Frazer Clarke boxing bout STOPPED as Team GB star is left with blood pouring from horror cut at Tokyo Olympics

FRAZER CLARKE’S Olympics came to an unfortunate end this morning courtesy of a horrific cut – but the Team GB star still managed to secure a bronze medal. The 29-year-old locked horns with Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov in the super-heavyweight semi-finals early this morning.

But the horrific cuts he suffered in his quarter-final clash with Mourad Aliev last week came back to haunt him as the referee waved off the contest in the third round.
A dejected Clarke protested the ref’s decision to call off the contest.
But the official made the right call as the laceration above the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion’s right eye was gaping.
Clarke was outboxed by the bruising southpaw in the opening round, which he lost on all of the judges’ scorecards.
But the Burton brawler came roaring back in the second, landing a big straight right that wobbled the Uzbek.
The referee gave Jalolov a standing eight count, much to the frustration of the 27-year-old.
Clarke’s wobbling of Jalolov, however, didn’t impress the judges – with four of them scoring the second in the Ubzebk’s favour.
Clarke’s pre-fight cuts were opened up moments before the end of the stanza and sparked concern from his corner.
The cutmen did their best to stem the bleeding, particularly from the gash above his right eyebrow.
The ref, surprisingly, opted not to wave off the contest after checking the cuts late in the second.

But he called an end to the bout after seeing the sickening injuries worsen moments after the final restart.
BBC commentator Steve Bunce was stunned by the ref’s decision not to stop the fight earlier, saying: ‘That cut is disgraceful.
“That cut would stop any fight in any decade in the world, it’s a 30 stitch cut – it looks like he’s been bitten by a shark!”
After the fight, a heartbroken Clarke said: “It’s not the fairytale that I wanted.
“But I’m proud of myself. I gave a great effort.
“The last six months of my life, I made more sacrifices than in the last 18 years when it comes to boxing.
“To get in there with one of the best, it’s a pleasure for me, an honour for me.

Deontay Wilder’s ‘legs are weak’ and he ‘isn’t firm on his feet’ says Russian boxer who KO’d him 13 years ago

DEONTAY WILDER’S ‘legs are weak’ and he ‘isn’t firm on his feet’, according to the Russian boxer who KO’d him 13 years ago.Evgeny Romanov was famously the last person to knock out the Bronze Bomber prior to his stoppage defeat to Tyson Fury last year.

The pair locked horns in the amateur ranks back in 2008, when Wilder was walloped pillar to post on the way to his first-ever KO loss.
Romanov, having trailed the first round 4-2, found an answer for everything in the second and soon began to dominate.
A strong right had Wilder reeling and he was forced to take a standing count while the 36-year-old went 10-7 up on points.
Another huge right in the third and final round sent the American to the canvas and the ref ended the bout with just under a minute remaining.
Romanov has now reflected on the clash 13 years later and he admitted Wilder has since risen to the top and is a very different fighter.
Yet the Russian claimed the deposed WBC champion still has weak spots that Fury could target again in the third meeting between the pair.
Romanov told RT: “It was a long time ago. I honestly don’t think much of it. Wilder was different then than he is now. I was different too.
I know that Wilder isn’t firm on his feet, you can see that when you watch him on TVEvgeny Romanov
“Today’s a different time, Wilder’s at the top and I’m on my way there.
“Back then it was maybe the other way round, so I don’t want to remember or think of it.”
Regarding Wilder’s ‘weak spots’, Romanov added: “I’m not sure about weak spots but I know his legs are weak.
“As far as where to hit, I don’t know. You have to watch for that when you walk in the ring with him.
“I know that Wilder isn’t firm on his feet, you can see that when you watch him on TV.”

When asked if he was annoyed that Fury had taken his record as the last man to stop Wilder, he said: “Honestly, I’m never envious.
“Anything can happen, anyone can fall, so I never envy anyone.
“I’m a boxer myself and know exactly what it is.”

Tommy Fury says he will send Jake Paul ‘crying again’ like Floyd Mayweather did if YouTuber steals his hat in America

TOMMY FURY said he will send Jake Paul ‘crying again’ if the YouTuber tries to steal his hat in America – like he did with Floyd Mayweather. Paul grabbed headlines in May after he nicked the boxing legend’s cap at a press conference in Miami, sparking a mass brawl.

The social media sensation took a blow from Mayweather for his troubles but brilliantly had ‘gotcha cap’ trending and even made into merchandise.
But Fury warned it will end it tears if Paul tries the stunt again when they both fight on the same bill Stateside on August 29.
He said: “I’ll hit him with a left hook like Floyd Mayweather and send him crying again.
“He got a little bit of a shot around the eye and he went off in the changing room crying with a red face.
“I know exactly what he’s about. This here is a thrill seeking night for me. I’m going to go over there, enjoy it and take it with both hands.”
Paul, 24, pranked Mayweather, 44, before his older brother Logan, 26, faced the American great in an exhibition bout on June 6.
That ended without a winner, after Logan surprisingly survived all eight rounds, and technically avoided defeat as there was no knockout scored.
“He got a little bit of a shot around the eye and he went off in the changing room crying with a red face. Tommy Fury on Jake Paul’s brawl with Floyd Mayweather
On the week of the bizarre pay-per-view spectacle, it was announced Paul would fight Tyron Woodley, 39, in his fourth professional bout.
He will meet the ex-UFC champion in his home of Cleveland, with Fury, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson, on the undercard.
The 2019 Love Island star has signed a two-fight deal with US broadcasters Showtime, who also have Paul on their books.
It allows the pair to begin building to an expected PPV fight of their own down the line.
Paul considered Fury for his return to the ring after knocking out retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37, in April.
But he feared the Brit’s profile Stateside needed enhancing, which has set up the light-heavyweight with a spot on next month’s event.
‘TALK’S CHEAP AT THE END OF THE DAY’
He will face MMA fighter Anthony Taylor – a sparring partner of Paul’s – only adding fuel to the fire.
Taylor, 32, has been in Puerto Rico with Paul training together and the pair recently filmed a callout video.
In the clip, the Bellator lightweight said he would KO ‘Tommy Fairy’ and told his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague: ‘Come to my Love Island’.
But Fury was unfazed by the trash talk – believing Taylor is just enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.
He said: “Talking is talking. Talk’s cheap at the end of the day.
“You can talk as much as you want but when you get into the ring, what’s it going to do for him then?

“He’s never going to get this opportunity again so he’s going to take it with both hands and he’s going to say, ‘I’m going to knock him out’.

Floyd Mayweather, 44, called out by 18-0 Bellator MMA star AJ McKee who aims cheeky dig at Logan and Jake Paul

After scooping the prize, which netted him a whopping £719,166, Mckee revealed his dream to go toe-to-toe with Mayweather in the boxing ring.
Mckee, who boasts an impressive unbeaten record of 18-0 in MMA, thinks fighting Mayweather, who’s 50-0 in boxing, would be the best of the two fighting worlds coming together.
Mckee told Sky Sports that he’d have a lot of respect for Mayweather if he accepted his challenge.
He said: “I would have a lot of respect for him, straight up.
“I’m the best at my sport. He’s the best at his sport.
“I would just enjoy sharing that moment with him.”
But the 26-year-old couldn’t resist referencing Floyd’s age and said that going up against him would be like fighting his dad, who he’s protective over.
He quipped: “He’s like my dad! I call my dad ‘my antique’. If you go hard with my antique in the gym? I will [mess] you up.
“Be careful because if you hurt my antique we’ve got a problem.”
    PAUL THE OTHER ONE
During his rant Mckee also took aim at YouTube stars Jake and Logan Paul, with the latter having fought Mayweather in an exhibition bout in June.
Logan went the full eight rounds with the self-proclaimed best boxer of all-time but Mckee dismissed him and Jake as fame-hunters.
Mckee added: “These younger guys who aren’t in the sport? They have something to prove.
“I don’t have anything to prove in boxing against Floyd.
“It’s just me wanting to be acknowledged as the best in my sport and sharing a moment with a great from another sport.

PAT McCORMACK suffered a convincing defeat in his Olympic welterweight final – to take the shine off a record-breaking day for Britain’s boxers. The Sunderland slugger had been the top seed but he was outclassed by Cuban Roniel Iglesias, the London 2012 gold medallist, who won by unanimous decision.

McCormack, 26, was floored by a left hook in the second round – which was harshly ruled a slip – and had to settle for a silver medal to end his amateur career.
The Brit – whose twin brother Luke had been defeated by another Cuban at these Tokyo Games – had been gifted a walkover in the semi-final after Irishman Aidan Walsh withdrew through injury.
But Galal Yafai secured an historic sixth British Olympic boxing medal of the Tokyo Games with a frenetic display to defeat Cuban former world champion Yosbany Veitia in the flyweight quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old Birmingham fighter pummeled the Cuban relentlessly from start to finish to earn the decisions of four out of five judges.
With losing semi-finalists guaranteed a bronze medal, Yafai ensured the best medals tally for a British Olympic boxing team in more than a century.
Yafai said: “It feels nice to get a medal, the sixth one for GB.
“I’m rooming with (super-heavyweight) Frazer Clarke who is in the semi-final and (light-heavyweight) Ben Whittaker who’s in the final.
“I didn’t want to go home with nothing, I had to make sure I got a medal.”

Yafai – the brother of former WBA world super-flyweight champion Kal – had scored a shock victory over the canny Veitia at the 2019 World Championships.
And the tough little Brummie repeated the trick in Tokyo with a tireless display, never allowing Veitia to settle and unfortunate not to secure a unanimous decision.
Earlier Caroline Dubois – the 20-year-old sister of heavyweight pro Daniel – missed out on a women’s lightweight medal with an agonising 3-2 defeat against experienced Thai Sudaporn Seesondee.

Taylor is a sparring partner of Paul’s and currently in training camp with the YouTuber in Puerto Rico.
And the pair filmed a callout video together, where Fury’s girlfriend Molly-Mae was once more dragged into the firing line.
Paul, 24, said: “Official, Tommy Fury added to the card, August 29th, he’s fighting my boy, my sparring partner, Anthony Taylor.
Taylor, 32, interrupted: “What’s up, it’s Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor. Tommy Fairy, I’m coming to knock you out.”
    Paul them asked: “Tommy Fairy?”
Taylor replied: “Absolutely, Molly-Mae – come to my Love Island.”
Paul faces ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, in his fourth and toughest fight to date in his home of Cleveland.
He comes into the bout 3-0 all by knockout, having beaten internet rival ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and most recently retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37.

Tyson Fury’s promoter says Anthony Joshua is NOT an ‘elite heavyweight’ after being KOd by ‘non-puncher’ Andy Ruiz Jr

BOB ARUM claimed Anthony Joshua is NOT an ‘elite heavyweight’ after being knocked out by ‘non-puncher’ Andy Ruiz Jr. AJ was stunned by underdog Ruiz in June 2019, who four times floored the Brit before winning in round seven.

Promoter Bob Arum pictured with Tyson FuryCredit: Getty Images – Getty
But Joshua brilliantly outboxed the unlikely champion in the rematch six months later to win back his unified heavyweight titles.
Despite the rematch result, Tyson Fury’s US promoter Arum said AJ’s initial upset loss still lives long in the memory.
He told journalist Gareth A Davies: “I’m not thrilled with Joshua.
“I don’t think much of Joshua, because every time the name Joshua is mentioned, I see him laying on the canvas after getting hit by a non-puncher like Andy Ruiz.
“I’m telling you the truth. I may be underestimating Joshua, but I’m not convinced that Joshua is an elite heavyweight.”
Arum had been working with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn to negotiate an undisputed title decider between the heavyweight superstars.
And terms looked all but-agreed for August 14 in the Middle East – until it was scrapped at the 11th hour.
This is no disrespect to him, Anthony Joshua means next to nothing in the United States with the boxing community. Bob Arum on Anthony Joshua
It came as Deontay Wilder won his right to a trilogy bout with Fury, leaving the historic, four-belt undisputed fight up in smoke.
Wilder will instead rematch his heavyweight rival once more on October 9, while AJ fights mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.
If both champion’s prevail, Hall of Famer Arum is ready to start discussions for the all-English unification again.
But he warned Fury’s trilogy with Wilder is a bigger deal Stateside and once again referenced Joshua’s only career defeat to date.
Arum said: “This is no disrespect to him, Anthony Joshua means next to nothing in the United States with the boxing community.
“All they remember of Anthony Joshua is his one fight in the United States where he got knocked out by a non-puncher like Andy Ruiz, that view of Anthony Joshua will not change easily.
“So, if Anthony Joshua fought Tyson Fury in the United States, it wouldn’t do nearly as well as Tyson Fury’s upcoming fight with Deontay Wilder.

But the Irishman, nursing a broken tibia, admitted he will not be able to commit to the bout next month as he targeted a later date.
McGregor tweeted: “Guys, the September date is too early for me. I am still in recovery.
“My docs/physical therapy team out here advice me to stay. I reckon late October at earliest.
“But maybe November/December too. It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please!”
The event has been set up by comedian Stevo Timothy, who will face double Olympic champion Paddy Barnes in a wheelchair bout to headline.
All the proceeds will be donated to the Irish Wheelchair Association, a leading service provider for people with physical disabilities.

He posted: “Give me time guys, I’m in! Just need to focus on this recovery for the next while first before I can commit to a date!
“Have some cool things planned for event tho!”
McGregor, 33, was due to box funny man Foran in a regular bout until he suffered a horror leg break in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, 32.
The pair headlined UFC 264 on July 10, but it ended in chaos when he broke his tibia seconds before the end of round one.
