And instead, the co-main event between Chinese sensation Xu Can and Nottingham’s Leigh Wood for the WBA ‘Regular’ featherweight title will fill in.
When is Xu Can vs Leigh Wood?

Xu Can’s big clash with the tough and hard-hitting Leigh Wood will take place on Saturday, July 31.
The fight will take place in Brentwood, Essex at Matchroom HQ in the back garden.
There will be around 300 fans in attendance at the bout, with those supporters having shelled out ÂŁ750 each for a ticket.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

For the first time ever, a boxing event held in the UK will be shown on DAZN, which launched in Great Britain back in January.
Promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom left Sky Sports joined up with DAZN UK on a five-year multi-million pound deal.
The action will begin on DAZN from 7pm UK time, with the main event expected at around 10.30pm UK time.
You can live stream the event from the DAZN app, which is available for download onto your mobile device, tablet or Smart TV.

“We have Leigh Wood, we don’t really know how good this guy is. He came up short against [James] Dickens.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury told they want to ‘avoid’ feared Arslanbek Makhmudov who would ‘make Wembley tremble’

TYSON FURY and Anthony Joshua have been fired a warning to avoid ‘the most feared heavyweight in the world’. That came from Russian boxer Arslanbek Makhmudov’s promoter Camille Estephan, who says his man has ‘a punch that could make the Wembley stadium tremble’.
Arslanbek Makhmudov is ready to shake up boxing’s heavyweight division
Joshua is preparing to face former unified cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk on September 4.
Meanwhile Fury will have his trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder on October 9, after the original July date was shelved when the Brit contracted coronavirus.
But Makhmudov is finding it difficult to get opponents – probably something to do with his fearsome record.
The 32-year-old has knocked out all 11 of his opponents so far – with only one boxer lasting more than three rounds.
And promoter Estephan believes the Russian has the tools to shock the world by BEATING Fury or Joshua.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I believe Arslanbek has the type of punch that is not just heavy but quite explosive. Truly the kind of punch that could put anyone to sleep.
“We’re looking for the titles and all the roads that lead to the world titles, which is our ultimate goal.
“[There is] so much action in the UK at heavyweight that we are certainly open to fight there.
“We think he’s ready. It’s a matter of making it through the ranks. Arslanbek is not the type of fighter who is likely to be invited by one of the champions.
“Currently we say he’s the most feared heavyweight in the world.
“We believe Arslanbek has a punch that could make Wembley Stadium tremble so we are more than sure most heavyweights already fear him.”

Makhmudov needed just 30 seconds to dispatch Pavel Sour in his last fight on July 23.
He has also KO’d former world title challenger Samuel Peter in the first round.
And the boxer echoes his promoter’s comments that he can go all the way.
The Mozdok-born bruiser added: “I am ready to face anyone. My goal is to become heavyweight champion of the world and I want to face the best in my division.”

Whittaker, 24, is guaranteed at least a bronze medal but is hellbent on becoming the man of the town by bringing gold back to the West Midlands.
After getting past Machado, Whittaker said: “I knew this would be a hard fight.
“I am a confident, arrogant lad and I am not going to lie, this morning I felt a bit weird.
“My legs felt heavy and my stomach was twisting.
“But I listened to the corner and the tactics were great. It doesn’t matter whether it was a split or unanimous.
“Sunday is where it gets real now. I want to go back home with the gold medal and become the Mayor of Wolverhampton!
“I want one of those nice chains on my neck, calling all the shots.

“Everyone in Wolverhampton will have a nice ice grill and a nice big chain, courtesy of Ben Whittaker.”
Whittaker, a bronze medallist in the 2019 World Championships, was overcome with emotion after booking his place in the semis.
He said: “I have been crying like a baby.
“It was weird. Everyone has heard me for the last week and the last month saying a bronze is nothing, silver is nothing. I truly did mean that.
“But when the win came, I had a roar and a little celebration and then it hit me: ‘You know what you’ve done, Ben? You know what you’ve done?
“All those years I have watched the Olympics, all those years I have been in the gym with Olympians and they tell you their story.

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk at risk as Eddie Hearn fears ALL boxing could be scrapped due to coronavirus outbreak

EDDIE HEARN has admitted Anthony Joshua’s fight with Oleksandr Usyk could be scrapped due to coronavirus. The promoter’s second installment of his Fight Camp will start tomorrow but it is without it’s headline clash.

Anthony Joshua will put his world titles on the line on September 25 at Tottenham’s groundCredit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
Conor Benn failed a coronavirus test this week ahead of his bout with Adrian Granados, forcing him out of action.
The show, which is staged at Matchroom HQ with only 300 fans, will go on without causing any major financial implications.
However, Hearn admits he is worried about the September 25 heavyweight title showdown between AJ and the Ukrainian at Tottenham due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
He said: “You can’t insure against Covid – it’s very difficult to do unless you want to pay an extortionate premium.
“The only thing is, guys like Joshua and Usyk, they have teams of people that are testing them every day.”
Joshua has already had Covid and Hearn is confident the Brit still has antibodies.
Fortunately this week’s outbreak was contained due to Benn not staying in the hotel fight bubble.
Hearn said: “You have to think realistically, we’re going to one a week. But obviously it being the main event is an extra kick in the nuts.
“I don’t know the answer. I know a dozen people who have Covid who are double vaccinated… it doesn’t matter.
“If a fully-vaccinated person fails a Covid test, he can’t fight.”

Hearn added: “Conor was booked in for his vaccine after this fight – a lot of fighters don’t want to have it during camp because they’re worried about feeling rough for three or four days… Campbell Hatton is another one. He said ‘Mine is on Monday’.
“The reality is, if Conor Benn hadn’t tested, he would have boxed… people start saying, ‘Why are the fighters still testing when there is no requirement?’. But it is the right decision.
“Conor was lik,: ‘I’m fine’… I said: ‘Mate you could go four rounds and have a f****** heart attack… you just don’t know.’”

Luke Campbell retires from boxing aged 33 after stellar career including Olympic gold medal and world title fights

LIGHTWEIGHT Luke Campbell has retired from professional boxing aged 33.The British star became Olympic and Commonwealth champion during his glittering career, finishing with a 20-4 pro record.

Confirming his retirement in an emotional statement, Campbell said: “After a lot of thought and reflection, I have decided that now is the right time to hang-up my gloves and retire from boxing.
“As soon as I first stepped into St. Paul’s Amateur Boxing Club in Hull, my dream was always to win the Olympics.
“By winning gold at London 2012, in front of home support and my family, I had in many ways already achieved my hopes and aspirations in the sport before my professional career even started.
“So, while for many turning pro is where it all begins, for me it was more of a bonus and what a bonus it turned out to be, achieving more than I ever expected and giving me memories I will never forget.
“From making my debut at Craven Park, to fighting at Wembley, beating domestic rivals, competing against pound-for-pound stars in America and here in the UK, headlining pay-per-views and always willing to take on anybody.
    “It’s been an incredible ride.”
    THE NEARLY WORLD CHAMP
Campbell’s retirement ends a tremendous amateur and professional career, losing his final fight to American Ryan Garcia in January.
The Hull star’s breakthrough came in 2008, becoming European champion before picking up a silver medal at the world championships three years later.
Campbell’s greatest moment came in 2012, when he defeated John Joe Nevin to win the bantamweight title at the London Olympics.
He turned pro a year later and enjoyed a stellar start, winning 12 consecutive fights before suffering a surprise loss to Yvan Mendy in 2015.
Campbell bounced back from that defeat to stop British rival Gary Sykes and win the Commonwealth title in his next fight.
He later won the WBC silver lightweight title to earn a shot at becoming world champ, losing an agonising split decision to Jorge Linares in 2017.
It’s been an incredible ride.Luke Campbell
Redemption against Mendy followed a year later before a second world title fight against Vasyl Lomachenko in 2019, losing by unanimous decision.
Garcia became the first man to stop Campbell professionally, ensuring he retires with a 20-4 professional record.
Campbell added: “The past year in boxing though has been tough.
“An extremely long training camp away from family meant I was only able to spend a few days with my newborn child and also resulted in me having Christmas apart from them on the other side of the world.
“It’s in these moments that you realise what is truly important in life. I’ve lived my dreams and accomplished more than I ever imagined I would.

“In the same way that my dad was able to witness my greatest achievements, I want to be able to do that for my children and make sure I’m always there to see their biggest triumphs.
“Boxing has been a part of who I am since the age of 13 and I would not have been able to reach half the heights I have without the incredible support of my wife Lyndsey, who has been with me every step and every punch of the way.
“I cannot wait to spend more time with you and our three beautiful boys. And now for the next chapter, I’m excited to get started.”

Deontay Wilder posts cryptic message about ‘Covid lie’ and says ‘they’re going to hell’ after Tyson Fury bout postponed

DEONTAY WILDER has told Tyson Fury he is ‘going to hell’ for the ‘Covid-19 lie’.The two heavyweights will now fight on October 9 after their original July date had to be postponed when Fury caught coronavirus.
Deontay Wilder, standing with his coach Malik Scott, has accused Tyson Fury of a ‘Covid-19 lie’Credit: Instagram @bronzebomber
Wilder, however, appears to doubt whether the Brit really caught the disease in his latest Instagram post.
Standing on the ring apron with his lead coach Malik Scott, Wilder posted: “Yo bro, @malikkingscott say it ain’t so
 not the Covid-19 lie.
“They’re going to hell for that one!!! Oct 9th can not come any faster.”
He then added ‘This will be easy’ as a hash tag.
It is not the first time the American has raised eyebrows with some wild claims.
After he was battered by Fury in February 2020 some of the excuses used were that his drink was spiked, that his ringwalk suit was ‘too heavy’ and that he was carrying an injury.
And Wilder is not the only party unhappy with Team Fury.
The Gypsy King’s own promoter Bob Arum has described the postponement of the Wilder trilogy fight as ‘a complete f*** up’.

The Gypsy King, who is now back in the gym, had only had one vaccine jab before getting the disease -Arum was led to believe his fighter had received TWO shots.
Speaking to World Boxing News, the 89-year-old said: “I never knew that he hadn’t [got the second one] until he got sick.
“I really screamed at all of them. It was a complete f*** up. The people in the gym, I mean, we had no controls. It was like every sparring partner brought his friend, other corner people.
“[Trainer] SugarHill [Steward] had these Russians [he trains] running around. There was absolutely no precaution taken, which a lot of it was our fault.
“We should have been the adult in the room.”

Arum went on to add that he does not know if Fury has had his second vaccine shot yet.
But the legendary American promoter went on to praise Wilder and his team for how they protected themselves against Covid-19.
He added: “They did the right thing, and they’re to be commended, and we didn’t do the right thing.
“We were operating in the haze that the pandemic was over.”

Anthony Joshua tipped to box until he is at least 36 as Eddie Hearn reveals Brit suddenly asked him about retirement

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been backed by Eddie Hearn to continue fighting until at least 36 – having suddenly asked about retirement. At 31, Joshua is already an Olympic gold medalist, two-time unified heavyweight champion and global superstar.
Anthony Joshua pictured with promoter Eddie HearnCredit: Mark Robinson
And there could be plenty more to come with AJ tipped to carry on for a minimum of five years after asking his promoter about the future.
Hearn told takSPORT: “He said to me the other day, ‘How long do you think I should fight for?’
“He’s a very deep thinker, very intelligent, self-educated.
“And he just messaged me the other day and said, ‘How long do you think I should fight for?’ I said, ‘For how long you have the love for the sport.’
“Because it’s such a dangerous sport, the minute you start fighting without desire, just for the money, you have to stop this game.
“Because it’s too dangerous without that will and drive every day.
“But he is so driven and I think he has so much more, so many more improvements to make.
    ‘HE’S OBSESSED WITH THE SPORT’
“It’ll always be him who calls time, but I don’t see him going anywhere for five years minimum.
“He loves what he does, but it’s also a huge sacrifice on the body, on the mind, to family.
“He’s so driven, he doesn’t have time for that. He’s such a big family man, but he’s so obsessed with the sport – it’s all he does.”
Joshua has previously spoke about heading towards the end of his career and compared it to an Olympic-cycle, with the next Games set for 2024.
His fierce rival Tyson Fury, 32, once revealed he would hang the gloves up right after beating Deontay Wilder, 35, again and then AJ.
But in May last year, the unbeaten Gypsy King made a U-turn and said he could fight well into his 40s – like Wladimir Klitschko, now 44, famously did.
Fury told ESPN at the time: “I’m going to fight on until I’m 40 years old. I’ve been thinking about it, and there isn’t much else to do anyways.
“So yeah, I may as well keep fighting. I don’t see anyone out there that can challenge me anyway.”

Wilder, who drew with Fury in 2018 but lost the rematch two years later, faces the Brit in a trilogy bout on October 9.
Meanwhile, AJ faces mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk, 34, on September 25 at Tottenham’s stadium.
But Joshua’s promoter Hearn and Fury’s Bob Arum are both hopeful an all-British unification could be salvaged afterwards if they both win.

Canelo Alvarez called out by former promoter Oscar De La Hoya, 48, as he taunts champ for ‘only having power’

OSCAR DE LA HOYA wants to fight Canelo Alvarez and taunted that his former Golden Boy star has ‘only power’. The promoter worked with Canelo from 2010 until the Mexican superstar terminated his Golden Boy contract last year.
Oscar De La Hoya with his former fighter Canelo AlvarezCredit: Getty
It saw their relationship turn sour, so much so that De La Hoya has called out the four-division champion.
And he takes confidence from the fact Canelo, 31, lacks the same speed that Manny Pacquiao posses and ultimately sent him into retirement in 2008.
He said: “Why not? Why not? It’s only power. That’s all it is. Power I can withstand.
“Speed, like Pacquiao, is a whole different story. Power, power – I have a good chin.”
De La Hoya, 48, made the astonishing comments at the press conference to promote his comeback fight against Vitor Belfort, 44, set for September 11.
The pair were initially set to box in an exhibition bout, but it will now be a professionally sanctioned contest at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
It has been approved by the California State Athletic Commission.
    DE LA HOYA’S COMEBACK TRAIL
But it is subject to De La Hoya and and Belfort passing comprehensive medical testing for 40-year-old-plus fighters.
It includes an MRA and MRI of the brain, an EKG, cardiac testing, neurocognitive testing and an ophthalmologic exam.
The bout will be contested over eight two-minute rounds, despite regular pro boxing being fought over three-minute rounds.
It will also be at 180 pounds, but De La Hoya and Belfort can weigh within five pounds of the limit.
Triller will promote the event as part of their ‘Fight Club’ banner, which has also featured YouTuber Jake Paul, 24, and Mike Tyson, 55, previously.
De La Hoya, a six-weight world champion, retired after his one-sided loss to fellow legend Pacquiao, who is still fighting aged 42.
In the 13 years since, he has focussed on his Golden Boy promotions banner.

But after watching Mike Tyson, 55, come out of retirement after 15 years, later drawing in an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr, 52, it inspired De La Hoya.
Belfort, who won UFC gold in 2004, last fought in MMA three years ago, losing to Lyoto Machida, 43.
But the Brazilian – who is 1-0 as a boxer winning his debut in 2006 – recently linked up with Triller to pursue boxing.
