Oleksandr Usyk’s scary record of fighting on enemy territory as he prepares for Anthony Joshua clash at Spurs

ANTHONY JOSHUA faces the incredibly daunting task of trying to beat Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 25.And the challenge becomes even harder for the Brit when you look at the Ukranian’s sublime record in major bouts on the road.
Usyk has not lost in his professional careerCredit: GettyUsyk’s major fights on the roadUsyk’s major fights outside of Ukraine:

Krzysztof Glowacki in Poland – WON
Michael Hunter in America – WON
Marco Huck in Germany – WON
Mairis Briedis in Latvia – WON
Murat Gassiev in Russia – WON
Tony Bellew in the UK – WON
Dereck Chisora in the UK – WON
Anthony Joshua in the UK – TBC

Usyk travelled to Poland to win the WBO cruiserweight title against Krzysztof Glowacki, before defending the belt against American Michael Hunter in Maryland.
Another defence against Marco Huck in Germany followed and he then raised the stakes by unifying in Latvia with a win over Mairis Briedis.
After just 14 professional fights, the Olympic gold medallist then became undisputed cruiserweight champion with a victory over Murat Gassiev in Moscow.
His final fight before moving up to heavyweight came against Britain’s Tony Bellew in 2018 when he knocked the Liverpudlian out at The 02 Arena.
Then in his first big heavyweight clash last year, Usyk beat Derek Chisora on points to retain his status as WBO mandatory challenger to Joshua’s strap.
Now AJ will hope to do what no man has managed to do against Usyk and defend his belt in his own back yard.
But the unified champ is not worried about what the 18-0 former undisputed cruiserweight king brings to the table.
He told Sky Sports: “None. I fear none of them. He don’t bring me nothing I ain’t seen before.

“He’s a good fighter, I’m challenging myself in training. So yeah, let’s get it on.”
Meanwhile, Usyk sent a chilling message to Joshua after the fight was confirmed on Tuesday.
Alongside a photo of him holding the signed contract, he simply added: “I’m coming for you!”
But Joshua has remained supremely confident throughout the negotiations and appeared totally assured when the bout was announced.
“September 25, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I put it all on the line again and it’s time to defend my crown,” he said.
“We are two Olympic gold medallists who have fought our way to the top and never avoided challenges.
“The stadium is exceptional, the atmosphere will be electric, I’m honoured to be the first person to fight in such an awe inspiring venue.
“The stage is set and I am ready to handle business.”

With British boxing still reeling from AJ vs Tyson Fury collapsing, the WBA, IBF and WBO king has managed to lift the spirits with a mandatory defence against the Ukraine icon.
Now the British boxer’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed he is reaching out to try and get the musician to perform his hit single ‘Sweet Caroline’ to the live crowd in attendance.
And if he cannot get him to sing live in North London he will try to get the American to provide a rendition in Joshua’s fight camp instead, according to IFL TV.
The much-loved anthem is a big part of boxing events in this country.
It was also adopted by England supporters over the past month at Euro 2020.
Joshua was already a huge fan of the tune, explaining last year: “It doesn’t matter where you go or what country you fight in, from London to Saudi Arabia, Sweet Caroline is one of the most recognised boxing anthems.
“It has really grown with the sport and is a large part of it.”
AJ even asked a New York restaurant to play the track during a surprise birthday celebration for his publicist Andy Bell last year.

That comes with British boxing still reeling from the much-anticipated unification showdown between Joshua and Fury collapsing.
However, the WBA, IBF and WBO title holder is remaining positive after his fight with the Ukrainian was formally announced.
Joshua told Sky Sports: “The most important fight for me is the next one but you have to have a vision of where you want to get to.
“I have to stay consistent and stay ready. Once I fight Usyk, who knows what will happen next?
“Will I fight Fury, Wilder, Dillian Whyte, Andy Ruiz, Luis Ortiz? Who knows.
“I have to stay on track and ready for each fight, but have a long-term plan.
“It’s about the belts, not the person. I don’t mind who it is. I want to fight for legacy.”
    ‘JUST AS GOOD’
Joshua is returning to the ring for the first time since he knocked out Kubrat Pulev in round nine back in December.
AJ, 31, won Olympic super-heavyweight gold at London 2012 the day after Usyk, now 34, won the same medal in the heavyweight division.
Usyk went on to rule the 14st 4lbs cruiserweight division as undisputed champion and has now enjoyed two warm-up fights in the blue-riband ranks.
Now the WBO has ordered 24-1 AJ to face the undefeated southpaw – and the Englishman is adamant he possesses just as many skills as Fury.
“I’ve got another challenger who’s good, just as good. I have to be serious about him now.

Art graduate Joe Joyce paints ‘pivotal point in career’ when he punched Daniel Dubois into quitting

JOE JOYCE has turned his Putney pad into a house of pain-t to celebrate his iconic win over Daniel Dubois.Despite his 2016 Olympic silver — that should have been a gold — the Juggernaut was the underdog going into the November battle against one of boxing’s hottest prospects.

But the 12-0 heavyweight ace dissected the young banger with a piston-like jab before Dubois had to surrender with a fractured cheekbone in round ten.
And, ahead of Saturday’s clash with Frenchman Carlos Takam at the SSE Arena, Wembley, the 35-year-old fine art graduate from Middlesex University said: “Someone suggested I paint something to do with boxing.
“I picked the Dubois fight as it feels like a pivotal point in my career.
“I wanted to get that win captured on canvas and I’ve gotten this far in a couple of sittings.
“I am not sure if it is finished yet but I think I’ve got the feeling and emotion captured in it.
“The moment I chose is when Daniel took a knee and I realised I’d won and walked away, job done.
“I felt I was already winning the fight from around the ninth round and then one final crisp jab ended it all.”
Around the image of Dubois, 23, kneeling at Westminster’s Church House are the words “gold” and “won”.

Joyce confirms the British title win helped ease the pain of a woeful Rio Games decision which robbed him of a gold that may have brought the fame Anthony Joshua enjoyed four years earlier.
He said: “I never did get that medal — but hopefully this is my golden moment.
“It would have made me an overnight star and probably made the start of my career a lot easier and more lucrative.
“Hopefully that Dubois win can be the launch pad instead.”
Joyce is quick to point out the painting is not about reminding Dubois of that humbling night.
He added: “An instant or quick rematch usually follows a draw or a controversial decision, which is not what happened.”

The 42-year-old will face off against the American on August 28 with the WBC and IBF world welterweight belts on the line.
Pacquiao has once again linked up with Freddie Roach for the bout, and is training at the Wild Card Gym in California.
His team shared some footage on YouTube of the Filipino fighter being hit with a wooden stick on his arms and abs.
It is a method he has used at various points throughout his career to tone the muscles.
Spence Jr boasts a record of 27-0 with 21 knockouts and currently holds the WBC and IBF welterweight titles.
But Pacquiao was stripped of the WBA (Super) welterweight title, which he won in his last fight against Keith Thurman in 2019.
This was due to what the board deemed as ‘inactivity’.
The Ring Magazine also voted to have their title on the line, despite usually having the vacant belt contested only between their top two ranked fighters.

Floyd Mayweather proudly posts adorable snap of tiny grandson with clenched fists proving boxing is already in his blood

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has proudly posted an adorable snap of his tiny grandson. And the kid’s clenched fists prove boxing is already in his blood.
Floyd Mayweather, 44, shared a picture of his grandson with the iconic clenched boxing fists
Mayweather, 44, uploaded the picture to social media showing his grandson dressed smartly in a shirt, braces and bow tie.
The infant also had his fists clenched and arms raised in the famous boxing stance.
Mayweather captioned the picture: “My other grandson ready to box.”
And it just goes to show that he hails from a famous line of ace fighters.
Mayweather’s father Floyd Sr – plus his uncles Roger and Jeff – were all fine boxers.
And it would take a brave man to bet against Mayweather’s grandson from making a similar impact should he venture into the ring later on.
Meanwhile, boxing legend Mike Tyson claims former five-weight world champ Mayweather is ‘damaged’ after his controversial clash with Logan Paul.
Last month’s eight-round exhibition surprisingly went the distance.
And Mayweather looked a shadow of the man who toyed with former UFC champion Conor McGregor four years ago.
Indeed, Tyson believes Mayweather’s inability to see off Paul shows boxing has taken its toll on him.
Speaking on his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast. Tyson said: “You see, Floyd, he is damaged.
“He is damaged. He wants to come back and fight. You see, that’s what that does.
“I came back, that’s not right. It f**** you up, it is damaged.
“Listen, I didn’t feel that way, I never wanted to do this s*** again, and I don’t know what it is.

Anthony Joshua fight with Oleksandr Usyk CONFIRMED for September 25 in front of packed out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

ANTHONY JOSHUA vs Oleksandr Usyk has finally been confirmed as a 60,000 sell-out for September 25 at Tottenham Hotspur stadium. With British boxing still reeling from AJ vs Tyson Fury collapsing, the WBA, IBF and WBO king has managed to lift the spirits with a mandatory defence against the Ukraine icon.

Joshua, 31, won Olympic super-heavyweight gold at London 2012 the day after Usyk, now 34, won the same medal in the heavyweight division.
Usyk went on to rule the 14st 4lbs cruiserweight division as undisputed champion and has now enjoyed two warm-up fights in the blue-riband ranks.
Now the WBO has ordered 24-1 AJ to face the undefeated southpaw and Spurs – in a fight of their own to keep hold of their star striker this summer – have landed two for one very special night.
North Londoner Josh, who took a recent training camp to Marbella but will finish up his preparations back at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield, said: “The date is set and we are fully locked in.
“September 25, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I put it all on the line again and it’s time to defend my crown.
“We are two Olympic gold medallists who have fought our way to the top and never avoided challenges.
“The stadium is exceptional, the atmosphere will be electric, I’m honoured to be the first person to fight in such an awe inspiring venue.
“The stage is set and I am ready to handle business.”
    ‘HUGE OCCASION’
Enigmatic Usyk, who outpointed Brit brawler Derek Chisora at Wembley Arena in October – with AJ in the front row – kept it short and ominous, saying: “The path will be mastered by the walking one.”
Daniel Levy already faces a hectic summer convincing Harry Kane to honour his contract or flog him to the highest bidder.
But he has scored a stunner by bringing this mouthwatering Sky Sports Box Office bout to his new playground.
AJ was supposed to face Kubrat Pulev at the brand new ground last summer, before covid-19 forced that bout to take place at Wembley Arena in december.
But expert negotiator Levy has finally got his man with North Londoner AJ headlining on his show, a day before the North London derby at the Emirates.
Levy said: “This is a huge occasion for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“Anthony Joshua is an icon in the world of sport and to have him fight here in London N17, against a top opponent in Oleksandr Usyk, will be amazing for the area of Tottenham.
“This event will once again showcase the stadium’s ability to take the hosting of world-class sporting occasions to the next level – we cannot wait for September 25.”

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has had the deal wrapped up for a while but has wisely waited for Freedom Day to hopefully return the hospitality and entertainment industry to normal.
The Essex fight mogul said: “Olympic gold vs Olympic gold, unified world heavyweight champion vs undisputed cruiserweight world champion.
“This one has it all and I can’t wait to stage this huge event in front of over 60,000 at the stunning Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 25.”
Anthony Joshua will ‘walk straight through’ Oleksandr Usyk as he’s ‘too good’ for Ukrainian, says Tyson Fury’s dad John More
