Conor McGregor tells Floyd Mayweather ‘we can go again’ in rematch as UFC star reveals ‘for sure I will box again’

CONOR McGREGOR told Floyd Mayweather ‘we can go again’ in a rematch as he revealed: ‘For sure I will box again’. The former two-weight UFC champion made his boxing debut in 2017 to Mayweather, losing in round ten.

He was then in talks to fight Manny Pacquiao, 42, before making his UFC comeback in January with a rematch against Dustin Poirier, 32, who he beat in 2014.
But after Poirier knocked the Irishman out, his return to the boxing ring was shelved.
McGregor, 32, admitted to putting too much emphasis on boxing before the defeat, as he faces Poirier in a trilogy decider on Saturday.
Ahead of the UFC 264 headliner, he has vowed to focus solely on MMA, but did not close the door on another venture into the ring.
McGregor told ESPN’s Stephen A Smith: “For sure I’ll box again.
“Like I’m back on the sites, the boxing is not even on the radar at the minute. But I will do of course.”
Mayweather, 44, officially retired after beating McGregor, in a lucrative fight which grossed close to £600MILLION.
But the UFC legend insisted he was the draw behind the crossover bout and his rival should be the grateful one.

McGregor explained: “Stephen, Floyd didn’t make me anything. I was on the Forbes list before Floyd. I brought Floyd out the gutter with it.
“Because Floyd had the Andre Berto fight before that and it was like 300,000 buys.
“It was me that made Floyd.”
Mayweather has returned twice since his win against McGregor, but both in exhibition bouts.
The first was with featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan, which ended in round one.
BETTING SPECIAL – Get McGregor to win by knockout, TKO or DQ at 40/1

But more recently he gave away TWO STONE against YouTuber Logan Paul, 26, which went the full eight round distance.
McGregor blasted Mayweather for the bizarre fight, which ended without a winner as there was no knockout scored, and opened the door to a rematch.
He said: “I have no problem with Floyd, it wasn’t a good look for him to face against that man (Logan Paul) in his last one.
“It didn’t feel right, even he didn’t feel right, you could see it in him. We can go again if he wants.
“I feel that’s going to happen at some stage down the line.”

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury targeted for ‘January or February’ says Hearn after delay to Gypsy King’s clash with Wilder

ANTHONY JOSHUA’s long-awaited showdown with fellow Brit Tyson Fury could now take place in ‘late January or February’.The pair were due to face off in a blockbuster showdown in Saudi Arabia next month before Fury was ordered to have a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder.

The hope was to stage the Battle of Britain in the winter after The Gypsy King’s trilogy fight with Wilder on July 24, which has been delayed following an outbreak of Covid-19 in the WBC champ’s camp.
Fury vs Wilder III is now expected to take place in October, a delay that has ended promoter Eddie Hearn’s hopes of an end-of-year unification bout.
The Matchroom Boxing chief told iFL TV: “I think that was pretty much the case anyway.
“But fighting September 25, it’s very difficult to do a fight in December.
” And a lot of our conversations now about the undisputed fight are end of Jan, February.
“So it probably helps. Fury might’ve wanted to do another fight in November or December.
“And then the whole thing is, like, never-ending.”
BETTING SPECIAL – Get McGregor to win by knockout, TKO or DQ at 40/1

A new date for Fury vs Wilder III has yet to be finalised, and Hearn has serious doubts about the pair’s third encounter going ahead.
He added: “I don’t even know if it’ll happen in October, to be honest with you. Who knows?
“But at least if this fight does happen and AJ beats [Oleksandr] Usyk successfully, then we’ve bought fought around the same time and then we can try and make the undisputed fight.
“But as I’ve said to you, I don’t trust anything that’s said.
Tyson Fury was one of his ten team members to test positive for CovidCredit: AFP

“So even the undisputed fight right now, yeah, we can stress how much we’ve always wanted to do it and we’re ready to make the deal at any time.”
At this moment in time, Hearn and Joshua are both focused on September’s showdown with former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk.
Hearn said: “All the focus is on now is the next fight for Anthony Joshua, being successful in that fight and moving forward with his career.”
Joshua, 31, will defend his unified heavyweight titles against Ukraine’s Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 25.
AJ is currently training for his clash with his fellow Olympian in Marbella, but SunSport understands he’ll soon return to the UK to complete his camp at the Olympic training facility in Sheffield.

Paul, 3-0 as a boxer all by knockout, claimed to have a $50million fight offer waiting for the Irishman at the start of the year.
But he rescinded that after McGregor was knocked out by Dustin Poirier in January.
Poirier, who avenged his 2014 defeat, is now set for a trilogy decider with the southpaw star at UFC 264 tonight.
And ahead of the immediate rematch, Paul slammed McGregor for his press conference antics and promised to put the nail in the coffin if they fought.

“He takes offense to everything now. He’s bathing in his own insecurity’s.
“When we fight I will further expose him for the fraud he is.”
Paul has burst onto the boxing scene since his professional debut in 2020, when he beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’.

But he only has wins over YouTuber Gib, ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, a renowned grappler.
Paul, 24, does face the biggest challenge of his career in August, when he fights former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39.
McGregor, 32, meanwhile lost his boxing debut in 2017 against Floyd Mayweather, 44, and has promised to return to the ring.
He was in talks with Manny Pacquiao, 42, before losing to Poirier, 32, but it was shelved after the shock KO defeat.
McGregor now eyes a run back at the UFC title and wants lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, 31, if he wins his return in Las Vegas.
But he did not rule out a potential fight against Paul or his older brother Logan, 26, who recently took Mayweather the distance in an exhibition.
McGregor told News.com.au: “I couldn’t care about them two dingbats. I don’t see so, but never say never.
“If they’re gonna keep competing, who knows? But, dingbats, the two of them.”

Deontay Wilder hits out at Tyson Fury for postponed trilogy and says ‘he did wrong and I’m the one being penalised’

That was until Fury and members of his team tested positive for coronavirus, pushing the trilogy bout back to October.
Wilder, 35, had to wait over a year to get his shot at the Gypsy King, 32, due to an arbitration hearing and has been left fuming with yet another setback.
And according to his co-manager Shelly Finkel, the American former champion was quick to blast the Gypsy King when reacting to the news.
Per the The Athletic and according to Finkel, Wilder said: “Again now, he did wrong and I’m the one being penalised.”
The pair first drew in 2018 before Fury won the rematch two years later in a fight which included a trilogy bout in the contract.
But the Brit attempted to walk away from it to instead fight Anthony Joshua, 31, in an undisputed title decider.
Wilder took the dispute to arbitration and was awarded the right to face Fury once again.
But he will now have to wait even longer for his crack at redemption after ten members of Fury’s camp were said to have tested positive for Covid-19.
Finkel added: “They didn’t do what they said they had and what they should have done as professional athletes.

With Manny Pacquiao, 42, fighting Errol Spence, 31, in August and Anthony Joshua, 31, against Oleksandr Usyk, 34, in September, promoters are looking to stage the trilogy on October 9.
They also hope to keep the fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
