Anthony Joshua rival Oleksandr Usyk shows off impressive body transformation as Hearn says his small size is problem

OLEKSANDR USYK has been piling on the pounds in preparation for heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The former undisputed cruiserweight king faces AJ – the who has the WBA, IBF and WBO unified belts – on September 25 at Tottenham’s stadium.

It will be his third fight at heavyweight, having beat Chazz Witherspoon, 39, on his divisional debut in 2019, and then Derek Chisora, 37, a year later.
Since beating Chisora over 12 rounds, Usyk, 34, has been bulking up and recently scaled 16st 4lb in an online video.
That is still almost a stone lighter than AJ, who weighed in at 17st 2lb for his last win against Kubrat Pulev, 40, in December 2019.
Promoter Eddie Hearn told talkSPORT: “I think that Usyk will never be a fully fledged heavyweight – a real heavyweight in terms of size.
“But what he will always have is a huge amount of skill.
“It takes time for people to bed into heavyweight, so put it this way, it would’ve been a lot easier fight for AJ a year-and-a-half ago.
‘AJ’S A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEAST’
“Now Usyk has fought a real heavyweight contender in Chisora, that will actually help him to start to understand what needs to be done.
“But AJ’s a different kind of beast. A good big guy will always beat a good small guy, so we’ll see.”
Joshua, 31, was only ordered to fight Usyk by the WBO after his all-British unification bout with Tyson Fury collapsed.
Fury, 32, was instead made to face Deontay Wilder, 35, once again after the American won his right to a trilogy bout in arbitration.
It leaves AJ waiting even longer for his shot at heavyweight supremacy, but he warned Usyk poses just as much of a threat as anyone else.
He said to Sky Sports: “I’ve got another challenger who’s good, just as good. I have to be serious about him now.

Floyd Mayweather was ‘TARGETED’ in drive-by shooting that left his bodyguard with horrific gunshot wound

FLOYD Mayweather’s bodyguard was shot protecting the retired boxing star from a “targeted” drive-by shooting that left him with a horrific wound.Greg La Rosa, 39, exclusively recounted to The Sun how he took a bullet to the leg while traveling in a convoy to a hotel in Atlanta, Georgia with Mayweather on April 9, 2018.

In 2018 he was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting he called an ‘ambush’Credit: Greg La Rosa
The Money Team (TMT) security member said he was driving one of three vehicles in a convoy carrying the boxer and his entourage back to their hotel after an appearance at the Medusa nightclub.
“I guess Floyd had put the event on his Instagram page,” La Rosa said. “It was a pre-planned party appearance.”
La Rosa said there were “no issues” inside the club and described the evening as a “great night”. Mayweather stayed inside the club for a little over an hour before leaving to head back to the InterContinental Hotel.
    ‘ABSOLUTE AMBUSH’
The “ambush” happened as the convoy made a left turn towards the hotel’s valet, La Rosa said.
“All I heard was a big bang on the side of the car,” he recounted. “It almost sounded like a car accident, or as if someone had grabbed a baseball bat and hit the side of the car as hard as they could.”
La Rosa said he didn’t realize that shots were being fired initially. After a few seconds, however, he dropped down in his seat and clamored for cover.
“It was an absolute ambush,” he said. “You don’t know where it’s coming from. And as I was going down between the seats, I felt one go into my leg on the inside of my left leg.
“Honestly it didn’t hurt, but in my head, I knew I was shot. I said, ‘Guys, I’m hit.'”
In total, police say 12 shots were fired at Mayweather’s convoy. In a press release at the time, Atlanta PD said the shooting was “not random” and appeared to be targeted.
La Rosa was the only one injured. He was rushed to the hospital by other members of the TMT security team.

The bodyguard said he was in shock when he arrived in hospital, taking the situation “lightly” as they rushed him into a room on a gurney and placed a heart monitor on him.
As time went on, La Rosa said the wound started to hurt.
“I felt as if my leg was in a meat grinder,” he said.
“The bullet was deep in my leg but had come out.  I think the way it came out is that the bullet mushroomed as it hit the metal to go through the door and it hit my leg and went into my leg with my pant leg and my sock there.
“So as I pulled it up to look, I think I pulled it out,” he continued. “I had a big hole there.”
    ‘IT WAS TARGETED’
La Rosa, who describes his relationship with Mayweather as “brotherly” and “close”, said the 15 world title winner called him immediately when he heard that he’d been shot.
“He told me, ‘Greg, they told me you got hit. Are you OK?’ He was obviously scared and nervous. I said, ‘I’m good. Just get your stuff and get out of here.'”
La Rosa said Mayweather was insistent that he wanted to come to the hospital and see him.
“I said, ‘Do this for me and don’t come right now,'” La Rosa said. “I didn’t want him there because that would mean that he was exposed, and I didn’t know who else was there.”
La Rosa said he’s “put money” on the shooting being targeted.
“We’re a peaceful bunch. With the exception of when Floyd does his fights, it’s promotional,” he said. “That’s not street stuff, that’s promotional business.
“It’s just sad to see that people are willing to take people’s lives over stuff like that.”
La Rosa recovered from his injuries without any lasting effects but still has a large scar.
La Rosa said he and Floyd share a brotherly bondCredit: Greg LaRosa
Police released a video of the shooting back in 2018, showing a red Dodge Durango pulling up alongside Mayweather’s convoy at an intersection and opening fire.
The vehicle sped away from the scene after firing 12 rounds. No arrests were made.
    RELENTLESS WORK
La Rosa said he’s been working as part of Mayweather’s security detail for the last eight years.
Describing the role as a “365 day a year, seven days a week, 24 hours a day type job”, his work as part of the TMT entourage has taken him all across the US and beyond, including the Maldives and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
He first encountered Floyd after being employed to work for him for a BET event in Miami in 2013.
La Rosa said he was one of seven or eight other bodyguards drafted in for the gig. But after his work was done, La Rosa said Floyd approached him with a stack of cash and said, “I need you to stay with me.”
“The other guys, none of them stayed. So I guess I did something impressive,” he mused.
In the near-decade since, La Rosa said he and Floyd have forged a “super close” relationship.
“We’re like brothers,” he said. “More like a family relationship than a boss and employee.”
La Rosa said he’s been working as part of Mayweather’s security detail for the last eight years

    FLOYD IS A ‘REGULAR GUY’
Working for Floyd varies on a day-to-day basis, La Rosa says, but he described the decorated and undefeated boxer as a kind and humble person, in contrast to the flashy and larger-than-life persona he often projects in the media.
“Floyd likes to experience regular stuff,” he said. “He doesn’t like high-class restaurants. We go to – he calls them hole in the walls. He loves that kind of stuff.
“We just go to normal restaurants and sit at normal tables. They’re like, ‘do you want the back room?’ He says ‘No. We’ll sit right there.'”
La Rosa continued: “He likes to feel as normal as possible. Now that I’ve known him for so long, he’s nothing else but a regular guy. …He’s not high maintenance at all.
“Floyd’s is very different than other celebrities. I’m not saying all other celebrities are, but there are many that are.
He also lets us – we went to Bora Bora, Maldives, stuff like that, he doesn’t get us rooms off to the side. We have the rooms that are on the water which cost six or seven thousand dollars a night sometimes those rooms.
“So we’re experiencing what like an NBA star or something would experience.”
    ‘I’M MORE AWARE NOW’
La Rosa said he wishes others could experience what it’s like to be a bodyguard for a major star, but insisted it’s not all fun, games, and expensive dinners – as the shooting in April 2018 demonstrated.
While the incident was frightening, La Rosa said it hasn’t changed much about how he operates, only making him “a little more aware now” when he’s on the job.
“You’re aware that things can happen. Mostly I was just aware of how easy it is for somebody to just take somebody’s life like it’s nothing. Like you’re just a piece of garbage or something.
“When you sign up for this job you know these things are possible and that they can happen.
La Rosa said he wishes others could experience what it’s like to be a bodyguard for a major star, but insisted it’s not all fun and games
“So when people on the internet say, ‘you’re lucky, you have the best job in the world’, I do feel lucky, but at the same time, you don’t see the crap that goes with it.
“I have experiences that only the rich and famous have, and that’s kind of the stuff that people see. They see the lights and glamour but they don’t see what’s behind the scenes.
“It’s a lot of work 24/7. You’re sacrificing. You give up your family life. You can’t make plans to do things. It’s not easy.”
When he does find spare time for himself, La Rosa said he works in real estate.

He also spends time with his aunt Paula, whom he says he gets his “toughness from.”
“My Aunt Paula, she’s my godmother, she’s always been a big part of my life, growing up. It’s an Italian tradition. Godmother is a very big thing. She’s always been there for me.”
“She’s so tough. She’s a really tough, tough, tough woman. I can attribute some of my toughness to her.”

Inside Deontay Wilder’s HOME training camp for Tyson Fury trilogy fight which includes outdoor ring and basketball court

DEONTAY WILDER is training for his trilogy bout against Tyson Fury with all the home comforts having built a gym around his Alabama mansion. The American heavyweight faces his rival on October 9 after it was rescheduled from July 24 when Fury tested positive for coronavirus.

Malik Scott and Deontay Wilder training at the home gym
He started training again under new coach Malik Scott from his home in Tuscaloosa last year.
And after starting his camp to face Fury from home, he has since returned after the recent postponement.
His co-manager Shelly Finkel told SunSport: “As he was building his house, he put a gym in it and that gym expanded, and expanded and he started training out of it last year.
“He is very punctual, he works out more than ever, and he is focussing on all of the things that were not there before.”
Wilder has an outdoor ring, where he has been seen hitting pads with Scott, the man he knocked out in 2014.
And has a full-sized basketball court outside, where he also trains with his new head coach.
Inside, Wilder has a weights room for his strength work, but has heavy bags fitted and an area for pad work.

But for his sparring, he returns to his old Skyy Boxing gym, headed up by Jay Deas, who was formerly his head trainer.
Deas is still on the team, and helped recruit 6ft 4in Stephan Shaw as a sparring partner to replicate Fury’s style.
Shaw, 28, said: “I’m here in camp to bring the finesse, the tricks of the trade of boxing and the best work that I can give them.
“Whatever Jay Deas needs from me, whatever those guys need, I can provide it.
“I’ve gone southpaw before and I’m primarily an orthodox fighter, I can adjust.
“It’s been great work, Deontay’s looking sharp, he’s looking pretty good.”

Shaw has been a long-time camp member of Wilder’s and helped the ex-champion in his two prior fights with Fury.
The first ended in a draw while the Bronze Bomber was beaten in seven rounds when they rematched two years later.
Shaw reveals not much has changed preparation-wise compared to the two camps before fighting Fury.
But he hailed the influence Scott has had on Wilder since taking over after defeat last year.
Shaw said: “It’s the same but I can tell he’s taking this fight more seriously than ever.
“Malik Scott, from what I’ve seen, has been a great difference in the camp. It’s just that experienced ear.
“Yeah, Deontay might have beaten him, knocked him out, but Malik has more boxing experience than Deontay does.

“Just making sure he’s been the ultimate technician, blocking when he’s supposed to be blocking, making sure he’s aware, alert.

Manny Pacquiao reveals his two favourite wins but says beating Errol Spence Jr will put him ‘among the all-time greats’

DESPITE 71 fights, titles in eight divisions and already making history, beating Errol Spence Jr could be Manny Pacquiao’s personal career highlight. The Filipino icon looks to roll back the years and defy the odds once more when he challenges unbeaten Spence for welterweight titles in Vegas on August 21.

A win for Pacquiao, to his own admission, will put him among boxing’s greatest and potentially eclipse his two most memorable nights.
The first was when he beat Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2001 for the super-bantamweight world title – his first fight with trainer Freddie Roach.
Then, seven years later Pacquiao catapulted himself to superstardom after battering Oscar De La Hoya into retirement.
And despite all the glory between and after those special wins, dethroning Spence, 31, at the ripe old age of 42 could put PacMan alongside the sport’s absolute best.
In an exclusive interview with SunSport, Pacquiao said: “We recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of my US debut where I beat Lehlo Ledwaba to win his IBF junior featherweight title.
“That was certainly special because it was also my first fight with Freddie.
“The fight that had the biggest impact on my career was against Oscar De La Hoya. Everything changed for me after that one.
“I got a lot of satisfaction beating Matthysse, Broner and Thurman in a 12-month period, becoming the oldest man to win a welterweight title.

“Beating Errol Spence would be very special to me for all the obvious reasons and could elevate me into the discussion of being among the all-time greats in the sport.
“We have a lot of hard work left to do first for that to happen.”
Pacquiao will have been out the ring for over two years when he returns in Las Vegas, having last fought in July 2019 when he beat Keith Thurman, 32.
Thurman had promised to usher the boxing icon into retirement – but instead lost his WBA belt and unbeaten record.
Spence will also be defending his WBC and IBF titles as well as a 27-fight undefeated run and claimed he is the man to knock Pacquiao out of the sport.
PacMan knows he is once more dealing with an American pound-for-pound star looking to profit like never before by beating the ring legend.
But defending his honour for his loyal followers is what inspires him most as the golden oldie opened up about continuing to fight the best in the world.

Pacquiao said: “It is easy. I love boxing. It is my passion.
“But I also want to give the fans a good performance and that is one of the many motivations for me train as hard as I do.
“To be at your best takes hard work. I want to win and show everyone I can still compete at the highest level.
“Errol Spence is not just one of the best welterweights, he is one of the best fighters.
“He is young, undefeated and a world champion. He also wants to knock my head off. That is all the motivation I need.”
Pacquiao has become beloved by boxing fans for his dazzling performances and reputation for the challenging the best in the business.

But after such a long lay-off, and no tune-up bout in between, even his most passionate and adoring supporters were shocked when Spence was chosen as the comeback opponent.
One man not surprised in the slightest was Hall of Fame trainer Roach – who has cornered Pacquiao against the greatest fighters over two decades.
But that was during PacMan’s prime, as they now enter uncharted territory in their 37th fight together.
Roach said: “Manny has fought a lot of good fighters, he’s fought better fighters than Spence along the way, but he wasn’t 42 back then.
“This opponent is a little bit flat-footed, but he’s a big puncher and someone we can’t stay in the pocket with. We’ve got to box and stay smart.
“But Manny’s work ethic is still there, he works his ass off everyday, he trains hard. He’s getting better and better as training camp goes on.”

And The Iceman admits he’s somewhat intrigued by the prospect of testing himself inside the fast-growing organisation.
When asked if he’d open to stepping into the BKFC ring, Liddell said: “It would all have to depend.
“We’d have to talk about it. Yeah, if they pay enough money, sure. It all depends on what they come up with.
“We can talk about it. If they’re interested come and talk to me.”
Liddell has already been in contact with BKFC chief Dave Feldman, although the UFC Hall-of-Famer refused to reveal if those talks were over a potential fight.
Liddell, 51, hasn’t fought since losing his trilogy fight with bitter rival Tito Ortiz three years ago.
The Californian locked horns with Ortiz at the inaugural Golden Boy Promotions MMA event, which he went into on the back of three consecutive KO losses.
The sanctioning of the bout enraged UFC president Dana White, a long-time friend of Liddell’s.
He said: “Chuck Liddell is almost 50 years old and has no business fighting anymore.

Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum desperate for Anthony Joshua fight in UK and insists Eddie Hearn never struck Saudi deal

PROMOTER Bob Arum is desperate for Tyson Fury to face Anthony Joshua in the UK – and insisted they never had a prior Saudi Arabia deal. The heavyweight pair looked all but-confirmed to fight on August 14 in the Middle East – until it was scrapped at the 11th hour.

It came as Deontay Wilder won his right to a trilogy bout with Fury, leaving the historic undisputed title up in smoke.
Wilder will instead rematch his heavyweight rival once more on October 9, while AJ fights mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.
But if both champion’s prevail, Fury’s Hall of Fame US promoter Arum wants to see the Battle of Britain played out on home soil.
He told Sky Sports: “My hope is that the fight goes to the UK. I don’t care what the money is.
“Both fighters owe the UK fans this tremendous event at Wembley or Cardiff, rather than taking it to a foreign country.”
Opposing promoter Eddie Hearn, who largely led the talks for Joshua to face Fury, recently revealed February is now the most likely date for them to potentially fight.
My hope is that the fight goes to the UK. I don’t care what the money is.Arum on Fury vs AJ
Arum said: “The problem with Eddie? He cannot stop talking.
“When he says February? He is saying the fight will happen next year which is clearly correct.
“Joshua is fighting in September, we are fighting in October. Obviously [Joshua vs Fury] will take place next year.
“But February, March or April? That remains to be seen.”
Fury, 32, beat Wilder, 35, in February 2020, two years after they drew, but the rematch included a contracted trilogy.
But that was postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic and the Gypsy King tried to walk away from the obligation, believing the stipulation expired.
    ‘IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN’
Wilder then took his case to arbitration and was awarded the verdict, setting up a second rematch between the pair.
But it meant Hearn’s months of negotiations to finalise a deal for the first-ever, four-belt heavyweight unification, collapsed.
Former lawyer Arum argued nothing was ever finalised and as a result, part of the reason they lost their mediation case.
He explained: “We had the fight rolling. The central elements had been taken care of. There were no problems, really, on the deal.
“Why did the deal stall and not get finalised? In my opinion, overreaching. We were all in line: ‘OK, do the fight in Saudi Arabia’.
“If we had struck a deal with the Saudis, the arbitrator would not have [ruled for Fury to fight Wilder instead].

Floyd Mayweather’s Brit fiancee Anna Monroe posts string of cryptic messages with relationship ‘in limbo’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER’s British fiancee has posted ominous messages as pals say their love is hanging by a thread after he was pictured with his arm around an ex-girlfriend. Anna Monroe’s string of posts included “can’t be sneaky around me” and a picture with the words “you are only as pretty as you treat people”.

Anna Monroe posted messages that cold be seen as cryptic or a warning to partner Floyd Mayweather
The messages come days after boxing legend Mayweather – nicknamed Pretty Boy – was snapped with former partner Gallienne Nabila in New York City.
The pair strolled around the Big Apple – Nabila wearing a large diamond ring – while stripper Anna was more than 2,500 miles away in Las Vegas.
A friend said: “Floyd hasn’t seen Anna in a couple of weeks and the pictures of him and Gallienne took her by surprise.
“He’s friends with lots of his exes but right now Anna is in limbo and waiting to speak to him when he gets back.”
Former five-weight world champion Mayweather, who dated model Nabila in 2019, was snapped in New York’s iconic Fifth Avenue, also known as Millionaire’s Row.
The luxurious street is a fitting spot for the 44-year-old, who is boxing’s highest-grossing PPV star ever.
Social media star Gallienne, who boasts over 576,000 followers on Instagram, also uploaded a picture of herself enjoying an ice cream.

A social media plea from Anna Monroe could hit home
This was another of Anna Monroe’s string of posts that might make uncomfortable reading for Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather and Gallienne later got into one of his three SUVs before heading off in a convoy.
Meanwhile, the undefeated icon’s partner Anna is currently taking in the sights in Las Vegas.
The 29-year-old posted shots from the Red Rock Canyon in Nevada with the caption: “Love it here.”
SunSport revealed last month how Mayweather raced to reunite with Anna hours after drawing against Logan Paul in their controversial exhibition bout.

The 1996 Olympic bronze medallist booted Anna out of their mansion as he went into ‘full fight mode’ for his dust-up with social media celebrity Paul at the Hard Rock Stadium.
But sources at the time claimed that the pair were set to enjoy a holiday and might even wed by the end of this year.
Mayweather is thought to have proposed to Anna – lead dancer at his Las Vegas club Girl Collection – shortly after news of their relationship was revealed by The Sun earlier this year.

Deontay Wilder’s co-manager was ‘shocked’ no step aside offer was ever made to allow Tyson Fury to fight Anthony Joshua

DEONTAY WILDER not being offered step aside money to allow Tyson Fury to fight Anthony Joshua ‘shocked’ the American’s co-manager. Wilder was beaten by Fury in February 2020, two years after they drew, but the rematch included a contracted trilogy bout.

But as the coronavirus pandemic postponed the fight, the Gypsy King tried to walk away from the obligation, believing the stipulation expired.
He then agreed terms to fight AJ in Saudi Arabia in August, all while Wilder took his right to an immediate rematch to arbitration.
And after he won at the 11th hour, Fury’s historic undisputed title decider was scrapped as he was ordered to instead fight his US heavyweight rival.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn hit out at the WBC champion’s camp for not trying to find a financial settlement which would keep Wilder sidelined.
And even his co-manager Shelly Finkel was surprised there was no effort made to preserve Fury’s unification with AJ.
Finkel told SunSport: “We were shocked and our lawyers said they were shocked from their side that they made no effort before we won the case.
“They first tried to vacate the lawsuit and they lost.
“But there was nothing from their side, which I thought was short sighted. But that’s their choice.”
I pay in ass whoopings that’s what I’ll give himTyson Fury on paying Wilder step-aside money
Fury, 32, has since revealed he opted to fight Wilder, 35, as he refused to give the ex-heavyweight champ a penny.
He told The Athletic in May: “The guy is a sucker I wouldn’t give him £20,000 I pay in ass whoopings that’s what I’ll give him.
“I’m not interested in giving anyone any money, they’ve got to earn it like I did the hard way by fighting the best of the best.
“Until then they are getting ass whoopings from me. No step-aside money.
“I wouldn’t give him one million dollars to step-aside, I wouldn’t give him a hundred grand, I’d rather give him these big fists in the face.”
Finkel, speaking before the trilogy was postponed, admits being given the fight is a better result than receiving a payout – as it gives them the chance to take back control.
He said: “We were fine with it, then, when it got closer and we won the summary judgement, we didn’t care, we wanted the fight.
    ‘IN DEONTAY’S HANDS’
“Here’s the thing that people miss; people say to us, ‘Why wouldn’t you take a step aside?’
“Because, if we had and Fury lost, we may never have got a title shot and the leverage that Eddie Hearn and Joshua would have had at that point, we wouldn’t have had a fair shot.
“Now, it’s up to us, it’s in Deontay’s hands that night and if he prevails, which I think he will, then it’s a whole different ball game.
“Deontay’s back as champion, and we’ll see what happens.”
Fury pulled out of their scheduled rematch on July 24 with coronavirus leaving the trilogy postponed to October 9.
But beforehand, he claimed Wilder wanted $20MILLION to let him fight Joshua, 31, for all the heavyweight marbles.
Finkel, though, suggests otherwise and maintained they made no demands to step aside – as no concrete offer was made in the first place.
He explained: “He’s not telling the truth at all.

    WILDER VS JOSHUA?
“There was never a discussion. Frank [Warren], at one point said to me, ‘Would you guys take a seven-figure walk away?’
“And I said, ‘No’. And that was it. That was the only discussion and effort.”
Wilder’s legal win leaves Joshua instead facing mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk, 34, on September 25 at Tottenham’s stadium.
But should AJ prevail, as well as Wilder, Finkel is hopeful it could finally see the pair fight after years of prior failed talks.

He said: “First things first, we have to only think about this fight.
“But if Joshua is successful, I believe he probably will be. Although it’s a fight with Usyk I just think Joshua’s size will be the difference.
“Putting that aside at this point, where is Joshua going to go for a big fight if we’re the champion and he wants to unify it?
“So, logically it would be, but logic doesn’t work in this sport.”
