Joseph Parker in talks for Derek Chisora rematch and confident he can put Brit ‘into retirement’ after controversial win

JOSEPH PARKER is confident he can send Derek Chisora ‘into retirement’ with the pair in talks for a rematch. Parker, 29, picked himself up from the floor in the opening ten seconds against Chisora, 37, in their heavyweight headliner in May.

But he survived the onslaught to eventually win on points behind closed doors in Manchester.
Chisora was left fuming after the fight, believing he had won, and called for a rematch right away.
And according to Parker’s manager David Higgins, the British veteran could get his wish towards the end of the year.
Higgins told Sky Sports: “There’s talk of Derek Chisora and a rematch.
“If I was Chisora, I’d be planning my retirement after that fight, if it is to happen.
“It’s under negotiation now, so the fight is not confirmed. What I do know is that Chisora has vocally said he wants a rematch with Joseph Parker.
“Joseph is quite happy to fight Chisora again. He knows exactly what he’s dealing with now.
“Chisora had that early first round punch, but Joseph is confident he can make good work of Chisora and put him away into retirement.
“He’s got no problems taking the fight. The discussions have looked at later in the year, October, November.

“I think the UK would be sensible, obviously because they are both household names in the big UK market.”
Chisora, who shared a post-fight burger with Parker after the defeat, raged at the scorecards and accused judges of disliking him.
He said: “I am beyond getting upset now. I train hard, I bring everything and this is the treatment I get from boxing.
“Same as last fight. They don’t like me. I put it all in there and this is the result I get. This is unbelievable.
“Even his coach Andy Lee said I won the fight.”

And Chisora even had the surprise backing of Dillian Whyte, who twice beat his arch rival.
Whyte, 32, said: “Boxing is mad. Derek Chisora got robbed. Chisora is not my favourite person.
“There is not a lot of love between us but he fought his heart out and I felt he won the fight by at least two rounds.
“I think he got robbed and it is very unfair because he left it all on the line.
“He knocked Parker down in the first round, for a 10-8 round, and I think he won five or six more rounds after that. Boxing is f***ed up”.

Tyson Fury’s ‘super-human’ comeback is inspiring Joseph Parker as ex-champ joins training camp for Deontay Wilder fight

TYSON FURY’S ‘super-human’ comeback is inspiring Joseph Parker, who has joined the Gypsy King’s training camp for the Deontay Wilder trilogy fight. Fury last year completed a remarkable career turnaround as he dethroned Wilder of the WBC belt.

It came only two years after he first returned to the ring, having been sidelined since 2015 after a battle with depression and substance abuse.
Fury’s journey, which included shedding TEN STONE, has resonated and motivated even former world champions like Parker.
The New Zealander, who formerly held the WBO belt, is continuing to look up to the Gypsy King, having now linked up with him in Las Vegas.
Parker’s manager David Higgins told Sky Sports: “To come back and become world champion, the way that he did, is one of the most super-human efforts in the history of sport.
“That’s not just a physical thing, it’s a mental thing. It’s utter self-belief and winning attitude.
“The way he got up in that Wilder fight and the way he destroyed Wilder in the next fight, again that goes beyond the physical, it’s the whole package.
“He’s such a positive guy, he’s inspirational, and I know that Joseph greatly appreciates being part of that buzz, and has confirmed that it is inspirational, a great energy to be around.
“He said that everyone pushes each other to go the extra mile, so you’re feeding off each other, pushing harder and further, and Joseph contrasted it to training by himself.

“He said that there’s more energy and you’ll push a bit harder, being in that environment, so he’s only said good things about training with Tyson Fury.”
Fury, 32, sparked a friendship with Parker, 29, after the Kiwi heavyweight beat his cousin Hughie, 26, in 2017.
Their relationship grew stronger after Fury recommended his assistant coach Andy Lee, to Parker, who was searching for a new head trainer.
The Gypsy King has been Stateside training since April under Sugarhill Steward and will do the last leg in Vegas, where he fights Wilder on July 10.

Woodley is confident of knocking out the social media star, but wants to keep hopes of a second fight alive so he doubles his money.
Speaking to UFC legend Michael Bisping, he said: “At the end of the day, he’s gonna get beat up. He’s gonna get knocked out.
“Hopefully, it’s not too bad because what’s happening is, his people are gassing him up that he can win.
“He accepted this fight, and I was very surprised he accepted this fight.
“They’re gassing him up, and they’re giving him that, ‘You’ve got the power, he’s old, he ain’t won a fight a million years, you the younger, more hungry, he’s taking you lightly, you can beat him.’
“They’re lying to this kid, and they’re gonna get him f***ed up.
“So what’s gonna happen is, I’m gonna beat him, I’m gonna knock him out, and hopefully it’s not too bad where he doesn’t want to do it again because I want to take the money again.
“I want to rob the bank twice. So that’s the plan. I really don’t have smoke with his brother Logan but s***, after he sees what I do to his brother, he might want to get the hands too.”

Woodley, 39, in a former UFC champion who reigned the welterweight division from 2016-2018.
But more recently, he is without a win in three years, losing his last four before departing the UFC.
Paul, 24, on the other hand is 3-0 in his boxing career, all by KO, but has so far fought only limited opposition.
He beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ on his pro debut, ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and then retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36.
Paul – whose brother Logan took Floyd Mayweather the distance in an exhibition – has promised a second-round KO.
But Woodley is giving his opponent an extra round in his prediction, believing Paul will cover up in the opening stages.
He said: “I think three (rounds).
“First round sounds cocky, sounds dope, but I just know that if I’m fighting Tyron Woodley, everyone is going to tell him to cover up, weather the storm, clinch him, grab him, keep him away from you, stay at distance, watch out for the right hand.
“I’ve got to set a couple traps, so I may need a round or two to set some traps, see what he responds to, and I think third round I should be able to clean up the deal.”

Afterwards, the Brazilian icon opened the door to fighting either of the Paul brothers, who are both forging prizefighting careers.
But Jake, 24, appeared to suggest Logan, 26, is the more likely of the two, but did not rule out eventually sharing the ring with Silva, 46.
He told TMZ Sports: “Look, anything is possible, I didn’t initially think of that but hey, like I said my saying is anyone, anytime, any place.
“But I think it would be more interesting to see Anderson Silva fight Roy Jones Jr on my undercard which is what I like originally tweeted out there.
“Because he beat one legendary boxer lets see if he can beat another legendary boxer and maybe there’s a fight for us down the road.
“I think there’s talks of him maybe fighting my brother, but Anderson’s a nice guy and I respect him as a legend.”
Logan is looking for his next opponent, having recently taken Floyd Mayweather, 44, the distance in their exhibition.
He avoided a knockout defeat, to the surprise of many, and later talked up the possibility of fighting heavyweight great Mike Tyson, 54.

For Jake, he fights ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, in his fourth and toughest fight to date on August 28.
Woodley reigned the welterweight division from 2016-2018 with devastating power and four title defences.
But he comes into his boxing debut off the back of four defeats, without a win in three years.
Despite the form, Paul argues Silva’s points win over son of a legend Chavez Jr, 35, proves MMA fighters can belong in the boxing ring.

“He was sticking, moving, bouncing around the ring, having fun, throwing combos, he’s long and lanky.
“And to come in there and beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, whose what over 50 wins in the ring as a world champion.
“This just goes to show MMA strikers are also great boxers and I think a lot of people forget that.

Oscar De La Hoya targets UFC legend Anderson Silva in his second comeback fight after return against Vitor Belfort

And De La Hoya already has plans following the eight-round exhibition after calling out another MMA icon in Silva.
The Brazilian, who ruled the UFC’s middleweight division for seven years, just beat ex-boxing title holder Julio Cesar Chavez.
And now De La Hoya, 48, wants to prize Silva, 46, back into the boxing ring in November, before going after a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, 44.
He told Lance Pugmire: “I want to make the biggest comeback in the history of the sport.
“I want to have these two fights, I mean if I get past Belfort, which I’m a little, like not scared, but just like, ‘What did I get myself into?’
“But I’m sure, I got confidence to go in there and fight hard. And then, go again in November.
“As November 28, I believe someone said is the one-year anniversary of Triller getting into the picture with Mike Tyson, so I want to be that one-year anniversary.
“And then maybe challenge Anderson Silva, and then after that if my boxing feels good and I feel great, I’m not going to take time off, I’m going to continue training and call out Floyd Mayweather Jr.”

Mayweather famously beat De La Hoya in 2007, but it was the only fight he ever received a split decision in.
More recently, the 50-0 all-time great officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.
But he did come back to the ring early in June for an exhibition spectacle against YouTuber Logan Paul, 26, who weighed TWO STONE more.
Paul claimed moral victory by going the distance and avoiding a knockout defeat and Mayweather afterwards poured cold water on another exhibition.
But De La Hoya is confident the man who goes by the name ‘Money’ can be tempted back between the ropes.
He said: “I think it’s all about money for him, so why not? I think there’s a lot of money for him to make in that fight. I think so, why not?”
De La Hoya added: “I beat him the first time, let’s put it that way. So that’s his motivation.”

Tyson Fury’s training partner explains why WBC champion beats ‘stiff’ Anthony Joshua EASIER than Deontay Wilder

TYSON FURY has an EASIER time beating Anthony Joshua than he does against Deontay Wilder, according to his training partner. Gypsy King Fury looked all-but confirmed for a first-ever four-belt undisputed title decider with AJ on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.

But having attempted to walk away from his contracted trilogy fight with Wilder, a US arbitrator ruled in favour of the beaten American.
With the pair signed to fight on July 24 in Las Vegas, Fury was forced to switch his focus away from Joshua to Wilder as he started camp Stateside.
But according to light-heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali, the WBC champion never flinched throughout the process of switching opponents.
Elbiali, 30, told SunSport: “I don’t think it matters who it is and subconsciously, Tyson understands that Joshua is kinda stiff and he already has Wilder’s mojo in his pocket. His heart and his mojo.
“With Joshua, he’s a very talented fighter but for the movement that Tyson possesses and the strength and the size, I think it’s even more difficult for Joshua to beat him than even Wilder.
“Wilder, those first two fights he did have that one-punch knockout power, I don’t believe Joshua has that and I believe Joshua always needs to set his feet to punch.
“With a guy like Tyson, I don’t even see him moving around him, I just think he’d bulldoze Joshua.
“I think he’d have a very similar approach against Joshua and Wilder, I just see him saying to both, ‘I’m going to run you the f*** over’.”

Fury, 32, was reduced to a draw in his first fight with Wilder, 35, in 2018, with two knockdowns deciding the result.
But in the rematch two years later, he brilliantly switched tactics to box on the front foot and bemuse the Bronze Bomber, who was floored twice himself.
As Fury climbed to the top of the division again – five years after he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko – Wilder suffered defeat for the first time.
And it proved hard to take for the 2008 Olympian, who listed a litany of excuses for the setback, made without evidence.
Among those were his water being SPIKED and Fury fighting with WEIGHTS in his gloves.
That is despite a member of his own team, along with a Nevada State Athletic Commission, overseeing the wrapping of hands and glove fitting.

Wilder previously maintained he is dealing with a ‘known cheater’ – but Vegas resident Elbiali was quick to debunk the accusations.
He explained: “We’re so commissioned here in the US, the commission is so up our ass before a fight.
“I cannot see why the Nevada State would be any different before one of the biggest heavyweights fights.
“Also, Tyson’s not from America, he’s not going to get away with things, he came here and fought in front of American judges and commission.
“It’s absolutely f***ing bulls*** in the funniest way. I don’t even think it was a thought in anyone’s mind.”
