Conor McGregor does not deserve Pacquiao fight, claims boxing legend’s coach who says he’s now passed Mayweather in ring

CONOR MCGREGOR has not got ‘the right’ to fight Manny Pacquiao, the legend’s coach has stated amid rumours of the pair taking to the ring. The crossover bout was tipped to take place later this year by McGregor, 33.

But the Filipino veteran will instead fight Yordenis Ugas on August 21 after a showdown with Errol Spence Jr was cancelled due to injury.
And Justin Fortune, Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach, has dismissed the idea of a McGregor match-up.
Fortune, speaking in an interview with Coffee Friend, said: “It would have gone two rounds against McGregor – one round to warm up and one round to finish the guy.
“Or we could have warmed up properly in the changing rooms and it would have gone one round.
“McGregor is not a boxer. It’s not his sport. Manny’s not an MMA guy, it’s not his sport.
“Put Manny against McGregor in MMA and McGregor destroys Manny. Manny against McGregor in boxing – Manny destroys him.

“It’s unfair to match them like that. Conor’s record is 1-5 in his last six fights. Why fight McGregor, McGregor does not deserve to fight Manny, why give McGregor the payday?
“What gives him the right to fight Manny? McGregor has loss after loss after loss.”
Aussie ex-pro Fortune instead has one other idea for McGregor: a fight with Logan Paul.
He noted: “Fight Logan Paul for the money, big guy, deserves it. I like Logan Paul, he’s got some skills.
“These exhibitions are great for the guys on YouTube who are making a lot of money.
“But it’s all good until someone gets hurt. At the moment they’re making tons of money and no-one is getting hurt and that’s all well and good but if they start fighting serious guys – someone is going to get seriously hurt.”
If Floyd wanted to prove a point he would have fought Manny again. Justin Fortune
At 42, Pacquiao continues to target world titles and extend his 71-fight record.
In Fortune’s eyes, the eight-division champion has therefore surpassed Floyd Mayweather as the debate over the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all-time rages on.
He stated: “We’ll never see another Pacquiao again. Period.
“Manny has surpassed Floyd Mayweather. If Floyd wanted to prove a point he would have fought Manny again.

“We all know Manny had a shoulder injury [in 2015]. The offers were put out there for the rematch – he wanted nothing to do with it.
“Instead he chose to fight Conor McGregor and a frigging YouTuber.
“Boxing has done him good. Mayweather, now he’s gone and sullied its name. They are great if they’re exhibitions, people just cashing out – good luck to you. But don’t let them go on your record.”

Despite having over ten times as many fights as Paul, Woodley, 39, goes into his professional boxing debut as a huge underdog.
But The Chosen One’s former American Top Team team-mate Masvidal is tipping him to get the job done, saying during an appearance on The MMA Hour: “He has a ton of experience over him.
“So if Jake wins, f***ing wow. My hat’s off to him, I was wrong. I don’t know s**t about fighting, right?
“But, chances are Woodley is gonna knock him the f**k out.”
Masvidal made his prediction for Paul vs Woodley first known during an appearance on ATT’s Punchin’ in Podcast.
He said: “He’s gonna get killed by my boy Woodley.”

Paul, 24, is 3-0 as a professional boxer following wins over fellow YouTuber AnEson Gib, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson and former UFC welterweight Ben Askren.
But Woodley – who is good friends with Askren – is expecting an easy night at the office.
He told ESPN: “Easiest fight of my career & biggest purse of my career all in one night.
“Basically, they brought me in to take out the trash. Can’t wait to shut this b***h up.
“This is getting done for the culture, the whole MMA/boxing community, to rid this guy of combat sports.”
Former Disney star Paul is also predicting a short night at the office, telling Sky Sports: “Before this camp, I said three [rounds] and now I’m thinking max two.
“But to be honest, something in my heart tells me it’s going to be another one-round fight.
“As crazy as that sounds, I think it’s going to be a very very short night for Tyron,” Paul said.
“Let’s hope Tyron is very very prepared and is a lot better than I expected.

“Because then the fight will go into the later rounds where I am actually a better fighter.
“In sparring, the first couple rounds I’m usually getting warmed up and I come alive in the back half of a fight.
“I haven’t even got to warm up in a fight yet and I haven’t been hit in a fight yet.”

Jake Paul tells Tommy Fury he ‘can’t step back’ on PPV numbers and tells Love Island star he has ‘no audience in US’

JAKE PAUL has once again taken aim at Tommy Fury by telling his rival he ‘can’t step back’ on pay-per-view numbers and claiming that the Brit is a nobody in America. The two fighters are expected to exchange words on August 29 when Fury fights American Anthony Taylor on Paul’s undercard.

The YouTuber’s bout with UFC icon Tyron Woodley is the headline event in Cleveland and the YouTuber’s fourth professional boxing match.
Paul and Fury are predicted to win their respective fights and set up a huge celebrity clash in the near future.
The two fighters have been exchanging words since Paul shared a ‘screenshot’ of an alleged message from Fury’s girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.
The alleged Instagram message from October 2018 reads: “Might be coming to America later this year and have always been a fan of your videos. Maybe you can show me around?”
Molly-Mae denied the message, tweeting: “Times must be hard when you’re having to fake a DM… Photoshop is scary.”
The British boxer, brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, was not impressed with Paul dragging his girlfriend into their war of words.

Now Paul has ramped up the tension again with his latest comments.
During an interview with MMA Fighting, the 24-year-old said: “The thing I’ve made fun of Timmy for is, like, the only reason people know of you is because of your famous older brother.
“I didn’t even know you existed and you have no audience here in the US.
“We’re sort of still trying to gauge, like, do people even care about that fight? Is it a big fight? Can he actually fight? Is he really as good as they claim him to be? We’re still figuring out a lot of things.
“After I knock out Tyron, it’s back to the drawing board with the team to figure out who is the next big fight.”

Paul added: “I have to have an opponent that can draw pay-per-view numbers. I can’t take a step back because all eyes are on me.
“No-one will want to watch me fight some unknown pro boxer or pro MMA fighter. I need to sell pay-per-views and people want big, star power names.
“My career is just different. It’s such a unique situation. No fighter in the history of the sport has sold this many pay-per-views and had this much attention at 3-0.
“I’m building my career differently all while still challenging myself and trying to become the biggest prizefighter in the world.”

Watch Jake Paul punch bag footage that sparked fan backlash as YouTuber deemed ‘atrocious’ with ‘no clue how to box’

JAKE PAUL was dubbed ‘atrocious’ and ‘slow’ after a training video of the YouTube fighter was posted online.Showtime Boxing filmed the 24-year-old finishing off a punching bag session alongside featherweight champion Amanda Serrano.
Jake Paul received a backlash for his training video
Fans quickly picked up on the difference between the two stars’ technique, leading to Paul receiving heavy criticism online.
The American is preparing to face UFC veteran Tyron Woodley on August 29, in an event which sees Serrano defend her unified belts on the undercard.
Twitter user PJ commented: “Three years training boxing everyday and he still can’t hold his hands up 🤣🤦‍♂️.”
Gavin wrote: “Looks like he’s never boxed before.”
Benn added: “Look at the difference in the two boxers. The pro is tight and efficient whilst the pretender telegraphs his punches and almost breaks his own leg, atrocious footwork. And he’s got Canelo in his sights lol?”
Dave remarked: “I’d recommend some boxing lessons. They’re not that expensive and you can learn a few basic things like how to throw a right cross.”

Another onlooker tweeted: “Jake still has no clue how to box. That right hand is atrocious. Hands down, doesn’t bring his guard back up. It’s slow and telegraphed. As soon as he fights a boxer he’s done. Even an amateur boxer would mail him.”
And Antonio wrote: “Amanda’s form is impressive, kept her hand up after throwing the cross. Jake on the other hand, keep working lol..”
Paul has told SunSport that he has a long list of fighters he wants to defeat having so far gone unbeaten in the ring.
Among whom is Tommy Fury, the Brit prospect who also fights in Ohio later this month with an eight-round affair against Anthony Taylor before Paul faces Woodley.
If both men are victorious, it could set up a long-awaited clash between the Love Island favourite and the YouTuber.
But Paul has claimed that Fury would be no match for him after he grabbed Floyd Mayweather’s hat earlier this year.
He told SunSport: “I would tell him not to wear a hat. If he wants to play those games, we can play those games, Tommy.

“Look, if you want to wear a hat, that s***’s going to get taken, one way or another. I’m stealing everybody’s hat, nobody’s hat’s safe.
“This kid’s not fast enough, Floyd Mayweather, I took this guy’s hat and he had to have 20 guys to hold me down before he could get one punch off 15 seconds later.
“Oh, and by the way, that was my warm up, so now I’ve got one under my belt, one stolen hat under my belt, the second one? Way easier.”

Meet Yordenis Ugas, who replaces Errol Spence Jr to fight Manny Pacquiao and says beating legend will ‘define my legacy’

YORDENIS UGAS is the Cuban who replaces Errol Spence Jr to fight Manny Pacquiao and says a win will ‘define my legacy’. Ugas’ story started in the boxing nation of Cuba, where he represented his country as an amateur.

He won gold in the Worlds in 2005 and then three years later left the Beijing Olympics with a bronze medal.
Believing his business was done in the unpaid ranks, Ugas did what many other Cuban legends have done in the past – defected from his homeland.
Turning professional in Cuba is prohibited, meaning boxers have to try and sneak out to pursue their world title ambitions.
Ugas was no different, travelling to Mexico and then Miami, on a small raft with his journey taking two days.
He even feared for his life while on route, but the dream of boxing’s biggest fights remained on his mind throughout.
Now, fast forward 11 years and he has earned himself a chance like no other, against the sport’s only eight-division champion Pacquiao.

Ugas, 35, told SunSport: “This is the kind of fight I’ve always dreamed and worked towards since I started boxing in Cuba.
“This is a fight that will define my legacy.”
Cuban greats from the past such as Guillermo Rigondeaux, 40, Yuriorkis Gamboa, 39, and Erislandy Lara, 38, all fled to America.
And while Ugas’ story is yet to be completed, he hopes to put himself among those names before hanging up the gloves.

He said: “I focus on working hard and controlling what we can control and that’s the work my team and I put in the gym.
“There have been many great Cuban fighters that come before me and there will be many more after me.
“It will be a humbling experience to be mentioned with all the great Cuban champions.”

Ugas made his professional debut in 2010, the same year he arrived Stateside.
He won his first 11 fights before losing in an upset against Johnny Garcia in 2012.
Despite bouncing back with four wins, Ugas suffered disaster in 2014 with consecutive defeats, against Emmanuel Robles and then Amir Imam.
It proved so damaging, the former Olympian suddenly retired from the sport.
Ugas, living in New Jersey at the time, then took up odd jobs to make ends meet, until his life was turned around with one phone call.
Aroldis Chapman, a baseball star who had signed a lucrative contract with the Cincinnati Reds, offered his friend and fellow defector a lifeline.

The Cuban has replaced Errol Spence Jr to fight Manny Pacquiao
Yordenis Ugas is the WBA welterweight champion
Chapman gave Ugas money to return to boxing and train in Las Vegas, an opportunity which was taken with both hands, quite literally.
Ugas was busy after returning in 2016, winning eight fights in two years while signing for mysterious boxing mogul Al Haymon.
He finally got his world title shot in 2019, but was beaten by Shawn Porter, 33, for the WBC welterweight belt.
Still, Ugas remained determined to reward his up and down career with gold.
And he did so after winning twice more following defeat to Porter and challenged American Abel Ramos, 30, for the WBA’s secondary ‘Regular’ belt in September 2020.
Still, Filipino icon Pacquiao, 42, was considered the champion, having won the full version against Keith Thurman, 32, a year prior.
Yordenis Ugas challenged for Shawn Porter’s WBC belt in 2019
Yordenis Ugas was elevated to WBA champion after Manny Pacquiao was stripped
But controversy struck in January as PacMan was STRIPPED of his title, due to inactivity, despite being unable to fight amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It saw Ugas elevated to champion, and left a debate needing to be settled, setting up the perfect decider in Vegas.
He said: “The winner on Saturday night will be the true WBA champion.”
Despite the welterweight headliner proving the perfect fight to crown an undisputed WBA king, it arose in unprecedented fashion.
Unbeaten Texan Spence, the WBC and IBF champ, was due to defend his titles against Pacquiao.
But an injured eye in sparring saw him pull out, while Ugas, set to feature on the undercard, also had his opponent Fabian Maidana, 29, withdraw.

Coincidentally, Maidana also suffered an eye injury, leaving as luck would have it both Ugas and Pacquiao without opponents.
A simple solution was met, with Ugas now offered the chance to announce himself like never before with the world now watching.
He said: “First and foremost, I want to wish Errol Spence a speedy recovery.
“I was very excited to get the opportunity to fight with a legend like Manny Pacquaio.
“He’s one of the greatest fighters of our time, much respect, but now it’s time to fight. I’m eager to show the world what I can do versus a legend.”

The YouTuber caused havoc in May one month before his older brother Logan faced boxing legend Mayweather in an exhibition.
Paul snatched Mayweather’s cap, sparking a mass brawl with the ugly scenes immediately going viral.
The American social media sensation was told by online rival Fury not to try the trick again when they share the stage Stateside in two weeks time.
But Paul revealed he is only just getting going and boasted how Mayweather’s cap was just the start of his collection.
He told SunSport: “I would tell him not to wear a hat. If he wants to play those games, we can play those games, Tommy.

Paul, 24, is 3-0 as a boxer, all by knockout, since his professional debut in 2020 but has so far fought limited opposition.
He has beaten online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and most recently retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37.
Paul faces his biggest step up on August 29 against Tyron Woodley, 39, a former UFC champion.
On the undercard, 2019 Love Island star Fury, 22, faces Paul’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor, 32, which will mark his US debut.
Also on the bill is heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois, 23, with Paul urging Fury to prove a point and potentially set up a fight between them.
He said: “I wanted to have Tommy be exposed to the US market, be exposed to my audience.
“I wanted to give him the opportunity to potentially shine in front of the world.
“I would tell him not to wear a hat. If he wants to play those games, we can play those games, Tommy.Jake Paul on Tommy Fury
“Because, no one has ever bought a Tommy Fury, pay-per-view or seen a Tommy Fury fight.
“This is his big moment, and it does potentially set us up for a fight in the future. If we can both do what we’re expected to do.
“Tommy’s ‘expected’ to win, I’m expected to win, so if we both get through, yeah it builds that narrative for sure.
“I wanted to give him that opportunity and I just wanted a dope undercard.
“He has a lot of hype around him, that’s also why I got Daniel Dubois, Amanda Serrano, I just wanted to build an amazing event.
