Frank Warren’s five must-see fights for British fans including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois

FRANK WARREN has promoted some of the biggest fights in British boxing history during his Hall of Fame career. But he still has big plans yet for his current crop of stars.

With mega-title unifications, rematches and world championship fights to be made, the promoter has plenty still to offer fans.
Here, he has picked his five must-see fights, and SunSport will help explain what makes them so special.
    Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua
It’s the obvious one we all want, and nearly had.
Warren worked alongside Fury’s US promoter and Joshua’s representative Eddie Hearn and terms were all-but agreed for August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
But the Gypsy King’s attempt to walk away from his contracted trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder was unsuccessful, as they rematch again on October 9.
Joshua instead fights Oleksandr Usyk, but the all-British undisputed title decider will be re-visited – so long as the superstar pair both prevail.

Lyndon Arthur vs Anthony Yarde 2
Arthur outboxed Londoner Yarde in November to keep his Commonwealth title on a split-decision.
It proved a tense affair, not quite catching fire like many predicted, but remained in the balance until the final bell.
Arthur was the winner in the eyes of most, but Yarde was just a few shots each round away from turning the tables.
It has set them up perfectly for a rematch, targeted for October, with the winner in line to challenge for the WBO light-heavyweight title.

    Daniel Dubois vs Trevor Bryan
Dubois bounced back from his first career defeat to Joe Joyce by knocking out Bogdan Dinu in the first round of their June fight.
It also earned him the WBA ‘interim’ title, moving him one step closer to a shot at Joshua’s crown.
But also eyed is Bryan’s secondary WBA ‘Regular’ belt, which would firmly place Dubois in world title contention.
Warren told SunSport he will target that fight if Dubois wins against American Joe Cusumano on YouTuber Jake Paul’s undercard on August 29 in what will be his US debut.
Daniel Dubois could challenge for Trevor Bryan’s WBA title
Joe Joyce vs Anthony Joshua/Oleksandr Usyk
Before AJ saw his Battle of Britain with Fury collapse, Joyce was in line to fight Usyk for the WBO ‘interim’ belt.
But after AJ was instead mandated to fight Usyk, Joyce beat Carlos Takam in the interim and was elevated to the WBO’s No1 ranked challenger.
It means he will now be next in line for the winner between Joshua and Usyk, who fight on September 25 at Tottenham’s stadium.
Interestingly, Joyce was beaten by Usyk in the World Series of Boxing – an amateur tournament – and was a sparring partner of AJ’s on the Olympic squad.

Joe Joyce vs Daniel Dubois 2
If the heavyweight champions are still yet to get their affairs in order and unify the division, the other contenders may need to go over old ground.
And for Dubois, that would be trying to exact revenge on the man who took his undefeated record away from him.
Up until he was forced to be counted out after suffering a gruesome eye injury, the fight was compelling viewing.
And the intrigue on whether Joyce can do it again, or if Dubois can make the necessary adjustments, fuels demand for a rematch.

Daniel Dubois opens door to Dillian Whyte or Derek Chisora fights after Brit emulates his idol Mike Tyson with US debut

DANIEL DUBOIS has opened the door to fighting Dillian Whyte or Derek Chisora – but only after emulating idol Mike Tyson with his US debut. The heavyweight contender will announce himself to the American market on August 29 as he features on YouTuber Jake Paul’s undercard.

Dubois, 23, fights American Joe Cusumano, 33, who is 19-3, with 17 knockouts and having never been stopped himself.
Promoter Frank Warren has taken British boxing legends like Prince ‘Naseem’ Hamed, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe all Stateside.
And now it will be Dubois’ turn, who hopes to steal the show like a young Tyson once did during his devastating heyday.
“My No1 was Mike Tyson,” Dubois said when reflecting on his heroes growing up.
“Lennox Lewis, Naseem, all the big names, they all went out there, Joe Calzaghe.”
“It’s going to be a different crowd, a different audience, the YouTube scene is going to be different. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
Dubois’ unbeaten record was broken in November as domestic rival Joe Joyce, 35, brilliantly jabbed his way to a round 11 stoppage.
“It’s going to be a different crowd, a different audience, the YouTube scene is going to be different. I’m grateful for the opportunity.Daniel Dubois on fighting on Jake Paul’s undercard
But the hard-hitting Londoner returned with a win against Bogdan Dinu, 34, in June, which also earned him the WBA ‘interim’ belt.
It puts him primed for a shot at Anthony Joshua’s title, which will be defended against mandatory Oleksandr Usyk, 35, on September 25.
And while Tyson Fury, 32, faces Deontay Wilder, 35, in a trilogy bout on October 9, the division will remain held up.
It leaves the job of keeping Dubois busy – and he has two British stars in mind to do so.
He said: “The queues pretty long, everyone is waiting in line.
“It’s all about getting into position to get into some real big fights, people will be talking about.
“I’m only 23, I’m still rebuilding, improving and learning more about myself.
“I’d like to fight a good, decent name. Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte, all those guys out there. Maybe two more fights, and then a big fight.”

“He comes through this, that’s the one I’d like to make.”

Tommy Fury vows to ‘break every bone in Jake Paul’s face’ for dragging Love Island star’s girlfriend Molly-Mae into feud

TOMMY FURY vowed to ‘break every bone’ in Jake Paul’s face for dragging his girlfriend Molly-Mae into their online feud. Fury has traded words in a series of videos and posts with the YouTuber with tension building towards an expected fight between the pair.

But Paul made it personal after he shared an alleged private Instagram message from his rival’s partner Molly-Mae.
The ‘screenshot’, from October 2018, read: “Might be coming to America later this year and have always been a fan of your videos. Maybe you can show me around?”
But the Love Island star, who came runner-up with Fury in 2019, hit back and insisted the DM was fake.
Molly-Mae, 22, tweeted in May: “Times must be hard when you’re having to fake a DM…. Photoshop is scary.”
Fury, younger brother to heavyweight champion Tyson, brushed off the viral jabs – but warned Paul will be made to pay for it.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m thick-skinned. I’m a professional athlete. These boys ain’t. These boys play games on the internet and run around for a living.
I’m over the talking. Let’s get it on. Let’s put it to bed. Enough social media chat, which he loves. Let’s get in the ring and fight.Tommy Fury on Jake Paul
“I fight hard for a living. I will let my fists do the talking. For every bad thing he has said, he will get a swift right hand for it.
“I will break every bone in his face. You don’t bring people’s loved ones into it. It’s a fight. It’s nothing to do with them, leave them out of it.”
Paul, 24, is 3-0 in his career, all by knockout, and faces ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, next on Sunday August 29 in his home city Cleveland.
Fury, 22, was considered but due to Woodley’s bigger profile Stateside, the American was instead chosen.
But, he has landed a spot on the undercard and will face Paul’s 32-year-old sparring partner Anthony Taylor, an MMA fighter, on his US debut.
The light-heavyweight penned a two-fight deal with American powerhouse Showtime – who also have Paul signed.
It leaves the celebrity pair on course for a PPV fight of their own, should they both prevail later this month.
Fury, who is 6-0, said: “They are doing it to build the fight. I’m here and I want the fight. I will take it in a heartbeat.

Anthony Joshua unfazed that coach McCracken is with Team GB at Olympics and says ‘it’s been good having a wider team’

ANTHONY JOSHUA is unfazed by the absence of Team GB’s Olympics coach Rob McCracken and said: ‘It’s been good having a wider team’. Joshua is trained by McCracken – the man who led him to Olympic gold in 2012 – with the two stationed at Team GB’s Sheffield HQ.

But AJ has started preparations to fight Oleksandr Usyk on September 25 without his head trainer, who is in Tokyo with the GB boxing squad.
The unified heavyweight champion still has assistant trainers Angel Fernandez and Joby Clayton as part of his camp.
And Joshua believes he has been left in safe hands, despite the loss of McCracken.
He told Sky Sports: “Everyone brings something different to the table. Usyk will bring in Vasiliy Lomachenko’s dad. He works with Russ Anber.
“I have a list of different nutritionists and strength and conditioning coaches that he will bring in for this fight.
“He is changing his team because people have a wealth of knowledge. It’s been good having a wider team and working collectively.”
AJ’s preparation is 365 days per day, not just an eight-week camp. Rob will be missing for a couple of weeks.Eddie Hearn on Anthony Joshua’s training
AJ was faced with the possibility of fighting without McCracken for the first time since 2016 when he was in talks with Tyson Fury.
Joshua, 31, and Fury, 32, had agreed terms for a historic first-ever, four-belt undisputed title decider on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
But it would have meant McCracken was in Japan for the Games – something AJ was willing to go through with.
His promoter Eddie Hearn said: “He has a good training team that is led by McCracken, but with other good trainers.
“AJ’s preparation is 365 days per day, not just an eight-week camp. Rob will be missing for a couple of weeks.
“Actually, we made a decision that whatever the date for the Tyson Fury fight, AJ would take it. Even if Rob had to pop to Tokyo.
“Rob is a massive part of AJ’s corner and his life.”

McCracken has helped GB to a record six medals, with Joshua proudly cheering on his gym-mates from home.
He was ordered by the WBO to face Usyk, 34, in a mandatory defence after Fury lost his arbitration case with Deontay Wilder.
Wilder, 35, won the right to a trilogy bout against the Brit after his rematch loss in February 2020, which included a contracted third fight.

He will fight the Philippines’ Carlo Paalam for gold, aiming to win the first title for Team GB at these Games.
The southpaw will now try to go one better than his elder brothers Khalid Yafai and Gamal Yafai, who have both boxed professionally.
Khalid, 32, represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing but was unable to make it past the Last-16 stage.
Yafai is a much better fighter than the one everyone saw at the 2016 Rio Olympics when he was eliminated in the Last 16 by Cuban boxer Joahnys Argilagos.
The Brummie went to Brazil having quit his job at a Land Rover car factory in Solihull that same year and had only trained for those Games for six months.
It was a lively first round with both flyweights on the front foot and throwing plenty of punches.
Yafai led on the scorecards of all five judges, thanks in part to one brilliant left punch which hit the Kazak flush in the face.
I always thought, ‘I’d love to be in an Olympic final.’ And I’m in one nowGalal Yafai
Bibossinov had a much stronger second round and reduced the deficit heading into the third and final round.
The Kazak started celebrating towards the end of the right but had the smile wiped off his face when the result came in.
And he left the ring in tears after Yafai was named the winner.
An elated Yafai said of his reaching of the final, It’s ridiculous, I can’t believe it.
“It’s like a dream. I always thought, ‘I’d love to be in an Olympic final.’ And I’m in one now.
“I’ve just got one more hurdle to get over, and that’s to beat the Philippines and go and win gold.”
Yafai knew from a young age he’d be in an Olympic final, adding: “Always. We’d talk about it at home.

Olympic gold medallist Joshua was ordered by the WBO to fight Usyk, 34, after his undisputed title decider with Tyson Fury, 32, collapsed.
And despite supporters left disappointed that the match-up never materialised, fans have acted fast to get their hands on seeing AJ face the former cruiserweight king next month.
Matchroom have announced that tickets have been sold out within a day as 60,000 fans prepare to flock to England’s capital.
It is the seventh venue that Joshua has sold out after the UK’s Wembley Stadium, Principality Stadium, 02 Arena and Manchester Arena.
He even sold out Madison Square Garden for his trip to America, although lost his title against Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019.
The Watford native then fought in front of a sold out capacity at Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Arena when he outpointed Ruiz to become a two-time world champion.
Joshua hasn’t been in action since knocking out Bulgarian veteran Kubrat Pulev in December.
But he is looking in incredible shape for his dust-up against fellow Olympic champ Usyk.

AJ goes into the bout with a size advantage, with Usyk preparing for just his third fight in the heavyweight division.
Commenting on the duo, promoter Eddie Hearn told talkSPORT: “I think that Usyk will never be a fully fledged heavyweight – a real heavyweight in terms of size.
“But what he will always have is a huge amount of skill.
“It takes time for people to bed into heavyweight, so put it this way, it would’ve been a lot easier fight for AJ a year-and-a-half ago.
“Now Usyk has fought a real heavyweight contender in [Derek] Chisora, that will actually help him to start to understand what needs to be done.
“But AJ’s a different kind of beast. A good big guy will always beat a good small guy, so we’ll see.”

John Fury launches astonishing rant against ‘horrible idiot’ Deontay Wilder and says Tyson will put him in hospital

JOHN FURY has blasted former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder after the boxer stated his trilogy fight against son Tyson on October 9 will be easy. The two heavyweights were due to clash for a third and possibly final time on July 24, but it was delayed after Tyson tested positive for Covid-19.

Tyson and Wilder have been publicly going back and forth in the build-up to the trilogy fight, with Wilder suggesting it will be easy despite the first fight between the pair ending in a draw, and the second with Tyson coming away with the belt after a TKO in the seventh round.
And Tyson’s dad John has furiously responded branding Wilder ‘an idiot’ and warned that the American will be put in intensive care.
Speaking to IFL TV, he said: “What do I think about that? That man is an idiot.
“That’s a crank that is, living in cuckooland.
“Tyson will put him in the intensive care unit, and I’m telling you now, Deontay, he’s not in the devil’s playground now, he’s not getting eaten alive by all those people, making your job easier.
“He’s got me now and we’re going to put so much work in to crush you my friend, it’s going to be untrue.
“So let me tell you, stock up on toilet roll mate because you’re gonna need it, because we’re training hard, we’re training to move mountains and you’re just a bump in the road my friend.
“You’re getting it you dosser, you’re a bum, and a horrible bum at that, you’re getting it pal.
What do I think about that? That man is an idiot.John Fury
“We’re putting the work in, this brain, Tyson’s brain, when we unite we’re unbeatable.
“Especially with somebody like you, a one trick pony, with those skinny legs underneath you.
“He’s gonna hit you that hard on the chin you’ll break them two chicken legs with one shot on your chin.
“And you will never box again, guaranteed that pal, take that onboard, you better do.”
If Fury gets past Wilder and Anthony Joshua beats Oleksandr Usyk on September 25, promoter Bob Arum believes the two Brits should fight next as it’s what the fans want.

Daniel Dubois in line to fight for Trevor Bryan’s WBA title NEXT if he wins on Jake Paul’s undercard, says Frank Warren

Dubois, 23, fights American Joe Cusumano, 33, who is 19-3, with 17 knockouts and having never been stopped himself.
The prize for the Brit should he leave his mark Stateside could be a shot at Bryan’s secondary ‘Regular’ WBA title.
Promoter Frank Warren told SunSport: “I want him to fight for that WBA title against Trevor Bryan, I’d get that on in a heartbeat.
“He comes through this, that’s the one I’d like to make.”
Bryan, 31, is promoted by veteran Don King – famous for his work with Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali – and won the belt in January.
He beat former WBC champ Bermane Stiverne, 42, but is yet to defend it with King known to demand a hefty fee for anyone from his stable.
Dubois already holds the ‘interim’ belt, putting him in a good position for the full world title, held by Anthony Joshua.
I want him to fight for that WBA title against Trevor Bryan, I’d get that on in a heartbeat. Frank Warren on Daniel Dubois
But AJ’s failed undisputed title decider against Tyson Fury leaves the division still held up.
Joshua, 31, fights mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk, 34, on September 25 at Tottenham’s stadium.
Meanwhile, Fury, 32, faces Deontay Wilder, 35, in a trilogy bout on October 9, having been moved from July 24 after he caught coronavirus.
Warren is confident the unification can be re-visited should the champions prevail in their interim fights.
But it leaves the job of keeping Dubois and Joe Joyce – recently made WBO mandatory challenger – occupied high in the rankings in the meantime.
Warren said: “Daniel, and Joe, they just need to stay busy.
“Because, at the end of the day, we have Joe at the No1 spot, Daniel is the WBA interim champion, just keep them busy.
