Manny Pacquiao hits back at Floyd Mayweather by saying he is fighting the best and not ‘non-boxers just to get paid’

MANNY PACQUIAO hit back at Floyd Mayweather by saying he is fighting the best and not ‘non-boxers just to get paid’. Mayweather returned to the ring at the start of June for an exhibition bout with YouTuber Logan Paul.

Beforehand, he took aim at Pacquiao, who he beat in 2015, with the Filipino legend showing no signs of slowing down aged 42.
Mayweather, 44, said: “When I come and do an exhibition or come out and box and have some fun, I do it because I want to do it, not because I have to do it.
“Whereas Pacquiao at his age, it’s sad that he has to fight. I’m financially set and I want to let everybody know this.”
Pacquiao is set to fight unbeaten unified WBC and IBF champion Errol Spence Jr, 30, on August 21.
The legendary eight-division ruler took the chance to take a response swipe at Mayweather, who was taken the distance by Paul, 26, in Miami.
Pacquiao said on on the Power & Play show: “I’m not like some other guys who are in it just for the money.
“Some other fighters challenge non-boxers just to get paid. I want to fight. I want to challenge the best.
“If I’m fighting for the money, then I would have picked some scrub to fight.

“Why would I try to fight an undefeated fighter if I’m chasing the paycheck? This is a real fight. I fight because this is my passion.
“I love beating undefeated fighters and bringing honour to my country.”
PacMan has not fought since July 2019 when he beat Keith Thurman, 32, to win the WBA belt.
He has since been stripped of the title due to inactivity, but ended 2019 with earnings of close to £18.8m, adding to his estimated £165m net worth.
Mayweather officially retired in 2017 as a professional after beating UFC star Conor McGregor, 32, in ten rounds.
He topped Forbes rich list of the decade two years ago with £706m earned.

Mayweather and Pacquiao sold a record 4.6m pay-per-views, which still stands as the most lucrative fight of all time.
PacMan, who claimed he fought with a torn rotator cuff, has lobbied for a rematch since the convincing points loss.
But Mayweather has denied any prospect of another fight with his long-time rival and recently ruled out ever lacing up the gloves again.
After his PPV spectacle with Paul, he admitted: “As far as me coming back in the sport of boxing, absolutely not.
“As far as me doing an exhibition again probably not.”

Afterwards, American Hunt, who is 6-1 in BKFC and 3-5 in MMA, got in the ring to confront the newly crowned champion.
But Lombard furiously reacted with a two-punch combination before security and his own opponent Riggs pulled them apart.
The Cuban, 43, is now 3-0 in bare-knuckle, having last fought in MMA in 2018.
He left the UFC after six straight losses, but was rival Bellator’s inaugural middleweight champ.

And, when he found it tough to get inside the guard of his towering opponent, Money Man earned his cut by telling him he was down on the cards and needed to hunt down a trademark KO.
The heavy-handed banger, with the softest voice, whispered: “I just had to catch him.
“He was tough and it was tough getting to him because he was tall and had a longer reach but as soon as I got to him I got the job done.
“I was definitely having fun in there, I was nervous the whole night because I did not know if I would hurt him because he is two weight classes heavier.
“Floyd was telling me to press him but I did not want to get caught.
“Floyd told me I was down on the unofficial scorecards around round seven or eight so I had to pick it up and show my greatness.”
After dropping Barrios twice in the eighth and getting the job done in the 11th, the undefeated Mayweather protege has now won 24 of his 25 fights inside the distance
And, with the boxing legend in his corner, Davis can lay claim to being the most exciting fighter on the planet with his highlight reel growing again.

Last time out the Baltimore bad boy destroyed three-weight champ Leo Santa Cruz with an uppercut that won KO of the Year.
This performance, in the 10st division Scotland’s Josh Taylor rules as undisputed champ, was more of a sustained and technical cracking of a very tough nut.
Team Davis has insisted their superstar charge will not continue up at 140lbs and was just having fun testing the water at the new division.
But fight fans will now dream of lightweight clashes against undisputed champ Teofimo Lopez or high-profile challengers like Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.
And Mayweather believes his star student has the promise and power to be one of the finest stars in the history of the sport.
He said: “He has the potential to be one of the greatest ever.
“When I first met ‘Tank’ when he was 14 or 15 years old, I told him I’d make him a world champion.
“And that you’ll be one of the best someday. I’m proud of him.”

Watch Vasiliy Lomachenko KO Masayoshi Nakatani in comeback fight before calling for Teofimo Lopez rematch

VASILIY LOMACHENKO sent Teofimo Lopez a bloody terrifying warning by calling for their rematch after knocking Masayoshi Nakatani out.Lopez completed his takeover of the lightweight division when he dominated Loma over 12 October rounds, to be crowned undisputed king of the 9st 9lbs class.

The 33-year-old Ukraine king blamed that poor performance completely on a recurring shoulder injury and went under the knife again.
But he ruthlessly picked an old Lopez foe to cut down for his comeback, demolishing the giant Japan fighter in round nine and dramatically overshadowing the 2019 points Lopez managed against him.
Despite suffering a deep gash to his forehead from a first-round head clash, little Loma hacked the towering Asian star down to size, floored him in round five and then finished him.
Then the two-time Olympic champion purred: “I’m happy because I won.
“All the strategies that we developed with my team worked. I reached all my goals. I won and now I’m back on track.
“Everybody saw how I won this fight, and everybody is waiting for the rematch with Lopez, so let’s make a rematch.”
Lopez, 23, just pulled out of his first mandatory defence of his four titles with George Kambosos after testing positive for Covid-19.
But instead of sending a get-well message to his nemesis, Loma sent a handful of dates he fancies exacting revenge on the man who robbed him of his professional dream.

“He has a fight in the future with Kambosos,” Loma grinned in Las Vegas.
“But how about after, at the beginning of next year. December, January, February, I am waiting.
“I’m happy about this if they are ready to give me a rematch after all I’ve done, after this fight. I am happy about this opportunity.”
The 5ft 7in southpaw looked back to his elusive and bullying best against the 6ft banger.
There were no signs of the injury to his right shoulder ruining his scalpel-like jab again and he kicked off the bout with a couple of brutal left hands.
But the accidental butt, two minutes in, threatened to throw all of Lomachenko’s plans off course as the blood ran relentlessly into his eyes.

But cut man Russ Anber did expert work on the wound, leaving Loma’s dad to deliver the pep talks.
And the dream team brought an end to his eight-month nightmare as Lomachenko put on a clinic on how to outbox a much bigger man.
Nakatani was big and brave but a selection of thudding and rasping left hands robbed him of his gangly legs in round nine and the referee stopped the slaughter.
And promoter Bob Arum, who makes the fights for Loma and Lopez, said his former star attraction is ready to snatch back all of the limelight.
The Top Rank mogul said: “In case there was any doubt, Lomachenko proved he is still one of the very best fighters in the world.
“He is healthy and ready to fight any of the lightweights.”

Fan favourite Fury ended Wilder’s reign as WBC king last February via seventh-round TKO, and resurgent super-middleweight Rosado expects The Gypsy King to get the job done even more emphatically third time around.
When asked for his prediction for the trilogy fight, Rosado told DAZN: “I like Wilder, but I think Fury got his number.
“You know, I think he’s in his head. You know, and I think it’d be another devastating knockout, man. You know, I think he could stop Wilder again.
“I think Wilder’s going into the fight with the wrong energy, I’m saying he was quiet at the press conference.
“I think he just needs to focus on if he really wants to get this win.
“Stop coming up with all these speculations. If you think this happened, and this happened, and this happened, and it’s like, you know, it’s kind of it’s kind of crazy”

Fury, 32, is brimming with confidence ahead of his third meeting with The Bronze Bomber, who he’s vowed to run through like an ’18-wheeler’.
The Wythenshawe warrior said: “I gave my game plan away the first time because he wasn’t good enough to do anything about it.
“And I’ll do the same thing this time because he’s not good enough to do anything about it.
“Deontay Wilder is a one-trick pony. He’s got one-punch power, we all know that – great.
“But what I’m going to do to Deontay Wilder this time is I’m going to run him over as if I’m an 18-wheeler and he’s a human being.
“I guarantee he does not go past where he did before [the seventh round].

“Because before, I only had five or six weeks practicing what I’m going to do to him.
“This time, I’ve had 18 months of practicing what I’m going to do to him.
“So I anticipate it’s going to be like an 18-wheeler running over somebody, and that’s what you’re gonna see.
“I’m building my weight up, trying to get up to 300lbs for this fight. Because I’m looking for a big knockout straight away.”

Wilder, 35, is hellbent on avenging his first professional loss, saying: “I am going to do more than punish him.
“I am going to do the most brutal thing you can come up with in your mind.
“I hate him now, I think nothing of him, there is bad blood and it will always be there.
“Hate is a motivation to destroy, that’s what the devil does every day.
“I have never felt this way about any opponent before.
“Dominic Breazeale was the last one I disliked most.”

Poirier knocked out the Irishman in January, almost seven years after initially being beaten, setting up for a blockbuster trilogy bout.
With it all to play for next month, the ex-UFC interim champion has left no stone unturned in his Florida base at American Top Team.
He has also been putting in the work with strength and conditioning coach Phil Daru, who helps work on agility and speed.
Daru uploaded videos of Poirier working with a resistance band between his legs, footwork drills and power-based training with a medicine ball.
Poirier’s head coach is former MMA fighter Mike Brown, but ex-boxer Dyah Davis acts as boxing trainer.
Footage online showed the lightweight contender working on his punch combinations and southpaw footwork.
Poirier knocked out McGregor in round two of Fight Island but only after targeting his legs with brutal kicks.
Davis warned to expect a similar game plan in the trilogy – this time with a third-round finish.

He told MMA Junkie: “I take this approach as if a lumberjack, we’re in a forest.
“The idea is to chop the tree down from the bottom and that’s exactly what we did. It’s a fight.
“So we look for any weaknesses that we could take advantage of and that was one of them.
“So we capitalised and we moved on from there and ended up finishing him with strikes.”
Davis added: “I think it’ll play out similar to the second fight, maybe a little bit longer. I see us executing and getting a KO victory in the third round.”

Watch Pierce O’Leary’s KO of the year contender as he leaves Jan Marsalek face planted on canvas with huge left hand

Pierce O’Leary’s huge left hand left Jan Marsalek out cold

O’Leary was controlling the action behind his jab and just before the KO landed a nice body shot.
After a right hand missed the target, Marsalek tried to return fire with a rear cross of his own.
But in classic boxing 101 style, it was O’Leary who made his man miss and pay as he countered with a perfect left hook.
Czech Republic’s Marsalek, 33, was left face first on the floor as the referee rightfully waved off the fight immediately.
Despite the highlight-reel KO, O’Leary gave a humble post-fight interview as he gave his well-wishes to his opponent.
He said: “First and foremost I just want to make sure I wish him a speedy recovery, make sure he’s OK and gets home to his family.
“Because at the end of the day, boxing’s not a sport it’s – I don’t know what to say it is – but it’s a tough sport anyways.
“But yeah, it was one of the best shots of the night probably and probably the best shot of my career so far.”

Newly crowned IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards, commentating for MTK, was full of praise after the perfectly placed hook.
Edwards, 25, said: “He was relaxed whilst really asserting his dominance straight away.
“He was landing nice clean shots and he was rolling his shoulders well.
“I really liked the way he was managing the distance, the space between him and his opponent.
“But I think he knew and he was waiting for the shot to come and he had the confidence in his punch power and he got him out of there in brutally devastating fashion.
“Shots that after the fact I don’t really like watching too many times again if I’m perfectly honest, but greats performance and he moves on.”

Brit who found out long lost dad was legendary boxing commentator Bob Sheridan worth £200million desperate to meet him

A BRIT who discovered his dad is US boxing legend Bob “The Colonel” says he’s not bothered about his £200million estate – he just wants to meet him.Simon Edwards, 41, received the remarkable news during a visit to extended family in Ireland, who told him his father was none other than “the Colonel”.

The Hitchen Town FC steward speaks to his dad every day and had been planning to meet at his Las Vegas home before Covid hit.
“I want to meet him, I don’t care about the money or showbiz lifestyle,” a desperate Simon told The Mirror.
“I don’t really want to think about the cash because once I inherit it that means I’ve lost my dad.
“People are talking about the money like my dad is already dead, it’s a bit sickening.”
Simon was the result of a fling between Bob and Irish hotel manager Rosemary Ruane, who died when her son was five.
She never told Bob about the pregnancy and the sporting legend left Galway before ever meeting his only son.
The father of two – who now refers to himself as Colonel Jnr – told how he contacted Bob via an agency the day the childless widower laid his wife to rest.
And Bob, famous for commentating on Muhammed Ali’s 1974 Rumble in the Jungle fight with George Foreman, in Zaire, knew instantly he was his son.
Since discovering his famous dad, stunned Simon has had messages of support from superstars Angelia Jolie and J-Lo.

He told SunSport: “I always dreamed of being reunited with my long lost father.
“As a boxing fan I knew exactly who he was, so it was fair to say it came as a pretty big shock. It’s just been so wonderful getting to know him.
“To other people it must seem amazing that this famous person is my dad, but for me it’s amazing to just know who my dad is and be in touch with him
“I’d probably still be as blown-away if he was a plumber from down the road.
Curious Simon tracked down his extended family to Galway and visited them in 2019.
He was told the unmarried hotel manager was one of nine daughters from the same Catholic family and had travelled to London to give birth after falling pregnant.
Simon was born in Newham, London, in 1980 and put up for adoption through the Catholic Children’s Society.
He was placed with retired British Aerospace scientist Mike Edwards and former healthcare worker Sue, who he still considers to be ‘his real parents’.
His adopted parents are “over the moon” and support Simon meeting up with his biological dad.
Bob, on the other hand, told about Simon half an hour after burying his wife.
He told SunSport: “I had just buried my wife.
“I was besides myself when the chaplain from my military regiment said to be ‘I know you feel cheated by the Lord, but remember he only gave his own son 33 years on this Earth.
“I got home and had a Guinness and I really felt like I had nothing left in my life.
“Then I got a call from an agency saying, ‘You have a 41-year-old son – and I said ‘are you sure?’
“They said all you have to do is see him once and you’ll know he’s your son. He looks just like you, he’s a great athlete like you.
“I was thinking, an hour ago I had nothing to live for – now I have a son.”
Bob contacted a friend at a government agency and asked them to confirm is Simon was really his son.
When the agency confirmed Simon was his child, Bob emailed him and asked to speak over the phone.
The 77-year-old has no children and is happy someone can finally inherent his £200million estate.
He is planning to visit London later this year to meet Simon, where they’ll then travel to Ireland and meet with heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
They also plan to visit Rosemary’s grave.
Simon is already planning what to do with his newfound wealth, including opening a strip club in Hitchin.
He said: “I’m going to set two daughters up nicely and I’ll also sort out some friends and family.
“Hitchin is my hometown so I’ll be pumping money into the football team – where I’m a steward – and the cricket club.”
“I thought I’d love to have a sports bar with the football on and a horse racing bar.
“I also thought I’d open a gentleman’s club so people can go watch the football and horse racing during the day and then go for a lap dance”.
The two are now building a relationship.
“I said ‘can you get me hot chicks in Vegas’ and he said ‘I’ll get you the hottest birds you want’,” Simon said.
“I’m a party animal. People are saying ‘are you ready for Las Vegas?’ but the question is, is Las Vegas ready for Colonel Junior?”

Bob added: “He’s a ladies’ man like I used to be when I was single.

“He can live with me in my mansion when he comes here. I’ve got a cook and a maid living on my property.” More
