you’re going to do in the future.”

Five exhibition fights we all need to see including Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield and Jake Paul vs Canelo Alvarez

FLOYD MAYWEATHER and Logan Paul’s spectacle bout proved there is a market for showcase boxing exhibitions. The demand was so high, Showtime’s app crashed while Mayweather boasted that he could earn up to £70million once all is said and done.

Several argue – led by boxing purists – that these farcical and uncompetitive fights are damaging the sport’s integrity.
But others disagree and instead want to believe celebrities like Logan and Jake Paul can help bring new eyes to the sweet science.
With there being no sign of exhibitions going away, and no real evidence to say it damages professional boxing, here SunSport looks at five in-demand fights.
    Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield
Heavyweight legend Tyson, 54, shocked all last year as he made a comeback 15 years after retiring to face Roy Jones Jr, 52, in an eight round exhibition.
It resulted in a draw, and despite failing to live up to whatever intrigue viewers were expecting the veterans to provide, Iron Mike is set for more.
And he is banking on the novelty of his return not yet wearing off as he called for a trilogy bout with Evander Holyfield, two decades on from their ‘Bite Fight’
Talks have since stalled, with Holyfield, 58, instead fighting Tyson’s last pro opponent Kevin McBride, 48, in August.
But there are still some wishful fans hoping two of their favourite heavyweight will renew their rivalry once more.

    Canelo Alvarez vs Jake Paul
Logan’s little brother caused a storm after calling out boxing’s pound-for-pound No1 as he tweeted ‘you can’t sell PPV’s I would eat you alive’.
His post could be referring to being a bigger box office success than Canelo, rather than fighting him, but still some demanded the Mexican shut the social media sensation up.
The chances of it happening are almost impossible however, as in December Canelo called exhibitions ‘a lack of respect’.
He did at least offer to spar Paul, 24, meaning should he somehow be persuaded, and commissioned, fans could get their wish.
But unlike Mayweather, 44, Canelo, 30, has never appeared interested in lowering his impeccable standards no matter how large the prize.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Georges St-Pierre
De La Hoya, 48, is the latest boxing legend to fancy cashing in on a comeback after signing to a return fight with Triller.
Initially, he was in line to fight MMA icon St-Pierre, until UFC president Dana White blocked the bout.
GSP, 40, is still technically under contract with the UFC despite retiring in 2019, meaning he needed their permission.
St-Pierre’s striking skills and youth factor made for an intriguing matchup against De La Hoya, who has not fought in 13 YEARS.
GSP was left devastated, as he told MMA Fighting: “For me, it would have been a dream come true, because he is my second favourite boxer of all time, behind ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard.”

    Floyd Mayweather vs Jake Paul
Before Mayweather shared the ring with Logan, another money-spinning fight with Jake was already being lined up.
Jake stole the American great’s hat at the pre-fight press conference, adding fuel to the fire.
But after Mayweather failed to KO Logan, 26, he poured cold water on another exhibition.
He said: “As far as me coming back to the sport of boxing, absolutely not. As far as me doing an exhibition again, probably not.”
Despite the admission, should the cheque be correct, ‘Money’ Mayweather could well be tempted back and has a ready-made rivalry with Jake.

Roy Jones Jr vs Anderson Silva
Boxing icon Jones and the MMA great always wanted to box each other but Silva’s contract permitted the fight.
But after the Brazilian was released it sparked hope they could finally meet in the ring.
After drawing with Tyson, Jones revealed Silva was the man he wanted to face next as they held further talks.
But for now, Silva will crossover to the boxing ring, but to fight Julio Cesar Chavez on June 19.
Jones and the ex-UFC champion, 46, are well past their primes, but some fans are still desperate to see them fight once and for all.

Hearn said: “I can tell you that this week, that this is a more confident footing than the Joshua – Fury negotiations, because I know Alex Krassyuk very well, and I know Usyk very well.

Mike Tyson urges Floyd Mayweather to rematch Manny Pacquiao and asks ‘what the f*** is he doing’ fighting Logan Paul

MIKE TYSON urged Floyd Mayweather to rematch Manny Pacquiao and asked ‘what the f*** is he doing’ fighting a much heavier Logan Paul. Mayweather was outweighed by 34lbs before facing YouTuber Paul in a Miami exhibition bout.

And the size proved telling as he was unable to knock out his larger yet inexperienced novice opponent, who survived all eight rounds.
Heavyweight legend Tyson, who made a comeback of his own last year, is keen to see Mayweather fight on, but only in his weight class.
He said on Instagram: “I think Floyd should keep on trying. I don’t think he should fight a f***ing cruiserweight.
“I think he should continue fighting guys his own weight. What the f*** is he doing? Fight Pacquiao again or something, keep in shape.
“Now that I think about it now, he should have had Paul lose a lot of weight. I was surprised.
“A smart fighter would have made him suffer, made him starve. It was harder than Floyd anticipated, I believe.”
Mayweather, 44, admitted after the spectacle bout that he would never fight as a professional again, and poured cold water over another exhibition.
He said:  “As far as me coming back to the sport of boxing, absolutely not. As far as me doing an exhibition again, probably not.”

Tyson, 54, made a return after 15 years out last November, drawing in a similar exhibition with Roy Jones Jr, 52.
And he called for Mayweather to do the same, and predicted he would make more money by facing Pacquiao – who he beat in 2015 – than against someone like Paul.
Tyson explained: “Was he boxing a cruiserweight? How did he train for this? With experience?
“I believe when [Logan] was hitting him, he was hurting him a little bit because he’s not a 160-pound guy. [Logan is] a 190-pounder.
    “I think that’s a heavyweight. 190-pounds to me is a heavyweight.
“I think [Mayweather] can learn from this one, fight guys more in his own category as far as weight is concerned.
“I think he’d make more money if he fought Pacquiao again. Floyd didn’t make the guy chase him.
