Manny Pacquiao rips Floyd Mayweather over Logan Paul fight and says rival ‘can’t help’ Errol Spence Jr beat him

MANNY PACQUIAO has slammed suggestions his old rival Floyd Mayweather will help guide Errol Spence Jr to victory in their eagerly-anticipated welterweight showdown.Eight-weight world champion Pacquiao – who hasn’t fought in over two years – will lock horns with The Truth in Las Vegas a fortnight on Saturday.

Ahead of the bout, Mayweather revealed he plans to give Spence Jr some pointers on how to beat the Filipino.
But Pacquiao insists the Money man won’t be able to help his latest foe, saying: “I don’t think Floyd can help Errol Spence. Errol Spence knows what he’s doing.”
The 42-year-old then ripped Mayweather for his eight-round exhibition bout with YouTube star Logan Paul, which went the distance.
Pacman said of his former opponent: “He’s fighting with a YouTuber just to earn money.
“And I’m fighting the best to add to my legacy, so that’s different. To fight an easy opponent for the money or to fight one of the best to add to your legacy. It’s different.
“I can easily fight an easy opponent or non-boxers. I can easily pick an easy win, but I pick the best because I want to add more to my legacy of accomplishment.

“It’s a challenge, especially because he’s taller than me. We have a strategy that we can use against a southpaw.
“I know he always coming inside and he want to fight toe-to-toe so that’s good.”
Spence Jr, 31, is relishing his showdown with Pacquiao and plans to close the book on his legendary career with a brutal knockout.
The American told CBS Sports: “Manny Pacquiao is an icon and a living legend.
“A lot of guys don’t get fights like this [against someone like him].
“If you look at the history of boxing, there is only a couple of guys who can be [called] living legends.

“This could also be his last fight, which makes it even bigger. If this is his last fight, it’s probably going to be replayed for the next 100 years so this is going to be huge.
“I want to retire him but I do respect him for taking this fight and being a real fighter.
“He could’ve picked Joe Blow or somebody, or an MMA fighter just to get a huge paycheck. Instead, he took the biggest challenge in the division.”

UFC president Dana White has refused to do business with Jake Paul, insisting he’s not in the ‘celebrity’ fight game.Paul, along with his elder brother Logan, has taken the boxing world by storm over the last 18 months, so much he’s bagged a lucrative deal with Showtime.

The former Disney star, who has gained immense traction, recently revealed he wants to test himself inside the octagon one day.
White, however, has no intention of ever working with The Problem Child, telling The Nelk Boys: “I just don’t see it happening.
“I don’t hate the kid. Is he f***ing annoying? Yeah, he’s annoying.
“He’s out there trying to make that money, and his shelf life is very f***ing short.”
White, 51, is adamant he wouldn’t water down the product he produces by putting the younger Paul brother inside the octagon.
When pressed further on potentially working with the social media star, he said: “Listen, I never say never, but I highly doubt it. It’s just not what I do.
I put the best against the bestDana White on potentially working with Jake Paul
“There’s a market for that. He could fight a different type of celebrity every week.
“And there’s going to be a segment of the population that wants to pay for that and see it, but that’s not what I do.
“I put the best against the best.”
White’s comments on potentially working with Paul echo those he made in May when he told ESPN: “First of all, I would never do business with those guys, just no.
“No, this is not what we do. I’m not gonna f*****g loan them a guy for f*****g what? There’s no way.
“You got plenty of f*****g goofballs out there that you can muster up to get in there and play these games that these guys are playing.

Lauren Price edges into final and stays on course for gold as Britain’s boxers deliver Tokyo 2020 medal rush

LAUREN Price booked her appointment with Olympic middleweight destiny – but was given the fight of her life by Dutch rival Nouchka Fontijn.Welsh wonder Price and Fontijn have been fighting for supremacy for five years, with the former part-time cabbie from Newport holding a narrow edge.

And after three gruelling rounds at the Kokugican Arena, the 27-year-old – who lost a point in round two – got through by the skin of her teeth on a 3-2 majority after two judges gave it to her on the tie-break when their cards were level.
Britain’s boxers have delivered six medals at Tokyo 2020 with Price and Galal Yafai both still in with a chance of gold.
Price had just outpointed Fontijn to lift the world and European belts in 2019.
Yet despite the southpaw Brit seeming to have used her speed to edge the first, ducking inside Fontijn’s orthodox lead to land her own shots, it was the Dutch fighter who shaded it with three of the five judges.
That put the pressure on, increased even more when Price was deducted a point for holding.
Even though she took the round with three of the judges, it meant she was behind on four of the cards after two, having to dominate the last to get through.
She did not do that in another three minutes which could have been decided either way but was shaded by the Welsh fighter according to four of them.
I’m just over the moon that I got the winLauren Price
That left Fontijn ahead on two cards, Price on one and level with the Argentine and Moroccan judges.
Both gave their tie break vote to Price, who howled in sheer delight as the verdict came in to confirm her passage to Sunday’s final.
A thrilled Price thanked her fans as she left the ring, adding: “It means the world.”
She told the BBC: “It’s pretty mad, to be honest.
“Obviously, I knew I was up against it today, we’re the best two in the world.
“We’ve faced each other a number of times and we know each other inside out. So it was whoever was better on the day.
“I started a little bit slow, but I suppose that’s where your experience comes into it and listening to my corner I went out in the second and third round to win the fight.
“I’m just over the moon that I got the win. But I take my hat off to her.

“Obviously, she’s been around a while as well, Olympic silver medallist and she’s world-class as well.
“So I’m just really pleased that I got the decision today.”
Price’s opponent with be Qian Li of China, who has yet to drop a single round with any judge in her three contests.

But Paul made it personal after he shared an alleged private Instagram message from his rival’s partner Molly-Mae.
The ‘screenshot’, from October 2018, read: “Might be coming to America later this year and have always been a fan of your videos. Maybe you can show me around?”
But the Love Island star, who came runner-up with Fury in 2019, hit back and insisted the DM was fake.
Molly-Mae, 22, tweeted in May: “Times must be hard when you’re having to fake a DM…. Photoshop is scary.”
Fury, younger brother to heavyweight champion Tyson, brushed off the viral jabs – but warned Paul will be made to pay for it.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m thick-skinned. I’m a professional athlete. These boys ain’t. These boys play games on the internet and run around for a living.
I’m over the talking. Let’s get it on. Let’s put it to bed. Enough social media chat, which he loves. Let’s get in the ring and fight.Tommy Fury on Jake Paul
“I fight hard for a living. I will let my fists do the talking. For every bad thing he has said, he will get a swift right hand for it.
“I will break every bone in his face. You don’t bring people’s loved ones into it. It’s a fight. It’s nothing to do with them, leave them out of it.”
Paul, 24, is 3-0 in his career, all by knockout, and faces ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, next on Sunday August 29 in his home city Cleveland.
Fury, 22, was considered but due to Woodley’s bigger profile Stateside, the American was instead chosen.
But, he has landed a spot on the undercard and will face Paul’s 32-year-old sparring partner Anthony Taylor, an MMA fighter, on his US debut.
The light-heavyweight penned a two-fight deal with American powerhouse Showtime – who also have Paul signed.
It leaves the celebrity pair on course for a PPV fight of their own, should they both prevail later this month.
Fury, who is 6-0, said: “They are doing it to build the fight. I’m here and I want the fight. I will take it in a heartbeat.

Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico claims he has target on back for being related to legend and says ‘it’s blessing and curse’

MUHAMMAD ALI’S grandson Nico Ali Walsh has revealed it’s a ‘blessing and a curse’ being related to the boxing legend ahead of his professional debut. The 20-year-old is gearing up for his first bout in the paid ranks on August 14 after signing a deal with Top Rank last month.

Walsh, who is the son of Ali’s daughter Rasheda Ali Walsh, is trained by Tyson Fury’s mentor SugarHill Steward.
And the cruiserweight prospect has declared that he has a target on his back going into the professional game due to being related to the boxing legend.
Speaking to MyBettingSites ahead of his debut, he said: “Everyone wants to knockout Muhammad Ali’s grandson. I would never tell anyone who I was but they’d always find out.
“And when they did, they’d always try to knock me out or hurt me because they wanted to be able to say: ‘hey, I hurt Muhammad Ali’s grandson, I knocked out Muhammad Ali’s grandson’.
“I say being Muhammad Ali’s grandson is a blessing and a curse and that falls under the curse category.”
Before adding: “I’ll definitely have a target on my back as a professional but where I’m at now mentally, I’m able to handle the pressures.
“And I’m grateful for that, because this all started back when I was 10 when I first put on a pair of gloves.”
Walsh also discussed what key piece of advice Ali gave him in his quest to become a world champion.

He remarked: “The biggest piece of advice that I remember the most, he said: ‘moving and dancing makes a fighter’.
“Moving and dancing isn’t something a lot of fighters do nowadays; hitting and not getting hit. He did that very well and that’s what I want to emulate the most.
“But I don’t want to be the same exact fighter he was – I don’t believe there is a way even I wanted to be – he is one of a kind.
“I’m more similar to him outside of the ring. We have the same kind of sense of humour, telling stupid jokes.
“He was huge on magic tricks and I’m huge on magic tricks, so we’re similar in that sense. Inside the ring I’d say we have the same work ethic. His work ethic was outstanding. I emulate that.”

The 46-year-old, who was released from the UFC last year, outpointed former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 35, in June.
It was his first professional fight inside the squared circle since 2005, with the Brazilian open to more boxing dust-ups in the future.
Logan is coming off the back of an exhibition clash against Floyd Mayweather where the 26-year-old took the 15-time world champion the distance.
But Silva’s coach Luiz Dorea has warned Paul that if he wants to face the Spider next, it has to be under official rules.
He told Sherdog: “Logan proved to be a very brave and talented kid doing an exhibition fight against the legend Mayweather.
“But, of course, if it were in official rules, the result would be different.
“Let’s see if he will keep hiding under exhibition rules or if he will test himself in the real world [under professional rules].
“In that case, I have no doubt Anderson will knock him out.”

Following his exhibition against Mayweather, Paul believes his next outing will be worth $100MILLION.
Speaking to former opponent KSI on his podcast, he said: “Mayweather has this ability to kind of like, bless people with a magic wand.
“And I knew if I did well, like bro, I’m in this weird position where my next fight is, with the right opponent, could be a $100million fight.

Tommy Fury vs Anthony Taylor tale of the tape: How Love Island star and MMA fighter compare ahead of PPV bout

TOMMY FURY could be one fight away from facing Jake Paul – but first has to beat the YouTuber’s sparring partner. Fury features on his online rival’s undercard on August 29, which will help build towards a pay-per-view clash between the celebrity pair.

But standing in the Love Island star’s way is MMA fighter Taylor, a sparring partner of Paul’s.
It will mark Fury’s US debut and gives him the perfect chance to send out a message to Paul, who headlines the night against Tyron Woodley.
Here, SunSport runs down how he compares to Taylor.
    Tommy Fury
Fury was born into boxing having grown up watching brother Tyson and cousin Hughie, while being trained by his dad John and uncle Peter.
He quietly learnt his trade in the gym but had a limited amateur career of only ten bouts.
After being a relatively unknown but ever-present part of Tyson’s team, in 2018 Fury turned professional with much fanfare.
But that sky rocketed in the summer of 2019, when he entered ITV’s hit reality TV show Love Island, while 2-0.
After coming runner-up with now-girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague, Fury became a star of his own, well out of Tyson’s shadow.
In the period since, he has improved to 6-0 with signs of promise, but still remains untested having faced only journeymen opponents.
Fury, 22, was taken the distance in his return to the ring in June, but showed glimpses of a smart jab and eye-catching right uppercut.
He will take in not only an experience advantage over Taylor, he is also naturally a STONE heavier, and has a bigger reach.

    Anthony Taylor
Taylor, 32, turned pro in MMA six years ago but got off to a rocky start, losing four of his first seven.
That included a submission defeat to Conor McGregor’s protege James Gallagher in 2016.
But recently, Taylor has won his last four on the spin, not losing in three years, and recently beat Nate Diaz’s training partner Chris Avila.
The part-time actor, who even had a career as a STRIPPER before fighting, has boxed just once before, losing by split-decision to Donte Stubbs.
But he made a name for himself earlier in the year after calling out Paul to a sparring session, which was later set up.
And despite bad blood between the two initially, they formed a friendship and continue to train together now.
Taylor has been helping Paul in preparation for his fourth fight, against ex-UFC champion Woodley, 39.
He usually fights at 155lb, but will have to step up all the way to 180lb for his boxing match with Fury.
