    JOYCE DELIGHT – TAKAM FUMES
    Credit: Reuters

    FRANK WARREN SPEAKS
“If you are taking shots and not giving anything back it’s the right decision.
“Both fighters gave everything, it was terrific value for money.
“He is the mandatory challenger. Provided AJ wins and Tyson [Fury] wins, I think that fight will happen, and then he [Joyce] is next.”
    JOE JOYCE SPEAKS
“He is a tough African lion, all credit to him, it was a good fight and he hit me with some good shots.
“I had to take my opportunity when I saw it.
“He hurt me mildly, but I am pretty tough and weathered the storm.
“I used the sweet science of boxing to get the win.
“What I want is AJ or Usyk.”
    TAYLOR CRITICAL
Undisputed light-welterweight king Josh Taylor describes it as the ‘worst I’ve seen of Joe Joyce’.
The Scot says Joyce was being hit far too easily, and that he ‘needs to go back to the gym and work on a lot’ before he thinks about fighting the likes of Anthony Joshua.
    JOYCE VS JOSHUA NEXT?
So, Joe Joyce stops Carlos Takam in the sixth round to make himself WBO mandatory challenger.
That belt is of course held by Anthony Joshua – who defends it against Oleksandr Usyk in September.
He did say he would win in the sixth pre-fight…
    TAKAM IS ABSOLUTELY FUMING
The Frenchman is furious with the referee for the sixth-round stoppage.
He never went down – but was throwing nothing back and was unsteady on his feet.
There will be many who will say it was an early stoppage…
ROUND SIX – IT’S ALL OVER – JOYCE WINS BY KO
WHAT A START FROM JOYCE. How did Takam stay on his feet there?
But it doesn’t last much longer. A continued assault and referee Steve Gray stops the fight!
    ROUND FIVE
Takam looks like he is taking a breather – until he hammers in a swinging left hand.
But Joyce is not put off, and continues coming forward.
Takam is noticeably slower – Joyce is slowing him down but not using his jab to sag him further.
    ROUND FOUR
Both men throwing absolute weapons here, heads rocking all over the place, but Joyce seems confident he can take what Takam can give.
Lovely shot through the middle from Takam, bit lazy from Joyce.
But the Brit responds with a crunching body shot. And another with 45 seconds to go that had Takam hunched over a bit.
    TAKAM NOT MESSING AROUND
    Credit: Reuters

    ROUND THREE
Takam is bouncy on his feet, but you wouldn’t think the 40-year-old can continue that.
Beautiful body shot from Joyce, the crowd whoop with delight.
Joyce seemingly trying to walk through Takam who continues throwing heavy artillery here.
But Joyce lands a beauty on the button just before the bell sounds. His first round of the night for us.
    ROUND TWO
Joyce’s jabs look measured, but perhaps a little slow.
Takam again tries to throw that big right, but Joyce deflects.
But the Frenchman lands there with another big one, gets the crowd going at least.
Slow start from Joyce here. He is caught be two bangers late on that seal the round for Takam.

    DING DING, ROUND 1
Joyce, as expected, tries to get his jab going.
Takam lands a heavy right that hits the pads, Joyce responds with a firm hook of his won.
The Frenchman is relying on landing a big overhand already. Joyce needs to be careful.
TAKAM READY TO SEIZE HIS CHANCE

    HERE COMES THE JUGGERNAUT
6ft 6in beast Joe Joyce is making his way to the ring.
    WOW.
He is wearing the strangest of headpieces. A red, metal helmet.
Erm… it is of COURSE The Juggernaut from the X-Men.
    TAKAM IS OUT FIRST
And the Frenchman is coming out to the John Cena anthem The Time Is Now!
The 40-year-old is looking in confident mood – he fancies this.

UP NEXT – THE BIG ONE!
Joe Joyce will be making his way out shortly to fight Carlos Takam.
Arguably it is the Brit’s biggest test of his fledgling pro career so far.
If he wins, Joyce will be the mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua’s WBO title.
AJ lays that on the line against Oleksandr Usyk in September.
AND NOW IT’S ALL OVER – SHEERAZ STOPS GURRIA!
It was a stunning finish there for Sheeraz, Gurria was clearly hurt from some rasping body shots on the first knockdown.
Then a variety of punches saw the Spaniard dropped again before the ref stopped the fight.
    GURRIA GOES DOWN!
A beautiful combination from Sheeraz sees the Spaniard sink to the canvas.
It didn’t look like he was going to get up but he managed it…. for now
    SHEERAZ MOTORING AHEAD
Four rounds down and all four for Sheeraz surely here.
He is just far too rangy for a subdued Gurria so far.
    TWO ROUNDS DOWN
Nice opener by Sheeraz as he tries to dominate Gurria with his jab.
The work continues into the second, with Sheeraz looking huge compared to his Spanish opponent.
Gurria already seems a bit marked on his face.
    TRIBUTE TO SAKA
Hamza Sheeraz comes out for the fight wearing an Arsenal shirt with ‘Saka’ on the back.
That’s in reference to Bukayo Saka, who received vile racist abuse after missing a penalty for England in their shootout defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

Joe Joyce wears bizarre X-men style walk-on outfit… then demolishes Carlos Takam in superhuman showing

JOE JOYCE donned a bizarre X-men style ring-walk outfit before producing a superhuman finish to stop Carlos Takam in the sixth round. The 35-year-old was supposed to look like X-men character ‘Juggernaut’ in line with his nickname but fans were not convinced by the red helmet and body-suit.

Joyce successfully defended his belts and called for a fight with Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua nextCredit: Reuters
However, that was soon forgotten as he kept his hopes of an Anthony Joshua world title showdown alive with a terrifying display of pain tolerance.
The Putney ace was made the WBO mandatory challenger for a shot at AJ at the start of fight week, as long as he came through tough old veteran Takam on Saturday night.
But the 2016 Olympic silver winner almost blew his brilliant opportunity by taking a shellacking from the 40-year-old veteran.
Takam took AJ 10 rounds in 2017 – on just 10 day’s notice – and showed the same teak toughness and heavy hands before a shock right hand at the start of the sixth ended his chance at a huge upset.
Joyce started the fight by peppering Takan’s bearded face with the same piston-like jab that battered Daniel Dubois into submission in November.
But, just as the Englishman relaxed his neck muscles with a few rolls of his head, Takam looped up a couple of right hooks that warned him to stay more alert.
Joyce is famous for having one of the toughest chins in world boxing and infamous for using it as a form of defence.
In the second he absorbed half a dozen shots from both of Takam’s fists that would have collapsed an ox.

But still he marched forward trying to club the warrior squatting down five inches shorter below him and hurling up heavy artillery.
Takam’s peekaboo style was taking his head down inline with Joyce’s waist and the Brit banger was failing to generate any power on his downward punches.
The visitor, however, was smashing the beads of sweat from Joyce’s new braided locks as the London fans started to fear for their man and his freakishly strong face.
Warhorse Takam started to look ragged by the start of the fourth and a right hook to the ribs made him gasp for air.
But the relentless challenger for Joyce’s Commonwealth strap kept launching haymakers and connecting with Joyce’s shaken skull.
The fifth thankfully slipped by without Joyce swallowing another howitzer and Takam looked to be flagging after a violent start.
And Joyce sparked Takam senseless with the very first punch of the right hand and kept up a barrage until he was stopped on his feet.

Lordie tweeted: “Boxing is slowly turning into a joke, how can Joe Joyce come out like this.”
And TalkSport 2 presenter Paul Coyte uploaded a picture of himself with a Halloween pumpkin on his head and quipped: “Me with the Joe Joyce look.”

Jake Paul CONFIRMS Conor McGregor talks and says he is ‘money fight’ for UFC star but Tyron Woodley a ‘harder opponent’

JAKE PAUL confirmed he is in talks with Conor McGregor, and insisted he is the ‘money fight’ for the UFC superstar. But the YouTuber warned his next opponent Tyron Woodley is a ‘harder’ fight than Irishman McGregor, 33.

Paul, 24, has continuously chased a mega-money boxing match with the former two-weight UFC champion.
And he revealed negotiations are actively taking place and believes he offers McGregor the biggest payday out there.
Paul told Colin Cowherd: “I think it will happen. Look, I mean, I’m the money fight for Conor McGregor right now.
“There is no other fighter right now who is on a bigger level than me that is calling out Conor McGregor and wants to fight Conor.
“Our team is in touch with his team and there’s talks of it actually happening.
“And people at first thought I was just joking when I said I wanted to fight him.
“But now it’s as real as it gets, it’s more real than ever and by the way, if we do fight, I’m going to knock him out.
“I think Tyron Woodley is a harder opponent than Conor McGregor.”

Paul faces ex-UFC champion Woodley, 39, on Sunday, August 29 in his fourth and most challenging fight to date.
And he feels it will prove more difficult than fighting McGregor, 33, who the social media star outweighs by a massive two and a half stone.
Paul said: “Conor, I think the fame, the money has got to his head, he’s lost that fighters edge, that motivation. And look, he’s a smaller guy.
“He’s 5-what-8? He’s 155-pounds, Tyron Woodley is a 200-pound, massive, explosive guy, so he’s a lot more dangerous fighter than Conor McGregor.”
Paul is 3-0 in his boxing career but has so far beaten only limited opposition since his January 2020 debut.
    Jake Paul entered elite company
That includes against online rival ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, a renowned grappler.
But it has not stopped Paul from relentlessly calling out McGregor, even offering him $50million in January.
That was before Dustin Poirier, 32, avenged his 2014 loss against McGregor by winning their rematch by knockout.
Paul attended the trilogy bout at UFC 264 which ended in chaos.
McGregor broke his tibia seconds before the end of round one, losing by doctor stoppage.
He is now out for six-months having undergone surgery, with Paul facing a further wait to get his dream fight.

Tony Bellew KO’d actor Michael B Jordan while filming CREED movie, but Hollywood star says he wasn’t out cold

TONY BELLEW accidentally knocked out Michael B Jordan while filming CREED – but the actor revealed he was not out for the count. Bellew, a former cruiserweight world champion, played the role of Ricky Conlan in the 2015 Rocky spin-off movie.

Michael B Jordan said he was not out for the count
Michael B Jordan starred in CREED alongside Tony Bellew
In the film, Conlan faces Jordan’s character Adonis Creed – son of Rocky’s former opponent-turned friend Apollo.
And while shooting the final fights scene, Bellew caught Jordan clean on the chin – so much in fact it put the American down.
Sylvester Stallone, creator of Rocky, tweeted at the time: “Michael B Jordan, ‘Young Creed’ and ‘getting KOd for real!’
“But he got up and did it again! That’s called guts!!”
Despite Stallone’s praise, Jordan revealed while on the Graham Norton Show that he was not actually unconscious.
He said: “Sly enjoys putting me through punishment, he really does, he’s so mischievous.
“In the Rocky films it’s like a badge of honour to take a real punch.
“And when you do slow-mo shots you can’t fake it because if you did a slow-mo shot and it was a miss, you would see the space and that it wouldn’t connect.

“So you have to take a real punch. Sly gets up and says, ‘Michael, listen, you gotta take a real punch.’
“I’m like, ‘Ugh, okay, did you do it?’ He says, ‘Yeah, I did it, did it a bunch of times.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, if you did it, I’ll do it.’
“We ended up setting up the cameras and I took a real punch. See the crazy thing was, I wasn’t technically ‘knocked out’.
“But I got hit, went down and the camera panned in. The first time we did it, Tony’s glove was in the way so we didn’t see it – so we had to do it again.
“So we did it the second time, I got hit and I could feel the energy of the studio. I was like, ‘It must have really looked good because everybody is quiet.’
“I was definitely seeing stars, I was not all there, smelling the canvas and everything. It smelled like Pine-Sol.
“But yeah, I took a real punch, it felt like I was in a car accident for like four days afterwards.
“Tony said he only went 40 per cent.”

Tokyo 2020: Meet the Team GB boxers hoping to replicate Anthony Joshua and Nicola Adams including Daniel Dubois’ sister

TEAM GB travel to Tokyo for the delayed Olympics with a group of elite amateurs looking to replicate Anthony Joshua and Nicola Adams.Joshua, 31, famously won gold in the super-heavyweight division at the London 2012 Games.

And the same year, Adams, 38, made history as the first-ever women’s boxing gold medalist, later becoming a two-time champion in Rio four years later.
Now, Great Britain are in an even greater position to return home with a bag of medals due to the packed talent out in Japan.
Here, SunSport runs down the boxers competing in the Games.
    Galal Yafai, flyweight
Yafai is the younger brother of professional boxers Kal – an ex-world champion – and Gamal, a former European title holder.
Galal, 28, won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Queensland, Australia and also boxed in the last Olympics in Brazil.
He was beaten in the last 16 by Cuban Joahnys Argilagos, and snubbed turning pro to instead finish off his Olympic dreams.

    Peter McGrail, featherweight
McGrail, from Liverpool, is considered one of the best of the pack and also carries a vast amount of experience in the unpaid ranks.
He is already a Commonwealth gold medalist, European champion and twice won bronze in the Worlds.
McGrail, 25, has even been dubbed ‘The scouse Lomachenko’ due to his slippery southpaw style and ability to slip and counter with so much ease.

    Luke McCormack, lightweight
McCormack, twin to GB team-mate Pat, is a star in the making alongside his brother due to their infectious personalities.
But it is certainly not substance over style for the Sunderland boxer, who has won silver at the Europeans and bronze at the Commonwealth Games.
Luke, 26, is also an ABA champion – the highest prize in English amateur boxing.

    Pat McCormack, welterweight
Pat, equally as eccentric as his brother, is one to watch in Tokyo and has high hopes of going all the way having been ranked World No1.
He won gold in the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and a year later took home a silver medal in the Worlds, losing to Russian Andrey Zamkovoy in the final.
More importantly, Pat, 26, has Olympic experience having competed in Rio at light-welterweight but was knocked out in the last 16 by Cuba.

    Ben Whittaker, light-heavyweight
Whittaker, who calls himself ‘The Future of Boxing’, is another tipped for superstardom and has reaped the reward since moving up from middleweight.
At light-heavyweight, he has won silver at the European Games in 2019 and bronze at the Worlds the same year.
Whittaker, 24, who stands at 6ft 3in, has caught the eye of Joshua while training at their Sheffield HQ and uses his range expertly in bouts.

    Cheavon Clarke, heavyweight
The heavyweight contender, which would be cruiserweight in the pro ranks, represented Jamaica in the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
But after switching allegiances and joining the GB setup, Clarke, 30, has become a real force with a Commonwealth Bronze for England in the 2018.
He also has a European silver medal for his efforts in the 2017 championships.

    Frazer Clarke, super-heavyweight
It has been a long road to the Olympics for Clarke – no relation to Cheavon – having been overlooked in 2012 for AJ and then for Joe Joyce in Rio in 2016.
But finally the big man, who captains GB in Japan, will get his chance to medal, just like Joshua and Joyce, 35, did.
Clarke, 29, is full of experience with a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, European silver and ABA title.

    Charley Davison, flyweight
Davison, 32, retired from boxing in 2012 to start a family as she narrowly missed out on selection for the London Olympics.
But the mother of three returned to the gym in 2019 after seven years out – first only to lose weight – before re-finding her passion for boxing.
Within a year she became England’s national champion and now has a medal at Tokyo in her sights.

    Karriss Artingstall, featherweight
Artingstall, the first ever British female soldier to box at the Olympics, comes into the games having medalled internationally before.
She won bronze at the Worlds in 2019 before taking home the silver in the Europeans the same year.
Artingstall, 26, a Gunner in the British Army, joined the GB Boxing’s Podium Potential squad in 2018.

    Caroline Dubois, lightweight
The youngest member on the team and sister to heavyweight prospect Daniel, 23, Caroline is something of an amateur prodigy.
As a Youth, the 20-year-old won it all, including World, European and Olympic golds.
Caroline as a senior qualified for Tokyo at the European Qualification Tournament, and left with a silver, and has lost only twice in 37 bouts.

    Lauren Price, middleweight
Price is a decorated sportswoman, winning over 50 caps for the Wales Women national football team and also competing in kickboxing.
She even played professionally for Cardiff City but gave up football in 2014 to focus on boxing, winning Commonwealth bronze the same year.
Price, 27, has since won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, Worlds and Europeans.

Jake Paul’s coach warns Tyron Woodley is ‘in way over his head’ and offers ex-boxing champ Shawn Porter ‘friendly wager’

JAKE PAUL’S coach warned Tyron Woodley is ‘in way over his head’ – and will offer Shawn Porter a ‘friendly wager’ to prove it. Paul faces the ex-UFC welterweight in his fourth and most challenging fight to date, on Sunday, August 29 in the YouTuber’s home of Cleveland.

Former welterweight champion Shawn PorterCredit: Ryan Hafey
Former boxing champion Porter, 33, has seen Woodley training in boxing gyms before and backed the American to win.
He told DAZN: “Unlike a lot of the guys in the UFC and the MMA game Woodley really, really has worked on his hands for a number of years.
“I’ve walked into plenty of boxing gyms and just saw him in there training.
“So I mean, it’s no secret if you watch him in the UFC, you’ve seen that he’s pretty decent with his hands.
“And with that being said, if you want a prediction, I do expect Tyron Woodley to handle the business, to represent for combat sports, because the UFC is a combat sport now.
“But I find it hard to see Jake Paul beating a true fighter and I know Tyron, I think he was stopped in one of his last fights.
“And I know it’s been a little bit of time since he fought too, but I just can’t see that one, man.
“I can’t see Jake Paul getting the upper hand over Tyron Woodley.”
DREAM TEAM IS BACK! SIGN UP NOW FOR THE 21/22 SEASON FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN £100,000

Despite Porter’s prediction, Paul’s head trainer BJ Flores, a retired cruiserweight, is willing to bet otherwise.
Flores, 42, said to BoxingScene: “This is one of those situations where a lot of ‘experts’ are going to pick Tyron coming in.
“Tyron was a very polished UFC champion for a long  period of time and he will be an excellent candidate for the Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible.
“However, Tyron has greatly underestimated Jake and very early on it will be a biohazard.  Tyron is in way over his head on August 29.
“Every single day, we are perfecting the necessary tools to take Tyron into the deep waters and drown him.
How Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley compare ahead of their boxing match
“We are ready today, tomorrow, next week. It doesn’t matter. Shawn and I can make a friendly wager to make this more interesting.”
Woodley, 39, reigned the UFC’s welterweight division from 2016-2018 before being dethroned by current champ Kamaru Usman, 33.
But he is still without a win since, losing four in a row before leaving the UFC to pursue boxing.
Paul, 24, comes into the fight 3-0 all by knockout but has so far faced limited opposition.
That includes against online rival ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 36, a renowned grappler.

McGregor broke his tibia seconds before the end of round one, losing by doctor stoppage.
He is now out for six-months having undergone surgery, with Paul facing a further wait to get his dream fight.

Paige VanZant loses rematch against ex-UFC rival Rachael Ostovich in brutal bare-knuckle boxing bout

PAIGE VANZANT was beaten by former UFC rival Rachael Ostovich when they fought again under brutal bare-knuckle boxing rules. The two ex-MMA stars headlined Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and put on a thrilling show over the frantic five, two-minute rounds.

But it was Ostovich – defeated by VanZant in the UFC two years ago – who was awarded the verdict on the judges scorecards.
She said: “It’s been a long time, two and a half years since the last time we’ve been in the cage.
“No different, still sport but I still felt Page VanZant fought her heart out. A round of applause, show some respect.”
VanZant, 27, started out the aggressor in the opening round coming forward and even landed a heavy-looking right hand.
But as the pair began to find their range early on, lots of clinching led to dirty boxing on the inside.
In the second round, it was contested largely at range but Ostovich, 30, began to look more comfortable.
It set the American up for a big third round, where her right hand could barley miss over the top.
A combination towards the end put Ostovich in the driving seat heading into the second half of the fight, where her right proved decisive.

In the fourth, one counter overhand towards the end of the round landed flush on VanZant, who was forced to grab and hold.
Ostovich continued the pressure in the final round landing the cleaner shots, despite PVZ’s determination.
VanZant’s aggression opened her up for counters coming in, and left the judges with no doubt who the winner was.
Two scored it 48-47 in favour of Ostovich and one 49-46, giving the Hawaiian the perfect BKFC debut.
For VanZant, she is now 0-2 in bare-knuckle, having lost her debut to Britain Hart, 31, in February.
